Description: Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokémon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokémon battling arena. In the centre of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Poké Ball centre). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about 4.5m wide & creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is 24m wide, 33m long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it is an outdoor arena with a large water source & packed dirt. Pokémon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying-type Pokémon, who cannot leave the arena & cannot fly higher than 18m). This prevents Pokémon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokémon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Well since apparently all I do in this Tournament is follow Pwnemon around I guess I better hope he wins so I can ref the final. You know not that I'm rooting for anyone or anything. Nevertheless I have unfortunately begun to remember the nicknames of his Pokemon without having to look so I guess at least that saves some time. I don't know whether he counterteamed IAR or just simply has a strong as fuck team but everything looks useful in here. Pyroak runs through things and Gallade and Kitsunoh mix support and offence as well as anything. I still think Newman is the key here. Gen VI nerfs to his typing don't look to have held him back and he matches up well against everything on the other side of the field.

IAR on the other hand has shied away from simple ASB mainstay Pokemon and into a different array of Pokemon. Unloved the Aromatisse isn't going to have as much fun here with Big Root Kisses as she did in the Dragon Gym with two mons resisting the move (seriously how have we not yet fixed this healing more damage than you do is just fucking stupid) and while Mega Heracross might have lots of new toys to play Skill Link with none of them work outstandingly well in this match. It might fall to Grandstone the Regirock and its astounding defences to work some magic, especially since he's looking at a pile of physical attackers.

Anyway let us ignore my rambling and get down to seeing what these two actually do. Side note be prepared for some of the most complaint and whine filled order posts ever seen in ASB in a match between two of the worst culprits, but I suppose we can just pass that off as "flavour".

Well Kitsunoh was a mon specifically designed to scout and this works just about a well in ASB as it did back in fourth gen. A swift Super Fang does about as much damage to that Mega Ruination as possible. Of course Heracross immediately matches it with a simple coverage Night Slash. A little Fake Out stops a potentially more damaging Earthquake before Pwnemon decides its best to let Newman take another hit in order to Roar in a more favourable opponent. Even that was a risky move with Newman pretty much equally as boned against Regirock. Luckily for the shadow cat it's Aromatisse that will be joining us next round. Meteor Mash away, young Newman.

Seeing about all he can do in this situation is arm Aromatisse with a Babiri Berry and rely on ordering second IAR does a decent job of it. Taking away Newman's chance to Pain Split with a handy little bit of sub abuse Aromatisse then aims the age old Hyper Power to win the damage race for the round while the berry sees Newman's steel type attacks somewhat neutered. Of course it is about to run out and a sluggish fairy is somewhat less than ideal.

Pwnemon makes not one but two missteps when ordering first and poor old Ambrose has to bear the consequences. Not only did Pwnemon leave the perhaps most important substitution in a non existant third sub slot he made the age old ASB mistake of forgetting counter. The end result is a strange turn of events when the Rank 8 attack Heracross defers to more indirect options to pretty much decimate the poor Pyroak. I mean dayumn if he wasn't a silly 120 HP Pyroak he's be pretty much dead now. At least Pwnemon is now definitely going to order second against a weakened Heracross. FOr what that is worth.

Since apparently only two matchups exist in this fight we go back to Newman vs Aromatisse and both players give us pretty much almost the exact same actions as last time around. Only this time Pwnemon remembers that important "and push actions back" addendum and IAR decides it necessary to tempt fate in small print alongside his orders. This as it turns out, was a very bad idea. The Hyper Power combination that is not only Aromatisse's only way of dealing decent damage to Newman but what would have also done just enough to KO the shadow cat misses entirely. Aromatisse is then forced to sit there haplessly and having already consumed all of it's tasty berry while Kitsunoh smacks him with a harsh Iron Tail. The tides turned massively on a 5% chance there, but unfortunately thems the breaks. The match still looks likely to largely come down to Gallade vs Regirock still and that in itself is an intersting match up so don't look away yet.
