Engineer has brought three of ASB's strongest Pokemon to the table here today; he's certainly not messing around! Gallade is a beautiful mix of offensive power and disruption, Togekiss has an incredible set of abilities, a solid typing and an awesome movepool, and Sableye is well known for its near-infinite shenanigans. But is it enough? We'll find out! As for his opponent, he's a newer addition to the ASB community, but he makes up for his relative lack of experience with some incredible talent, and he's sure to give Engineer a run for his money! Introducing Engineer's opponent, the Fighting Gym Leader, it's none other than Birkal!

Birkal has brought a team that is certainly equal in strength to Engineer's, if not necessarily in name recognition. Like Engineer he brought his own Gallade, and Rotom has always been a strong and potentially underrated in ASB. And then there's Kecleon, who only recently has come into his own as a major threat in ASB thanks to the addition of the Protean ability among other things. This will certainly be an interesting fight between two of the best that ASB has to offer! Now then, let's do the ceremonial coin flip! If it's heads, Engineer will send out first, otherwise Birkal will send out first! And there's the flip! It is...

-> RNG roll for coin flip (1-5000=heads, 5001-10000=tails) -> 3437 (heads)

...heads! So Engineer will send out his first Pokemon, then Birkal will send out his own Pokemon and order, and then Engineer will order! I'll describe the action and then we'll go from there! Now then, without further ado. Here. We. GO!

1) Engineer sends out and equips an item
2) Birkal sends out, equips an item, and orders
3) Engineer orders
4) I ref
5) Engineer orders
6) Birkal orders
7) I ref
8) 5-7 repeat with the order of 5 and 6 switching each time

Engineer Pikachu, you're up!

The trainers are both ready, so it's time to get underway! Engineer sends out his Pokemon first, and in a flash of bright light, Samurai the Gallade appears! Looks like Engineer gave him an Expert Belt for this match; a good all-around choice of an item. Birkal considers his options for a minute, then chooses one of his Pokeballs and sends out his Pokemon! Oh man! It's Savate the Gallade, complete with his own Expert Belt! Looks like we have ourselves a mirror match folks! Looking at the file, the major difference here is that Samurai has a Quiet nature while Savate has a Naive nature; while ordinarily the Speed boost would be excellent on a Gallade, unfortunately most of the best coverage Gallade has in this matchup is special-based, which means that Special Attack boost for Samurai and that Special Defense drop for Savate puts Birkal at a bit of a disadvantage here! However, it's not about the Pokemon, but how you use them! Let's see what the trainers do!

One advantage that Birkal has is that Savate will be going first, so let's see what happens! Looks like Savate is quickly trying to shut down Samurai's massive bag of tricks with a Taunt! Good first move, does Engineer have an answer for it? Hmm, no, doesn't look like it! Samurai is taunted, which gives Birkal a nice advantage! But if Samurai wasn't countering that Taunt, then what was he doing? Oh, it looks like he was preparing something nasty! By generating a Shadow Ball and combining it with the flames of Will-O-Wisp, he's made a dangerous Ghost Ball! And he's firing it right at Savate! It connects! Looks like Will-O-Wisp's Fire typing dominated the combination, so it didn't hurt nearly as much as it could have, but the damage has been done; Savate is burned! Given Savate's tendency towards physical attacks, that could be a huge problem!

Unfortunately, for now Birkal can't do much about the problem, so instead Savate charges forward to carry out the offensive! A huge slash across the chest of the enemy Gallade as the Aerial Ace strikes true, and it's super effective, allowing it to deal some solid damage to Samurai. Meanwhile, as effective as that Ghost Ball was it did take a lot out of Samurai, and so Engineer can't do much but watch as Samurai recovers from his combo! However, he's probably perfectly fine with that as the burn continues to wear away at Savate and blunt his offense.

Birkal, seemingly looking to maximize the effects of his Expert Belt, calls for a Shadow Sneak from Savate! The Gallade melts into the shadows, and before Samurai can react, strikes with a rapid blow that's super effective! However, it still didn't do a whole lot between the burn and Shadow Sneak's naturally low BAP, and unlike last action this time Samurai can counter attack! Suddenly Samurai starts generating an incredibly bright light, and then fires it at Savate! Looks like a Dazzling Gleam, and it's super effective! That definitely stung, and looking at the stats Samurai has a slight edge in HP once everything is said and done, and with that burn on Savate Birkal is going to be hard pressed to change that! That being said, Engineer has to order first, and with Samurai taunted and Savate being faster, his options are rather limited! This is shaping up to be a great battle folks, so strap in and enjoy the ride!

And we're back for round 2 of this exciting matchup! Last time Engineer took an early edge by getting a timely burn on Savate, Birkal's Gallade, but now his own Gallade, Samurai, is taunted and stuck ordering first! It looks like Engineer isn't a fan of this plan though, because he's switching out! Out goes Samurai and in comes Tamama the Togekiss! Looks like Engineer has eschewed the traditional Scope Lens/Super Luck combo in favour of an Expert Belt for his Togekiss. Interesting choice! Birkal meanwhile wants precisely none of this matchup, and for very good reason, so he's making a switch as well! Who's he going to bring out? Looks like it's Bzzt the Rotom-H! With an Everstone, it has beastly defenses, and the type advantage will certainly help as well! However, now Birkal has to order first, so let's see what he does!

Neither of these Pokemon are exactly Speed demons, but Bzzt is the faster of two and will get us started off! Looks like there's no pussyfooting around this round! There goes a Thunderbolt, a direct hit on Tamama! It's super effective, and according to the scanners that was a critical hit to boot! Nice shot by Bzzt to give Birkal an early edge in the matchup! However, it looks like Tamama isn't going to retaliate just yet! Instead she's summoning some strong winds coming from behind him and his and his trainer; it's a Tailwind! Suddenly Tamama has gone from being slightly slower than Bzzt to being much, much faster! It won't last forever, but for now it looks like Engineer has the Speed advantage! But what can he do with it?

Now that he's faster, it looks like Tamama's going on the offensive! Bzzt, sensing trouble, seems to be preparing to put up some sort of defense, but now Tamama's too fast! She summons up a few orbs of power and flings them at the Rotom-H! And ouch! Judging from Bzzt's incredibly pained reaction, that had to be a Hidden Power Ground! That's a super effective blow alright, a shame for Birkal that Bzzt wasn't quite able to get that shield up! Speaking of which, Bzzt now puts up the Light Screen that Birkal was clearly hoping would go up before Hidden Power struck; however, it'll still put a large dent in Hidden Power's already low BAP, which should help even the tides of this damage race!

Tamama cares little about Bzzt's shield though, as he goes right back to Hidden Power Ground! The orbs come flying in again, but this time most of their power is absorbed by the shield, and while it's still super effective, the damage isn't nearly as impressive as last time. And this time Bzzt is ready to retaliate! Looks like he's firing off a Charge Beam! But no! The attack missed! A rough turn of events for Birkal after that critical hit earlier! Lady Luck giveth, and Lady Luck taketh! With the round over, at first glance Tamama has the edge; however, with that Light Screen in place he'll be hard pressed to hurt Bzzt, and this time Engineer has to order first; he doesn't have the option to switch since he switched last round! It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens!

Here we go, time for round 3 of this Best of the Best battle! With Engineer unable to switch this round Tamama doesn't have much choice but to go on the offensive right away! Wasting no time, he's already distorting the air around Bzzt! And ouch! There's an Air Slash for you! And it was a critical hit, completely ignoring the Light Screen! But it's still not very effective, and more importantly it looks like Bzzt is still able to act! It seems to be draining its own life force, which can only mean one thing; it's a Substitute! It has 20 HP, and with that Light Screen blunting special attacks it might stick around for a while!

The substitute isn't going to deter Tamama anytime soon, though, and he goes right back to work, generating his orbs of energy once again! There goes another Hidden Power Ground, right at Bzzt! It hits the substitute, but the substitute holds firm, and now Bzzt can retaliate! And oh my, it's not going to be pretty! There's a Pain Split! And just like that Bzzt has orchestrated a 40 point HP swing! What a move! Tamama is going to be hard pressed to come back from that!

The Togekiss isn't going down without a fight though; he's rending the air with yet another Air Slash! It's still not very effective though, and this time, he doesn't get the crit, which means the substitute tanks the blow and still holds firm, keeping Bzzt from flinching! Looks like Bzzt is going to take advantage too, as he's firing off a Thunderbolt! Ouch! Tamama may have some solid defenses, but that still hurt! All of a sudden Birkal seems to be in the driver's seat here, but there's still plenty of time! What will Engineer do to get back into this one?

Time for round four! Birkal seems to have Engineer Pikachu in a rough spot! Will he be able to fight out of it? Let's find out! Low on HP, Tamama only has one option to survive the round, and he makes use of it immediately; it's an Endure! Tamama braced himself, hoping to survive for the round! Bzzt completely ignores it though, and fires off a powerful Discharge! It's super effective, and the extra electricity surges through Tamama, leaving him paralyzed! This could make an already bad situation even worse for Engineer!

Between Engineer's Tailwind wearing off and the paralysis on Tamama, Bzzt now finds himself the faster of the two, and continues his assault with a Thunderbolt! Another super effective blow, but Tamama endured the hit, staying alive for a while longer yet! However, that paralysis is already having its effect; Tamama is fully paralyzed! The Light Screen finally wears off, but Bzzt still has that substitute to shield it for a bit!

Despite the Endure, Bzzt is going full out on offense, nailing Tamama with another Discharge! It's super effective and a critical hit to boot! But Tamama endures the hit despite all that! However, the Discharge does refresh the paralysis, leaving Tamama just as likely to fail to attack as before! Can he finally get off a counterattack? He does! It's a Hidden Power Ground, and it's super effective! It nails the substitute, and the substitute fades! However, with the round over Tamama can no longer use Endure, which means his time is probably just about up! Will Engineer replace him and save him for a last gasp later, or will he keep Tamama in for a bit more offense against Bzzt?

If Sableye is already paralyzed when you would act on A2, replace that action with Discharge.
If Knock Off removes your Oven (for some reason that has no precedent both ingame or ASB), please let me reorder.

I'm assuming that Knock Off does not, in fact, remove Rotom's Oven form because that would make no goddamn sense. If someone tells me otherwise, then I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Engineer has decided that having a 1 HP Pokemon on the bench is worth more than any last-ditch offense he might get out of Tamama here, and he's making a switch! Will he go back to Samurai, or bring out his third and final Pokemon? Here it comes... It's Tenma the Sableye! With an Everstone to boost his Attack and Defense sky high, this is going to be a tough nut for Birkal to crack! However, he's confident in Bzzt's chances despite the low amount of energy, and he's sticking with his Rotom as a result! This should be interesting!

Bzzt is wasting no time welcoming Tenma to the battlefield, firing a Thunderbolt at him! It's a neutral hit, but with Sableye only having Rank 3 Special Defense and 90 HP that's still a solid chunk of damage! Looks like Tenma is hoping to make it a bit less damage next time though, as he moves in with a Knock Off! It's a solid hit, but more importantly Tenma has knocked away Bzzt's Everstone! That reduces Bzzt's defenses and reduces the power of Bzzt's Electric and Fire moves. That should be useful!

Hoping to limit Tenma's ability to successfully execute attacks, Bzzt is hitting the Sableye with a Thunder Wave! Tenma is paralyzed, which won't do much in terms of Speed but could screw up Engineer's plans at an inopportune time! And it pays immediate dividends, as Tenma is fully paralyzed! Tough break for Engineer, who's certainly hoping to put this Rotom away ASAP!

Running low on energy, Bzzt nonetheless finds just enough power inside itself to fire off one last Thunderbolt at Tenma! It hits hard, but now Bzzt has quite literally nothing left to give! Tenma takes advantage, fighting off the effects of the paralysis and smacking the Rotom with a powerful Payback to end the round! Bzzt is running on fumes at this point, but the Rotom has put a solid dent into Tenma's HP total, and still has the HP to come in and possibly do something later on! However, if he leaves Rotom in, while Rotom likely will go down, he'll have the all-important second order after Rotom faints! It'll definitely be interesting to see what Birkal does here!

With Bzzt on its last legs, Birkal nonetheless keeps it in the battle! Will it be the right choice? We'll find out before long! Gathering every last bit of energy it has, the Rotom barely manages to fire off a Discharge before falling to the ground! It does some decent damage, but Bzzt has fainted from exhaustion! As for Tenma, realizing that Bzzt was doomed even without his help, so he decided to instead prepare for the next matchup with a Moonlight! Tenma recovered some HP, as we now have to wait and see what Birkal will bring out next! Will he go back to his Gallade, or will Kecleon see his first action of the match?
