Overview
########

Despite its NU status Seismitoad is still a solid choice in RU. Between Seismitoad’s excellent typing, only being weak to Grass-type, and its decent mixed 105 / 75 / 75 bulk Seismitoad is very capable of taking hits. Seismitoad’s bulk is bolstered by its ability Water Absorb, which grants it an immunity to Water-type moves, as well as healing it by 25% when it is hit by a Water-type move. Gastrodon has an identical typing, similar bulk and ability, however, unlike Gastrodon, while Seismitoad lacks Recover, it does have access to the ever important Stealth Rocks. With Seismitoad’s good bulk and ability it is able to effectively check common Pokemon like Kabutops and Doublade. Offensively Seismitoad isn’t to be snuffed at, its STAB coverage is near perfect, with only Grass-types resisting both, Seismitoad has access to Sludge Bomb to compensate for this somewhat.

While Seismitoad may only have one weakness, to Grass, it is times four weak to it. Matters only made worse as Grass-types resist Seismitoad’s dual STAB and are Grass-types are fairly common. Seismtoad’s base Attack stat is larger than its Special Attack; Seismitoad lacks any physical Water-type STAB moves to make use of this. This forces offensive Seismitoad’s to utilise its weaker Special Attack and movepool. However, Seismitoad’s special movepool isn’t perfect either as it misses out on Ice Beam and has to use Sludge Bomb. Seismitoad has no access to reliable recovery leaving it prone to being worn down by status and hazards.

Offensive Stealth Rock
########
name: Offensive Stealth Rock
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Hydro Pump / Scald
move 3: Earth Power
move 4: Sludge Bomb
ability: Water Absorb
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
evs: 164 HP / 252 SpA / 92 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========
  • Stealth Rocks, best hazards.
  • Hydro Pump, strong Water-type STAB. OHKOes Gligar among other common Pokemon.
  • Earth Power, secondary STAB, OHKOes Doublade.
  • Sludge Bomb lets Seismitoad deal damage to Grass-types like Verizion, and Fairy-types like Aromatisse, however it doesn't 2HKO without the getting the poison chance.
  • Knock Off could be used on the forth slot for the support value.
Set Details
========
  • Max Special Attack with a Life Orb to deal the most damage possible.
  • 92 Speed EVs allow you to outspeed Gligar.
  • The rest is run in a HP to give Seismitoad as much bulk as can be achieved.
  • If you run Knock Off you should still opt for a Modest nature to retain both the important speed tier and Seismitoad's bulk.
Team Options
========
  • Amoonguss, and other Grass-types, is a good switch in on Grass-types and Seismitoad can take Fire-type moves for it.
  • Pokemon which can beat Grass-types like Delphox, Yanmega, and Escavalier are all appreciated. Their typings are all supported by Seismitoad resisting Fire- and Rock-type moves.
  • Moltres has good offensive and defensive synergy with Seismitoad.
  • Doublade spin blocks effectively against Hitmonlee.
  • Braviary takes advantage of defog being able to beat Golbat and Shiftry, Seismitoad can't OHKO the former and can't stay in on the latter.
Support
########
name: Support
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Scald
move 3: Earth Power / Earthquake
move 4: Toxic / Knock Off
ability: Water Absorb
item: Leftovers
evs: 216 HP / 200 Def / 92 Spe
nature: Bold / Relaxed

Moves
========
  • Stealth Rocks best form of hazards, main reason to use Seismitoad over Gastrodon.
  • Scald has the chance to burn and allows Seismitoad to beat opposing Ground-types.
  • Earth Power lets Seismitoad check Doublade and hits Fire-types harder than Scald. Secondary STAB move.
  • Toxic catches Seismitoad's switch ins and aim to wear them down.
  • Knock Off removes items, neutering opposing Pokemon to a degree.
  • Earthquake can KO Roselia after Knock Off and Stealth Rocks. Earthquake Doesn't 2HKO Doublade, without Knock Off.
Set Details
========
  • Water Absorb heals 25% health if Seismitoad is hit by a Water-type move.
  • Leftovers gives Seismitoad a small form of recovery each turn, improving longevity somewhat.
  • 92 Speed EVs outspeed neutrally invest base 85s. Allowing Seismitoad to better check Gligar and get a Toxic off on Cresselia before it can set up a Substitute.
  • 216 HP gives Seismitoad a good number of HP for leftovers and hazard damage on switch ins.
  • The rest is invested in Defense to allow Seismitoad to take Physical hits as well as possible.
  • If you are running Earthquake an alternate spread of 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe should be used with a relaxed nature. The Speed investment is there to outspeed minimum Speed Roselis.
Usage Tips
========
  • Simply by the nature of this set it will find the most use towards the start of the game to set up Stealth Rocks.
  • Toxic should be used on predicted switches to Pokemon which threaten Seismitoad to aim to wear them down so Seismitoad can preform throughout the battle.
  • If the opponent has a Pokemon like Doublade it will be worth keeping Seismitoad at high enough HP so it can effectively check it later in the game.
Team Options
========
  • Amoonguss is a good switch in on Grass-types and Seismitoad can take Fire-type moves for it.
  • Pokemon which can beat Grass-types like Delphox, Yanmega, and Escavalier are all appreciated. Their typings are all supported by Seismitoad resisting Fire- and Rock-type moves.
  • Roselia can stack Spikes and Toxic Spikes, which accompanied by Seismitoad's Stealth Rocks put pressure on the opponent. The two have good defensive synergy together.
  • Seismitoad hugely appreciates Wish and Cleric support from the likes of Aromatisse and Lickilicky.
Swift Swim
########
name: Swift Swim
move 1: Hydro Pump / Scald
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Sludge Wave
move 4: Rain Dance
ability: Swift Swim
item: Life Orb / Damp Rock
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========
  • Hydro Pump is ridiculously strong in rain.
  • Scald is only if you don't want to miss Hydro Pump, but it is a lot weaker. Scald is used over Surf as they get the same 2HKOes and Scald cure freeze.
  • Earth Power secondary STAB move to hit Steel-types.
  • Sludge Wave hits the Grass-types that try and which on Hydro Pump. Sludge Wave is stronger than Sludge Bomb and the poison chance isn't as important.
  • Rain Dance is used to set up rain.
  • Stealth Rocks could be run on the fourth moveslot if your team has enough Rain Dance users and needs Stealth Rocks. Rain Dance is still generally more useful.
Set Details
========
  • Life Orb boost the power of Seismitoad's attacks, helps with Seismitoad's mediocre Special Attack.
  • Damp Rock increase the duration of rain from 5 to 8 turns.
  • Modest nature allows Seismitoad to hit as hard as possible. Speed boosting nature isn't needed as Seismitoads Speed is doubled in the rain.
  • Swift Swim doubles Seismitoad's Speed in rain.
  • Max Speed and Special Attack.
  • The 4 EV's make very little difference but shouldn't be run in HP. Running them in HP Seismitoad will take more passive damage.
Usage Tips
========
  • Seismitoad should be kept in the back until Pokemon like Amoonguss and Slowking which completely stop it have been KOed and Pokemon like Tangrowth have been weakened to the point that Sludge Wave can KO.
  • Rain Dance should be set up as soon as Seismitoad has the possibility to sweep as it is relatively slow outside of rain.
  • While not the best at this Seismitoad could not be run on a dedicated rain team and kept in the back to aim to preform a late game sweep.
Team Options
========
  • Other Rain Dance setters like Uxie can set reliably set up rain and then switch in to Seismitoad with U-turn. Uxie can also use Yawn to aim to get Seismitoad a free switch in.
  • Amoonguss enjoys rain weakening Fire-type moves and can easily take the Grass-type moves that threaten Seismitoad.
  • Other Swift Swim sweepers can finish of the sweep that Seismitoad started.
  • Flying-types like Moltres and Fletchinder can beat the Grass-types that threaten Seismitoad and enjoys seismitoad removing grounded Steel-types and Rock-types. Moltres in particular appreciates the rain for the boosted accuracy to its Hurricane.
  • Electric-types like Jolteon, Heliolisk, and Rotom-C can break Slowking with being able to now use Thunder in the rain.
  • Liepard can both set up rain, it can also lock opponents into support moves with Encore to get Seismitoad a free switch in with U-turn.
Other Options
########
  • Grass Knot hits Slowking harder than Earth Power but won't 2HKO. Weaker against Alomomola.
  • Offensive Substitute Toxic set.
  • A physical set is possible with moves like Earthquake, Ice Punch, and Knock Off.
  • Refresh could be used to remove status from Seismitoad.
  • Grass-types other than Amoonguss and Roselia must be wary of the offensive sets.
Checks & Counters
########
  • Grass-types resist Seismitoad's dual STAB, Amoonguss doesn't resist Earth Power but will never be 2HKOed regardless of investment, resists Water-type STAB and is immune to Toxic. Tangrowth, especially Assault Vest, can take any of Seismitoad's moves and OHKO with Grass-type STAB moves, Regenerator somewhat nullifies Toxic damage. Virizion can set-up on or OHKO Seismitoad. Rotom-C is immune to Earth Power and resists Sesmitoad's Water-type STAB moves, must be wary of Sludge Bomb. Grass-type coverage moves check Seismitoad, Yanmega's Giga Drain.
  • Specially defensive Pokemon. Assault Vest Slowking can take any move, and OHKO with Grass Knot or 2HKO the Swift Swim set with Scald in rain. Regenerator lessens the effects of Toxic. Aromatisse can't be Toxic stalled as it has Aromatherapy and Wish to heal off any damage.
  • Any form of passive damage will wear down Seismitoad quickly as it lacks reliable recovery, this especially true for the Swift Swim set.

Overview
########
[Pros]
  • Good typing only weak to one type.
  • Decent mixed bulk. 105 / 75 / 75.
  • Has access to Stealth Rocks unlike Gastrodon.
  • Two good abilities.
  • Checks common Pokemon like Kabutops and Doublade.
  • Good STAB coverage.
[Cons]
  • Four times weak to Grass, which is common.
  • Movepool has some holes in it, no Ice Beam or Physical Water-type move.
  • Competes with other defensive Ground-types.
  • No reliable recovery makes Seismitoad easily worn down.

Ok I'm not QC but here goes ( I might add more later):

Overview is a little lacking. In general, you want to cover Typing / Moves / Abilities / Niche / Competition / Stats / Anything Else Unique About It.

You say it has a good typing. What does it resist?

You say it has two good abilities. What are those abilities and how do they help Seismitoad succeed?

You say it has it receives competition from bulky Ground- types. Who are these bulky Ground-types you speak of, why do they give it competition, and what does Seismitoad have over these Pokemon?

Also I would mention in Cons that it receives competition from other Swift Swimmers but it separates itself from the pack with its Water /Ground typing that makes it immune to Electric moves. Speaking of Electric, maybe mention in Pros that it is a good check to Electric types or just add that on to your last bullet point for Pros.

On Team Options for the Swift Swim set, mention examples of other Swimmers. Mantine is a good example as it beats the Grass-types that threaten Seismitoad with its STAB Air Slash.

Hope I helped! :D

It's not, Mantine has very little offensive presence and the 2 most common grass-types are Rotom-C and Virizion, both of which can handle Mantine pretty well.

Thanks for correcting me on that. A better example is Ludicolo or possibly Kabutops (Kabutops is walled cold by Virizion though).

For someone who as you can se uses seismitoad a lot, there are a few things. On the support set give knock off the first and only slash for the fourth move and mention toxic in the moves. Also add wish passers to teammates for the support set. I don't really use offensive toad outside of nu so I won't comment on it but in ok just change offensive sub toxic to just sub toxic. Also taunt users to c and c.
Edit: just make toxic secondary slash because cress is a bitch.

Sorry but Worldtour this may or may not be dead if it is I'll take it over archeops should qc approve it and if you guys approve it and not sneasel then I'll take him over sneasel.

This isn't dead, however from what it sounds like in the reservation thread QC is debating whether Seismitoad should get an analysis.

I've talked to QC a bit and most of us are p. sure Seismitoad is viable enough for an analysis, however there's a particular set we'd like to see listed, and thats a more offensive varient of support set. Offensive SR Seismitoad is one of those Stealth Rock setters that with the correct EV spread, can do all of take hits, hit hard, reliably get up Stealth Rock, and threaten the two most common defog users, all at once. Set listed below.

Seismitoad @ Life Orb
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 164 HP / 252 SpA / 92 Spe
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Hydro Pump
- Sludge Bomb
- Earth Power

The Speed evs here make sure Seismitoad can outrun minimum Speed Gligar to Smack it with a Hydro Pump, while also ensuring that it can underspeed Golbat to hit it with a STAB Earth Power on the Roost. Scald could be used over Hydro Pump for the burn chance, but Seismitoad's power suffers a bit from doing so. Sludge Bomb is used here to pressure Aromatisse a bit more than Seismitoad's other coverage moves (doesn't 2HKO after rocks because of Protect, but rocks+literally any other prior damage seals it iirc, not to mention the poison damage) while hitting Virizion pretty hard on the switch in. Knock Off probably deserves a mention in moves however, you really aren't using it for the damage, so i could see the Modest nature staying in that case, especially since Seismitoad needs all of its bulk and that very specific Speed tier.

tagging Spirit because he has more experience with this set than i do.

this thing is pretty much swampert for RU/NU, lol..

And with Offensive SR now implemented, I'll go over this:

[Overview]

- Mention the good STAB coverage it gets as Offensive SR is now a thing

[Offensive SR]

- Take the "s" off of Rocks in set name
- Mention Moltres in team options. It has perfect defensive synergy with Seismitoad and Tres is able to maintain offensive pressure vs. Grass-types
- Note Doublade for its ability to spinblock Hitmonlee rather reliably
- Braviary to take advantage of Defog users, primarily Golbat and Shiftry, as Seismitoad can't OHKO the former and can't afford to stay in on the latter

[Support]

- Moltres for the defensive synergy
- Roselia can form a neat hazard stacking core with Seismitoad
- Wish / Cleric support. Aromatisse and Lickilicky do both.

[Swift Swim]

- Electric-types (Jolteon, Rotom-C, Heliolisk) can destroy Slowking and other bulky Water-types and appreciate being able to use Thunder
- Note that Uxie can also utilize Yawn to give Seismitoad a near-guaranteed switch-in opportunity
- Add Liepard for similar reasons as Uxie, though it typically uses Encore + U-turn
- Ludicolo, in particular, makes for a good Swift Swim sweeper since it takes out Slowking and Tangrowth rather easily.

[Other Options]

- Note that Grass-types other than Amoonguss need to be wary of the offensive sets

Add all this, and consider the Toad

QC Approved 1/3

So it just came to my attention that Seismitoad's Attack stat is actually higher than its Special Attack stat (although it doesn't even get a physical water-type move >__>).

Knowing this now i'd really like to see a Relaxed nature slashed alongside the Bold nature on the defensive set and Earthquake slashed alongside Earth Power. I know that the current spread has some speed creep that catches some important mons such as Gligar and Cresselia, but i don't see the hurt of giving a mention to a more physically defensive spread to use with the Relaxed nature in set details, so it shouldn't be a real problem imo. On top of that running a relaxed nature also happens to power up your Knock Off slightly.

EDIT: for the relaxed nature spread i'd make it 248 HP, 252 Defense, 8 Speed. This lets you outrun minimum Speed Roselia, slap it with a Knock Off on the switch, then outspeed it and KO with an Earthquake on the following turn.
