You are walking through the corridors towards the ASB Arena, where a battle you are taking part in was scheduled. When you are getting near the end, a suspicious looking character gets in your way.

- Greetings, trainer.
- Who are you, if I may know?
- Oh, me? I’m the ref that got hired for your battle.

You take a look at him, and confirm that he is indeed wearing the uniform characteristic of refs. You can also see his ID.

- Oh, is there a problem? – You ask, now curious.
- No, no problem. Just wondering if you would want to discuss some… things.
- Things? Like what?
- You know, there are a lot of things I have control over during the battles. I could, you know, make some “tweaks” here and there, make sure some things happen and some don’t.
- Wait, are you offering to rig the battle in my favor?
- Oh, no, I would never do that. Just saying that I could make things happen, not that I would do it if someone asked me. Do you get it?

You nod slowly. He then walks in the direction you came from, while you decide to continue forward. You can’t stop thinking about what he said, as you realize he could have made the same offer to your opponent, too.


Arena Mechanics:

- ASB Arena. At least at the start.

- Ref’s Favor: The core part of the arena. Each player gets X amount of “favors”, which they can use to “make sure things happen, or don’t.” This is activated by using an extra, free sub specially for this. Example:

Horn Drill + Horn Drill Combo - Cooldown (Earthquake) – Earhquake
-[Ref’s Favor] Make Horn Drill + Horn Drill combo hit.

Conflicting favors nullify each others, but they still use up a favor. If the opponent asked the referee for the combo to miss, then the accuracy of the combo would be checked normally.

You can also use it in an attack or chance sub, but then you don't get the free sub. For example:

Pain Split - Chill - Crunch
- [Ref's Favor] IF Focus Blast AND in a combo, THEN make the combo miss.

Would use one of your regular subs.

Only one Favor may be used per round.

Things You Can Ask For:
- A move/combo to hit/miss. --% accuracy moves/combos can not miss, even with a favor.
- A secondary effect to happen/not happen.
- Increase/decrease a field effect's duration (maximum one round for those that last certain amount of rounds, maximum two actions for those that last a certain amount of actions).
- Make sure a crit happens/doesn't happen.
- Get rid of a minor status.
- Cause a consecutive move use penalty, even if the move was not used last action. This stacks with natural consecutive use penalty (Earthquake *3 can go from 7+11+15 to 11+15+19).
- Make a consecutive move use penalty dissapear (Earthquake *3 can go from 7+11+15 to 7+11+7).
- Interrupt charge attacks with single hit moves.
- Make an attack work as if a certain condition had been fullfiled. Example: Solar Beam haviing 6 BAP for a use, making a charge attack have no charge time, Synthesis healing as if the weather was sunny, etc.
- Ask for a certain move to be rolled via Sleep talk / Assits / Metronome / Similar moves.
- More to be added.

Things You May NOT ask for:
- Use of a move your mon doesn't know.
- Make your oponent's mon forget a move.
- Get rid of mayor status ailments.
- Create a field effect.
- Gain an Ability.
- Change type effectiveness.
- Inflict a status, minor or mayor.

- OHKOes, invulnerabilitie, and other dumb things.

ZhengTann, a guy who really likes flavor in Pokémon profiles.
Lucario(*) Gray (M)

Gray the Riolu first clapped eyes on Zt when he hatched, and has followed him ever since, after bidding goodbye to his birth parents. His desire to be as good as his father (who was a well-known Pokemon in Sinnoh) drives him to perfect his body and trademark Aura Sight in all forms of training. Gray is Natsu’s rival in every way, however it’s not unusual to see them interrupt their fights just to face ‘outsiders’. Like his Ice-Making namesake, Gray is a thinking brawler. His intuition for fights, along with his uncanny ability to read his opponents movements, means he can usually counter the same instant his opponent makes a move. Oddly enough, despite numerous brawls, he sometimes still can’t read Natsu’s moves correctly.

The Hall training was grueling and long, for which Gray took quite some time to getting used to. But it honed his patience, well until the point where there remained very few things that can still bother him - those he held dear to his heart. Using his mind, he started learning how to read and shape energy, to wield his mind as a separate weapon form his body. He plans to put that to great use, still holding a secret ambition to meet and challenge his birth father again, as unlikely as it may be. His aura improved tremendously with the training of his mind and body in the Halls as well as the possession of a Lucarionite - to the point where he can sense danger to a certain extent miles away.


Nature: Mild (+1 SpAtk, -1 Def)

Type:
Fighting type: Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.

Steel type: Steel STAB; immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible thereafter.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Steadfast
Type: Passive
If Gray would be flinched by an attack, it becomes aware of the speed difference and increases Speed by one (1) stage to make up the difference. This Speed boost is maintained at the end of each round.

Ability 2: Inner Focus
Type: Passive
When an opponent attempts to flinch Gray, it stands firm and continues its attack. If it has another ability that would be activated by flinching, that ability activates.

Ability 3: Justified (DW unlocked)
Type: Passive
Gray's body reacts to dark aura, invigorating his passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, Gray's attack will increase by one (1) stage. A boost gained this way by another Pokemon's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

"Hey mon," is probably Elfman's QOTD, all day, everyday. His easy-going attitude is reflective of his species' nature - slowly pacing on with the simple pleasures of daily life. Or so it seems. Elfman is as stubborn as they come - in fact, he got into a tussle with Natsu just because they wanted to cross the same (outer) side of the ledge. It took Gray's help to wrestle him down (a fact all but Gray is unhappy about) but Zheng's capture brought him into the family. Being slow to anger doesn't mean Elfman is slow on the uptake, but it does mean that he's slow to cooldown after he gets really riled up.

Having a family to be with changes Elfman - he is becoming more and more a stolid guardian than a laid-back jock. Steadfast to the point of tactless, he will not give way if he feels that his family is threatened. He is especially protective of Mirajane, and will often go out of his way to help her in any way perceived possible.

Nature: Quiet (+1 SpAtk, -15% Speed, -10% evasion)

Ground type: Ground STAB; immune to Sandstorm. Ignores Arena restrictions on Dig and Seismic Attacks for Arenas in which any land mass exists, Evasive Digging reduced from 6 per action Energy Cost to 5 per action.

Ability 3: Anger Point (DW Unlocked)
Type: Passive
When struck with a critical hit, Elfman becomes enraged and its Attack rises to maximum (Stage 6). However, his Attack will drop up to two (2) stages at the end of each round instead of one (1) stage until it reaches the Pokemon's natural Attack stage. Critical hits from self-targeting moves do not activate Anger Point.

Gajeel is rather different, compared to the rest of the lot - probably his dark instincts gave him a bit of a "lone wolf" attitude. Efficient in his ways, smart in his pose, Gajeel would have a hard time fitting in - except that the girls are incredibly forgiving, and while the guys wouldn't hesitate bringing on a throwdown (save for Elfman, who repaid his indifference with barely a shrug), they never keep past grudges. Its what drove Gajeel to approach Zheng after many days of stalking them - eating, living, fighting with the affectionate way only siblings might have had. He is no slouch either - holding his own even against Erza is no small feat in the family.

Having treasure-hunted a Dusk Stone, Gajeel spent some days learning how to learn the arts native to his species, guarded by Pantherlily in the progress. The transformation itself is painful, but having endured it, something seems... both more and less in him now. When Zheng found out about his sudden bursts of suppressed emotions, it can only be attributed to Gajeel's efforts. Seeing it as only the results of his evolution, Zheng did nothing else but allow him to discover this new path, mostly on his own. What Zheng didn't know though, was that the lads have secretly form an agreement - to take turns watch over Gajeel whenever he had one of his bursts.

Nature: Mild (+1 SpA, -1 Def)

Dark type: Dark STAB; ignores Attract and Confusion status entirely when using Dark-type damaging and non-damaging attacks.

Flying type: Flying STAB; immunity to Ground attacks and the Arena Trap Ability except under the effects of Smack Down and Gravity, even for ground-based flying Pokemon. Will always hit foes with Dig (except other Flying types) and Dive. Cannot be hit by Dive unless the attacking Pokemon has a size class greater than four (4). Unaffected by Spikes or Toxic Spikes. when switching in. Able to hit Pokemon in the evasive stage of Bounce, Fly or Sky Drop with single target moves that hit Pokemon on the field regardless of position.

This Pokemon is immune to sleep induced by other Pokemon. Its normal state of sleeplessness makes it take 1 less damage and energy/action from Ghost Curse. If it is put to sleep by a Pokemon with Mold Breaker, it will wake up the next action.

Type: Passive
This Pokemon’s natural skill increases its critical hit levels one stage above other Pokemon, making its normal moves inflict critical hits 12.5% of the time and its high critical hit moves inflict critical hits 25% of the time.

Ability 3: Moxie (DW Unlocked)
Type: Passive
This Pokemon gets psyched after it earns a KO on an opposing Pokemon, increasing its attack by one (1) stage. This boost is maintained at the end of each round.

Mirajane is a sweet girl, always smiling at everyone, even though she sometimes do gets into fights with Erza when the latter is not busy pounding Natsu. She helped Elfman overcome his innate fear to swimming by teaching him patiently in Lake Lucid. As a result, the latter treated her as an elder sister, always protective of her while respecting her opinions on every turn. In turn, Mirajane always stays near Elfman for guidance, often perching atop his head on journeys and summoning sunny skies to invigorate the Numel. Despite her small stature, no one else in the family looks upon her as the one to be protected - Mirajane is very capable of looking after herself, usually resolving conflicts around her in a diplomatic way but more than willing to respond with force if necessary.

Nature: Modest (+1 SpA, -1 Atk)

Type (weather-dependent):
Normal type: Normal STAB; +1 BAP on attacks that match dominant arena type after 3 actions. Thrash or Outrage will not be disrupted by oncoming damage.
Sunny Fire type: Fire STAB; immune to burn status. Brighten Command.
Rainy Water type: Water STAB; Ignores arena restrictions on Water attacks that require an external water source. Evasive Diving energy cost reduced to 5 per action.
Snowy Ice type: Ice STAB; immune to Hail damage, freeze status, and Sheer Cold. Frost Command.

Mirajane is adept at changing and adapting to the weather, granting her immunity to all forms of weather. ROUND 1

A battler and the ref look at each others eyes. Then, the battler nods. The referee nods back.

Back at the arena, we can see Kafei concentrating all its strengh in its fist. Not wanting to take any hits, Mirajane tries to blind the Azumarill with a Flash of light.

But it misses. Completely.

And then the Castform gets smacked by the incredbly powerful fighting-type move.

ZhengTann, not being able to digest what is happening, orders Mirajane to go on the offensive, with a relatively weak Round attack. While this move does hit, the damage is very low, and is not enough to intimidate Kafei, who charges with a water energy infused tail. An attack that misses.

Not wanting to deal with this longer, the Castform readies a delayed attack, only to get smacked again by the powerful fist of the Azumarill.

Frosty has a considerable advantage now, having used one of its mane (read: unlimited) flavors. However, this si far from over (and I mean FAR). Can ZhengTann be succesful while ordering second?.


Arena Notes: modify it so only moves with imperfect accuracy (not only --, but 100%) can be asked to miss. The current version allows way too many free actions. May want to do something about freeze, too.

Frosty is a troll.

Except he forgot that Knock Off is disabled (ZhengTann did, too, but he wasn't the one that ended in a bad position because of it).

So this ended with no favors being executed and ZhengTann dealing great damage while receiving almost none. A lucky burn also helped archieve that.

Sadly for him, I just notices I had been calcing Zant's damage as if it had rank 5 atk instead of 6, so Castform has a little less HP and En. Hopefuly, this won't affect the match too much...
