"Wow Colbrushie Avalugg is NU what's wrong with you"

No what's wrong with you this thing took down the Titanic what makes you think Haxorus stands a chance

+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Mold Breaker Haxorus Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg: 282-333 (71.5 - 84.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock - is actually less chance if you come in on SD because you get lefties :]

+2 252+ Atk Mold Breaker Haxorus Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg: 217-256 (55 - 64.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

The only chance Haxorus has to KO is with an Adamant nature and LO and SD on switch and Outrage.

And the moment Haxorus touches the iceberg...

4 Atk Avalugg Avalanche vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Haxorus: 324-384 (110.2 - 130.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Can also spin hazards and toxic stall physical mons with 95/184 defenses

Just remember it's not exactly the epitome of special bulk (and its typing isn't exactly what you want in a defensive mon either)

So I realized Hax could just set up another dance.

Time to find a new poke.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Counter / Gyro Ball
- Toxic / Pain Split / Gyro Ball
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock / Spikes

So in my opinion checks and counters has to be pokemon that works outside from only checking or countering this one pokemon. Forretress is an great example of this as it easely walls Haxorus and beats it, the set that I made depends on how weak you are to Haxorus and what tasks you need it for. Forretress doesn't only wall Haxorus extremely consistently but also provides the team with great team support in moves like Toxic, Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin. The reason Counter is set over Gyro Ball is because it deals better with Haxorus and other physical threats that wants to wear it down. I guess theres not much more to explain, Forretress walls the most used double dance Haxorus set utilizing Lum Berry and Jolly nature, but can take a hit from Adamant Lo +2 Haxorus and ko back with Counter as well.

Here are some calcs:

+2 252 Atk Mold Breaker Haxorus Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Forretress: 136-160 (38.4 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Mold Breaker Haxorus Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Forretress: 194-229 (54.8 - 64.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Those calcs are the most relevant ones as DD is beaten by Gyro Ball no matter what, you can easely see that Forretress can switch in on the SD and ko back with Counter.

Get Rekt Nerds, Ditto as a check.

Ditto @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Imposter
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Transform

Ditto is a little bastard that steals your opponents hard earned boosts and proceeds to sweep with them. Don't switch Ditto in on an attack and you win. Ditto has the most viability on teams facing boosting sweepers, so Hax fits the bill. Ditto even fits in some stall kinda like how people use 1 offensive threat to deal with stuff they can't counter well.

252+ Mold Breaker Haxorus Dragon Claw vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Haxorus: 344-408 (117.4 - 139.2%) -- Guaranteed OHKO (and sweep on weakened teams XD)

If ditto switches in on an attack it dies and if it switches in on a DD then you've got a 50/50 on your hands.
That's where prediction/ u-turn and volt switching comes to play, the upside to Ditto is that you can steal boosts to sweep your opponents team. It's really easy to slap a Choice Scarf on a faster mon and call it a day, but if you play your ditto right it can sweep easily. Haxorus is also forced to play more conservatively knowing you has a ditto in the bay donut becomes scared to set up and SD and that can take valuable pressure of your counters. Ditto is not a check like Hydra or Flygon, but I was a bit slow in reply to the thread and didn't really want to slap a Scarf on any ole offensive poke, instead using something that requires more skill as you said, it is harder to pull off. But the benefits of playing Ditto right vs Haxorus can turn the outcome of a game into your favor. I see were you're coming from though, an it is definitely a more risky check.

Yeah I'm not saying it can't act as a hax check, but it tend to be a harder one to use when you could throw on a scarfed faster dragon (inb4 noivern) and reliably beat hax. Ditto really prefers to be brought in after hax has set up as much as he wants to and kills something.

Definitely, Flygon and Hydra and kek Noivern are much safer bets, but Noivern and Hydra will be at -2, while Flygon is kind of hard pressed to wallbreak without a Choice Band. I initially thought of Scarf Noivern but he's very weak against anything not weak to his STABs, and Specs set or Taunt Roost generally have more overall use as a team. Also unoriginal af as Lochie and you posted Scarf Dragons right above me. But while it's a much riskier check, and doesn't win all the time, the same can be said for Hydreigon and Flygon, they also can't switch in on a Dragon move while I'm not sure if Ditto lives if you bring it in on a Poison Jan or Earthquake, but that's why they are checks, since the threat they are checking has some option to dispatch of them.

counter JUST KIDDING CHECK

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Whirlwind
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Protect

Protect Hippowdon is possibly the only safe defensive Switch-in to Dragon Dance in the entire tier (even Granbull can potentially be 2hkod by Poison Jab).

252+ Atk Life Orb Mold Breaker Haxorus Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hippowdon: 199-234 (47.3 - 55.7%) -- 18.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

If Haxorus Outrages on the switch, and does more than 51.5ish % of your health, you can just Protect up, reset the Outrage turn [fuck you mechanics =(], and proceed to slack off. If Haxorus Outrages on the switch and does less than 51.5% of your health, you can just spam slack off until he's confused and force him to switch out. Although Hippo lacks a way to do massive damage to Haxorus, Earthquake does a bit more than 40% on average. Finally, Whirlwind allows you to whisk away Haxorus if he sets up as you switch in, so that you can (hopefully) Slack Off the damage afterwards.

Of course, Hippo still loses to SD Haxorus, but that's the case for literally every defensive check or counter so you can't do much about it =(.

Wouldn't this make it a check in that instance then? Especially since the most Hippo can do is 3HKO with EQ or phaze it out while taking a big hit in the process. I'm not dismissing your set by any means cause it's pretty solid, but SD variants really give it a hard time, at least I'd like to imagine that makes it harder to list as an absolute counter. :[

the SD set is pretty much impossible to counter for as kitten milk stated. since you slashed poison jab with SD the only thing that can really beat it are fairy types who can take a + 1 hit which there aren't any [granbull is sometimes 2hko'd by poison jab on the switch with rocks up]. Dragon/ground coverage is pretty amazing with moldbreaker because this makes it so the steel type has to have a secondary typing that resists ground [only bug and grass are available]. this limits the steel counter to ferroseed/forretres/escav. forretress/ferroseed can take + 2 EQs but can't OHKO back.

Escavalier on the other hand can take those hits and ohko back.

I nominate Porygon2 as a check.

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Download
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Ice Beam/Foul Play
- Tri Attack
- Recover
- Thunder Wave/ Trick Room

I'm not quite sure that there is a solid counter to haxorus, specifically that double dance set because of mold breaker but porygon2 can be called a check due to its sheer bulk and download ability. Thunder wave would cripple the life orb set if it was found out beforehand that the haxorus does possess it. Trick room was slashed because porygon2 is a very viable trick roomer and makes it out-speed fast threats, scarfers and sets up for a trick room team. Foul Play is there because it beats high attacking mons, phychic and ghost types; while icebeam is there for coverage. Porygon2 will get a spa^ vs hax from download.

CALCS
+1 4 SpA Porygon2 Ice Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Haxorus: 272-320 (92.5 - 108.8%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

Carbink@Balloon
252 HP 252 SpA 4 Def Modest

~Power Gem

A completely useless set outside of countering Haxorus (but it has SR!) but honestly what Haxorus is going to be beating you, they never throw out a Poison Jab unless you have a Fairy and this Fairy takes more form Earthquake which is why you have a Balloon.

252+ SpA Carbink Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Haxorus: 254-300 (86.6 - 102.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Scarf ditto always outspeeds boosted sweepers because it copies the boost and has a scarf boost on top of that, theres no 50/50. What ditto cant outspeed everytime are other scarf users. Edit: nvm derp

Yeah that's a pretty high chance of killing, yeah it's obvious you intend it to be a check. Yeah Haxorus is likely to OHKO it with a +2 Poison Jab let alone any of its other moves at +1. Point is it's required, I need to stress this more

Check:
Ferroseed @ Eviolite

Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def

Ferroseed will not be 2OHKO from anything besides a +2 EQ can effectively Stall Haxorus with Protect/Leech seed or Boost along with its own Iron Defense.A Gyro ball/iron defense will be able to take care of the DD Set.

Calcs:

Granbull @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 84 Atk / 172 Def
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Heal Bell

Thanks to Fairy-typing + Intimidate, this is one of the best ways to deal with Haxorus. Although it has to rely on RestTalk for recovery, the ability to run Heal Bell means it has a good chance of sleeping for less than 2 turns while not burning through Heal Bell PP too quickly. It'd be nice to run Earthquake for the coverage and the hit on Fire-types, but everyone and their mother runs a bulky water, so it's manageable. Fits on balance, fits on stall, is kind of pink in a way if your vision is blurry, good pokemon. Spread is specifically to guarantee the Play Rough OHKO on Haxorus, because otherwise it could miraculously avoid it, although you're free to run less attack because usually, Haxrous will not be 100%.

252+ Atk Life Orb Mold Breaker Haxorus Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 172 Def Granbull: 281-333 (73.1 - 86.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Mold Breaker Haxorus Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 172 Def Granbull: 264-311 (68.7 - 80.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

84+ Atk Granbull Play Rough vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Haxorus: 294-348 (100 - 118.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
However if they see you coming (which is perfectly possible)
-1 252+ Atk Life Orb Mold Breaker Haxorus Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 172 Def Granbull: 190-224 (49.4 - 58.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

which suggests Granbull is a worse counter than my Carbink set. Carbink never almost has to face a Poison Jab to break the Balloon as it switches in because no Haxorus uses Poison Jab randomly like that except to hit Fairies and Haxorus rather use EQ because the Rock subtyping. Not to mention in my calc I gave a +2 Poison Jab to Haxorus which isn't even in the set really, Carbink still wins. My counter is better.

+1 252 Atk Life Orb Mold Breaker Haxorus Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Aggron: 179-213 (52 - 61.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Yeah, that's a pretty shaky "counter". Lum variants with SD can 2HKO you, are able to survive an Iron Head (and if Stealth Rock isn't present then even more so), able to consume the Berry as you use Thunder Wave, and finish you off afterward. Meanwhile LO DD variants can be paralyzed, you're still getting 2HKOed easily, while it can live the Iron Head (and hopefully not flinch) and finish your Aggron off. In which case you basically had to sack your Aggron entirely just to barely avert a Haxorus beatdown
