Coming back from a Chansey freeze is easier than coming back from a full-health Snorlax freeze. If Snorlax gets frozen you lose its ability to hit things normally AND you lose the boom. If Chansey gets frozen that sucks but you can usually blow up the things that it's supposed to wall with Exploders and/or press Zam/Starmie into service as ghetto Chanseys.
The only freezes worse than Snorlax freezes are Exeggutor freezes before Sleep Powder on teams without a backup sleeper. But those don't usually happen because Egg avoids taking Ice moves.

Bekins played well. One unnecessarily ballsy (borderline blunderous) play was going Skarm instead of Starmie to try to catch Explosion on turn 24, which kind of screwed him by leaving Skarm unable to take a Fire Blast later. Leaving sleeping Raikou on Egg after the crit could have ended pretty poorly too, but at that point it was going downhill and he needed to make a play to survive, what with both his main Exeggutor counters getting worn down fast.
MrE was a ballsy player too! Switching Gengar into Starmie and leaving Egg on Raikou after the SpDef were some risky, borderline irresponsible plays. However, they had upside, rather than merely being made to prolong the game.
Bekins' play at the end was more him needing to make great predicts to keep the game alive, rather than outright balls. If MrE doubles to Machamp on the para'd Miltank toward the end there, he instantly wins, hence why Bekins brings Skarm on the revealed Fire Blast Lax. Then, once E Curses instead, Bekins can't exactly go back to para'd Miltank, so he kind of has to Sand-Attack and pray.
Needing to make tough predicts like Bekins had to just to survive is why standard stall sucks, by the way.

I switched to Skarmory to catch Cloyster's Explosion because I had spikes on the ground; I thought he wanted to kill Starmie in the switch so that I would never be able to spin :/
With Raikou I had 33% chance of selecting Crunch and killing him either directly of with the spikes, and 33% chance to select Rest.

Starmie was, in this instance and most other ones because for some reason people seem to think Starmie is going to carry five other Machamp-susceptible mons, the only thing that stands in Machamp's way other than its own inaccuracy. Spikes are a mere convenience to me. That's also why I don't bother attempting to remove them: not worth the moveslot, not worth the pokémon slot, not worth giving up Explosion on Cloyster.
Ice Beam also covers the "absorb Explosion with 20% Raikou" option and can just outright freeze Starmie.
