Overview
########

Ambipom is a Normal-type with a powerful Fake Out and a great ability in Technician. Combine this with an excellent movepool and a great 115 Speed stat, and it's easy to see why Ambipom is one of the better offensive Normal-types in the tier. There are several downsides to Ambipom, however, including its inability to touch Rock- and Steel-types. Along with this, it also has less-than-average bulk, meaning it struggles to take most hits.

Life Orb
########
name: Life Orb
move 1: Fake Out
move 2: Knock Off / Pursuit
move 3: Return / Double Hit
move 4: U-Turn
ability: Technician
item: Life Orb
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly

Moves
========

Fake Out is used in the first slot as it is an extremely strong priority move that, when combined with Life Orb, allows Ambipom to finish off a weakened Pokemon with ease. Knock Off is a great Dark-type move that removes the opponents item and also hits Ghost-types which are unaffected by Ambipom's Normal STAB moves. Pursuit can be used in the second slot, however, to trap Pokemon that are intending to switch or are possibly locked into an inopportune move. Double Hit and Return are extremely strong STAB moves that punch holes in anything that doesn't resist them. Double Hit provides the ability to break Substitutes and Focus Sashes, while Return has perfect accuracy. Finally, U-turn is used to help gain momentum for your team while also hitting Psychic- and Grass-types for super effective damage.

Set Details
========

252 EVs are dumped into Attack and Speed to maximize each stat. 4 Special Defense is also used to give Porygon-Z an Attack boost from Download. Life Orb causes Ambipom to hit like a truck and allows U-turn to cause a great deal of damage while keeping up momentum. With a Jolly nature, Ambipom is able to outspeed other threats such as Mienshao and Galvantula.

Usage Tips
========

There are several things about Ambipom that should be noted when using it. Fake Out should be used only when you are sure your opponent will stay in, and not switch into a check or counter. If you are able to predict a switch into a counter, you can either use U-turn out to gain momentum or Knock Off to cripple the incoming Pokemon. Ambipom should not be switching into any incoming attacks, as it isn't the bulkiest of Pokemon. Ambipom also appreciates dual screen support to help increase its survivability. Double Hit should be used to break either Focus Sashes or Substitutes. Lastly, Steel-types should always be eliminated before Ambipom tries to attack, as they stop it in its tracks.

Team Options
========

There are many teammates that compliment Ambipom well, and vice versa. Ambipom likes Pokemon to deal with Fighting-types, making Florges and Cofagrigus good partners. Ambipom also appreciates as little residual damage as possible, meaning Rapid Spin or Defog users are good teammates. Crobat can provide Defog support while at the same time dealing with Fighting-types for Ambipom. Fire- and Ground-types such as Chandelure and Nidoking make good teammates to deal with the Steel-types that wall Ambipom. Dugtrio is not only a Ground-type, but it can also trap and remove Steel-types for Ambipom thanks to Arena Trap.

Other Options
########

Ambipom has a very large movepool that contains several other options, albeit usually less useful. It has access to Baton Pass as well as a multitude of stat-boosting moves such as Agility, Nasty Plot, and Hone Claws. Fire Punch can be used for hitting opponents such as Forretress, and Low Kick can be used on Steel-types that would otherwise wall Ambipom entirely such as Mega Aggron and Lucario. Low Kick can also be used for opponents such as Scrafty which otherwise beat Ambipom one-on-one. Several other attacks that can be used include Ice Punch, Brick Break, Gunk Shot, Shadow Claw, Bounce, Iron Tail, Payback, and Low Sweep. Power-Up Punch is another Fighting-type move that can be used to raise Attack, and is also boosted by Technician. A gimmicky set of Fake Out and Last Resort can be used to have a physical 140 Base Power STAB move to hit things extremely hard. Ambipom has a large utility movepool including moves such as Rain Dance, Taunt, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Sunny Day, and Switcheroo. A Normal Gem set can be run in tandem with Fake Out for a strong priority move. An Adamant nature can also be used for a more power.

Checks & Counters
########

**Steel-types**: Physically defensive Steel-types such as Mega Aggron have no trouble walling Ambipom and KOing it with relative ease.

**Sableye**: With Prankster Will-O-Wisp, Sableye can burn Ambipom and halve its Attack for the rest of the match. Sableye also takes no damage from Ambipom's STAB moves, and it can stall it out with Recover.

**Intimidate**: Intimidate users such as Krookodile and Arcanine lower Ambipom's Attack as well as its usefulness.

**Priority Users**: Priority such as Extreme Speed and Sucker Punch hurt due to Ambipom's poor physical bulk. Fighting-type priority such as Mach Punch and Vacuum Wave from the likes of Infernape and Lucario especially hurt.

**Choice Scarf Users**: Most Choice Scarf users such as Darmanitan and Mienshao can outspeed Ambipom and beat it easily.

**Rock-types**: Rock-types such as Ryhperior and Mega Aerodactyl do not take much damage from any of Ambipom's attacks and can OHKO back.

Oboy, I love Ambipom so (although this is still WIP) I'm gonna bore you with a few of my thoughts :)
-Pursuit might be worth a slash with Knock Off, Ambipom forces a lot of switches against offensive teams and Pursuit really capitalizes on that. If Fake Out puts something in KO range of Double Hit/Return, opponents are put in a tight situation: stay in and get smashed by Ambipom's STAB attack, or switch out and give switch initiative with U-turn/get smashed by Pursuit. It also makes Ambipom a much better revenge killer, since he can completely checkmate weakened slower opponents.
-I honestly don't know if Adamant nature should even be a slash; giving up all that speed (Adamant only speed ties with positive natured base 100s) isn't really worth the power imo because that lets a lot more threats force you out because Ambipom really shouldn't be taking any hits. Moreover, Ambipom is more of a supporting attacker and not really supposed to nuke stuff himself, so I generally prefer being able to reliably U-turn/use Double Hit against a lot more opponents, rather than some extra damage against the remaining foes you can actually attack :)
-Minor nitpicks, but you might wanna put the leftover EVs in SpD to give Porygon-Z the wrong Download boost. (and fix the obvious oversight). Also, you might wanna mention the differences between Double Hit and Return (bypassing sash/substitute vs. perfect accuracy, obviously)
-A Baton pass set might be worth adding, Ambipom is the only Pokemon that can Baton pass both Nasty plot and Agility. Should be something like Timid, max HP/Spe, moves Baton Pass/NP/Agility/Swift. I haven't tested it, however, and I can very well imagine it's gonna die way too easily. Would be sweet to pass one of those boosts to Nidoking though.
Anyway, I don't have any seniority/authority whatsoever so you can see for yourself if you wanna use any of this :) Hope I helped!

Hey The Dutch Plumberjack , thanks for your input! I will add pursuit for sure, and fix up the evs. The baton pass set...no. Sorry, but, the bulk just isnt there. It would never be able to pull it off. Thanks a bunch though!

Normal Gem Ambipom genuinely sucks. The main issue it faces is that it is a wasted item slot for a move that really isn't worth it on it - Acrobatics. And then you don't even give it the main slash. The set really isn't worth it outside of OO as it is a poor gimmick.

When mentioning Return and Double Hit, make sure to mention that Return has 5 more base power and 100% accuracy, but doesn't hit through subs. Elaborate on the reasons for using each individual move.

Return has less base power than Double Hit actually (102 vs. 105, factoring in Technician).

As for the Normal Gem set, I think its main problem is that it looks just outclassed; as a flinch-and-flee set it is completely outclassed by the Life Orb set because that one has more power, and as a revenge killer/cleaner it appears to be outclassed by an awful lot of other revenge killer/cleaners. I know you know a lot more about that set than I do, but you're gonna have to use some really strong arguments as to why one should use it. I get that it has good coverage, but I don't see why I should use that set when e.g. Infernape exists, who can run very similar sets with even better coverage and a lot more power. I'd say, convince me :)

i think you should mention, in usage tips, the careful use of fake out; only use fake out if you predict the foe is staying in, because a poor timed fake out will give a free switch-in for stuff that resist it, like metagross, aero, lucario, etc. if a switch is predicted, you should use u-turn to retain momentum or knock off the switch-in to cripple it (or trap the switching poke in the case of pursuit)

Mention adamant for a hit and run type ambipom, remove the mention of a special set in OO entirely, mention fire punch in OO (forretress), add intimidate users to checks and counters (arcanine etc.), mention dugtrio for partners, fighting types for C and C is rather broad as unless infernape is life orb and has mach punch it is going to die to a fake out + double hit or even just a double hit after rocks / lucario dies to fake out + low kick or just low kick and ambipom will live one vacuum wave or e-speed/ scrafty dies to fake out and low kick unless really bulky. I would remove fighting types from checks and change it to users with priority and most importantly fighting priority.

Coming out of the 4th Generation and being the evolution of Aipom, Ambipom is currently the coolest monkey in the whole metagame (fluff, and Infernape says hi. Put a good leading sentence here, like "Ambipom is a great ___ that can function as a ___"). It has access to the great ability,(AC) Technician, and the proper moves to utilize it well. It has great Speed and Attack, being one of the better attacking offensive Normal types in the tier. It can outspeed most of the tier with its premier 115 Speed stat, and with STAB, it has an extremely strong and valuable Fake Out, which takes advantage of Technician. Some common mistakes you made include not putting a hyphen between thing such as "Rock-type", using like to list things instead of such as (...like Scrafty instead of ...such as Scrafty), as well as using pronouns when the subject hadn't been defined. You also tended to repeat things, especially in the Overview/Usage Tips. Good work overall though :]

However LightningLuxray the use of "like" isn't outlawed. They're both usable in different situations; "like" is often used when referring to the fact that there's a multitude of subjects, not just limited to the ones following it. Means "similar to these", whereas "such as" is more a direct example.

2/2

I would've done this earlier, but you tagged me yesterday just as I was getting to bed and I worked all day today! No harm done though, and nearly perfect check LightningLuxray
