Mamoswine (QC 2/3) (Will write up soon, busy with work)

Overview
########

Pros
  • look at dat dem coverage. Only resisted by some Rotom formes. Not only that but it hits tons of threats in the metagame for super effective damage.
  • 110 HP and 130 Atk is nothing to mess around with.
  • Nice ability (Thick Fat).
  • Mamoswine can deal with buttloads of common threats in the meta, such as Thundurus, Garchomp, Heatran, Shaymin-S and Lando-T.
  • Because of typing, he's a big fuck you to BoltBeam users like Thundurus and Mega Manectric. (But beware that you don't kill Manectric with -1 EQ + Ice Shard (Unless LO) and he can Overheat you.)
  • If Mamoswine can't hit a mon for super-effective damage there's a very high chance that he'll get boned.
Cons
  • It has mediocre bulk because of its high HP offsetting its low defensive stats.
  • Mediocre speed.
  • Awkard mon; If you go bulky you're slow, if you go fast you're frail.
  • Common weaknesses in Fighting, Grass and Water.
  • Intimidate and burns :( (Except for Salamence and Landorus-T lol)

All-Out Attacker
########
name: All-Out Attacker
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Ice Shard
move 3: Icicle Crash / Superpower / Icicle Spear
move 4: Protect
ability: Thick Fat
item: Life Orb / Focus Sash
evs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
nature: Adamant / Jolly

Moves
========

  • Earthquake is a powerful STAB spread move, obligatory on any Mamoswine sets. With an Ice move it gets almost perfect coverage (fukn Surskit and Bronzong)
  • Ice Shard is used because Mamoswine has mediocre speed, at -1 it does 70%~ to 4/0 Lando-T, which is pretty decent. It can pick off most weakned threats, that makes him a reliable check to Skymin, but it can't switch in into it.
  • Icicle Crash is less powerful than Spear, but it is more reliable and has a nice flinch chance, makes Mamoswine a more reliable answer to Amoonguss and on average it does more damage than Spear.
  • Protect is there to disrupt offensive strategies, stall out Trick Room/Sun/Rain or w/e and all that good stuff that Protect does.
  • Superpower can be used over Icicle Crash if you're willing to give up a strong Ice STAB move and have just Ice Shard. It also hits Ferrothorn, Mega Kanga and Scrafty hard and the Rotom formes for decent neutral damage.

Set Details
========

  • The EVs are simple, 252 Atk with Adamant for imediate power, 176 Spe to outspeed neutral natured base 70s like Breloom and Bisharp, the rest is dumped into HP.
  • Life Orb can be used for imediate power at the cost of survivability. Sash is for survivability, Mamoswine has mediocre bulk so a Sash helps a lot vs things that can outspeed and OHKO it, like Terrakion.
  • Jolly can be used over Adamant to reliably outspeed Breelom and Bisharp.
  • Life Orb is really awesome because you always get the KO on chomp, 2HKO MegaManectric with -1 EQ + Ice Shard and Adamant OHKOes Mence 50% of the time.

Usage Tips
========
  • Beware of random coverage moves such as Landorus-T's Superpower.
  • Don't switch Mamoswine in on attacks because of its frailer defenses.
  • But Mamoswine is not Breloom frail, it can still take some hits and kill his attackers. A good example is vs Lando-T, as he (Mamoswine) can take a Rock Slide and KO with Ice Shard.
  • Mamoswine doesn't mind eating up some spread-reduced moves or non-super effective attacks. (He can take a Heat Wave from Zard-Y in SUN :O)
  • Rock Slide works great on the Sash set as a last resort answer to Mega Charizard Y, Talonflame, and Volcarona.
  • The Life Orb set needs much more support such as Speed Control and redirectors to be as effective.
  • Focus Sash makes Mamoswine a great late-game cleaner and allows it to be a reliable answer to threats that manage to set up against its team.

Team Options
========

  • Charizard-Y is a great partner, Mamoswine can kill most of its checks, like Lando-T and Heatran. Mamoswine hates bulky waters, so anything that can take those down is good, some exmaples are Shaymin-S and Thundurus, both allow you to spam EQ too. Aegislash can spam Wide Guard, kill Terrakion, heavily dent Cress and Rotom-W, deal with Fairies and Trick Room, but he doesn't allow Mamoswine to spam EQ as much.
  • Amoonguss resists all of Mamoswine's weaknesses except for Ice and Fire, therefore he can redirect most hits to himself and also put stuff to sleep. While Togekiss can also redirect attacks, it doesnt resist so many things but it can setup Tailwind and allows Mamoswine to spam EQ, the choice depends on what you need more. Hitmontop can spam Wide Guard and protect Mamoswine from Heat Wave's and Rock Slides and use Fake Out and Helping Hand.
  • Mamoswine loves all kinds of Speed Control, TWave from Thundurus or Tailwind from Talon, doesn't matter, Mamoswine loves it.
  • Fake Out, stun a faster mon to take down a slower opponent.
  • Due to Mamoswine's speed, he won't be able to outspeed and kill many things, so an offensive partner that's either very fast or has strong priority is welcome. Talonflame, Latios and Deoxys-A are all good examples.

Choice Scarf
########
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Icicle Crash / Icicle Spear
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Superpower
ability: Thick Fat
item: Choice Scarf
evs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe
nature: Jolly / Adamant

Moves
========

  • Earthquake is an awesome STAB move, it even gets spread. It's used for killing things.
  • Icile Crash is used for Grass, Flying and Dragon-types, also easier to spam than EQ (
Not blocked by Wide Guard, stronger, has better coverage and the flinch chance is just evil sometimes)
  • Icicle Spear can be used over Crash, It breaks Focus Sashes and Berries, but it is unreliable and Icicle Crash has a nice flinch chance.
  • Rock Slide is mostly for CharY and Talonflame. But it's used vs Ice types too. Also used to kill stuff when both mons on the opposite field are weakened to a kill range and EQ wont hit both of them. Stone Edge can be used over Rock Slide, but you lose the aforementioned ability in trade of imediate power and a higher chance of missing.
  • Superpower is used for Tyranitar, Kanga and stuff that wont get killed by Mamoswines's other moves, avoid using this move a lot because it lowers your defense and attack, which is not nice :[ You can always use Icicle Spear instead of this move if you can deal with those Pokemons well.

Set Details
========

  • The EVs are simple, 252 Attack is for maximum power, 244+ Spe outspeeds neutral nature Deo-A, Timid Mega Manectric and max Spe Adamant ScarfLando. The rest is dumped into HP.
  • Adamant is really legit, while you don't do the above, you can almost OHKO Kangaskhan and outspeed everything relevant up to max speed Shaymin-S.
  • Scarf is used on Mamoswine becuase it covers its middling speed
Usage Tips
========
  • Be cautious when locking yourself into a move that many opposing pokemon are weak/immune to.
  • Best as a lategame cleaner when all of the Intimidating Pokemon are gone.
  • Avoid switching into attacks unless it is an obvious resist/immunity/protect.
  • Watch out for opportunities for killing both of your opponent's mons with EQ/Rock Slide.

Team Options
========

  • Stuff that threatens Intimidate users like Mega-Gardevoir, Rotom-W and Tornadus are all good partners.
  • Charizard-Y (Heatran, Lando-T, Terrakion) Talonflame (Heatran, Lando-T, Tyranitar) and Shaymin-S (Latios, Thundurus,) all appreciate Mamoswine's ability to swiftly kill some of their checks and counters.
  • Anti-Trick Room Pokes (Bisharp, Mega Gengar, Aegislash)

Other Options
########

  • Knock Off can be used in Scarf sets instead of Superpower to deal with Ghost and Psychc types, while also crippling Choice and AV users.
  • Stone Edge can be used for more imediate power, but Rock Slide is spread and doesn't miss as much.
  • Stealth Rocks can be used to hurt stuff like Talonflame, Charizard-Y and Kyurem-B, but battles in Doubles are super short and most of the time it is not worth it setting them up.
  • Icicle Spear can be used over crash to break through Sashes and Subs, but there aren't many sub users that re weak to Ice and Icicle Crash is more reliable.
  • AV Mamoswine is really legit. (252 SpA Charizard Heat Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Thick Fat Mamoswine in Sun: 206-246 (57 - 68.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO fucking bulky) It also has extra coverage that All Out Attacker doesn't have (Rock Slide and Superpower)

Checks & Counters
########

**Utility Moves**: Hitmontop and Aegislash can spam Wide Guard to stop EQ, not really care about any other attack and OHKO Mamoswine with their STABs. The uncommon Stealth Rocks and Fake Out can cripple Mamoswine's Sash set by removing its Sash thus not allowing Mamoswine to safey kill things that outspeed him.

**Intimidate and Burns**: Hitmontop and Scrafty can come in on any move and deal heavy damage with their STABs, not only that but give Mamoswine an attack drop. Rotom-H can come in on everything and burn Mamoswine, making him offensively useless.

**Offensive Typing Advantage**: Bulky waters like Suicune and Rotom-W can come in on any moves and deal tons of damage with their Water STABs. Fighting types such as Breelom, Terrakion, Conk and others can deal heavy damage with their STABs. Levitaters and flying types that don't mind Ice attacks are great checks, like Talonflame and Charizard-Y. Almost all pokemon that can outspeed or tank a hit from Mamoswine make a good check, like Scizor with Bullet Punch or Keldeo with his STABs. Mamoswine gets threatened by by buttloads of priority users. Azumarill can threaten it with Aqua Jet, Scizor has Bullet Punch, and Breloom and Conkeldurr have Mach Punch, all of which either OHKO or 2HKO Mamoswine, without he being able to do the same.

**Speed Control**: Mamoswine's Scarf set is ruined by Trick Room and Tailwind, as it relies on speed to kill things. So watch out for common Trick Room users like Cresselia and Aromatisse.

Not QC so you can (should?) probably ignore me. Anyway, the scarf Set should go first imo, and also Jolly + 216 Spe EVs outruns Adamant ScarfLando w/ 212 and can OHKO with Icicle Spear (assuming 3 hits) at -1. Scarf Mamo really is the best all around Genie check right now, so that should be mentioned. It also handles several other solid threats in the metagame such as Garchomp, heatran, venusaur (only outside the sun), and that could be mentioned as well. Another thing, Stone Edge should probably be slashed instead of in OO.

These sets are not ordered by effectiveness, so I don't see a point in choosing which one comes first.

they are ordered by effectiveness, and I still think sash with ice shard is better :p
they are? I never knew about that, changing it.

EDIT: Did some more tweaking and this is now ready for QC :D

some things:
  • go with a full on offensive spread for the nonchoice set. i dont like the idea of trying to outspeed a set that's meant to outspeed a legit benchmark. that's just gonna lead to speed creep. either go with 4/252/252 or just ev to outspeed base 70s.
  • add a mention of wide guard with examples of hitmontop and aegislash under the utility tag to checks + counters since it can use wide guard for earthquake and takes all its other moves
  • add stealth rock to OO (dont oversell em though)
  • also add superpower to OO
  • Mamoswine loses to Venusaur, no? Not sure why it's said to beat Venusaur in the analysis. Venu in sun would outspeed and can take ice shards, while Mega Venusaur doesn't mind Ice type hits anyways.
all i can think of for now

Small nitpick, but if you're seriously mentioning Surskit, Cryogonal is gonna feel left out.

Mamo can wins outside the sun, though non-mega venusaur should only ever be out in the sun so I guess that's a moot point, but I did think it was worth at least a mention.

252+ SpA Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Mamoswine: 338-402 (93.3 - 111%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

252 Atk Mamoswine Icicle Spear (3 hits) vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 294-348 (92.7 - 109.7%) -- approx. 50% chance to OHKO

Ok I did mention Venusaur in the **Offensive Typing Advantage** --'
edit: Also adding Mega Venu to offensive type advantage tab.

EDIT: All the changes have been implemented.

Overview:
  • Add to the first bullet that it hits a lot of the metagame super effectively as well.
  • Mention one of two good Ice Shard users.
  • Typing covers boltbeam threats such as Thundurus and Mega Manectric.
  • Common weaknesses in Fighting, Grass, and Water
Switch the sets around because the all-out attacker is easier to use and more effective.

Set #1 (All Out Attacker)
  • name it All-Out attacker
  • don't slash Superpower behind Ice Shard. It should be 100% mandatory.
  • take out Icicle Spear as Crash is (on average) more powerful. There isn't many sub users that are Ice-weak, and two ice stab slashes makes the set look cluttered. you can mention it in OO tho.
  • slash Jolly also so it can reliably outspeed Jolly Breloom and Bisharp as well
Moves:
  • Mention that Ice Shard allows Mamoswine to pick off most weakened threats and that it makes mamoswine one of the most reliable answers to Shaymin-S, a notable threat.
  • Icicle Crash lets Mamo be a much more reliable answer to Amoonguss
  • Superpower hits Ferrothorn, Mega Kanga, and Scrafty hard and the Rotom formes for decent neutral damage.
Set Comments:
  • Rock Slide works great on the Sash set as a last resort answer to Mega Charizard Y, Talonflame, and Volcarona.
Usage Tips:
  • The Life Orb set needs much more support such as Speed Control and redirectors to be as effective.
  • Focus Sash makes Mamoswine a great lategame cleaner and allows it to be a reliable answer to threats that manage to set up against its team.
  • Rephrase the second bullet into "don't switch Mamoswine in on attacks because of its frailer defenses." It's gonna have to tank an attack eventually because it is slower than a lot of stuff it wants to check.
  • No need to mention Landorus-T so much as Mamoswine beats it with residual damage. Just say something like "beware of random super effective coverage from threats such as Landorus-T's superpower"
Team Options:
  • Togekiss can also redirect attacks that threaten Mamoswine AND Mamo can spam EQ with it as a partner.
  • Mamo doesnt need help beating Ice and Rock types (in your Hitmontop mention)
Set #2 (Scarf)
  • Again, take out both Icicle Spears as Crash is way more reliable
Moves:
  • No need for why this set doesn't have Ice Shard
Set Details:
  • Mention that Scarf covers its middling speed
Usage Tips:
  • Rephrase the last bullet into "Be cautious when locking yourself into a move that many opposing pokemon are weak/immune to"
  • Best as a lategame cleaner when all of the Intimidating Pokemon are gone.

  • Anti-Trick Room Pokes (Taunt Gyarados, Bisharp, Mega Gengar, Spore Breloom)
  • Be Specific on what Mamo kills for ZardY, talonflame, and skymin
  • No need for Redirectors imo. Mamo is by no means a sweeper who needs free turns.
Other Options:
  • Play Rough hits Hitmontop and Scrafty hard which are annoying switchins.
Checks & Counters:
  • Fake Out and Rocks can break Sash which is annoying as hell
  • Trick Room and Tailwind teams wreck the scarf set.
  • Mach Punch and Aqua Jet wreck the scarf set.
  • Shaymin-S only counters the Scarf set when it is locked in a non-ice move (cause the other set always runs ice shard) to specific to be in the tab imo.
  • Rotom-H > Rotom-W as a Burning mon. Rotom-H belongs in Offensive typing advantages because it can just KO with Hydro Pump. also add more burn mons and separate burns and intimidate users into two sentences (no need to cram them into one mess)
  • dealing 40% to scrafty is hardly an impressive feat. Remove imo.
  • Be more generic in you offensive typing advantages tab. Bulky water types such as so and so, offensive fighting types such as blablabla, etc. instead of just listing a ton of random Pokemon

All done lolk, except for the "Mention one of two good Ice Shard users.", because Weavile is the only other Ice Shard user and I don't really think that he deserves a mention.

Ice Shard is still Mamo's biggest niche as a Ground-type, so if you could fit a mention in the overview (in a better way than I did) that'd be great. Also SR and Fake Out can go in Utility Moves.

Hello

OVERVIEW

  • "Being a Ground type with access to Ice priority allows him to deal with some Pokemon that would be very troublesome for other Ground types, like Shaymin-S."
-I know what you're trying to say, but don't say it like that. The fact that it is a Ground-type that can counter Ground-type checks is only relevant if you're running Mono Ground. Instead, point out that because of its Ice typing, it can provide for its team the benefits of having a Ground-type (beats Fire, Steel, Rock, spread power) WITHOUT the weaknesses of having a Ground-type (weakness to Grass and Flying.) That and obviously Ice is a superb offensive type.
  • "Because of typing, he's a big fuck you to BoltBeam users like Thundurus and Mega Manectric."
-Just be careful because Overheat Mega Manectric will kill you before you kill it unless you have LO. Overheat 2HKOs while -1 EQ + Ice Shard doesn't KO and Mega M is faster.

-Add to cons a susceptibility to Intimidate outside of Mence and Lando-T.

A-AA SET
Moves
  • "Ice Shard is used because Mamoswine has mediocre speed, at -1 it does 70%~ to 4/0 Lando-T, which is pretty decent. It can pick off most weakned threats, that makes him one of the most reliable answers to Shaymin-S."
-Mamoswine is not a reliable answer to Shaymin-S. However, it is a very good check, but it can't switch in more than twice.

Set Details
- Life Orb is really great, landing you some important KOs. You OHKO Garchomp all the time with LO as opposed to never without, and you 2HKO Mega Manectric with EQ+Ice Shard. Adamant LO OHKOs Salamence about 50% of the time with Ice Shard, and Jolly LO can OHKO after some prior damage (LO recoil, sand / hail damage). Be sure to mention all of this.

Usage Tips
  • "Don't switch Mamoswine in on attacks because of its frailer defenses.
  • But Mamoswine is not Breloom frail, it can still take some hits and kill his attackers. A good example is vs Lando-T, as he (Mamoswine) can take a Rock Slide and KO with Ice Shard."
- Yes Mamo gets worn down quickly but it doesn't mind shrugging off a few spread reduced moves or non-super effective attacks. It can even survive ZardY's Heat Wave in the Sun!

Team Options
- You really need more stuff here. Add:
  • Speed support. Tailwind from ZardY, Suicune, Shaymin-S, TFlame. Thunder Wave from Rotom-H/W and Thundurus.
  • Fake Out. Stun a faster thing to take down a slower opponent.
  • Sideline offense. Pair it with other faster things that can take on other faster threats. Deo-A, Latios, Terrakion.
CHOICE SCARF
Moves
- tbh I find that Icicle Crash is easier to spam than EQ. It's more powerful, has better coverage, is not blocked by WG, and can flinch, too! You don't have to change the order but make sure to mention this

Set Details
- Add Adamant. More power, you still outspeed everything relevant (up to max speed Shaymin-S), plus you can almost OHKO MKang with Superpower! Jolly is really only necessary for max Speed Deo-A, MGengar, MAerodactyl, and MManectric, which won't stay in if they know you're Scarf anyway.

OTHER OPTIONS
- AV Mamo is really legit. It's bulky enough to survive super effective hits even without any bulk investment, such as from Rotom-W, Ludicolo, Venusaur, or MZard Y.

  • Remove mention of checking Venusaur in overview. It loses to megasaur which is used fairly often
  • "The Ice typing + Ground typing allows Mamoswine to have the benefits of a Ground-type (Killing Steel/Rock/Fire types) without the weaknesses of a Ground-typing (Grass, Flying). And Ice is a super nice offensive type." <-- this is redundant as you already said something similar with the good coverage point
  • "176 Spe to outspeed neutral natured base 70s" <--- with statements like these it's important to give examples
  • "An offensive partner that can kill faster things is nice. Talonflame, Latios and Deoxys-A are all good examples." <--- reword or something, i think you mean something to the effect of fast and strong pokemon are a problem for mamoswine, but that's not what you're saying.
  • "Make sure to look on what things Mamoswine hits hard in common, so you can keep spamming the move that hits all of that stuff hard.
Don't be afraid to use Superpower when Mamoswine is pretty much dead." <--- remove these points.
  • In general expand on the Usage Tips for Scarf a little
  • Remove Roar + Stone Edge from OO
  • "Taunt Gyarados, Bisharp, Mega Gengar, Spore Breloom, Aegislash" <- nah, dont see taunt gyara used much and breloom is a shakier check, so id remove those.
  • **Speed Control**: Mamoswine's Scarf set is ruined by Trick Room and Tailwind, as it relies on speed to kill things. <-- list examples of trick room users to watch out for or something.
  • If you're going to mention Icicle Spear in Scarf description, you should probably slash it behind Icicle Crash
Do all this and ill stamp you Roxer123 :)

  • Remove mention of checking Venusaur in overview. It loses to megasaur which is used fairly often

doing it right now m8

EDIT:
In general expand on the Usage Tips for Scarf a little: The Superpower and hitting hard in common usage tips hwere there mainly for that lmao
Remove Roar + Stone Edge from OO: Stone Edge is actually legit as it can counter Wide Guard and is stronger than Rock Slide (Even though it isn't spread and doesn't have flinch chane and misses pretty often; Exactly why it isn't slashed)
EDIT2: nvm got it
EDIT3: How the fuck am I supposed to expand the Choice Scarf usage tips, it p much resumes to what I said and I can't think of anything else, if you have anything pls tell me.

aside from some minor nitpicks this looks pretty good.

on the main set I would put spear in-front of superpower because spear is really good, I would also switch the order of items, I think focus sash is always the best item on Mamoswine outside of extremely rare cases

QC Approved 2/3
