Albacore
sludge bomb is better than sludge wave
Overview
########
- Good bulk
- Typing that enables it to counter threats such as XZard and Talonflame
- Acceptable offensive stats for a purely defensive Pokemon
- Poor movepool
- Weakenesses to common types (Ground, Water, Steel)
- Suffers huge competition from other Rock types, particularly Rhyperior
Trick Room Lead (putting this first b/c this is IMO the least outclassed of the two)
########
name: Trick Room Lead
move 1: Trick Room
move 2: Stealth Rock
move 3: Explosion
move 4: Diamond Storm
ability: Clear Body
item: Mental Herb
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
nature: Relaxed
IVs: 0 Spe
Moves
========
-Trick Room is Trick Room
-SR is basically the reason to use this over any other TR setter, turns Diancie into a good lead
-Explosion does lots of damage, keeps momentum going and gets something in freely.
-Diamond Storm hits Talon and is a good offensive move in general
-Light Screen/Reflect can be used over Diamond Storm if you don't need it
Set Details
========
- 252 HP is to give it a lot of overall bulk
- 252 Defense is given to live powerful super-effective hits from the likes of Band Azumarill and Mega-Scizor
- Relaxed nature and 0 speed IVs b/c this is TR
- 252 SpD with a Sassy nature can be used to guarantee to survive Specs Kedleo's Scald more easily as well as Landorus's Earth Power but is generally less useful than the physically defensive variant
- 252 Atk with a Brave nature can be used for a powerful Explosion/Diamond Storm, however misses out on bulk, which means it sets up TR less reliably, and you still KO what you need to without.
- Mental Herb stops it from being Taunt bait
- Focus Sash is usable if you have no swicthins to Steel moves that OHKO Diancie. It should only be used in conjunction with 252 Atk and a Brave nature
- Sitrus Berry can give you extra health to set up Screens and TR
Usage Tips
========
- Use this as a lead
- Set up rocks then TR then explode
- Diamond Storm is almost never actually used on this set, but you may want to KO something without exploding
- Save this if you see Talon or Pinsir in team preview.
Team Options
========
- To be used on TR, specifically, Talonflame-weak TR
- Make sure you have stuff that switches into Steel attacks
- Good paired up with TR sweepers/setters that don't care much about Steel-types such as Slowbro, Victini
- MHeracross is good partner since it can function as a TR sweeper and resists grass+ground (and beats most steels)
Defensive
########
name: Defensive
move 1: Diamond Storm
move 2: Stealth Rock
move 3: Moonblast
move 4: Toxic
ability: Clear Body
item: Leftovers
evs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
nature: Relaxed
Moves
========
- Diamond Storm is powerful STAB with a great secondary effect, hits Talon XZard and Pinsir enabling you to counter them.
- Stealth Rock is great utility in general
- Moonblast is a decent secondary STAB, hitting Fighting types like Terrakion and Heracross as well as Dragon types like Latios
- Toxic is bascially filler to wear down opponents
- Rest can be used with Heal Bell support
- HP Ground lures Heatran and HP Fire lures Scizor but they really aren't worth it, especially HP Ground which does nothing to Heatran regardless
Set Details
========
- Leftovers is self-explanatory
- Maxed phys def to counter Talonflame, Charizard, Pinsir, Dragonite and other flying and dragon types consistently
- Relaxed so as to not reduce bulk or the power of either Diamond Storm or Moonblast
Usage Tips
========
- Switch it in on what it counters
- You can use it as a lead to set up rocks early game
Team Options
========
- Needs Wish support to function properly
- Can work as glue on Stall teams that need an XZard+Talon+Pinsir+Lati+Jolly MHera counter as well as a SR setter
- Needs to be paired with a Pokemon that deal with steel types such as Skarmory or Keldeo
- Ferrothorn is a particularly good partner since it resists all of Diancie's weakenesses bar ground, and Ferrothorn generally does very well against ground types regardless.
Other Options
########
- CM RestTalk
- SpD set to check Kyurem-B
- Screens set which is outclassed by Azelf
Checks & Counters
########
**Steel types**: Every single one of them. Excadrill walks all over Diancie, resisting its common moves, OHKOing it with Iron Head, even spinning its Stealth Rocks away. MScizor uses it as setup fodder, Heatran, Ferrothorn, Bisharp, all laugh at it.
**Water Types**: While they are somwhat crippled by Toxic, Water like Azumarill, Keldeo types can switch in on Diancie with relative ease and threaten a 2HKO on them.
*Bulky setup sweepers**: Diancie is very passive and has no access to phazing, and therefore, bulky setup sweepers which aren't stopped by Toxic such as Manaphy, Suicune, and Clefable can use it as setup fodder
