8-BIT Luster

Completely Unviable
Mega Blastoise is a powerful check to Mega Houndoom.

Blastoise @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 240 SpA / 20 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aura Sphere
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Dark Pulse
[calcs=hide]
+2 252+ SpA Mega Houndoom Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 20 SpD Mega Blastoise: 198-234 (54.8 - 64.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ SpA Mega Houndoom Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 20 SpD Mega Blastoise: 181-213 (50.1 - 59%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ SpA Mega Houndoom Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 20 SpD Mega Blastoise: 264-312 (73.1 - 86.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0- Atk Mega Houndoom Flame Charge vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Blastoise: 19-23 (5.2 - 6.3%) -- possibly the worst move ever lol Flame Charge

240+ SpA Mega Blastoise Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Houndoom: 320-378 (109.9 - 129.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
[/hide]
Mega Blastoise provides great utility for the team as well, still functioning as an effective rapid Spinner. Aura SPhere also OHKOs Houndoom, but isn't necessary. He's EV'd to come as close as possible to getting OHKO'ed after rocks (but not actually getting OHKOed because that's how I EV things.)

Yep that's it.

Reserving Mega Ampharos as based sheep check

Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 192 HP / 252 SpA / 64 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch
- Dragon Pulse

Basically based sheep lord checks like everything without SE stab (and some with). Houndoom is no exception, as its hardest hitting move (+2 dark pulse) doesn't even come close to KOing.

+2 252 SpA Houndoom Dark Pulse vs. 192 HP / 0 SpD Mega Ampharos: 214-253 (57.9 - 68.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Sheep can then a: straight kill it with Focus Blast or Thunderbolt after rocks

252+ SpA Mold Breaker Mega Ampharos Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Houndoom: 410-484 (140.8 - 166.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Mold Breaker Mega Ampharos Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Houndoom: 231-273 (79.3 - 93.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

or b: volt into fast thing to kill it/preserve momentum as he switches out

252+ SpA Mold Breaker Mega Ampharos Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Houndoom: 180-213 (61.8 - 73.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

The given EVs are to outspeed 4- Swampert (or any other base 60 that runs 4-, I guess) while still hitting hard and being balky.

I am hesitant to label this a counter because sheep can be shorn down (hahaha) and Focus Blast does have shaky accuracy.

SpD Empoleon as check

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Evs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 SpA
Calm nature
-Scald
-Stealth Rock / Defog
-Defog / Toxic
-Roar / Ice Beam

SpD Empoleon is a very sturdy specially defensive mon capable of switching into many top special threats. Houndoom is no exception in Empoleon's case.

+2 252 SpA Mega Houndoom Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon: 271-319 (72.8 - 85.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after 1 layer of Spikes and Leftovers recovery
4 SpA Torrent Empoleon Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Houndoom: 308-366 (105.8 - 125.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
4 SpA Empoleon Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Houndoom: 206-246 (70.7 - 84.5%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

As you can see here, Empoleon either comes in as Houndoom Nasty Plots or Fire Blasts, proceeds to live and fire off a torrent boosted scald, guaranteeing a one hit ko. However, if the Houndoom player is feeling frisky he can NP again in Empoleon's face and have a chance to live and sweep. In addition, if Empoleon has taken prior damage then Houndoom can break through.

For these reasons, I nominate Empoleon as a check to NP MegaDoom.

Well the best Counter in my opinion has to be

Yes Shedinja.

Shedinja@ Life Orb
Magic Guard
252 HP/ 252 Sp Def/ 4 Def
-Sandstorm
-Double Edge
-Harden
-Rest

See any ass hat can think of a pokemon that can "resist" Houndoom's moves but what does "resist" really even mean? So that's where Shedinja comes in with its whopping 1 HP its indestructible. I picked this move set to really show off Shedinja's flexible move pool. I know what you guys are thinking Shedinja is taunt bait and that's where you go wrong. Shedinja was fortunate enough to get Double Edge defiantly the best move for it. Since Shedinja will probably cause Houndoom to switch out it can either Sandstorm(Weather Power), Harden(Those defenses are crucial in this day and age), and last Rest (Everyone needs some extra Hp here and there). Here you have it everything is laid out for you. Now all you need to do is decide

Just relax...I might be slow on the uptake but I'm not gonna let my projects go down the drain, even if they do seem to be losing momentum as of late...

Top 3 Checks/Counters for NP Mega Houndoom have been chosen (no specific order):

Top 3 Counters:

Blissey - canasian
Goodra - Professional2341
Shedinja - Skalaylee
Snorlax - President Shinra

Top 3 Checks:

Empoleon - Meowiekins
Hydreigon - Xyldaz
Infernape - Kitten Milk

OP and leaderboard will be updated accordingly...Here's next week's Victim:

Set name: Choice Band Krookodile
name: Choice Band
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Stone Edge / Superpower
move 4: Pursuit / Aqua Tail
ability: Intimidate
item: Choice Band
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly / Adamant

Chesnaught as a counter

Chesnaught@ Leftovers
Bulletproof
Nature: Impish
248 HP/244 Def/16 Spe
-Synthesis/Leech Seed
-Hammer Arm
-Spikes
-Spiky Shield

Defensive Chesnaught is the perfect answer to CB Krookodile, possessing a rare typing that offers it resistances to not just Krook's STAB's, but also its strongest coverage options of Stone Edge and Aqua Tail (which cripple other options like Togekiss)

252 Atk Choice Band Krookodile Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 244+ Def Chesnaught: 72-84 (18.9 - 22.1%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

Meanwhile, Chesnaught has recovery in Synthesis or Leech Seed to shrug the damage off, and then:
4 Atk Chesnaught Hammer Arm vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Krookodile: 276-326 (83.3 - 98.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

The speed EV's allow Chesnaught to creep over uninvested Vaporeon, which isn't relevant to this victim but it's a worthwhile consideration.

My check is an offensive Shaymin

Shaymin @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Seed Flare
- Earth Power
- Air Slash
- Rest

Shaymin is a solid check for Band Krook because it out speeds jolly Krook and can live a hit from adamant Krook. Shaymin can also Ohko Krook with a seed flare and like I said it can live any hit so even if you miss you get a second chance. Shaymin can also hit a lot of switch ins hard. Seed Flare can give a sp. def drop to any walls or tanks on switch in, earth power beats down any steel, poison, or fire switch ins, and air slash is good for hitting grass, bug, and flying type mons. Finally Rest so that if your opponent has a good Shaymin counter you can just rest to full and switch out meaning he is usable to switch in on Krook a few more times, if you play Shaymin properly he is a counter but I felt as that stipulation itself causes Shaymin to only be a check.

252 SpA Life Orb Shaymin Seed Flare vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Krookodile: 572-673 (172.8 - 203.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Shaymin: 243-286 (71.2 - 83.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Choice Band Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Shaymin: 220-261 (64.5 - 76.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Hydreigon as check:

Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Superpower/Iron Tail
- Roost

Basically comes in on both of Krook's STABS, Aqua Tail, and Sone Edge once even if Adamant and OHKOes with Draco Meteor. Good check to scarf since now Stone Edge doesn't 2HKO which means that you can safely kill with Draco on anything but superpower. Also has Roost to continue checking, which is always a plus. Another important thin is that you outspeed all non scarf Krookodile who can't 2HKO you without superpower anyway.

Hydra on Krook
252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Krookodile: 360-425 (108.7 - 128.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Krook on Hydra
252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 132-156 (40.6 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 89-105 (27.3 - 32.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Ok so you live max damage on both Knock Offs with Rocks and can roost up or 2HKO with No Item Draco (too lazy to calc ok it kills)

252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 182-215 (56 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Outspeed and OHKO or roost predicting switch, ez

You Live Aqua Tail and Earthquake, and are OHKOed by Superpower even if Jolly. So yeah, great check also does well vs no Superpower Scarf Krook, and Bulky Krook.

reserving Granbull as counter

edit :
Presenting Granbull as counter :

Granbull @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Play Rough
- Heal Bell
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Granbull remains a great defensive answer to many physical hard-hitters in the tier such as Mienshao, Absol, Haxorus, Krookodile and even some Hydreigon. Intimidate aids soften the blows Granbull recives, thus the most -1 Band Adamant Krookodile can do with EQ won't even be a 2hko regardless of leftovers, and it is never good to be locked into a ground move. While taking miniscule damage from Knock Off, Granbull is often the switch-in to this move. Thus Wish support or Restalk is adviced to keep Granbull healthy and in combination with Heal Bell, Granbull makes a great Rest user. Play Rough is STAB and completes the moveset, denting and nearly 1hko's the Krookodile. Other options for moveset includes Earthquake, which greatly covers Fairy STAB, Thunder Wave and even Bulk Up.

Relevant Calcs :
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Granbull: 144-171 (37.5 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Granbull: 70-83 (18.2 - 21.6%) -- possible 5HKO
4 Atk Granbull Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Krookodile: 272-324 (82.1 - 97.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Bulky Whimsicott as a counter check

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Evs: 252 HP / 252 Def or SpD / 4 SpA
Nature: Bold / Calm
Moves:
-Giga Drain
-Stun Spore / Leech Seed
-Encore / Moonblast
-U-turn

Sporting a resistance to both of Krookodile's powerful STAB moves, Whimsicott finds itself able to avoid the 2HKO from Knock Off so long as it's running HP Evs.

252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Whimsicott: 139-164 (43 - 50.7%)
252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Knock Off vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Whimsicott: 93-110 (28.7 - 34%)
0 SpA Whimsicott Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Krookodile: 176-210 (53.1 - 63.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Whimsicott: 191-225 (59.1 - 69.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Whimsicott: 134-158 (41.4 - 48.9%) -- 15.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Combined with the healing from Giga Drain, Whimsi even dodges 2HKO from Stone Edge with some Defensive investment. In addition, Whimsicott can wreak havoc by snatching up offensive momentum with U-Turn or spreading Paralysis / Leech Seed healing. Stun Spore also serves as an emergency check to Krook in the case that Whimsicott was worn down for any reason and can't take it on. In this case it can slow Krook down for the rest of the team to take advantage of.

I would say this is a lot more of a check because it is limited to one stone edge switch in and is then killed the next time it tries to switch in. Maybe change this set to only Phys def so that way it is a for sure counter or change to a check because it seems better as a check.

COUNTER
Tangrowth
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 44 HP / 252 Def / 212 SpA
Modest Nature
- Sleep Powder/Leech Seed
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Synthesis

Switch in, take a 2 knock offs, giga drain OHKOs. Rest is filler.

Machamp as solid check

Machamp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Guts
EVs: 232 HP / 28 Atk / 248 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch
- Stone Edge

Speed EVs outspeed Jolly Krook w/ a Scarf, HP EVs live CB EQ (Adamant) after rocks, and the rest put in Atk.

252+ Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Krookodile Earthquake vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Machamp: 301-355 (79.4 - 93.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
28+ Atk Machamp Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Krookodile: 440-518 (111.9 - 131.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

of course it's gimmicky af, and that's why I'm nominating it as a Check, since it really wouldn't have a chance in being a counter with all the pokemons mentioned already.

Virizion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute/Taunt
- Giga Drain
- Calm Mind
- Focus Blast

This is a bulky-speedy special set-up sweeper that capitalizes on Krook's movesets. Even choice band eq or super power cannot 2ohko this set. Bulky Krook can taunt if it likes, but it will eventually fall to giga drain. Frankly, the only option in this 1vs1 situation is to battle and lose or switch and get predicted/setup on. Here are some calcs to show you what this poke can do to Krook, including bulkier sets (just for fun):

Against Krook
0 SpA Virizion Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Krookodile: 200-236 (50.7 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Virizion Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Krookodile: 318-374 (96 - 112.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 0 SpA Virizion Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Krookodile: 474-560 (120.3 - 142.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Against Virizion
252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Virizion: 162-192 (41.9 - 49.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Krookodile Superpower vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Virizion: 260-307 (67.3 - 79.5%) -- normally a guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery, however giga drain prevents this this occurring, snagging you the 1vs1 win.

While Virizion sports worse defensive stats than a pokemon like Chestnaught, the benefits to using Virizion is having the opportunity to set-up/predict, or at the very least, hard check Krook dead in its tracks. No Krook set imaginable will work against this set, and frankly, in a 1vs1 situation, Virizion can take on more threats than Chestnaught can, postmortem-krook.
