World Defender
Taken over from Seismitoad

Overview
########
  • Hits an important speed tier
  • Weak without a boosting item
  • Frail, but has a good defensive typing which makes it an excellent pivot

Choice Scarf
########
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Shadow Ball
move 3: Thunderbolt / Will-O-Wisp
move 4: Trick
ability: Levitate
item: Choice Scarf
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========
  • Volt Switch allows Rotom to act as a pivot and gain momentum
  • Shadow Ball gets decent coverage with Electric-type moves and deals solid damage
  • Thunderbolt is more reliable than Volt Switch as it does not force Rotom out.
  • Will-O-Wisp is an option over Thunderbolt to burn bulkier Pokemon, especially Ground-types such as Torterra and Seismitoad which Rotom cannot pivot out against
  • Trick allows Rotom to permanently cripple walls such as Audino, Cryogonal, and Dragalge

Set Details
========
  • The EVs maximizes Rotom's offensive capabilities
  • A Timid nature is used to take advantage of Rotom's speed, which in conjuction with Choice Scarf, allows it to outrun Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Sawk, Choice Scarf Mesprit, and Gorebyss after a Shell Smash.

Usage Tips
========
  • Rotom can abuse its resistances and immunities to pivot in and out throughout the match to gain momentum for the team.
  • Rotom is frail, so try not to switch it into powerful attackers.
  • Watch out for Pursuit from the likes of Liepard and Tauros when pivoting
  • Trick is useful for crippling walls, but don't use it too recklessly as it might leave one's team weak to fast threats

Team Options
========
  • Teammates that take care of bulky Ground-types are appreciated as they can block Rotom's Volt Switch
  • Although Rotom doesn't take huge damage from hazards, it will be switching in multiple times during a game, so Rapid Spin or Defog support is appreciated

Defensive
########
name: Defensive
move 1: Will-O-Wisp
move 2: Shadow Ball
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Pain Split
ability: Levitate
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 72 Def / 184 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========
  • Will-O-Wisp allows Rotom to cripple physical attackers such as Sawk, Kangaskhan, and Tauros
  • Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt are reliable STAB attacks
  • Pain Split gives Rotom a form of recovery
  • By giving up a coverage move, Rest and Sleep Talk can be used, but the trade-off is too great as Rotom is not bulky enough to abuse RestTalk effectively
  • Hex is an option over Shadow Ball to hit burned opponents hard
  • Volt Switch can be used over Thunderbolt, but this Rotom generally wants to be able to stay in on targets such as Kangaskhan and Tauros

Set Details
========
  • The EVs and nature maximize physical bulk while allowing Rotom to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan
  • More Speed Evs can be moved into defense if one wishes to have more bulk
  • On the contrary, one can invest up to 252 Speed EVs to outpace Pokemon such as Jolly Sawk or Kangaskhan

Usage Tips
========
  • Burning the opposing Pokemon is a priority as Rotom does not take powerful physical attacks well even with investment
  • Keep Rotom away from strong special attackers

Team Options
========
  • Special walls such as Audino, Ferroseed, and Cryogonal work well with Rotom as they can take special attacks while Rotom can check Fighting-types
  • Granbull can take Knock Offs aimed at Rotom and aid it in its job of walling physical attackers
Choice Specs
########
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Shadow ball
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Trick
ability: Levitate
item: Choice Specs
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========
  • Volt switch is used to gain momentum and often put the opponent in a situation where they lose momentum or are forced to let a Pokemon die.
  • Shadow Ball hits most non Dark- or Normal-types for solid damage
  • Thunderbolt is Rotom's strongest attack and does not force switches unlike Volt Switch
  • Trick can cripple counters such as Audino and Seismitoad

Set Details
========
  • The EVs maximizes Rotom's offensive capabilities
  • Choice Specs allows Rotom to hit really hard.
  • A Timid nature is used to get the jump on Pokemon such as Sawk, Lilligant, and Kangaskhan.

Usage Tips
========
  • This set is effective at breaking through some of the counters to the Choice Scarf set, which is what most opponents expect when they see Rotom.
  • Like the Choice Scarf set, this Rotom can be an effective pivot

Team Options
========
  • Hazard support is helpful so Rotom can grab 2HKOs on Pokemon such as Audino and Dragalge
  • Sweepers which enjoy Pokemon such as Seimsmitoad and Ferroseed weakened, such as Feraligatr and Kabutops, are good teammates.

Other Options
########
  • SubSplit
  • SubCharge
  • Dual Screens
  • Parafusion

Checks & Counters
########
  • Electric immune pokemon
  • Pursuit
  • Strong, bulky Pokemon
  • Faster Scarfers

imo move the defensive pivot above specs. i feel it works in the current meta a lot better, I've been having a lot of success with it and I know Brawlfest has been having a lot of success with the defensive pivot as well.

anyway everything written looks fine [QC 2/3]

Before I give this the final stamp what are QCs thoughts on the sub pain split set? I personally am unopposed to it getting its own set. So before this goes to writing that should be decided on.

id like to see some actual reasons for using the subsplit set before adding it (hint: spiritomb being gone doesn't automatically make it viable). it fails to get past its common counters and lacks volt switch which is huge

Everything else seems good so QC 3/3

Brawlfest if you think it deserves an actual set then you can make a case and it can be added in after writeup.
