Bastiodon [QC 0/3] [GP 0/2]

Overview
########

  • Stellar bulk in both sides allows it to check many threats.
  • Utility moves such as Magic Coat and Stealth Rock makes it a potent supporter.
  • Sturdy allows it to set Stealth Rock against most leads.
  • Has a bad typing overall, but it allows it to counter threats such as Slurpuff effectively.
  • Has huge competition with Probopass, Steelix, and Ferroseed

Utility
########
name: Utility
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Toxic
move 3: Roar
move 4: Magic Coat
ability: Sturdy
item: Leftovers
evs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
nature: Calm

Moves
========

  • Stealth Rock is used to cause residual damage and cripple Focus Sash users.
  • Toxic cripples opposers and allows it to stop attackers from going haywire.
  • Roar is a good way to rack up entry hazard damage and helps against stat boosters.
  • Magic Coat is a useful move as it allows Bastiodon to stop Taunt users and bounce off Stealth Rock and Spikes.
  • Taunt may be used over Roar, so Bastiodon can handle Ferroseed and other threats more optimally. Roar is still the better option overall, as Bastiodon can shuffle threats well when accompanied by Stealth Rock, and appreciates the ability to phaze dangerous stat boosters.
Set Details
========

  • The EV spread maximises special bulk as it is needed to wall threats optimally.
  • Leftovers is the item of choice since Bastiodon lacks a reliable form of recovery.
  • Sturdy is Bastiodon's most useful ability.
  • If Bastiodon is using Taunt, 84 Speed EVs may be used to outpace Probopass and Togetic.

Usage Tips
========
  • Best conserved to wall dangerous threats such as Slurpuff.
  • Set Stealth Rock early-game if possible, but try to keep Bastiodon healthy.
  • Roar stat boosters Bastiodon walls such as Togetic.
  • Bastiodon works best on stall teams, as Bastiodon kills much needed momentum other archetypes appreciate.

Team Options
========

  • Bastiodon greatly appreciates cleric support; Audino and Lickilicky can support. Bastiodon with Wish and Heal Bell.
  • Bastiodon works well with Pokemon that can help cover its main weaknesses, such as Pelipper, and Tangela.
  • Ghost-types such as Mismagius can aid Bastiodon by Rapid-Blocking spinners.
  • Bastiodon works best on stall teams, and is often set up on by other various Stealth Rock setters; as a result, Defoggers such as Togetic and Pelipper are very favourable.
  • Rapid Spinners such as Cryogonal can help clear hazards without clearing Bastiodon's Stealth Rock.
  • Weezing, Musharna, and Vileplume have great synergy with Bastiodon, and are great for checking various physical attackers Bastiodon cannot wall, such as Sawk.

Other Options
########

  • Rock Blast is a decent alternative over Magic Coat that also allows Bastiodon to do something against Pokemon that use Taunt and Encore, in addition to letting Bastiodon 2HKO offensive Xatu most of the time after Life Orb recoil; however, Magic Coat is much more useful in the long run, and Bastiodon's low Attack stat limits its viability.
  • Metal Burst has good synergy with Sturdy, and allows Bastiodon to work decently well as a Stealth Rock lead for more offensive teams.
  • You may opt to use a RestTalk set with the moves: Rest, Sleep Talk, Toxic, Roar, as it grants Bastiodon a decent way to shuffle opposers, heal, and cure harmful status effects.
  • Protect may be used to scout, gain more Leftovers recovery, and rack up more Toxic damage, but Bastiodon really appreciates the utility of its other moves more than Protect.
  • Fire Blast is an option over Magic Coat with a Careful Nature, which gives Bastiodon a chance to 2HKO Ferroseed.
Checks & Counters
########

**Xatu**: Bastiodon has no way of doing anything against it.
**Pokemon that don't mind Toxic**: Bastiodon has no offensive presence at all, so it has no way of damaging most threats that are immune to Toxic.
**SE hits**: Both Ground-type and Fighting-type attacks can kill it easily as it is 4x weak to them.
**Mold Breaker users**: Mold Breaker Pokemon such as Sawk stop Bastiodon from setting Stealth Rock, and only fear a well timed Roar or Toxic, while Mold Breaker Pokemon can break through Sturdy and OHKO Bastiodon.

Slash Rock Blast with Magic Coat. It doesn't do much, but it keeps it from being wrecked by Taunt and moreso Encore and does a decent amount to offensive Xatu depending on hits.

I'm sure there stuff you can fit into OO. Metal Burst is alright for offensive teams as a Stealth Rock lead. You could use like RestTalk/Toxic/Roar, that sounds annoying and maybe slightly worth using. Fire Blast for Ferroseed is cool. That really is about it though. How sad.

The skeleton overall kind of lacks detail, but there's not much to Bastiodon. It kind of just comes in and takes hits. Still, if you can expand on stuff like Team Options, that would be great.

Protect might be an option for OO, mainly to scout, gain more Leftovers recovery, and rack up more Toxic damage. The only really notable move that wasn't already mentioned by Hollywood.

For the Overview and/or Usage Tips, you should probably make a note that Bastiodon is most effective on stall teams because it is a huge momentum kill on any other team.

For Checks and Counters, Mold Breaker users are probably worth noting as they break through Sturdy and can stop it from setting up Stealth Rock and support its team, especially Choice Band Sawk. Bastiodon can hardly touch them except through Toxic or well timed Roar, and most of them can simply OHKO it.

I personally think Rock Blast shouldn't be slashed. It only hits Xatu and doesn't do anything to defensive variants, plus it would have to forgo Magic Coat, which is a lot more useful. QC can correct me if I'm wrong but I think it should be moved to OO if it doesn't do anything but 2HKO offensive Xatu.

Overview: mention Steelix as a mon that gives it competition. Also explicitly mention here that Bastiodon should only be used on stall because it kills momentum outside of it.

Moves: Mention that Magic Coat prevents it from being Spikes fodder as well

Expand Team Options to include more stall teammates. Include stuff like spinners, bulky spinblockers, etc

In Other Options add Fire Blast, although situational, to do some damage to Ferroseed, or it's a stalemate otherwise

You can mention Taunt when you mention Fire Blast in OO. They're pretty much both exclusively for Ferroseed, but with Taunt, you can at least prevent it from setting up without having to spam Magic Coat.

I agree with cutting Rock Blast now that CM Xatu is really common on the ladder. It's total setup fodder either way, so it's not really worth bothering to use it. Speaking of that though, mention SubCM Uxie and CM Musharna as partners so that your team doesn't get bodied by CM Xatu.

Adrian Marin, make scorp's and my changes, and I'll give this a final check before stamping.

Mention specifically in the Overview that Bastiodon should only be used on Stall teams

Usage Tips needs some brushing up:
- Move the part about Stall teams to Overview and Team Options, it doesn't really fit here
- Regarding the part about stat boosters than Bastiodon beats, im pretty sure no good player would try to set up before Bastiodon is gone. If youre keeping this part, mention a more common stat booster that Bastiodon walls than Togetic: Uxie and Scyther should do the trick.
- Expand on how you would use some of the moves in different situations. You could talk about using Toxic to catch Fighting- and Ground-types on the switch, or Roar to rack up hazard damage and discourage switching, or Magic Coat against Pokemon such as Roselia or lead Archeops to prevent yourself from being hazard fodder.

Other Options:
- I think you mean Calm when talking about Fire Blast

Adrian Marin can you make it so Team Options only talks about Stall teammates? Also Defog is more common on Stall (unless you use Cryogonal). Only relevant Pokemon too.

do this and tag me when done

Fire Blast is an option over Magic Coat with a Careful Nature, which gives Bastiodon a chance to 2HKO Ferroseed.
remove from OO

in team options:

talk about gourgeist for ghost-types, misdreavus too

roselia

here's some stall mons you can probably talk about:

lanturn

bulky slurpuff

cm psychics

vullaby for defog

do all of this and qc 1/3
