AOPSUser Has Doubts in the Shrine of Ruin

To Defy the End: The Shrine of Ruin

Rumors of the Shrine of Ruin have made their way to Mt Chimney in Hoenn, where the majority of the local wild Pokémon have vanished. The Cable Car comes to a stop with the two trainers sent by the growing Adventurer’s Guild of the Smogon region, to follow the advice of the Natu from beneath Mt. Coronet and find a weapon from the Shrine. However, even if the majority of the wild Pokémon in the area have gone to ground, it does not mean that all of them have...

The dou walks off the cable cart into a crowded room, dozens of tourists talking and reading pamplets about the volcano they are on. It appears that recently, the volcano is spewing ash at a more volumous rate.

What do the trainers do?

(Sorry about the little flavor at the moment! I'm rather tired right now, and I hope to make it up to you soon.)

"Modern tourists. I never understand them. There's a spewing volcano right there and all they want to do is take photos."

"I'm not a fan of tourists, but I like volcanos. The heat doesn't bother me. Speaking of volcanoes, weren't we here because Thoth found a lead?"

"Well, not a lead per se. He said something like 'you should check it out because maybe there's something there.'"

"Hooray, a wild goose chase!"

Imhotep: Walk towards the caldera until the ash makes you feel uncomfortable.
Dragonite: Fly towards the caldera and over it (if possible) unless the ash makes you feel uncomfortable, in which case turn back.

Well if there's a volcano spewing ash, might as well investigate it. Right? I think Pyroak should get the closest, though if Dragonite manages to do a fly-over that would be nice.

"Perhaps we should know our area a bit more before proceeding..."

"What's to know? There's fire and ash, so it's good!"

"Why do I even bother?"

Doubt: Grab a pamphlet if any are nearby before proceeding towards the caldera carefully, following in Charcoal's path. Don't read the pamphlet yet.
Charcoal: Lead the way towards the caldera, keeping watch for anything suspicious in the ash.

I doubt the pamphlet will have any useful information, but any bit helps. Hopefully we don't stumble into anything too bad,

Area 1: Mt. Chimney Peak

The two trainers and their Pokemon head towards the volcano, Doubt picking up a pamphlet along the way. However, despite the searching of Sam and Charcoal, nothing is found. The Dragonite reports that there isn't anything on the other side of the volcano, which just leaves the side the trainers are currently on.

Huh, coulda sworn I equipped a rare candy. Either way, equipping one now.

"Well, that didn't yield the results I'd hoped for."

"It got the results I hoped for"
"Which would be...?"
"Playing in the ash!"
"Why am I not surprised?"

Doubt: Read the pamphlet whilst continuing to walk towards the Caldera, using Charcoal as a guide to watch over you. If at any time you get too uncomfortable to continue, stop.
Charcoal: Continue towards the Caldera, stopping to protect Doubt if he stops.

I think we're not going to get any results from our current search. Our objective probably lies in the caldera itself.

"Well it's a good thing I'm immortal. Otherwise this ash would probably be taking a few years off my li---*cough**cough*"

"Inside the caldera you say? I'm not a big fan of jumping into lava mys--*cough**cough*"

Imhotep: Talk to some of the tourists to see if they know anything about a weapon of some kind.
Sam: Stay close to its trainer ready to protect him if need be.

Area 1: Mt. Chimney Peak

Doubt, having found nothing, starts reading the pamphlet

"Welcome to scenic Mount Chimney National Park, the location of the oldest volcano in the Hoenn region.
It spits out over 12 tons of ash per day, and measures 1 mile wide in diameter.
The peak was the site of the Meteorite Incident several years ago. A replica of the machine used is found in the museum at Lavaridge Town.
Down the mountain paths you will find several walking paths leading down the mountain into Lavaridge Town. Adventurous tourists can also take a look at the old Team Magma Base, though this is only recommended for Pokemon trainers as the area is abundant in wild Pokemon.

This is as far as Doubt gets into the pamphlet before Charcoal stops him. Good thing too, he was about to waltz right into the volcano's mouth. It seems there is nothing of note this way.

Imhotep spend their time talking to tourists. Most of them are not able to give any useful info, save that the path downwards is conspicuously absent of wild Pokemon right now.

Eventually though, they do find one person that seems to have some cursory knowledge.

"Weapon? I haven't heard too much about a weapon. However, if I know my stories, you can usually find what you're looking for by looking for strange happenings. Take, for instance, that the path downwards doesn't have any Pokemon. Weird stuff happening down there. I can take you down that way if you want, but I'm not handling any nasties you might run into."

"That was close!"
"Pay attention!"

Both: Warily follow the guide down the path. Be on the lookout for any signs of trouble, be it from the guide or other things

We don't have any other leads, so we should probably follow him, at least for now. Perhaps we should head towards, the old Team Magma base?

"But I'm not handling any nasties you run into."

"Oh please don--"

"We'll take it."

"--'t."

Both: Follow the hiker, while staying wary for signs of trouble.

Area 2: Jagged Pass

The trainers enter Jagged Pass, with the kind hiker leading them down the path.

The landscape leading down the mountain is unusually clean of wildlife. Ash covered grass sits without shaking, their leaves folding to the weight of the ash and gravity. Where the grass hasn't covered, the stone of many previous eruptions shows under a thin layer of ash.

Eventually they reach a cave blocked by a boulder, and Doubt figures that this is the Old Team Magma base the pamphlet mentioned. Perhaps the shrine is within? The hiker then tilts his head in confusion.

"Huh? That wasn't there before."

He attempts to move the boulder by himself, but before too long, a fist suddenly comes out of the boulder, punching him off a cliff into the valley below! Fortunately he's just scraped up, but he dusts himself off and says.

"Ow! What on earth! I think you guys have found your shrine, so I'll just be headed off now. Adios!"

As you see him leave, you notice the boulder sprouting some legs and another arm, standing up. Then his head pokes through, revealing a Golem! It gives the trainers a hostile look, then attacks!

"ROOOOOOAAAAARRRR!!!!"

His roar calls a Geodude over, and he attacks you too.

Perhaps the hiker may have been a tad hasty...

"Well that was useful."

Imhotep: Telekinesis (Golem) --- Reflect (all but self)

Area 2: Jagged Pass

"ROAR!!!!!"

Earthquake~Stone Edge (Dragonite)

"None who defy the master shall live!"

Rock Cannon (Rock Throw + Rock Blast combo) (Pyroak)~Cooldown (Rock Blast Pyroak)

And with that, the battle begins in earnest. Doubt is the first to move, as he swipes the Golem with his sword.

Doubt used Sacred Sword (Golem)
To Crit: [1=Yes]=1=Yes
Damage: (9 [BP] + 3 [STAB] + 3 [Critical] - 1.5 [Stat Diff] - 1 [Sturdy])*1.5=18.75

Sam follows up by blasting Geodude with a pulse of water.

Dragonite used Water Pulse (Geodude)
To Crit: [1=Yes]=4=No
To Confuse: [20>= Yes]=19=Yes
Intensity: 2=3 Actions
Damage: (6 [STAB] + 4.5 [Stat Diff] +2 [Expert Belt])*2.25=28.125

Then Imhotep lifts the Golem into the air.

Imhotep used Telekinesis (Golem)
Golem was lifted into the air for 6 Actions
[-6 Energy Imhotep]

At almost the exact same time, the Golem starts a tremor, while Pyroak blasts it with a ball of natural energy.

Speed Tie (1=Pyroak, 2=Golem)=2=Golem

Golem used Earthquake
Target Order: Doubt, Imhotep, Pyroak, Geodude
Dragonite avoided the attack!

Damage: (9 [BP] + 3 [STAB] - 1.5 [Stat Diff] -1 [Sturdy])*2.25=21.375
[21.375 Damage Golem] [-6 Energy Pyroak]

And finally the Geodude resorts to lobbing rocks at Pyroak!

Geodude used Rock Cannon (Pyroak)
Accuracy: [90+90]/2=90
To Hit: [10>= Miss]=77=Hit
# of Hits: [1-2: 2 Hits, 3-4: 3 Hits, 5: 4 Hits, 6: 5 Hits]=2

Energy: [7+3]*1.5-1=14
To Crit: [1=Yes]=Battle Armor
Damage: (14 [BP] + 3 [STAB] - 1.5 [Stat Diff] - 2 [Friend Guard])*1.5=20.25
[20.25 Damage Pyroak] [-14 Energy Geodude]

==============================
The second round begins as our heroes...well they pretty much continue their strategy from before, as evidenced by Doubt slicing Golem with his sword again in a different way.

Doubt used Secret Sword (Golem)
To Crit: [1=Yes]=16=No
Damage: (9 [BP] + 3 [STAB] - 9 [Stat Diff])*1.5=4.5
[4.5 Damage Golem] [-6 Energy Doubt]

Sam then turns his attention to the Golem, and blasts it with a ray of energy.

Dragonite used Focus Blast (Golem)
To Hit: Guaranteed (Telekinesis)
To Crit: [1=Yes]=5=No
To Reduce Stat: [10>= Yes]=98=No
Damage: (12 [BP] + 1.5 [Stat Diff] + 2 [Expert Belt])*1.5=23.25 Damage
[23.25 Damage Golem] [-8 Energy Dragonite]

Imhotep, clearly seeing the danger in letting Golem get any more Earthquakes off, sets up a shield to protect the others from attack.

Imhotep used Reflect
All allies except Imhotep were protected from Physical attacks for 6 actions!
[-9 Energy Imhotep]

Then Pyroak and Golem slug it out again, but this time Golem went slightly faster, smacking Dragonite with some powerful stones. Then Pyroak drains some of the Golem's stamina.

Golem used Stone Edge (Dragonite)
To Hit: [10>= Miss]=30=Hit
To Crit: [2>= Yes]=14=No
Damage: (10*.5*2/3 [BP] + 3 [STAB] + 3 [Stat Diff] -2 [Friend Guard])*1.5=11

Pyroak used Giga Drain (Golem)
To Crit: [1=yes]=7=No
Damage: (8 [BP] + 3 [STAB] - 1.5 [Stat Diff] - 1 [Sturdy])*2.25=19.125
Drain: 19.125/2=9.56
[19.125 Damage Golem] [+9.56 HP Pyroak] [-11 Energy Pyroak]

Finally, Geodude finds itself unable to act thanks to it's former move.

Geodude had to cooldown

Golem: 115 Damage
Geodude: 46 Damage
Doubt: 16 Damage, -12 Energy
Imhotep: 10 Damage, -15 Energy
Pyroak: 19 Damage, -17 Energy
Dragonite: 11 Damage, -12 Energy

With the round behind them, the trainers notice that the Golem has taken a beating, but they're far from unscathed. What will the next round hold for them?

With another round behind them, the trainers notice that Imhotep took a lot of the Golem's rolling. Can they hold the assault or will they have to rethink the proceedings?

And while they think, a new Geodude joins the Golem Squad.

Gale Wing Srock You listed two Geodudes in the final round summary, and I'm not 100% sure, but I think suspending dig counts as an evasive move (although be sure to check with someone more experienced than me)

Doubt, unfortunately a second Geodude joined the Golem Squad. And suspended Damaging Evasive moves don't fall under Protective Evasive moves clause. Sorry about that!

I think Golem's cooldown should be noted in end of round

Um shit?

Imhotep: RUN LIKE HELL
IF that action doesn't work, THEN use Wish --- Chill

Dragonite: Focus Blast (Golem) --- Blizzard
IF Imhotep's action doesn't work, THEN use Bodyblock (Imhotep) Action 2.

Well, I really need to pay more attention.

"Guess we'll just keep going..."
Doubt: Sacred Sword (Golem)~Secret Sword (Golem)
If your target is under the effects of a P/E move, redirect to the second Geodude.
If your target is underground redirect to the second Geodude

Area 2: Jagged Pass (Battle against the Golem Squad)

The Adventurer’s Guild have trained the two trainers to expect the unexpected. But the Golem Squad shocked the team a bit and have caught them off guard, and in a tricky situation. They know that, there is strength in numbers, but seeing that the Golem Squad was growing in numbers too, they did what the Adventurer's Guild asks them never to do unless there is no other way out.

The team lacking a partner was still bent on continuing the assault as they tried to target the boss with all their attacks, trying to weaken the beast down. But the Golem performs a Seismic Toss on the Dragonite shaking the dragon up quite a bit, while the Geodude slows Sam down.

Area 1: Mt. Chimney Peak

"Hey wait up! Didn't you just go inside? What happened?"

The hiker tourist stops High Priest Imhotep from going outside Mt. Chimney,
and finds that Imhotep is hurt quite a bit by the scattered stones in the Jagged Pass,
due to him mindlessly running to save himself.

-2 EN, -2 HP (Imhotep)

This looks like a grim situation for the Adventure Team. Do they have a plan to get through this rampage of the rock types? Stay tuned to find out.
  • Please note: "RUN LIKE HELL" is treated as a reckless Run Action.
  • Imhotep leaves the current battle and cannot join the team until the next battle or Role Play action.
  • Golem was no longer under Telekinesis and Friend Guard was not active, after Imhotep left the battle.
  • If one hit crits, in a Multi-hit move, the entire attack goes through screens. [ Sorry for the Crit. ]
What will the team do now?

Sam decided that it was time he healed himself a bit, while Doubt and Charcoal go at the Golem once again. Charcoal took a small breather before Draining more energy from the Golem. However, the Golem squad shifted their focus towards the other trainer. Could it be that they do not like Trainers? Or are they angry at their fancy clothing?

==========

Area 1: Mt. Chimney Peak

"Oh Really? That Golem is so powerful? No wonder I was kicked so badly!"

The hiker and Imhotep discuss about the Golem Squad.

The situation is turning from bad to worse. But the Golem seems to be tiring, will the team devastate the Golem squad in Clutch? Or ...
Stay tuned to find out.
