Ubers Scolipede (GP: 2/2)

While I specialize in abusing scolipede in OU, I feel iron defense scoli deserves mention here too. Here is my reason:

252+ Atk Choice Band Ho-Oh Brave Bird vs. +2 240 HP / 252+ Def Scolipede: 252-296 (78.5 - 92.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Hello powerful super effective STAB, meet iron defense. I shall now excuse my scolipede to pass his speed and defense to the nearest sweeper, likely netting it a free turn to setup and deal significant damage.

Or I could pass to mew and trololol evasion/amnesia spam, that works too.

Even though Edgar gave a third check I feel the analysis is a bit short. I know that Scolipede is not a very deep mon but if QC or someone good at writing analyses sees something that is worth adding please mention it.

Ready for GP stuff.

The analysis length seems fine, GP always says that its better to have a shorter and quality analysis that is kept to the point than a fluff ridden webpage long of text. A few things i'd change before GP sees this though (they will change it anyway so it makes life easier for them):
  • Set names need to be the same, so if the set is called "Anti-Lead" then the name below it must match.
  • I seen mentions of "abuse" in the baton pass set description and also in the lead team options- i'd probably change that since iirc its one of the things you dont say in an analysis (grammar standards has it somewhere)
  • You said Arceus-Ghost beats Mega Gengar 1v1 (team options) - this isnt really true since Gengar will either Destiny Bond, revenge kill a weakened Ghostceus or switch out, it has no reason to try and 1v1 Arceus-Ghost in the first place. If you want to mention Gengar then say it beats the non-mega before it evolves or something.
  • I'd probably mention that you need lucky Pin Missile hits to OHKO Darkrai and Deoxys-S (4 hits for Darkrai and 3 for a non-bulky Deo-S)
That's all i seen from glancing over the analysis but asides from the small nitpicks its fine to me.

Overview

Scolipede manages to secure a support niche in Ubers due to several factors. Scolipede has access to one of the best offensive abilities in the game which is,(AC) Speed Boost, allowing for lightning fast movement. This ability is complemented by a unique 112 base sSpeed which allows Scolipede to outpace most threats in Ubers and everything unboosted at +1. Scolipede's movepool is quite useful as well, having access to the coveted Toxic Spikes as well as being able to effectively abuse moves such as Endeavor and Baton Pass. The multi-hitting Pin Missile also allows Scolipede to anti-lead against foes such as Deoxys which rely on a Focus Sash. Despite these advantages,(AC) Scolipede suffers to some extent asince it is a predictable lead due to how specialized it is. This is further compounded by the fact that Scolipede is not very bulky and suffers from a weakness to Stealth Rock which can sometimes make getting it back into battle difficult. Scolipede can also struggle against sand leads, priority, and bulky offense in general due to its common use of support Arceus. Despite these flaws,(AC) Scolipede remains one of the best anti-leads and preforms excellently on hyper offensive buildteams.

Anti-Lead
########
Name: Deoxys-C (Deoxys-Counter)Anti-Lead
Move 1: Pin Missile
Move 2: Spikes / Toxic Spikes
Move 3: Protect / Toxic
Move 4: Endeavor
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly

Move Details
========

Pin Missile is Scolipede's offensive move of choice and provides a solution to common Focus Sash leads in addition to dealing decent damage. WhileAlthough Scolipede can run both Spikes and Toxic Spikes,(AC) it is generally better to choose one or the other. Regular Spikes are generally superior as they are less risky and can be stacked further. Toxic Spikes is a unique option when compared to other leads, however,(AC) as a single layer can be dangerous as it will not badly poison support Arceus that may come in to use Defog. Protect is handy for general utility but mainly it is for accumulating +1 speed and preventing Fake Out abuse from Mega Kangaskahn. Toxic is another option instead of Protect which can be used to punish switch-ins that attempt to eliminate Scolipede's hazards. In the final slot,(AC) Endeavor is used as when combined with Scolipede's Focus Sash and Speed Boost foes can be taken to 1 HP just before Scolipede dies. Although it is not slashed, Earthquake can be used as a decent option to hit Mega Gengar which can otherwise easily remove Scolipede.

Set Details
========

Scolipede's set is quite basic. Max speed is needed to beat Deoxys-Speed, and therefore all unboosted threats at +1. The aAttack investment is critical for helping Scolipede to OHKO threats such as Darkrai and Deoxys-Speed which have decent bulk when compared to Scolipede's mediocre aAttack. Focus Sash is Scolipede's best item choice to help obtain two attacks.

Usage Tips
========

Typically against faster foes,(AC) Scolipede likes to Protect turn one, h. However,(AC) when against threats such as Deoxys which laset entry hazards,(AC) it is better to attack, if they switch this can lead to free hazards or status. Early predictions are important and it must be decided if your opponent will attack or switch as this will affect your best move. WhileAlthough Scolipede is primarily a lead, if your opponent has counter leads such as Thundurus orand Mega Gengar,(AC) Scolipede is best saved for later. Scolipede's tendency to lead can also become an advantage as you can bank on your opponent's assumptions and become more unpredictable whileas Scolipede does not necessarily have to lead to effectively set hazards.

Team Options
========

Due to Scolipede's better momentum when compared to many other hazard leads and its access to Toxic Spikes,(AC) it works best on a heavy offensive build. Ghost -types(Add hyphen) are good partners for Scolipede as they are immune to common nNormal-type priority moves while they alsoand block the few users of Rapid Spin which can immediately eliminate its hazards. Calm Mind Arceus-Ghost is an excellent partner as it can beat Mega Gengar one on one while it can alsod threaten Defog users in general. Scolipede also needs Pokemon that abuse the hazards that it lays such as Mega Kangaskahn and Shaymin-Sky who appreciate Toxic Spikes on the opponent's side. Pokemon such as Ooffensive Mewtwo, Choice Scarf Kyogre, Rayquaza, and offensive Palkia also greatly abuse Scolipede's hazards. Lastly,(AC) Scolipede needs teammates that can lead in place of it when the opponent has leads that can threaten Scolipede.

Baton Pass Lead
########
Name: Baton Passive Agressive Lead
Move 1: Protect
Move 2: Baton Pass
Move 3: Swords Dance / Substitute
Move 4: Pin Missile
Item: Focus Sash / Black Sludge
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly

Move Details
========

Protect allows Scolipede to accumulate sSpeed boosts to be passed and prevents Fake Out abuse from Mega Kangaskahn. Baton Pass is mandatory for a passing set. Swords Dance allows Scolipede to deal respectable damage with Pin Missile at +2, however it is mainly for passing to receivers along with sSpeed. Alternatively,(AC) Substitute can be used over Swords Dance which,(AC) when paired with Protect it,(AC) can help it accumulate much speed while Scolipede remains Sprotected. Pin Missile is Scolipede's only attacking move which still allows for anti-leading against certain common leads.

Set Details
========

Max sSpeed allows Scolipede to out-speed(No Hyphen) Deoxys-Speed at +1 and therfore the entire un-boosted tier at +1. Attack investment allows Pin Missile to deal enough damage to anti-lead threats such as Deoxys-Speed and makes +2 Mhelps Pin Missile deal decent damage. A Focus Sash maximizes Scolipede's chances of passing after boosting. A possible alternative to a Focus Sash is Black Sludge which should only be run with Substitute and heals significant HP to allow Scolipede to accumulatsurvive longer with Protect + Substitute.

Usage Tips
========

SinceAs this Scolipede is primarily for passing, Taunt will prevent it from doing its job entirely. Protect should be used against Deoxys leads that may Taunt so that it can out-speed(No hyphen) and OHKO with Pin missile next turn while remainto avoid being un-taunted. Scolipede is quite fragile and at great risk of being knockKOed out by priority so it should Baton Pass as soon as possible. Because Scolipede is quite identifiable as a lead,(AC) it tends to draw out counter anti-leads which. This can be planned for and capitalized upon while Scolipede can beis saved for later use.

Team Options
========

Once Scolipede has accumulated stat boosts,(AC) it will need teammates to receive them. Such receivers should have good bulk and offensive power that can be hindered to some extent by their lower sSpeeds. Groudon, Arceus, and Kyogre are some of many examples. Ghost -types(Add hyphen) such as Arceus-Ghost and Giratina formes that provide a solution to Mega Kangaskahn while also providing Defog support which can be useful when saving Scolipede for later use.

Other Options
========

A more offensive Baton Pass Scolipede set is possible with Earthquake or Rock Slide as coverage, Earthquake beating threats such as Mega Gengar and even punishing foes such as Dialga leads while Rock Slide hits fFlying -types(Add hyphen) that resists Pin Missile. Aqua Tail is also possiusable as it hits Excadrill leads and deals chip damages to Landorus-T to place it in KO range for other physical sweepers such as Mega Blaziken.

Checks and Counters
========

**Mega Kangaskahn**: Due to the double-strikingmulti-hit nature of Parental Bond, Mega Kangaskahn can bypass Scolipede's Focus Sash and OHKO it.

**Prankster Anti-Leads**: These ignorePokemon bypass Scolipede's sSpeed bBoosts and abuse support moves meaning that,(AC) so they will likely move first. Several of them have access to Taunt whichso will stop both of Scolipede's sets entirely. Pokemon under this classification include Thundurus, Sableye,(AC) and Whimsicott.

**Ho-Oh**: When led against Scolipede it,(AC) Ho-Oh can use Sacred Fire which has a high burn rate that can effectively OHKO Scolipede thereby limiting it to a single layer of entry hazards or preventing a Baton Pass.

**Mega Gengar** (Anti-Lead set only): Taunt shuts down Scolipede and traps it while Pin Missile does nothing thereby limiting it to a single layer of hazards.

**Priority Moves**: SinceAs priority moves ignore sSpeed bBoosts,(AC) these Pokemon can also limit Scolipede to a single layer of hazards or killKO it before it can Baton Pass. Typical priority users include Swords Dance Arceus, Rayquaza, Mega Scizor, Giratina-O,(AC) and Aegislash.

**Weather Leads**: Sandstorm damage will also potentially limit Scolipede to a single layer of hazards and stop and knock out a Baton Pass set before a pass. The only commonly used Pokemon with Sand Stream are Tyranitar and Hippowdon.

**Defog / Rapid Spin Leads** (Anti-Lead set only): These Pokemon undo Scolipede's hazards. Support Arceus with Will-O-Wisp can stall out Scolipede and continue to Defog thereby stopping any hazards.

**Phaze Leads** (BP set only): These can phaze out Baton Pass Scolipede either before it passes or after. The most common Pokemon with phaze moves are Groudon, Dialga, Kyogre,(AC) and Lugia.
