Hunter x Hunter (spoilers ITT)

I just finished the anime. It was indeed excellent. A few notes from me:

- Alluka is an awesome character and I am disappointed they were introduced at the very end. Are they actually a child of the Zoldyck family? There were a few lines suggesting Alluka "came from elsewhere." Killua commanded Alluka to not grant wishes for anyone else--does that actually work? So Alluka can meet other people and won't make requests of them? Or, if Alluka starts making requests, can Killua tell them to cut it out? Is "Something" a demon? An entity made of Nen?

In the anime, when silva said "alluka is not from our world", it showed the ceiling with those cocoon-things, maybe it has to do with alluka

Btw the chapter after the end of the anime http://www.mangareader.net/hunter-x-hunter/340

Just started watching this on Netflix because of this thread and my brother keeps telling me to watch it. My brother did warn me the first season is a bit slow compared to the others so we'll see how it goes.

Currently on episode 20 with the 9 man tournament at the end of the Exam. Loved the whole thing with Gon and the ninja.

Hisoka is a really creepy dude but makes for a good villain, can't wait to see if they ever end up really fighting with him.

Also can't wait to see what's really up with Killua and if Kurapika or Leorio ever turn out to be not useless.

Pretty good show overall so far, the music is astounding, and the characters are decent.

Don't know how I feel about this whole Nen and Ten thing... I liked the show thinking it was gonna be like, idk, just really strong humans and crazy monsters and stuff. Now there's actually a super power that only the elite are really aware of but then there's a guy that can control tops with his mind and the crowd knows he's using Nen? idk

I will say I really like the whole thing with Killua and love his character so far.

I know exactly how you feel, I usually hate when they introduce new power concepts midway through but Nen is done really well after the initial explanation phase and will surely grow on you.

k been bingewatching this like a motherfucker and am just starting the Chimera Ant arc

I'm more ok with the whole Nen thing than I was when they first started talking about it, still think the show would have been interesting without it.

Really liked the whole Shadow Troupe/Kurapika arc, personally unhappy he didn't get to exact his revenge as they were making out like he would, but I think they pulled off the story and character development OK in the end. Just kinda upsetting jumping from Kurapika not getting to do that to Gon and Killua jumping into Greed Island. It was almost too abrupt for me. Everything with Uvo was really well done though and showed off Kurapika quite well. RIP Shadow Beasts.

Upset I didn't really get to see Bisky fight yet, her power is hilarious, also upset I haven't seen hardly any of the Troupe's powers.

Hisoka just keeps getting better holy shit rofl. SCHWING

If the show ends with Gon unable to meet his dad imma punch a ho

One thing that bothers me with the show all around is having Killua ignorant of Nen altogether when his parents are apparent masters of it. With all the torture training they put him through you'd think they would have had him focus on it from the beginning...

OK finished the anime

I will say for as long as the Chimera Ant arc dragged on for, at least they ended the arc well. I wanted to kill Pouf more than I wanted to see Pitou die, glad I got both in the end. The whole fight scene with the chairman was really good, it was too bad most of the fight scenes for this arc weren't even moderately close to that level. Like not even the fights with the Royal Guard were that exciting, though Gon going Super Saiyan and annihilating Pitou was oh so satisfying. Was pretty disappointed that Reinu and Colt weren't reunited too.

Loved the last arc and I wish they used the pace they set with it for the rest of the show. chaos @ the gender-ambiguity of Allukata, she was definitely a she, it was just a mistranslation for "it" into "him" I believe. I was really confused by that too but I know other languages give gender-assignment to all objects (French does for example) so Japanese probably does to, meaning when they were calling her "it" in Japanese the hard translation was to "him" in English. Though ya I'd agree that most of the Specialists were pretty androgynous for the most part.

The resolution for the show was really well done imo. The ending scene with Gon and Ging was fantastic. The montage at the end was also really nice to see, also was nice to get confirmation on what Kurapika had been up to. I don't think they needed to bring up Hisoka or Illumi in the end because we know their motivations and they haven't changed. Would have been nice if the show could keep going so that Gon and Hisoka could fight one last time but oh well.

alluka is physically male but identifies as girl (gender vs sex). all zoldyck children are male. it was not a mistranslation, the reason killua refers to alluka as she is because of the bond they share, killua treats her as she wants to be treated.

The anime is over, not the manga, the new arc, Dark continent, has just started, that's why there is no anime atm, the arc is supposed to be bigger than chimera ant(togashi wrote chimera ant in 9 years so...).. Togashi said he did only half his story.

yeah I agree, given how hard they hyped the powers of the royal guard, i was really disappointed by the battles themselves. like, what's his face with the hide n seek power was having a panic attack & lost all his hair just at encountering pitou's aura, and then you don't actually see her in legit combat ever? pouf escapes his battle with smoke dude and doesn't ever fight afterwards? youpi's fight ends with "ah well you can live its all good bros"?

also i said this before but it should have been like kurapika to die by pitou's hand. he doesn't do shit after his arc anyway and i might have believed gon's random super saiyan transformation if he died. that's the thing about emotional deaths: it actually has to be someone you've spent time with in the story. you can't just introduce someone randomly and kill them off

In the manga, kite is the reason gon became a hunter, chaos

It was a failing of the anime to not explain their relAtionship more. As far as fights, kurupika actually is a big part of the next arc and the royal guards weren't underwhelming. Youpi destroyed knuckles and shoot, Poitou destroyed kite (who was a nen master, look at his en range), and pouf had other shit to do.

Hxh is cool because it doesn't follow tropes of here is every baddie losing before we move to the next one. Instead the characters all have different motivations and stories

Also I think knob lost his composure vs poufs aura and not pitous. The difference being hers is malice, his is misfortune

Just reiterating what kd said:

Allluka is biologically male but identifies as a female. There is no mistranslation.
Kite is the reason Gon decided to be a hunter. I'd recommend reading chapter 1 of the manga or watching episode 1 of the 1999 version for a better explanation.
Knov became that way due to Pouf's "misfortune" aura, not Pitou's "malice." He was in a state of zetsu so that he could conceal his presence, but a downside of zetsu is that you are more susceptible to the aura of others.

On the topic of Pitou, I don't understand the complaints. She is a member of the royal guard and therefore always has the best interest of the king in mind. She killed Kite but afterwards had to protect Komugi because that was what Mereum wanted. Gon vs Pitou was supposed to be as one sided as virtually every other fight in the arc. She even mentioned that his transformation from his rage put him on a level as high as the king. Again, the 2011 anime did a poor job at explaining his relationship with Kite, so it's understandable that it would seem weird for Gon to lose control after some dude he knew for 2 weeks died.

I actually really liked the SEVERAL times Youpi was attacked and how his opponents changed every two months haha. Especially the Killua moment

what is wrong you? Kurapika is perfect.

Just finished the Anime.

People calling the Chimera Ant arc bad/"meh" are idiots. This has got to be one of the most tremendous stories ever told using the medium. Meruem is a villain with so many layers of deconstructed storytelling that I don't even know where I could possibly begin. Kind of Ironic from something that I basically expected to be a cheap Perfect Cell ripoff.

I hate Dragon Ball for setting the industry expectation that some epic arc is basically a massive set-up for some hackneyed mega-fuckall fight that is between the two most obvious characters concluding the arc (which is basically all of your complaints).
I know most of you expected Gon to hit Super Saiyan and Kick massive ass with Killua. Fuck You. No. Just rewatch DBZ.

Also holy shit, Kurapika is basically the inspiration for that gay (BAN ME PLEASE) Sasuke prototype. "oh-im-so-cool-but-problems-fuck-you-all" anti-hero... thank god we didn't have 110 flashbacks of the UchihaKurta clan massacre.
