Noivern @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Air Slash
- Switcheroo
- U-turn

Switch in on any move that isn't stone edge or ice punch, avoid confusion from dynamic punch, ko in return with air slash:

252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Air Slash vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Machamp: 344-408 (100 - 118.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

If it's carrying bullet punch then you can't check it after rocks, and knock off has a small chance to OHKO after rocks (~35%) but otherwise you're fine. You can also always revenge it with air slash and if you're given a free switch in you beat it 100% (which is the definition of a check (ok it's 95% cause air slash is slightly inaccurate for no fucking reason)).

Toxicroak (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance

Physically defencive toxicroak is probably pretty bad, but it appears to counter machamp unless it gets a lot of hax. Gunk Shot 2hkos, and drain punch is for recovery outside of leftovers. Swords dance turns the 2hko into a ohko. Choice band close combat has a 1/10 chance to 2hko after rocks, but with drain punch and lefties, its always a 3hko
Calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Toxicroak: 152-179 (41 - 48.3%) -- 9.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
4 Atk Toxicroak Gunk Shot vs. 92 HP / 0 Def Machamp: 165-195 (47.9 - 56.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 4 Atk Toxicroak Gunk Shot vs. 92 HP / 0 Def Machamp: 328-387 (95.3 - 112.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Cresselia @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonlight
- Psyshock
- Moonblast

EVs creep on 0/4 Speed Rotom-H/C, defensive investment lets you always live 2 Knock Offs from full, letting you heal against Machamp or just 2HKO after a Calm Mind boost with Psyshock, or before with a little prior damage. Switching in on anything but Knock Off means you pretty much wreck it. Otherwise, watch out for Guts Knock Offs.

252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Dynamic Punch vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Cresselia: 86-102 (19.3 - 22.9%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Cresselia: 103-122 (23.1 - 27.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Cresselia: 224-264 (50.4 - 59.4%) -- 80.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Cresselia: 115-136 (25.9 - 30.6%) -- 3.2% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Cresselia: 46-55 (10.3 - 12.3%) -- possibly the worst move ever

0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 92 HP / 0 Def Machamp: 164-194 (47.6 - 56.3%) -- 84.8% chance to 2HKO

I kinda agree with Canasian in that trying to wall both No Guard and Guts is kinda shitty, and we also all get the everloving shit ninja'd out of us by one of our Incredibly Based UU Co-Leaders fucking nine minutes into the week. But yeah, I think this set is one of the closer things to a true counter, the ONLY thing that can reliably 2HKO it from Machamp is a Guts-boosted Knock Off, which is extremely uncommon.

Alakazam as a check.

Alakazam @

Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Signal Beam
- Hidden Power Fire

Thanks to Focus Sash, Alakazam can manually enter into battle against Machamp. Afterwards, it can force it out or outright KO it with Psyshock:

252 SpA Alakazam Psyshock vs. 92 HP / 0 Def Machamp: 324-384 (101.1 - 119.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The reason why I didn't list it as a counter is because:

252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Dynamic Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 252-297 (100 - 117.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

If Machamp gets lucky with a confusion hax, say bye-bye to Zam as it will break through the Sash. But overall, it can still get the job done.

Check

Crobat @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 232 HP / 100 Atk / 176 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Taunt
- Roost

Can switch in on CC/Dynamic punch and brush off confuse in a 1vs1 situation. Very unlikely that Machamp can pull a victory on this condition alone, as D-punch is 9-ko w/out confuse.

Survives Knock off w/ stealth rocks and wins 1vs1: 252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Crobat: 209-247 (56.6 - 66.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

Bullet punch does nothing... 252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Bullet Punch vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Crobat: 87-103 (23.5 - 27.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

Reason why check: can't deal with Ice punch/stone edge
  • 252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Ice Punch vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Crobat: 324-382 (87.8 - 103.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
  • 252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Stone Edge vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Crobat: 432-510 (117 - 138.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Also important to note, unfortunately:
+1 (guts) 252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Crobat: 314-370 (85 - 100.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

More or less, this is a reasonable check to Machamp, both standard and used in the current metagame.

Stallbreaker Crobat to da rescue! Excellent stallbreaker and 'mon in general, and as long as it doesn't switch right into a Stone Edge or an Ice Punch... It'll do just fine here. Any prior damage on Machamp will increase the chance of being KO'd by Crobat (but again, I guess it works the other way around too.)

Doublade @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Sacred Sword
- Shadow Sneak

Doublade is a fantastic check to CB Machamp, switching into 3/4 of its moveset with impunity while in return Iron Head is a 2HKO with a little prior damage. The only thing it must watch out for is Knock Off which is a clean 2HKO. Machamp's most power alternative against Doublade is Heavy Slam which does a max of 18.8%, so apart from checking it Doublade can also easily take advantage of a choice-locked Machamp to Swords Dance up and attempt a sweep.

Calcs:

252+ Atk Choice Band Machamp Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 51-60 (15.9 - 18.8%) -- possible 6HKO

Take a hit, OHKO/2HKO it with Counter, simple as that. Dynamic Punch confusion+low rolls can potentially screw it up if machamp gets really lucky, but you'll probably still win. Tickle/Charm to hurt the switchin (because no shadow tag lol) and splash because you're using telepathy wobbuffet and might as well

Zzzzz...Top 3 Checks/Counters for Machamp have been chosen this week (no specific order):

Top 3 Counters:

Granbull - Calloflochie
Cresselia - Lord of Bays
Slowking - canasian (I really shouldn't take this one against my better judgment but I'm gonna do it since phys. Def Slowking is actually a thing, and that once an item is removed, Regenerator allows Slowking to repeatedly come in on Machamp. Own Tempo + Colbur Berry just makes it easier on the initial call to deal with both sets)

Top 3 Checks:

Alakazam - TrulyDevious
Crobat - dingbat
Doublade - IronBullet93

OP will be updated accordingly. This time I'm not gonna do anything overly difficult, not gonna plague you guys by unwittingly making something nearly impossible to counter by conventional means, and I'm not gonna slip some BS move into its movepool. Gonna just keep it real and simple:

Set name: Nasty Plot Azelf
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Psyshock
move 2: Fire Blast
move 3: Dazzling Gleam
move 4: Nasty Plot
ability: Levitate
item: Life Orb
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Hopefully the next time I update this I won't wait 3 days longer than I'm actually supposed to...

This is probably one of the stranger counters you'll see, as I've attempted to maximize the overall utility of Empoleon which has produced... an interesting set to say the least.

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Atk / 96 Def / 92 SpD / 8 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Knock Off
- Hydro Pump
- Grass Knot
- Aqua Jet

Switching in on Azelf at Neutral:
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 96 Def Empoleon: 82-97 (22 - 26%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 92 SpD Empoleon: 138-162 (37 - 43.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Switching in as Azelf uses Nasty plot (1vs1 situation):

  • +2 252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 96 Def Empoleon: 165-195 (44.3 - 52.4%) -- 19.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
  • +2 252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 92 SpD Empoleon: 274-324 (73.6 - 87%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery BUT...
  • 60 Atk Empoleon Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azelf: 178-210 (61.1 - 72.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO +
  • 60 Atk Empoleon Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azelf: 55-66 (18.9 - 22.6%) -- possible 5HKO
    Empoleon wins (LO recoil)

if Azelf is already at +2 and Empoleon switches into anything but Dazzling Gleam, there's a good chance Empoleon will lose (85% Fireblast). There is no way to avoid this given Empoleon's stat distribution. As a result, giving Empoleon a quiet nature ensures that it can do the same amount of damage to Azelf with Hydro pump, and possibly predict a switch. The dualism in knock off/hydro pump + grass knot give it a good edge over pokes like Swampert. Feel free to use scald instead for more utility.

252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Krookodile: 204-240 (61.6 - 72.5%)
252 Atk Krookodile Pursuit (on switch) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azelf: 326-386 (112 - 132.6%)
252 Atk Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azelf: 396-468 (136 - 160.8%)

Easy, come in on Psyshock, Nasty Plot, or even Fire Blast and proceed to either go right for the Knock Off and nab a free boost or Pursuit if you feel they're going to switch.

Slower Pokemon get absoluted raped by this thing so I decided I would use a faster Pokemon :] Mega Aero switches into any of Azelf's moves, outspeeds and KOes with Crunch or can Roost off the damage if you think Azelf is going to switch. So idk I spose that counts as a counter? W/e if it isn't classed as a counter it is the best possible check available. Super simple stuff :]

252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Aerodactyl: 188-224 (51.7 - 61.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Mega Aerodactyl: 79-94 (21.7 - 25.8%) -- 1.8% chance to 4HKO

124 Atk Tough Claws Mega Aerodactyl Crunch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azelf: 292-344 (100.3 - 118.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO Bop

Houndoom is a decent check to azelf in that if you're given a free switch into it you just kill it with dark pulse while the best thing it can do to you is:

252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Houndoom: 121-143 (41.5 - 49.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

You can probably compromise some speed for some spdef so you're guarranteed not to be 2hko'd after rocks but then you're a pretty shitty houndoom set so I haven't done that. If you're running Flame charge then you can fire one off while it takes you to ~50% then dark pulse to kill with a set up houndoom, but if you aren't you can actually deal with hydreigon.

If it sets up an np as you switch in then you get cleanly ohko'd after rocks or if they predict you with dgleam and you aren't mega'd you'll get 2hko'd by it (and if you are mega'd it's a 50/50) but standard houndoom can switch into psyshock or flamethrower easily.

This is pretty much one of Chandy's standard sets. It literally eats up Fire Blasts and Dazzling Gleams, while it can stomach a Psyshock, assuming no rocks are up.

I lied. Going Honchkrow now as a check.

Honchkrow @ Life Orb
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Sucker Punch is obviously a super easy OHKO, so is Brave Bird. If he tries to game your Sucker Punches with Nasty Plot, like I said Brave Bird OHKOs, Pursuit has a chance to OHKO after Rocks/one round of Life Orb recoil. Once he falls below 83%, Pursuit OHKOs. This is not a Pokemon for the faint of heart to use, since Dazzling Gleam OHKOs you like twice over, but Moxiekrow is one of the best late-game sweepers in UU, so if you play it properly (pro-tip, he's more likely to switch out early in the game) you can pretty easily get a clean sweep.

Porygon2 is one of the few disgustingly bulky Pokemon that doesn't fold like a cheap tent against a boosted Azelf. The premise is simple: it can come in and take any +2 hits and threaten a OHKO.

252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Porygon2: 121-144 (32.3 - 38.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Dazzling Gleam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 78-92 (20.8 - 24.5%) -- 90.7% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Analytic Porygon2 Tri Attack vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azelf: 214-253 (73.5 - 86.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Analytic Porygon2 Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azelf: 286-338 (98.2 - 116.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

Take note though that Tri Attack doesn't guarantee a KO even after Azelf's Life Orb recoil (disregarding rocks or any form of prior damage) so Shadow Ball is slashed, serving as a reliable way to cleanly dispatch the threat. You lose out on the famed BoltBeam combo but it does offer decent coverage, letting you hit Chandy and some Psychics (Alakazam, Jirachi) much harder.

You can switch this thing in on a nasty plot and KO with Foul play (but dont switch it in after it got up a NP) and also has good utility for the team. still also gets 3HKO'd by +0 dazzling gleam, at +2 it takes 79% at most and can KO with Foul play (and can also switch in on psyshock)

i hope that i picked something good this week.

Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe,-Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Flamethrower
- U-turn

Has to watch out for Dazzling Gleam but switches in freely on Psyshock and takes little from Fire Blast. Once in it easily outspeeds and OHKOs with Dark Pulse or Draco Meteor. If you predict a switch, you can use U-turn instead to gain momentum for the team.

Calcs:

252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Hydreigon: 82-97 (25.2 - 29.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Hydreigon: 484-572 (148.9 - 176%) -- guaranteed OHKO

In return:

252 SpA Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azelf: 338-402 (116.1 - 138.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azelf: 276-325 (94.8 - 111.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
