Project Counter that Threat! 21st Week: Snover - Counters Submissions

Both Eren Yeagar and Tahu won; both sets were nice. Anyways for this week we have:

Croagunk @ Eviolite
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 132 HP / 28 Atk / 116 Def / 108 SpA / 116 SpD
Quiet Nature
- Drain Punch
- Sludge Bomb
- Vacuum Wave
- Knock Off

Submitting ends in Monday 27th October.

Hippopotas (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: Sand Stream
Level: 5
EVs: 212 HP / 20 Atk / 212 Def / 20 SpD / 20 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Tomb
- Slack Off

Hippo can switch into any attack easily and does alot of damage back with earthquake. Slack off gives it recovery, letting it switch in multiple times. Sand damage is also good for wearing down croagunk.

Calcs:
108+ SpA Croagunk Vacuum Wave vs. 212 HP / 20 SpD Eviolite Hippopotas: 6-7 (23 - 26.9%) -- 22.8% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
108+ SpA Croagunk Vacuum Wave vs. 212 HP / 20 SpD Hippopotas: 7-9 (26.9 - 34.6%) -- 1.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock (no eviolite)
20 Atk Hippopotas Earthquake vs. 132 HP / 116 Def Eviolite Croagunk: 18-24 (78.2 - 104.3%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO (better chance with sand damage)

Drilbur @ Eviolite
Ability: Mold Breaker
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 212 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock

Drilbur can come in on any one of Croagunk's attacks pretty well and can strike back with a powerful STAB Earthquake to OHKO it.

28 Atk Croagunk Drain Punch vs. 36 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Drilbur: 7-10 (30.4 - 43.4%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

108+ SpA Croagunk Sludge Bomb vs. 36 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Drilbur: 4-6 (17.3 - 26%) -- 1.4% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock

108+ SpA Croagunk Vacuum Wave vs. 36 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Drilbur: 6-7 (26 - 30.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock

28 Atk Croagunk Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 36 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Drilbur: 6-8 (26 - 34.7%) -- 11.7% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

236 Atk Mold Breaker Drilbur Earthquake vs. 132 HP / 116 Def Eviolite Croagunk: 24-30 (104.3 - 130.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Vacuum Wave with no Eviolite:
108+ SpA Croagunk Vacuum Wave vs. 36 HP / 0 SpD Drilbur: 7-9 (30.4 - 39.1%) -- 17.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Vullaby @ Eviolite
Ability: Overcoat
Level: 5
EVs: 116 HP / 236 Def / 76 SDef / 36 Spe
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Knock Off
- Brave Bird

That's classic Defog Vullaby's set. Vullaby can switch in on Croagunk and hits it with Brave Bird. Too easy to do it for "little buzzard".

0 Atk Vullaby Brave Bird vs. 132 HP / 116 Def Eviolite Croagunk: 18-24 (78.2 - 104.3%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
28 Atk Croagunk Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 116 HP / 236+ Def Eviolite Vullaby: 2-2 (8 - 8%)
108+ SpA Croagunk Vacuum Wave vs. 116 HP / 76 SpD Vullaby: 6-7 (24 - 28%) -- 22.8% chance to 4HKO
108+ SpA Croagunk Vacuum Wave vs. 116 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Vullaby: 4-6 (16 - 24%) -- possible 5HKO
108+ SpA Croagunk Sludge Bomb vs. 116 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Vullaby: 7-10 (28 - 40%) -- 98.9% chance to 3HKO
108+ SpA Croagunk Sludge Bomb vs. 116 HP / 76 SpD Vullaby: 10-13 (40 - 52%) -- 9% chance to 2HKO
28 Atk Croagunk Drain Punch vs. 116 HP / 236+ Def Vullaby: 7-9 (28 - 36%) -- 1.1% chance to 3HKO
28 Atk Croagunk Drain Punch vs. 116 HP / 236+ Def Eviolite Vullaby: 4-6 (16 - 24%) -- possible 5HKO

Shellos @ Eviolite
Trait: Sticky Hold
Nature: Bold
Evs: 228 Hp / 132 Def / 100 SpD / 4 Spe
- Scald
- Earth Power
- Recover
- Yawn
Shellos takes nothing from Crogunk, Sludge Bomb is 37% max, and kills it (eventually) with Earth Power. This is better than all of the other counters because it isn't crippled by a Knock Off so it can be used later in the game as well

Trubbish @ Berry Juice
Ability: Sticky Hold
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 132 Def / 180 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch
- Recycle

Trubbish handles all of Croagunk's moves very well, can't be knocked off, heals off any damage with BJ+recycle, and sets up Curses as a bonus. The standard spikes set can beat it after like 5000 turns of BJ+recycle bullshit, but the Curse set beats it a little quicker and actually lets Trubbish pose a legitimate offensive threat. Pair Trubbish with a Pursuit trapper like Pawniard, since Trubbish can't touch Gastly and is easily revenged by Abra (you could run payback, but it loses out on the overall better coverage offered by Poison+Fighting).

28 Atk Croagunk Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 132 Def Trubbish: 3-5 (14.2 - 23.8%) -- possible 5HKO
108+ SpA Croagunk Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 180+ SpD Trubbish: 4-6 (19 - 28.5%) -- 12.6% chance to 4HKO
108+ SpA Croagunk Vacuum Wave vs. 0 HP / 180+ SpD Trubbish: 3-3 (14.2 - 14.2%) -- guaranteed 7HKO
28 Atk Croagunk Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 132 Def Trubbish: 7-9 (33.3 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

I won't bother with calcs for Curse defense boosts, since Trubbish obviously takes even less damage, but I'll put this

+3 196 Atk Trubbish Gunk Shot vs. 132 HP / 116 Def Eviolite Croagunk: 12-15 (52.1 - 65.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Set up to +3 before attacking so you don't have to waste Gunk Shot PP.

Countering Gunk with Gunk is a cool thing and imma tell you why. Gunk gives no fucks about himself.

28 Atk Croagunk Drain Punch vs. 52 HP / 116 Def Eviolite Croagunk: 3-4 (13.6 - 18.1%) -- possible 6HKO

Shrug the key point being it's not able to be knocked off, I think the set is way more viable than the Trubbish one.

Melon

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Jac's Croagunk because using the victim to beat itself is cool, and EQ Gunk is real as hell

Eren Yeager + drilbur

Reasoning: croagunk has knock off and sludge bomb, both crippling moves, removing items, or having a 30% chance to poison. Whilst stuff like hippo, vullaby and shellos are good walls for gunk, being poisoned will ruin their effectiveness as a wall later on in the match. Being a more offensive pokemon, drilbur cares about being poisoned less, and doesn't need it's eviolite as much as the other mons. Trubbish is immune to both these things, but the set kind of sucks.

So yeah Shrug won:

This week's victim is a hyped threat that is:

Shellder @ Eviolite
Ability: Skill Link
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 76 SpD / 196 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Razor Shell

Reserving Ferroseed

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
Level: 5
EVs: 244 HP / 188 Def / 4 SpA / 68 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Iron Head
- Thunder Wave
- Spikes

4 SpA Ferroseed Giga Drain vs. -1 36 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Shellder: 18-24 (90 - 120%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
4 SpA Ferroseed Giga Drain vs. 76 HP / 0 SpD Chinchou: 14-18 (56 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
and ofc it kills tirt and Omanyte.

Ferroseed is one of the few pokemon that has almost nothing to fear from Shellder and other Shell Smashers. With a mere 4 Evs in Special Attack, Ferroseed is capable of demolishing Shellder, healing a substantial amount of health back. Other Pokemon such as Spritzee, Omanyte, and Tirtouga can only feel small in comparison as they are drained away. I've always been an advocate of two attack Ferroseed, simply for the amount of Pokemon it can check. However, I find myself now leaning towards Giga Drain as I've realized it adds one more checked Pokemon to Ferroseed's list.

Magnemite @ Berry Juice
Ability: Sturdy
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 236 SpA / 236 Spe
Modest Nature
- Endure
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon

Magnemite can switch on all the Shellder's moves without taking too much damage

Chinchou @ Berry Juice
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 76 HP/ 212 def/ 148 SpD / 60 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt switch
- scald
- hp ground/ ice beam
- heal bell

I don't think this needs calves or anything chinch just comes in, survives, and uses volt switch
