Overview
########
  • Secondary Ground typing sets it apart from other Grass-types
  • Great offensive presence and overall bulk
  • Movepool includes good offensive and support options that allow it to effectively function as a late-game sweeper, a tank or a wallbreaker
  • Resists EdgeQuake coverage combination and has an immunity to Electric-type moves
  • Weaknesses to common attacking types in combination with a poor Speed stat means that it is often forced to switch out
Rock Polish
########
name: Rock Polish
move 1: Rock Polish
move 2: Wood Hammer
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stone Edge
ability: Overgrow
item: Life Orb
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly

Moves
========
  • Rock Polish boosts Torterra's Speed to levels where it is capable of sweeping.
  • Wood Hammer is your go-to for STAB thanks to its great Base Power.
  • Earthquake is another STAB move that nails the Fire- and Steel-types that resist Wood Hammer.
  • Stone Edge offers valuable coverage against Flying-types, which resist Torterra's dual STAB combination.
Set Details
========
  • Attack and Speed investment is maximized to ensure that Torterra's damage output and Speed are as high as they possibly can be.
  • A Jolly nature boosts Torterra's Speed to levels where it is capable of outspeeding minimum Speed Golbat, max Speed Modest Clawitzer, max Speed Timid Omastar, Max Speed Adamant/Naughty/Rash Emboar and Minimum Speed Drapion from the get-go. After a Rock Polish boost, Jolly Torterra outpaces Choice Scarf Braviary, Choice Scarf Rotom-C, +1 Adamant/Modest Sharpedo, and most importantly, Choice Scarf variants of Moltres.
  • Life Orb boosts the power of Torterra's attacks, allowing it to nab KOs with extra ease. However, Earth Plate, Meadow Plate and Leftovers are worthy of consideration for their respective boosts and recovery should you deem Life Orb recoil undesirable.
  • Overgrow boosts the power of Wood Hammer when Torterra's health is dwindling, meaning that it can deliver a final powerful blow before it faints.
Usage Tips
========
  • Torterra should use Rock Polish in an attempt to sweep late-game once its checks and counters have been eliminated or weakened.
  • Set up with Rock Polish against a Pokemon that it forces out.
  • Torterra can attempt to wear its checks and counters down early-game, switch out, and then return late-game in order to sweep with Rock Polish.
Team Options
========
  • Teammates capable of dispatching Tangrowth are mandatory; Moltres, Delphox and Escavalier can do this easily.
  • A bulky Water-type ally such as Slowking or Alomomola can dispose of troublesome Fire-types and sponge Ice-type attacks too.
  • Toxic Spikes support can wear down Torterra's checks and counters to give it an easier time KOing them. Qwilfish is an example of a Toxic Spikes user that has good synergy with Torterra.
Tank
########
name: Tank
move 1: Wood Hammer
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Synthesis
ability: Overgrow
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
  • Wood Hammer is a powerful STAB choice.
  • Earthquake is a second STAB move that strikes Fire- and Steel-types hard.
  • Stealth Rock is an important entry hazard. Torterra can utilize its stellar bulk and resistances in order to set it up.
  • Synthesis restores Torterra's HP, increasing its longevity.
  • Stone Edge can replace either STAB attack in order to nail Fletchinder, which this set is setup bait for, and Moltres, which gains free switches in.
Set Details
========
  • EVs are placed into HP and Attack to up Torterra's hit-taking capability and its damage output. A more defensively-oriented EV spread is an option, but Torterra generally values the power of the given spread.
  • An Adamant nature further boosts Torterra's Attack.
  • Leftovers give Torterra passive recovery.
  • Overgrow is chosen because it boosts Wood Hammer's power when Torterra's HP is low.
Usage Tips
========
  • Torterra can force a switch against an opposing user of Stealth Rock such as Rhyperior and proceed to set up its own Stealth Rock.
  • Use Synthesis when your health is dwindling in order to be able to take your opponent's next attack.
  • Use your STAB attacks accordingly depending on which Pokemon you are against and which Pokemon you expect the opponent to bring in.
  • Unfortunately, Torterra is prone to being forced out by foes that resist its STAB combination, such as Moltres or Golbat.
Team Options
========
  • As Tangrowth is so problematic, allies that can take care of it, such as Moltres, Delphox and Escavlier are a must.
  • Bulky Water-types such as Alomomola and Slowking have good synergy with Torterra; it can take the Electric-type attacks that they dislike, while they can take Fire- and Ice-type attacks aimed at Torterra.
  • Torterra is able to KO its checks and counters more easily with the help of Toxic Spikes. Therefore, Pokemon with access to Toxic Spikes, such as Qwilfish and Drapion, make for allies worth considering.
Choice Band
########
name: Choice Band
move 1: Wood Hammer
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Crunch / Bullet Seed
ability: Overgrow
item: Choice Band
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
  • Wood Hammer is a powerful STAB move that is capable of putting the hurt on many an opponent.
  • Earthquake is a secondary STAB move that hits the Fire- and Steel-types that resist Wood Hammer for super effective damage.
  • Stone Edge's coverage is useful against Flying-types looking to switch in on a Wood Hammer or Earthquake.
  • Torterra's last move is somewhat of a filler; Crunch is useful against Gourgeist-XL and Gourgeist-S, and Bullet Seed has the ability to break through Substitutes and Focus Sashes.
Set Details
========
  • Maximum Attack and Speed investment ensures that Torterra does as much damage and outspeeds as many foes as it possibly can.
  • An Adamant nature makes Torterra pack an extra punch.
  • Choice Band is the chosen item on this set because its power boost allows Torterra to function as a powerful wallbreaker.
  • Overgrow is the ability of choice because of the boost it provides Wood Hammer with when Torterra is weakened.
Usage Tips
========
  • Torterra can find the opportunity to easily come in on an attack that it resists, such as Earthquake or Stone Edge.
  • Be wary about locking yourself into Earthquake should there be a Flying-type or a Pokemon with Levitate on the opponent's team. In a similar vein, locking yourself into Wood Hammer is risky if the opponent has a Pokemon that can safely switch into it.
  • Use Stone Edge when you predict a Flying-type switch-in, and use Crunch if the opponent has a Gourgeist-XL or Gourgeist-S.
  • Bullet Seed should be chosen when the foe has a Substitute or a Focus Sash that needs breaking.
Team Options
========
  • Teammates capable of dispatching Tangrowth are mandatory; Moltres, Delphox and Escavalier can do this easily.
  • A bulky Water-type ally such as Slowking or Alomomola can dispose of troublesome Fire-types and sponge Ice-type attacks too.
  • Entry hazards wear checks and counters to Torterra, allowing it to KO them with greater ease. An example of a hazard setter that has good synergy with Torterra is Qwilfish.
  • Due to Torterra's lacking Speed, paralysis support from an ally such as Registeel is an option, as is Trick Room support from an ally such as Bronzong. If Torterra is to be played under the effects of Trick Room, ensure that it has a Brave nature, 0 Speed EVs and 0 Speed IVs.

Other Options
########
  • Seed Bomb does not make Torterra suffer recoil unlike Wood Hammer, but the drop in power is noticeable.
  • Superpower hits Shiftry, Cacturne and the rare Ferroseed for super effective damage.
  • Toxic messes up walls trying to switch into Torterra.
  • Torterra can boost its Attack to threatening levels with Swords Dance, though it is too slow to sweep.
  • Roar phazes opponents that try to set up against Torterra.
  • Leech Seed plagues opponents with passive damage and supplies Torterra with a passive regain of health, but Torterra finds it hard to spare the moveslot.
  • A Double Dance set employing both Swords Dance and Rock Polish allows Torterra to set up depending on which type of team it is facing, but the lack of a coverage move limits this set's potential.
  • A Curse set bolsters Torterra's offensive presence and physical bulk simultaneously, but its weaknesses to common attacking types hold it back.
  • Torterra has access to Light Screen and Reflect, though Pokemon such as Cresselia and Bronzong are better dual screeners.

Checks and Counters
########
**Physical Walls**: Physically defensive behemoths such as Tangrowth and Weezing fear nothing from Torterra. These two Pokemon are particularly great answers to Torterra because they resist its STAB and take little damage from Stone Edge. Tangrowth can stall Torterra out easily enough, and Weezing can scare Torterra out with the prospect of a Flamethrower or a Will-O-Wisp.

**Fire-types**: Although somewhat scarce in number, RU's Fire-types make light work of Torterra with their STAB attacks. Choice Scarf Delphox can even outrun and revenge kill a +2 Torterra.

**Status**: Burn and poison both serve to hinder Torterra's longevity. The former reduces its damage output, rendering Torterra less of a threat.

**Flying-types**: Torterra's STAB combination provides Flying-types such as Moltres, Gligar and Braviary with switch-in opportunities, though they must be wary of taking a Stone Edge.

**Attackers with Super Effective Coverage**: Weaknesses to common attacking types such as Fire and Ice means that coverage moves such as Clawitzer's Ice Beam and Sigilyph's Heat Wave are problematic for Torterra.

Overview
########
Torterra sports great offensive presence and overall bulk, as well as a movepool including good offensive and support options such as two strong STAB moves in Wood Hammer and Earthquake, a good coverage move in Stone Edge, and a utility move in Stealth Rock. This allows Torterra to effectively function as a late-game sweeper, a tank, or a wallbreaker. Its unique typing gives it a resistance to the EdgeQuake combination and an immunity to Electric-type moves. However, weaknesses to common attacking types such as Fire, Ice, and Flying and a poor Speed stat mean that Torterra is often forced to switch out, which is never a desirable trait.

Rock Polish
########
name: Rock Polish
move 1: Rock Polish
move 2: Wood Hammer
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stone Edge
ability: Overgrow
item: Life Orb
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly

Moves
========
Rock Polish boosts Torterra's Speed, allowing it to sweep. Wood Hammer is Torterra's go-to STAB move thanks to its great Base Power, and Earthquake is a STAB move that nails Fire- and Steel-types, which resist Wood Hammer. Stone Edge offers valuable coverage against Flying-types, which do not take much damage from Torterra's STAB moves.

Set Details
========
252 Attack and Speed EVs maximize Torterra's damage output and Speed. A Jolly nature allows Torterra to outspeed minimum Speed Golbat, maximum Speed Modest Clawitzer, maximum Speed Timid Omastar, maximum Speed neutral-natured Emboar, and minimum Speed Drapion from the get-go, while Choice Scarf Braviary, Choice Scarf Rotom-C, +1 Adamant or Modest Sharpedo, and, most importantly, Choice Scarf Moltres, are outsped after a Rock Polish. Life Orb boosts the power of Torterra's attacks, allowing it to nab more KOs. However, Earth Plate, Meadow Plate, and Leftovers are worthy of consideration for their respective boosts and recovery, should you deem Life Orb recoil undesirable. Overgrow boosts the power of Wood Hammer when Torterra's health is low, meaning that it can deliver a final powerful blow before it faints.

Usage Tips
========
Torterra should use Rock Polish against a Pokemon it can force out in an attempt to sweep late-game once its checks and counters have been eliminated or weakened. Torterra can wear its checks down early-game, switch out, and return late-game to sweep with Rock Polish.

Team Options
========
Torterra appreciates teammates that are capable of luring and defeating Tangrowth, such as Ice Beam Sharpedo and Choice Band Rhyperior; the former can take on Fire- and Ice-types for Tangrowth to an extent, while the latter works wonders against Fire- and Flying-types. A bulky Water-type such as Slowking or Alomomola can dispose of troublesome Fire-types and sponge Ice-type attacks. Toxic Spikes support can wear down Torterra's checks and counters to give it an easier time KOing them. Drapion can set up Toxic Spikes, while Torterra covers its weakness to Ground.

Tank
########
name: Tank
move 1: Wood Hammer
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Synthesis
ability: Shell Armor
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
Wood Hammer is a powerful STAB move, and Earthquake is a secondary STAB move that strikes Fire- and Steel-types hard. Stealth Rock is an important entry hazard, and Torterra can utilize its stellar bulk and resistances in order to set it up. Synthesis restores Torterra's HP, increasing its longevity. Stone Edge can replace either STAB attack in order to nail Fletchinder—, which this set rendered setup bait by, and Moltres, which gains free switch-ins.

Set Details
========
The EVs are placed into HP and Attack to increase Torterra's walling capability and damage output, and an Adamant nature further boosts Torterra's Attack. A more defensively-oriented EV spread is an option, but Torterra generally values the power of the given spread. Leftovers give Torterra passive recovery. As this set is meant to take hits, it lacks the Speed to get off a last hit in most cases, so Shell Armor is chosen rather than Overgrow.

Usage Tips
========
Torterra can force a switch against an opposing user of Stealth Rock, such as Rhyperior, and proceed to set up its own Stealth Rock. Use Synthesis when Torterra's health is getting low in order to be able to take your opponent's next attack. Use Torterra's STAB attacks accordingly depending on which Pokemon it is against and which Pokemon you expect the opponent to bring in. Torterra can afford to suffer recoil damage from Wood Hammer when its walling capabilities aren't needed. Unfortunately, Torterra is prone to being forced out by foes that resist its STAB combination, such as Moltres and Golbat.

Team Options
========
This set values teammates that can patch up Torterra's defensive holes. Bulky Water-types such as Alomomola and Slowking have good synergy with Torterra; it can take the Electric-type attacks that they dislike, while they can take Fire- and Ice-type attacks aimed at Torterra. Bear in mind, however, that Electric-types often have coverage attacks to hit Ground-types such as Torterra. Steel-types such as Registeel and Bronzong also can help to cover Torterra's weaknesses to Flying, Bug, and Ice, or just Flying and Ice, in Bronzong's case. Notably, Steel-types are capable of beating Mega Abomasnow, which walls Torterra's STAB combination and can set up on it, potentially becoming a huge nuisance to the rest of your team.

Choice Band
########
name: Choice Band
move 1: Wood Hammer
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Crunch / Bullet Seed
ability: Overgrow
item: Choice Band
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
Wood Hammer is a powerful STAB move that is capable of KOing or heavily damaging many foes. Earthquake is a secondary STAB move that hits Fire- and Steel-types, which resist Wood Hammer, for super effective damage. Stone Edge's coverage is useful against Flying-types looking to switch in on a Wood Hammer or Earthquake. Torterra's last move is a toss-up: Crunch is useful against Bronzong and the Gourgeist formes, while Bullet Seed has the ability to break through Substitutes and Focus Sashes.

Set Details
========
Maximum Attack and Speed investment ensures that Torterra does as much damage and outspeeds as many foes as it possibly can. An Adamant nature lets Torterra pack an extra punch. Choice Band's power boost allows Torterra to function as a powerful wallbreaker, and Overgrow gives Wood Hammer a boost when Torterra is weakened.

Usage Tips
========
Torterra can easily switch in on an attack that it resists, such as Earthquake or Stone Edge. Be wary about locking yourself into Earthquake should there be a Flying-type or a Pokemon with Levitate on the opponent's team. In a similar vein, locking yourself into Wood Hammer is risky if the opponent has a Pokemon that can safely switch into it. Use Stone Edge when you predict a Flying-type switch-in, and use Crunch when predicting the opponent to switch Bronzong, Gourgeist-XL, or Gourgeist-S in. Bullet Seed should be chosen when the foe has a Substitute or a Focus Sash that need to be broken; however, take caution when locking Torterra into the move, as for longer one-on-one scenarios, Wood Hammer and Earthquake's consistency and strength are more important.

Team Options
========
Teammates capable of dealing with Tangrowth are mandatory; Pokemon such as Ice Beam Sharpedo and Choice Band Rhyperior are generally effective Tangrowth lures. A bulky Water-type teammate such as Slowking or Alomomola can dispose of troublesome Fire-types and sponge Ice-type attacks. Entry hazards wear down checks and counters to Torterra, allowing it to KO them with greater ease. Examples of entry hazard setters are Omastar and Qwilfish. Due to Torterra's mediocre Speed stat, paralysis support from a teammate such as Registeel is an option, as is Trick Room support from a teammate such as Bronzong. If Torterra is to be played under the effects of Trick Room, ensure that it has a Brave nature, investment in HP, 0 Speed EVs, and 0 Speed IVs.

Other Options
########
Seed Bomb does not make Torterra suffer recoil, unlike Wood Hammer, but the drop in power is noticeable. Superpower hits Shiftry, Cacturne, and the rare Ferroseed for super effective damage. Toxic wears down walls trying to switch into Torterra. Torterra can boost its Attack to threatening levels with Swords Dance, though it is too slow to sweep. Roar phazes opponents that try to set up against Torterra. Leech Seed plagues opponents with passive damage and supplies Torterra with a source of passive recovery, but Torterra finds it hard to find a moveslot for it. A Double Dance set employing both Swords Dance and Rock Polish allows Torterra to set up depending on which type of team it is facing, but the lack of a coverage move limits this set's potential. A Curse set bolsters Torterra's offensive presence and physical bulk simultaneously, but its weaknesses to common attacking types hold it back. Torterra has access to Light Screen and Reflect, though Pokemon like Cresselia and Bronzong are better dual screen users.

Checks and Counters
########
**Physical Walls**: Physical walls such as Tangrowth and Weezing fear nothing from Torterra. These two Pokemon are particularly great answers to Torterra because they wall its STAB combination and take little damage from a neutral Stone Edge due to their great physical bulk. Tangrowth can stall Torterra out easily, while Weezing can dish out a Flamethrower or a Will-O-Wisp.

**Fire-types**: Although they are relatively uncommon, Fire-types make light work of Torterra with their STAB attacks. Although they cannot switch in safely on Earthquake or Stone Edge, they act as great revenge killers.

**Status**: Burn and poison both hinder Torterra's longevity. The former halves its damage output, rendering Torterra much less of a threat.

**Flying-types**: Torterra's STAB combination provides Flying-types, such as Moltres, Gligar, and Braviary, with switch-in opportunities, though all of them, excluding Gligar, must be wary of taking a Stone Edge.

**Super Effective moves**: Weaknesses to common attacking types such as Fire and Ice means that coverage moves such as Clawitzer's Ice Beam and Exploud's Fire Blast are problematic for Torterra.

Banned deucer.
So, bullet seed's great for omastar, i'd mention that too

I've seen this a lot recently-is there another pokemon 'such as' shiftry in ru, i.e. that takes your stabs and isn't weak to stone edge but totally crumples to superpower? Really, it's just cacturne, so you could just say that.

Also superpower nails ferroseed (and mega aboma/other ices, not sure if those are worth the mention given stone edge

Uh, sorry, i didn't mean superpower was OO worthy, just that you should say Shiftry+Cacturne.

Really the entire last slot is just the OO variety hour so nbd

Also idk if ferro is that irrelevant, guess it can't do much back (nice to kill it so you can spam wood hammer tho)

Ferro is super irrelevant. between the rise of all the great fire and fighting types, the steel nerf, and knock off crippling it there is like no reason to bring a ferroseed on your team anymore.

Sorry for short post but the point of double dancing isn't to set up both boosts but rather boosting based on the type of team you are facing. Swords dance for stall and rock polish for offense.

I don't think you should mention that Bullet Seed helps with Omastar on the Choice Band set - while it *does* KO it even with its sash intact, you're outsped(nearly every Omastar is Timid, this set is running Adamant) and KOed by Ice Beam.

Altered the description of Double Dance in OO and removed Omastar mention :]
Gonna try and flesh out this skeleton some more tomorrow.

A jolly nature should at the very least be a secondary slash on the Rock Polish set imo, running a Jolly Nature actually lets Torterra outrun quite a few notable targets both before and after setting up :x.

Unboosted, Jolly Torterra is capable of outspeeding min Speed Golbat (2HKO with Life Orb Stone Edge after rocks/a bit of prior damage, you can nail it on the switch pretty easily). Max Speed Modest Clawitzer (OHKO with Wood Hammer) Max Speed Timid Omastar (Wood Hammer) Max Speed Adamant/Naughty/Rash Emboar (Earthquake) and Minimum Speed Drapion (Earthquake, yes i'm aware the onsite defensive Drapion has Speed Creep for Max Speed Exploud). All targets that Adamant Torterra can't Outspeed no matter how hard it tries.

At +2, Jolly Torterra gets the jump on Choice Scarf Braviary, Choice Scarf Rotom-C, +1 Adamant/Modest Sharpedo, and Choice Scarf Moltres. All four of which are incredibly notable targets that outspeed Adamant Torterra.

Replaced Adamant with Jolly on the Rock Polish set and mentioned the notable targets that it outspeeds.
With luck I should get round to doing Usage Tips/Team Options later today, then this'll be ready for QC. :)

choice band set is currently holding a life orb. change that for obvious reasons.

tank set is huge set up bait for fletchinder (and feeds moltres with free switch ins too). with that said, mention partners capable of disposing those two and stone edge over any of the stab moves in moves if those two are big threats for the rest of the team. rock polish could use mentions of different items (earth plate, leftovers or any grass-type boosting item), since the life orb recoil might be undesired at times, and torterra is meant to clean up anyway. dunno how worth it could be slashing any of those with life orb though, so wait on Spirit's input, as he's the resident Torterra fanatic. everything else is fine for the most part, so QC 1/3

edit: you could mention more defensive-leaning ev spreads on tank set too, but having the extra power is really nice for the most part, so it ends up being really niche.

hi friend, amcheck :]

Torterra's secondary Ground typing sets it apart from other Grass-types, but this is not all that it can lay claims to. It sports great offensive presence and overall bulk, and movepool including good offensive and support options(list examples—strong stab eq and wood hammer, good coverage option in stone edge, support options in stealth rock. if you list examples, try saying "allowing it" instead of "that allow it" to see what flows better) that allow it to effectively function as a late-game sweeper, a tank,(add comma) or a wallbreaker, and. Its unique typing means thatgives it resistsa resistance to the EdgeQuake coverage combination and has an immunity to Electric-type moves. However, weaknesses to common attacking types(again, list examples. As an RU player, I recommend listing fire, ice, and flying, something like "weaknesses to Fire, Ice and Flying, all very common attacking types") in combination with a poor Speed stat means that it is often forced to switch out, which is never a desirable trait.

Moves

Rock Polish boosts Torterra's Speed to levels where it is capable of sweeping. Wood Hammer is your go-to for STAB move thanks to its great Base Power. Earthquake is another STAB move that nails the Fire- and Steel-types that resist Wood Hammer. Stone Edge offers valuable coverage against Flying-types, which resist Torterra's dual STAB combination.

Attack and Speed investment is maximized to ensure that Torterra's damage output and Speed are as high as they possibly can be. A Jolly nature boosts Torterra's Speed to levels where it is capable of outspeeding minimum Speed Golbat, max Speed Modest Clawitzer, max Speed Timid Omastar, max Speed Adamant, Naughty or Rash Emboar and minimum Speed Drapion from the get-go. After a Rock Polish boost, Jolly Torterra outpaces Choice Scarf Braviary, Choice Scarf Rotom-C, +1 Adamant or Modest Sharpedo, and most importantly, Choice Scarf variants of Moltres. Life Orb boosts the power of Torterra's attacks, allowing it to nab more KOs with extra ease. However, Earth Plate, Meadow Plate and Leftovers are worthy of consideration for their respective boosts and recovery should you deem Life Orb recoil undesirable. Overgrow boosts the power of Wood Hammer when Torterra's health is dwindlinglow(you could come up with a fancier word, but dwindling implies that Torterra's health is lowering instead of Torterra's health already being low), meaning that it can deliver a final powerful blow before it faints.

Usage Tips
========
Torterra should use Rock Polish in an attempt to sweep late-game once its checks and counters have been eliminated or weakened. Set up with Rock Polish against a Pokemon that it forces out. Torterra can attempt to wear its checks and counters down early-game, switch out, and then return late-game in order to sweep with Rock Polish.

Team Options
========
Allies capable of luring and defeating Tangrowth, such as Ice Beam Sharpedo and Choice Band Rhyperior are solid teammates. A bulky Water-type ally such as Slowking or Alomomola can dispose of troublesome Fire-types and sponge Ice-type attacks too. Toxic Spikes support can wear down Torterra's checks and counters to give it an easier time KOing them. Qwilfish is an example of a Toxic Spikes user that has good synergy with Torterra(see below).

This set values allies that can patch up Torterra's defensive holes, so to speak. Bulky Water-types such as Alomomola and Slowking have good synergy with Torterra; it can take the Electric-type attacks that they dislike, while they can take Fire- and Ice-type attacks aimed at Torterra.(while they *do* have type synergy, most Electric move users have another attack to hit Torterra) Steel-type allies such as Registeel and Bronzong also help cover Torterra's weaknesses to Flying, Bug and Ice.(Bronzong does not resist Bug and loses to the few bugs in the tier anyway due to their Dark coverage) Notably, Steel-types are capable of beating Mega Abomasnow, which walls Torterra's STAB, plus and can set up,(add comma) and otherwise provepotentially becoming a huge nuisance to the rest of your team.

Maximum Attack and Speed investment ensures that Torterra does as much damage and outspeeds as many foes as it possibly can. An Adamant nature makes Torterra pack an extra punch. Choice Band is the chosen item on this set because its power boost allows Torterra to function as a powerful wallbreaker. Overgrow is the ability of choice because of the boost it providesgives Wood Hammer a boost with when Torterra is weakened.

Usage Tips

Torterra can find the opportunity to easily comeswitch in on an attack that it resists, such as Earthquake or Stone Edge. Be wary about locking yourself into Earthquake should there be a Flying-type or a Pokemon with Levitate on the opponent's team. In a similar vein, locking yourself into Wood Hammer is risky if the opponent has a Pokemon that can safely switch into it. Use Stone Edge when you predict a Flying-type switch-in, and use Crunch ifwhen predicting the opponent has ato switch into Gourgeist-XL or Gourgeist-S. Bullet Seed should be chosen when the foe has a Substitute or a Focus Sash that needs breaking.

Team Options
========
Teammates capable of dealing with Tangrowth are mandatory; Pokemon such as Ice Beam Sharpedo and Choice Band Rhyperior are generally effective Tangrowth lures. A bulky Water-type ally such as Slowking or Alomomola can dispose of troublesome Fire-types and sponge Ice-type attacks too. Entry hazards wear down checks and counters to Torterra, allowing it to KO them with greater ease. An example of a hazard setter that has good synergy with Torterra is Qwilfish(see below). Due to Torterra's lacking Speed, paralysis support from an ally such as Registeel is an option, as is Trick Room support from an ally such as Bronzong. If Torterra is to be played under the effects of Trick Room, ensure that it has a Brave nature, 0 Speed EVs and 0 Speed IVs.

Other Options
########
Torterra has a number of other usable options, but it should generally stick to the options listed. Seed Bomb does not make Torterra suffer recoil unlike Wood Hammer, but the drop in power is noticeable. Superpower hits Shiftry, Cacturne and the rare Ferroseed for super effective damage.(add space)Toxic messes upwears down walls trying to switch into Torterra. Torterra can boost its Attack to threatening levels with Swords Dance, though it is too slow to sweep. Roar phazes opponents that try to set up against Torterra. Leech Seed plagues opponents with passive damage and supplies Torterra with a source of passive regain of healthrecovery, but Torterra finds it hard to spare the moveslot. Torterra has access to Light Screen and Reflect, though Pokemon such as Cresselia and Bronzong are better dual screeners.

Timid Choice Scarf Delphox(scarf delphox is usually modest) can even outrun and revenge kill a +2 Torterra.

**Status**: Burn and poison both serve to hinder Torterra's longevity. The former reduces its damage output, rendering Torterra less of a threat.

**Flying-types**: Torterra's STAB combination provides Flying-types such as Moltres, Gligar and Braviary with switch-(replace hyphen with space)in opportunities, though all of them, excluding Gligar, they must be wary of taking a Stone Edge(Gligar doesn't care about Stone Edge).

**Attackers with Super Effective Coverage**: Weaknesses to common attacking types such as Fire and Ice means that coverage moves such as Clawitzer's Ice Beam and Sigilyph's Heat Wave are problematic for Torterra.

Rock Polish and Choice Band Team Options: Qwilfish honestly isn't a great thing to mention for the following reasons: its special bulk is poor, meaning it still takes a number from Fire Blasts, Ice Beams, and Blizzard(from maboma); most Pokemon that use Ice-type attacks have something to hit Qwilfish, and Toxic Spikes Qwilfish is usually a suicide lead. I'd either mention a different Toxic Spikes user or remove the mention on their defensive synergy

Tank Set Details and Usage Tips: I feel you're conflicting when you say this and that "Overgrow is chosen because it boosts Wood Hammer's power when Torterra's HP is low," granted there isn't much of a better ability for Torterra anyway. Maybe mention using Wood Hammer when Torterra's walling capabilities aren't as needed.

Overview
########
Torterra's secondary Ground typing sets it apart from other Grass-types, but this is not all that it can lay claims to. It sports great offensive presence and overall bulk, and a movepool including good offensive and support options that allow it to effectively function as a late-game sweeper, a tank or a wallbreaker, and i. Its unique typing means that it resists the EdgeQuake coverage combination and has an immunity to Electric-type moves. However, weaknesses to common attacking types in combination with a poor Speed stat means that it is often forced to switch out, which is never a desirable trait.

Rock Polish
########
name: Rock Polish
move 1: Rock Polish
move 2: Wood Hammer
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stone Edge
ability: Overgrow
item: Life Orb
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly

Moves
========
Rock Polish boosts Torterra's Speed to levels where it is capable of sweeping. Wood Hammer is your go-to for STAB thanks to its great Base Power. Earthquake is another STAB move that nails the Fire- and Steel-types that resist Wood Hammer. Stone Edge offers valuable coverage against Flying-types, which resist Torterra's dual STAB combination.

Set Details
========
Attack and Speed INVESTMENTinvestment is maximized to ensure that Torterra's damage output and Speed are as high as they possibly can be. A Jolly nature boosts Torterra's Speed to levels where it is capable of outspeeding minimum Speed Golbat, max Speed Modest Clawitzer, max Speed Timid Omastar, max Speed Adamant, Naughty or Rash Emboar, and minimum Speed Drapion from the get-go. After a Rock Polish boost, Jolly Torterra outpaces Choice Scarf Braviary, Choice Scarf Rotom-C, +1 Adamant or Modest Sharpedo, and most importantly, Choice Scarf variants of Moltres. Life Orb boosts the power of Torterra's attacks, allowing it to nab KOs with extra ease. However, Earth Plate, Meadow Plate, and Leftovers are worthy of consideration for their respective boosts and recovery should you deem Life Orb recoil undesirable. Overgrow boosts the power of Wood Hammer when Torterra's health is dwindling, meaning that it can deliver a final powerful blow before it faints.

Usage Tips
========
Torterra should use Rock Polish in an attempt to SWEEPsweep late-game once its CHECKSchecks and counters have been eliminated or weakened. Set up with Rock Polish against a Pokemon that it forces out. Torterra can attempt to wear its checks and counters down early-game, switch out, and then return late-game in order to sweep with Rock Polish.

Team Options
========
Qwilfish is an example of a Toxic Spikes user that has good synergy with Torterra.

Tank

move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Synthesis
ability: Overgrow
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
Wood Hammer is a powerful STAB choice. Earthquake is a second STAB move that strikes Fire- and Steel-types hard. Stealth Rock is an important entry hazard. Torterra can utilize its stellar bulk and resistances in order to set it up. Synthesis restores Torterra's HP, increasing its ability to stay in longevityr. Stone Edge can replace either STAB attack in order to nail Fletchinder, which this set is setup bait for, and Moltres, which gains free switches in.

Set Details
========
EVs are placed into HP and Attack to upincrease Torterra's hit-taking capability and its damage output. A more defensively-oriented EV spread is an option, but Torterra generally values the power of the given spread. An Adamant nature further boosts Torterra's Attack. Leftovers give Torterra passive recovery. Overgrow is chosen because it boosts Wood Hammer's power when Torterra's HP is low.

Usage Tips
========
Torterra can force a switch against an opposing user of Stealth Rock such as Rhyperior and proceed to set up its own Stealth Rock. Use Synthesis when your health is dwindling in order to be able to take your opponent's next attack. Use your STAB attacks accordingly depending on which Pokemon you are against and which Pokemon you expect the opponent to bring in. Unfortunately, Torterra is prone to being forced out by foes that resist its STAB combination, such as Moltres or Golbat.

Team Options
========
This set values allies that can PATCHpatch up Torterra's defensive holes, so to speak. Bulky Water-types such as Alomomola and Slowking have good synergy with Torterra; it can take the Electric-type attacks that they dislike, while they can take Fire- and Ice-type attacks aimed at Torterra. Steel-type allies such as Registeel and Bronzong also help cover Torterra's weaknesses to Flying, Bug and Ice. Notably, Steel-types are capable of beating Mega Abomasnow, which walls Torterra's STAB, plusand can set up and otherwise prove a huge nuisance to the rest of your team.

move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Crunch / Bullet Seed
ability: Overgrow
item: Choice Band

nature: Adamant

Moves
========
Wood Hammer is a powerful STAB move that is capable of puthurting the hurt on many an opponent. Earthquake is a secondary STAB move that hits the Fire- and Steel-types that resist Wood Hammer for super effective damage. Stone Edge's coverage is useful against Flying-types looking to switch in on a Wood Hammer or Earthquake. Torterra's last move is somewhat of a filler; Crunch is useful against Gourgeist-XL and Gourgeist-S, and Bullet Seed has the ability to break through Substitutes and Focus Sashes.

Set Details
========
Maximum Attack and Speed INVESTMENTinvestment ensures that Torterra does as much damage and outspeeds as many foes as it possibly can. An Adamant nature makes Torterra pack an extra punch. Choice Band is the chosen item on this set because its power boost allows Torterra to function as a powerful wallbreaker. Use Stone Edge when you predict a Flying-type switch-in, and use Crunch when predicting the opponent to switch into Gourgeist-XL or Gourgeist-S. Bullet Seed should be chosen when the foe has a Substitute or a Focus Sash that needs breaking.

Team Options
========
Teammates capable of dealing with Tangrowth are mandatory; Pokemon such as Ice Beam Sharpedo and Choice Band Rhyperior are generally effective Tangrowth lures. A bulky Water-type ally teammate such as Slowking or Alomomola can dispose of troublesome Fire-types and sponge Ice-type attacks too. Entry hazards wear down checks and counters to Torterra, allowing it to KO them with greater ease. Examples of hazard setters are Omastar and Qwilfish. Due to Torterra's lacking Speed, paralysis support from an ally a teammate such as Registeel is an option, as is Trick Room support from an ally a teammate such as Bronzong. If Torterra is to be played under the effects of Trick Room, ensure that it has a Brave nature, 0 Speed EVs, (AC) and 0 Speed IVs.

Other Options
########
Torterra has a number of other usable options, but it should generally stick to the options listed. Seed Bomb does not make Torterra suffer recoil unlike Wood Hammer, but the drop in power is noticeable. Superpower hits Shiftry, Cacturne and the rare Ferroseed for super effective damage. Toxic wears down walls trying to switch into Torterra. Torterra can boost its Attack to threatening levels with Swords Dance, though it is too slow to sweep. Roar phazes opponents that try to set up against Torterra. Leech Seed plagues opponents with passive damage and supplies Torterra with a source of passive recovery, but Torterra finds it hard to spare the moveslot. Torterra has access to Light Screen and Reflect, though Pokemon such as Cresselia and Bronzong are better dual screeners.

Checks and Counters
########
**Physical Walls**: Physically defensive behemoths such as Tangrowth and Weezing fear nothing from Torterra. These two Pokemon are particularly great answers to Torterra because they resist its STAB moves and take little damage from Stone Edge. Tangrowth can stall Torterra out easily enough, and while Weezing can scare Torterra out with the prospect of a Flamethrower or a Will-O-Wisp.

**Fire-types**: Although somewhat scarce in number, RU's Fire-types make light work of Torterra with their STAB attacks. Timid Choice Scarf Delphox can even outrun and revenge kill a +2 Torterra.

**Status**: Burn and poison both hinder Torterra's longevity. The former reduces its damage output, rendering Torterra less of a threat.

**Flying-types**: Torterra's STAB combination provides Flying-types such as Moltres, Gligar and Braviary with switch-in (add hyphen) opportunities, though all of them, excluding Gligar, must be wary of taking a Stone Edge.

**Attackers with Super Effective Coverage**: Weaknesses to common attacking types such as Fire and Ice means that coverage moves such as Clawitzer's Ice Beam and Sigilyph's Heat Wave are problematic for Torterra.

  • Leftovers give Torterra passive recovery.
  • Overgrow is chosen because it boosts Wood Hammer's power when Torterra's HP is low.
Usage Tips
========

Torterra can attempt to wear its checks and counters down early-game, switch out, and then return late-game in order to sweep with Rock Polish.

Team Options
========
Allies Torterra appreciates teammates ('allies' refers to partners in double battles. Also had to rephrase it a little in order to avoid the repetition of 'teammates') capable of luring and defeating Tangrowth, such as Ice Beam Sharpedo and Choice Band Rhyperior are solid teammates. A bulky Water-type ally teammate such as Slowking or Alomomola can dispose of troublesome Fire-types and sponge Ice-type attacks too. Toxic Spikes support can wear down Torterra's checks and counters to give it an easier time KOing them. Drapion can set up Toxic Spikes, and while Torterra covers its sole weakness.

A more defensively-oriented EV spread is an option, but Torterra generally values the power of the given spread. An Adamant nature further boosts Torterra's Attack. Leftovers give Torterra passive recovery. Overgrow is chosen because it is superior to Shell Armor, (RC) and lets Torterra dish out a powered-up Wood Hammer on the verge of fainting.

Usage Tips
========
Torterra can force a switch against an opposing user of Stealth Rock such as Rhyperior and proceed to set up its own Stealth Rock. Use Synthesis when Torterra's health is getting low in order to be able to take your opponent's next attack. Use your Torterra's STAB attacks accordingly depending on which Pokemon you are it is up against and which Pokemon you expect the opponent to bring in. Torterra can afford to suffer recoil damage from Wood Hammer when its walling capabilities aren't as needed. Unfortunately, Torterra is prone to being forced out by foes that resist its STAB combination, such as Moltres or and Golbat.

Team Options
========
This set values allies teammates that can patch up Torterra's defensive holes, so to speak. Bulky Water-types such as Alomomola and Slowking have good synergy with Torterra; it can take the Electric-type attacks that they dislike, while they can take Fire- and Ice-type attacks aimed at Torterra. Bear in mind, however, that Electric-types often have coverage attacks to hit Ground-types like such as Torterra. Steel-type allies teammates such as Registeel and Bronzong also help cover Torterra's weaknesses to Flying, Bug and Ice, or just Flying and Ice in Bronzong's case. Notably, Steel-types are capable of beating Mega Abomasnow, which walls Torterra's STAB and can set up, potentially becoming a huge nuisance to the rest of your team.

Some real subjective stuff i will comment on soon.

On bullet seed CB: i don't like the idea of being locked into bullet seed, just to get a bit of extra damage on substitutes. As for sash leads, most don't care, that said

252+ Atk Choice Band Torterra Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 315-372 (121.1 - 143%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(105, 106, 108, 109, 109, 111, 112, 114, 115, 117, 117, 118, 120, 121, 123, 124)

In addition, it might try to block sr with taunt, in which case you prevent rocks entirely.

That said,
252+ Atk Choice Band Torterra Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 188 Def Meloetta: 180-216 (44.5 - 53.4%) -- approx. 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
(60, 61, 61, 63, 63, 64, 64, 66, 66, 67, 67, 69, 69, 70, 70, 72)

So, idk, maybe the sub mention is fairly warranted. I'd find some other sub mons you actually want to bullet (for longer 1v1s, wood hammer or eqs consistency and strength matter more.)

I will say this-your beginning of the overview is really awkward and a bit unnecessary. I usually love explanations of a Pokemon's niche; that said, all that other stuff also makes it stand out, and it's a much stronger start to the overview. That said, feel to reject my change or re-include that statement elsewhere on the overview.

Crunch's most relevant target by far seems to be Bronzong. The two gourgeists still warrant mention for hard walling you otherwise.

Imo shell armor>overgrow on tank set. You lack the speed to get off a last hit in most cases, plus why not just synthesis? Meanwhile the set is meant to take hits

The sentence with Jolly definitely has run-on potential after my combination, keep an eye on that and reserve final judgement for yourself.

The whole point of being a counter is that you can't really wear it down.

If tr is being used with cb tort, where do the Evs go? Hp?

Comments:

Flying-types don't resist your Stab combo, as theyre immune to eq. Wall is a much betted description and one you should apply throughout the analysis in place of resist (unless resist is true there)

The jolly sentence can be a tad run-on with me combining the two, so w/e do what you will

Generally speaking you can't wear down your counters, this being sort of the point of a counter

Team options stuff pretty self explanatory.

Sentences like the beginning of oo are pure fluff. We know that a certain option is chosen or not worth using based on where it is and how you talk about it.

The deal with weezing and growth is that they are neutral to stone edge, they take little damage generally due to high bulk.

Burn halves, reduces is too weak a word. I also question if toxic cripples anything other than the tank set.

For the rest of your checks and counters, explain how well they switch in if you didn't already. Also, isn't sigilyph under flying types?

Use Synthesis when Torterra's health is getting low in order to be able to take your opponent's next attack. Use Torterra's STAB attacks accordingly depending on which Pokemon it is against and which Pokemon you expect the opponent to bring in. Torterra can afford to suffer recoil damage from Wood Hammer when its walling capabilities aren't as needed. Unfortunately, Torterra is prone to being forced out by foes that resist its STAB combination, such as Moltres and Golbat.

Team Options
========
This set values teammates that can patch up Torterra's defensive holes, so to speak. Steel-type teammates such as Registeel and Bronzong also help cover Torterra's weaknesses to Flying, Bug and Ice, or just Flying and Ice in Bronzong's case. Notably, Steel-types are capable of beating Mega Abomasnow, which walls Torterra's STAB and can set up, potentially becoming a huge nuisance to the rest of your team.

Choice Band

name: Choice Band
move 1: Wood Hammer
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Crunch / Bullet Seed
ability: Overgrow
item: Choice Band
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
Wood Hammer is a powerful STAB move that is capable of hurting many opponents. Earthquake is a secondary STAB move that hits the Fire- and Steel-types that resist Wood Hammer for super effective damage. Stone Edge's coverage is useful against Flying-types looking to switch in on a Wood Hammer or Earthquake. Torterra's last move is a filler—Crunch is useful against Gourgeist-XL and Gourgeist-S, while Bullet Seed has the ability to break through Substitutes and Focus Sashes.

Set Details
========
Maximum Attack and Speed investment ensures that Torterra does as much damage and outspeeds as many foes as it possibly can. An Adamant nature maklets Torterra pack an extra punch. Choice Band is the chosen item on this set because it's power boost allows Torterra to function as a powerful wallbreaker., and Overgrow is the ability of choice because it gives Wood Hammer a boost when Torterra is weakened.

Usage Tips
========

========
Examples of hazard setters are Omastar and Qwilfish. Due to Torterra's lacking Speed, paralysis support from a teammate such as Registeel is an option, as is Trick Room support from a teammate such as Bronzong. If Torterra is to be played under the effects of Trick Room, ensure that it has a Brave nature, 0 Speed EVs, and a 0 Speed IVs.

These two Pokemon are particularly great answers to Torterra because they resistwall its STAB moves and takre littlne damutragel frtom Stone Edge. Tangrowth can stall Torterra out easily enough, while Weezing can sctarke Torterra out with the prospect of a Flamethrower or a Will-O-Wisp.

The former reduchalves its damage output, rendering Torterra much less of a threat.

**Flying-types**: Torterra's STAB combination provides Flying-types such as Moltres, Gligar and Braviary with switch-in opportunities, though all of them, excluding Gligar, must be wary of taking a Stone Edge.

**Attackers with Super Effective Coverage**: Weaknesses to common attacking types such as Fire and Ice means that coverage moves such as Clawitzer's Ice Beam and Sigilyph's Heat Wave are problematic for Torterra.
