[Sick R3] Mulan15262 vs. Maxim

Welcome one, welcome all, to the Sharing is Caring (Kinda) tournament! As this tourney enters its third round, there are many upsets that happened, and many more that can happen!

Rules:
Bring 4, Pick 2 Singles. You PM 4 pokemons to the ref, but the battle will be 2vs2 singles. You will choose your mons as the battle develop.
ASB Arena
Strict 3-day Disqualification. You will get a single warning per round. After that, you go over DQ and you're done. Referees please tag the combatants when you have finished your reffing. Players, if you know you're going to be away you better post a Leave of Absence BEFORE you leave, or give a very good reason in case of an emergency.
Strict 4-day Disqualification for Refs. Same rules as above (one warning and then BAM). Also, you can be sure as hell that I will jump in to subref anyone if necessary. Also I reserve the right to DQ a ref under LoA if the respective match is taking way too long.
3 Substitutions.
Turn Order: Coin Flip
2 Recovery/5 Chills per pokemon
All Abilities
All Items
Switch=OK
Mega Clause: 1
PHAZING RULE: If a pokemon is sent back to the pokeball by a phazing move, the trainer (of the pokemon sent back obv.) chooses who will be the replacement
I-HATE-CENTRALIZATION RULE: The three species most used per round from r2 onwards are Banned for the remainder of the tourney. In case of a tie, the species brought the most is banned. If the tie persists then none of the species are banned (and you can't just ban both and be in the 3-mons-banned limit). For the record, the species banned until now are: Gardevoir, Dragonite and Pyroak.

This match right here pits two very different contestants! On the left side is someone that has already gotten not one, but two upsets, and is looking for the third! Give it up for Mulan!

Types:
Water:
Water STAB; Ignores arena restrictions on Water attacks that require an external water source. Evasive Diving reduced from 6 per action Energy Cost to 5 per action.
Dark:
Dark STAB; ignores Attract and Confusion status entirely when using Dark-type damaging and non-damaging attacks.

Abilities:
Torrent:
When this Pokemon's HP is lower than 33%, the Base Attack Power of any water attack is increased by two (2). (eg Water Pulse goes from 6 to 8, Hydro Pump from 12 to 14)
Protean:
By default, this Pokemon switches their type before striking with each damaging attack to match the attack they are about to use, and keep that type until another damaging move is used. The energy cost for the attack is calculated based on their type before using the move. When toggled, the Pokemon reverts back to their natural typing. Pokemon that also have Color Change ability may select whether to keep their current type or the damaging attack's type each action.

Nature: Quiet (+1 SpA, -15% Speed, -10% Evasion)
Type: Bug / Psychic

  • Bug STAB; Adds an additional guaranteed attack on all multi-hit moves (does not include two hit moves) with a total hit cap of five (5).

  • Psychic STAB; Can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-Type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.
Abilities: Weak Armor / No Guard / Illusion (H)
  • Weak Armor: (Toggle) No default effect. When toggled, the Pokemon loosens its worn defensive armor so that it will break off when an opponent uses a contact attack, reducing the Pokemon's Defense and increasing their Speed by one (1) stage for each hit.

  • No Guard: (Passive) This Pokemon has an immense confidence from perfecting each of its attacks, giving them all perfect accuracy. As a result, it feels it can weather every strike, and will not dodge an attack even if ordered to. Only when an OHKO move is issued by the opponent does sense return, and the Pokemon acts normally. Additionally, even with their extra skill, the power and exhaustion involved in using OHKO moves prevents them from being benefited by No Guard; they will have their normal accuracy.

  • Illusion: (Passive) Whenever you send this Pokemon out, it can feign the appearance of another member on your squad. If this Pokemon is damaged by a direct attack, the Illusion will cease at the end of the round. Direct damage is any attack that does damage to the Pokemon's HP. Attacks that are evaded, blocked via Protect, or damage a Substitute are not considered direct damage. It will retain the typing and moveset of the Pokemon with Illusion. [Usage Note: PM the ref if you are sending out a Pokemon with Illusion with the info on said Pokemon and one of your squad members in a Switch=KO battle. You must use that squad member later in the battle though.]

An interesting choice of mons here, but the star of the show is likely to be Greninja. "Skill Frog" is a tricky opponent to order first against, and on a battle where every round matters, it can turn the tide of a battle in a snap.

On the other side of the arena is the well-respected Normal-type Gym Leader. He's been having a hard time lately, but he's not letting that get in his way of victory! It's Maxim!

Maxim chose to go the high bulk route. Each of these mons is bulky in one way or another. Notice Snorlax. A Pokemon with 121 moves is no laughing matter, particularly when said mon has 130 HP and a hell of a good movepool with goodies like Bide and Heavy Slam. While Mega Hera can make short work of it, it's still a threat to be considered.

And now, the coin flip.

(d10000 [Odd = Mulan sends out first]): 4674 (Maxim)

So, here's how it's gonna go:
Maxim chooses a mon, sends it out with an item.
Then Mulan chooses a mon, sends it out with an item, and orders for that round.
Then Maxim orders, and I referee the match.

All clear? Let's do this!

Maxim stepped out into the arena, his heart pounding. In truth, he was only here because his opponent had been disqualified; the match was almost certain to be a loss otherwise. Frankly, his tournament record didn't look that good, only 1 or 2 wins in all 4 or 5 tourneys that had been conducted in ASB. Part of him wanted to give up. But the cheers of the crowd as his name was read spurred him on. He wasn't doing this for himself, he was doing this to entertain, and it wouldn't be very fun if he quit now would it?

He looked up to his opponent. Mulan was an interesting opponent, as he didn't really come into Maxim's radar as a threat. Still, if he managed to pull off two upsets in one tournament, he was definitely nobody to be underestimated. Maxim then spoke up "So you're Mulan? You must be quite the opponent to get this far into this tournament. I'm sure some have their doubts as to whether I can win, even I have some of those doubts. However, I will show everyone just how much of an opponent I am! Bariyaado I'm counting on you!"

To those that just arrived, welcome! The match between Maxim and Mulan begins as Maxim sends out Bariyaado and Mulan sends out Rodan! Both mons are very powerful, and it would seem Greninja has the advantage.

But don't be fooled. While I feel Snorlax is the mon to watch out for, as Maxim does know its way around it, Mr. Mime should never be ignored. It has a variety of powerful tricks up its sleeve and can disrupt the flow of battle as quickly as its opponent here.

And it seems to do just that: A combination of Light Screen and a Shock Wave/Zap Cannon combo make Greninja's Hydro Pumps and Surf do a lot less damage than they would and hinder Greninja a fair bit.

At the end of the day, while it seems Mr. Mime has less HP than Greninja, its percentage is actually higher. We'll see how Maxim continues his pressure. Will his keen eye and determination seal the fate of this first matchup, or will Mulan outwit him?

As we go into Round 2, it shows that Mime is truly something to be feared. Even though its Hypnosis misses Greninja entirely, paralysis does its work as Greninja can't move during the first action, and struggles to keep up with Mime's Psychics and Dazzling Gleams.
Mulan might be in trouble here. While Mime's Light Screen wore off, he is ordering first, and we all know how hard it is to order first against the Psychic/Fairy.

The Quick Attack + Night Slash would have gone before the Hypnosis because it had +1 priority, although it does not matter.

Surf - Hydro Pump - Surf
If Bide is used, use Toxic that action and Toxic Spikes the next, and Hydro Pump the one after.
If Light Screen is used, use Waterfall that action, Night Slash the next, and Waterfall the one after.
If Mr. Mime uses a damaging electric-type move, use Protect that action, Hydro Pump the next, and Surf the one after, but not consecutively.

"All right Bariyaado, let's end this and move on to the next enemy!"

Solarbeam~Fake Out~Energy Ball

Playing "better safe than sorry", Maxim orders Mr. Mime to deliver a quick one-two alongside Fake Out for the first KO!
Mulan has a lot of ground to cover. Not only does he have to send out his last mon, it's going to go against Mime and a very bulky second Pokemon, for sure, as all of them have 110 HP or more. While Maxim is ordering first now, he's definitely in a very good position! But the match isn't over, and anything could happen!

Maxim forgot one important little detail when using Snorlax, and yet, Mulan took no advantage of it besides setting up a Reflect. It's still very one-sided towards Maxim, but this detail may have put a dent in his plan to finish it.

There's more than one way to KO someone, folks. Maxim missed that fact, but he still managed to throw Charizard off by making it rain for some time.
Maxim has a very clear advantage now, but ordering first is never simple, so we'll see how this plays out!
Charizard used Sunny Day + Heat Wave!

Maxim put Mulan on the ropes here. Now ordering first, with a very tired and confused Charizard, even behind Reflect, is just too much to handle. To make things worse, Charizard now has no recoveries left and thus Snorlax can finish it off with ease, even though it is tired itself and it was burnt by a Will-O-Wisp. Maxim has this match pretty much secured, folks, unless some ungodly hax happens.
Charizard used Reflect!
A barrier enveloped Charizard's team! (-10 EN Zard)
Snorlax used Rock Slide!
(Crits? =616, Yes) Charizard took (8+3+3)*2.25 = 31.5 damage!

(-6 EN Zard)
Snorlax used Rock Tomb!
(Crits? = 6021, no) Charizard took (6*0.5 - 3 + 3)*2.25 = 6.75 damage!
Charizard's Speed fell! Charizard's Drought was activated!
(-4 EN Snorlax)
Snorlax took 2 damage from burn!
-
Charizard used Roost!
Charizard planted its feet on the ground and gained 20 HP!
(-11 EN Zard)
Snorlax used Dynamic Punch!
(Crits? = 3817, no) (Confusion = 3, 4a) Charizard took (5 - 3 + 3)*2.25 = 11.25 damage!
Charizard was confused (4a)!
(-8 EN Snorlax)
