ORAS Mega Stone Location Guide

I want to add to this. I'm right before Groudon-P now, and from your list I have Mawilite, Alakazite, Banetite and Medichamite, all of them as soon as their area is available. You can actually get a few before you get the Mega Bracelet, although my team didn't have the Pokemon that could use them to check what happens.
Confirming that Mawilite is available as soon as you reach the area - it was the first Mega Stone I found.

I'm fairly certain that the mega stones that correspond with Pokemon in the Hoenn Dex are available from the start and the rest appear after the legend battle in Sootopolis (which is when your pokedex is upgraded)

I believe capturing/defeating Kyogre/Groudon is an event flag that lets you get some Mega Stones. I was able to grab Mewtwonite X immediately afterward when it wasn't at Littleroot before. I'll edit this post with teh stone I got as I get them.

EDIT: It's an event flag.
EDIT 2: Triggers Wattson for New Mauville, not beating the Elite Four.

Post-Cave of Origin Stones
  • Mewtwonite X
  • Scizorite
  • Gardevoirite
  • Mawilte
  • Lopunnite
  • Venusaurite
  • Tyranitarite
  • Alakazite
  • Beedrillite
  • Abomasite
  • Banettite
  • Pinsirite
  • Houndoomite
  • Medichamite
  • Absolite
  • Kangaskhanite
  • Ampharosite
both charizard stones as well

Can anyone make a full list of every mega stone we know about, and whether it's pre or post game?
For now you can just ctrl+f to find stuff (or use the forums' search function) to see what has been mentioned so far. I have been planning to make 3 lists with; all mega stones (alphabetical), pre-E4 (separated by before and after Groudon/Kyogre, in order you can obtain them) and post game. So watch this space for that development

edit: DragonWhale posted information (on the first page, not formatted properly though) on the location of all the mega stones. It doesn't say whether they're pre or post E4 but you can check those areas yourself to see if they're there. canasian made a great point that stones for Hoenn-native 'mons seem to be available before the Groudon battle and the rest are after that. Beating the E4 probably triggers ones like Mewtwonite etc...

Both Mewtwonites are Pre-E4, post Cave of Origin. The only post-E4 ones are in areas you can only access after completing Episode Delta, like the Blastoisite in the SS Tidal and the Stones at the Battle Resort.

That's not entirely true, though. I know Pidgeotite is available before the Cave of Origin event, since I'm not there yet and I have it. Gardevoirite doesn't seem to be, though, since talking to Wanda has done nothing so far. It's somewhat random what is and isn't, and needs testing.

Good point about Pidgeotite. Though we never stated it as fact, there just seemed to be some correlation between the regional / national dex and availability.. I can also confirm that Gardeviorite must be (at least) post Cave of Origin as I can't make Wanda hand it over either

Updated the OP so that there a couple of actual entries so we know what it will eventually look like. Also added a link to DragonWhale's post so people can use that in the meantime

Beedrillite can be obtained before the national dex. I was able to access as soon as I got Dive.

Um... Where is Heracronite? Does anyone here know? It hasn't been mentioned in any posts yet,,,
As Nexus said, the only info we have is that it's on an island in Route 127. I'll confirm it when I get to that area and write up something better than what we currently have (unless Karxrida beats me to it)

Also, it seems that Heracronite has been forgotten in the list you posted for us DragonWhale, could you edit it in? There's a link to that post in the OP so it would be good to have it complete

As long as it knows Dragon Ascent, Rayquaza can hold any item and Mega Evolve, such as Life Orb, Leftovers, Choice Band, etc.

I appreciate the amount of effort you've put into your entries, however it is just doubling up on what DragonWhale has already provided, you've chosen your own format (you don't need to elaborate on story requirements, just a simple 'pre-Cave of Origin' or whatever is appropriate is fine), and I find that a lot of the entries are much too wordy. For example with Cameruptite / Sharpedonite where they are simply gifts that you receive unprompted, you can just simply say 'gift from Maxie when you reach the Battle Resort' etc... Tbh there are many entries that can be simplified quite a lot (not going to go through them all). I'm not saying the information you've provided isn't helpful (quite the opposite) but when I get around to updating the OP with the info I will be cutting down the info a fair amount to be more precise

The most important thing right now is confirming when the stones are available. Some can be grabbed the moment you step into the area while others need a trigger. IIRC the only Hoenn-Dex Mega Stones you can't get pre-CoO are Gardevoirite, Sharpedoite, and Cameruptite while almost every National Dex stone is post-CoO (except Beedrillite and maybe Pidgeotite?).

Fair enough cant say, just happy to help.

I'm just nitpicking, but...

Garchompite, Lucarionite, Steelixite and Slowbronite are all non-Hoenn Dex and pre-Cave of Origin, though admittely those first two take so long to get.

Galladite, Salamencite and Metagrossite are also post-Delta Hoenn Dex mons, as well as Latiasite in Ruby and Latiosite in Sapphire.

Granted, Gallade is a Hoenn newcomer, Salamence is very late in the game and the other three were formerly post-game only, so I can understand you not counting them, haha.

Derp.

Anyways, confirming Scizorite is definitely post CoO, as it isn't in the spot when I went there are beating Roxanne.

cant say, I think it would be a good idea to make a secondary list that shows the Stones in the order they can be obtained chronologically, just in case people want them ASAP. Also re-confirming that Alakazite, Manectite, Mawilite, and the Intriguing Stone are available as soon as you can reach them. I'll try to see if you can turn in the Stone for Pidgeotite after I beat Wattson.

Yes, as soon as you get Rock Smash you can get the Pidgeotite, I did that myself in my playthrough. Technically it might be possible to get it even before then, but that'd be a looong trip.
