ASB HIGHLIGHT MATCH
HLM #7 TAKE TWO | WEEK OF 18/11/2013

Welcome, one and all, to the greatest semestral spectacle of ASB talent: the ASB Highlight Match! Highlight matches pit two of the top ASB players against each other for all to see! These matches will test the skills of the players chosen, and will give us a chance to see who comes out on top! Best of all, YOU are the one who gets to choose the participants! That's right, you will be voting on who gets to play who in these matches. It's a fun time for both the players and the spectators. You don't want to miss this battle, folks!

Match #7: 18/11/2014

Rules:

BATTLE NAME: Mega Mega Meeeega

Format: 3v3
Style: Singles
Chills/Recovery: 5 chills / 2 recoveries
Disqualification: 3 Day DQ / 4 Day Ref DQ
Substitutions: 3 + KO Substitutions
Switch Rules: OK
Item Rules: On
Ability Rules: All
Arena: ASB Tournament Arena
Mega Evolutions: 2 PER TEAM

Rules are simple and intend to showcase the current metagame now that Gen VI came and settled (pre-ORAS). The unusual part is that, of the 3 pokemon, 2 can be Mega Pokemon. Let's see if the players will use megas or not and how they will fight them.

Prizes consist of normal battle counters (that's 2 CC per trainer and 1 EC, 2 MC, 1 DC and any gained KO Counters per participating Pokemon). The winner receives 3 UC to spend as well and, of course, will be recorded as a Highlight Match winner!

Reffing

Anyone that wishes to ref this battle may PM me stating their qualifications to ref. I will choose one ref and one subref to avoid problems if the original ref has a conflict. Referees recieve the heightened rewards for gym battles, to represent the stricter DQ time and exceptional work needed to display.

Previous Battles
Deck Knight vs. Rising_Dusk, Match 1 (The Bond of Friendship)
Flora vs. Engineer Pikachu, Match 2 (K.I.S.S)
zarator vs. Athenodoros, Match 3 (Pokeswap)
Dogfish44 vs Its_A_Random, Match 4 (There Are Other Arenas!)
Elevator Music vs Glacier Knight, Match 5 (Fog of War)
Pwnemon vs Objection, Match 6 (Double the Pain, Double the Gain)

Battle
Well it is time for the battle now and to start, I will tag both battlers, the first referee and the backup referee to watch this thread: Frosty, Avnomke, ZhengTann, Gale Wing Srock.

Now to the teams and neither of the battlers are going for two Mega Evolutions. On Frosty's side, watch out for his Revenankh as it is his major Mega Lucario answer. On Avnomke's side, watch out for his Goodra because it is stuck with an incredibly bad matchup and looks like it will not be doing much this match. Yes I am pretty concise on this and cannot be bothered writing much flavour, especially given all I am doing is setting up this OP hahaha.

Abilities:
Sap Sipper:
This Pokemon lives on a steady diet of plants and has developed defenses to every Grass-type attack. When attacked with a Grass-type move, damage and effects are negated and the Pokemon gains a one (1) stage boost to its Attack and natural Attack stage. Self-targeted attacks do not increase the natural Attack stage.
Hydration:
This Pokemon absorbs water during the rain to heal any status effects afflicting this Pokemon.
Gooey:
This Pokemon has a thick goo covering its body that sticks to any Pokemon that strikes it with a contact attack, slowing the attacking down and reducing its speed and natural speed stage by one (1) stage.

The sad part is that I saw togekiss coming from a mile away and still didn't have any pokemon that could reliably beat it.

So unreliable it is!

Come forth Hilda the Gardevoir with Gardevoirite!

[MEGA EVOLVE] [TRACE SERENE GRACE] Moonblast - Thunderbolt - Moonblast
[ONCE] IF Tailwind AND Togekiss isn't under cooldown AND Gardevoir isn't under Tailwind AND Gardevoir is faster THEN Snatch
[ONCE] IF Light Screen AND A1 AND Gardevoir doesn't have Light Screen Up AND Togekiss isn't under cooldown THEN Snatch
IF Ghost-Typed Damaging Combo AND Togekiss isn't under cooldown AND Gardevoir doesn't have Light Screen Up AND Its_A_Random makes this a 3-sub match as I am a sub maniac and need all I can get :( THEN Teleport (Evasive)

Morning folks, and welcome to the seventh Highlight Match of the Semester, this time titled Mega Mega Meeeeega! Wait why does that sound like a lot of bleating? Oh heck, let's just pretend the third Mega doesn't exist, as specified in the ruleset.

So anyway, both teams decided to start out with powerful Fairy-type Pokemons, that promised the start of this match to be one of beauty. Frosty sent out Hilda-Gardevoir, who immediately Mega-Evolved into a black-widow-ish ball-dancer, while Av went for Alexander-Togekiss, which seemed to have no problems allowing Hilda to Trace his Serene Grace. With Mega-Evolution, it was obvious who is faster here, and Hilda proved that by firing a Serene Grace Moonblast attack, weakening Alexander's intent to give it all! However, Av simply watched, unfazed as his trusty Pokemon performed what a Togekiss is supposed to do, with a Shadow Ball that does similarly to Hilda. I guess when Serene Grace, Scope Lens, and Super Luck is involved, pretty much all hax is no hax.

Hilda tried to follow up with a Thunderbolt, and it crackled menacingly upon Alexander, striking impeccably!! For a moment there, Alexander is shrouded in a faint halo, like an angel decoration on the top of the Christmas tree. But when the spectators' eyes have adjusted to the lightning flash, some of the more experienced Trainers recognized the Baton Pass aura, signalling a switch to one of Avnomke's two other mons.

But before the switch they repeated the second paragraph, except with less hax on Alexander's part.

Now it's time for a second Mega to enter the battle...... Gaaalaaaahaad the Lucariiooooo!!

Galahad wasted no time in Mega-Evolving, gaining Adaptability to better pound Hilda with!! And true enough, he did, starting off with an Iron Tail to Hilda's face! Hilda tried to avoid it, but the ecstasy may have befuddled her somewhat, so the Teleport is just a call back to Frosty's Pokeball. Bewildered, Galahad repeated Hilda's actions, just to make sure she wasn't intending to dodge the attack. Seeing Galahad scratching his head after the Copycat, Hilda temporarily melded her thoughts, feelings, and even life force to Galahad's, trying to convey the Pain-pleasure at being slapped with a long, hard *ahem nsfw ahem*, tail. Unfortunately, Galahad wasn't into this kind of masochistic stuff. Recoiling in horror, the upstanding Mega-Lucario replaced his current position with a Substitute, to avoid further tainting his mental image with Hilda's solicitation. And just in time too, as the Mega-Gardevoir tried to submit his body to her will with a paralysing Thunder Wave!

-Uh, what's this? It appears that Frosty and Avnomke had both recalled their Pokemon. The one with his veins popping out would be Av, while the one repeatedly slamming his forehead to the wall with a shameful face is Frosty. Up in the grandstands, IAR shook his head, pressing a couple of fingers to his temples as the situation was already as contained as possible. And this, my friends, is the story of how a Gardevoir halved a Lucario's HP in ASB, without even a direct-damaging attack.

Determined to avoid another mid-battle scandal, both battlers this time focus on straight-up trading of blows. Kafei-Azumarill Plays gleefully around, prancing about and Roughhousing Slime-Goodra despite all the Acid and the goo. Unfortunately, the water rabbit paid the price as a close up Sludge Wave poisoned him, and a second Thunderbolt nearly paralysed him too! Looks like things evened up for Avnomke a little here.

And no, I'm not going to spend 3 lines saying "Kafei dusted the dirt of itself, then smiles and continues to Play Rough with Slime!!" just for each action.

Deciding to play it risky, Frosty made a decision.

Kafei the Azumarill continued to punch and shove Slime, who started Counter back angrily, the animosity boiling to incredibly high tension. Finally, Slime snapped and swung too hard, tripping on the floor - the exact moment Kafei has been waiting for. Cocking his not so impressive fist, Kafei coated it in Frost, before Punching with full Focus straight on the back of Slime's skull, scoring the first KO of the match! The effort does leave Kafei drained and helpless against Avnomke's next mon, though, so will Frosty's play bite his rear in the end?

Trying to even the game, Alexander landed on the ground - and started to roll around like a ball. Apparently Togekiss' lower appendages are too stunted to be of any practical land movements. Still, the Roost played off - and Kafei watched while panting, out of breath.

Forgetting that he's still on the ground, Alexander let himself bask in the Morning Sun, enjoying the warm sunshine. Kafei's eyes roll and got shiny - it appears Kafei now thought off Alexander as a toy!!

Rushing forward to Play, Kafei delivered a mighty kick to Alexander, lobbing the latter up into the air! What's more amazing, even the Togekiss is too immersed in the joy of sunbathing to reply. Waddling hurriedly to Alexander's landing spot, Kafei took the stance of a professional soccer player, ready to headbut Alexander into an imaginary goal. But he got his position slightly off, and Alexander landed squarely on Kafei's torse, knockng the Azumarill out!
