desc. from oras good cores
quoting boltsandbombers
As you all know, both Manaphy and Mega Gallade are excellent sweepers. However, Mega Gallade really struggles to break through common defensive Pokemon, particularly Mega Sableye, Mega Slowbro, and to some extent Unaware Clefable. Mega Gallade is such a threat to defensive or balanced teams that it basically invites Mega Sableye / Slowbro in for free, which is a great opportunity for Manaphy to setup a Tail Glow. With Rain Dance, Manaphy can avoid pesky status from these two Pokemon, in the form of Will-O-Wisp from Mega Sableye and Scald burns from Mega Slowbro. While it isnt too common, Manaphy struggles to break through Mega Venusaur, which Gallade can deal massive damage to with a STAB Zen Headbutt. While they may not have any great type synergy, they do an excellent job of breaking down each others checks and counters to allow a sweep. Give it a go :]

Something I've been kinda messing around with is the idea of Pursuit metagross + hazard stacking. Would appreciate it to see what you can come up with:

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pursuit
- Zen Headbutt
- Meteor Mash
- Ice Punch

Chesnaught @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 6 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Drain Punch
- Spiky Shield

Basically the general premise of this core is that Metagross traps the Latis, which are generally the most common defoggers, leaving free realm for spikes stacking to take place. Chesnaught is the spiker of choice here because it has some pretty great defensive and offensive synergy already with gross. Chesnaught is able to switch in to bisharps, excadrills, some waters and other stuff that gross hates, while in return gross can check some things that ches really hates the most: latis(which get screwed by pursuit) and fairies. As a bonus, ches can also toss out seeds to potentially give some sort of recovery to gross. Core is notably weak to heatran and flyspam so rotom is a potential candidate for the next slot.

altaria for dismantling sableye fat teams is cool, and band tar rlly hasnt seen much play in xy despite still being strong as shit. sable really loves coming in on mons that cant setup/hit hard and rely on status to do damage, so rotom lando etc are natural targets for it to set up on. empoleon covers azu n ninja which both shit on altaria/tar, and loom cuz idk havent used it in a while and it might see some synergy alongside bandtar as a classic combo. team is naturally slow but cant rlly have a fast team around such a slow 2 mon core without much defensive synergy

Iridescent.
not having sub on lati makes it a lot weaker vs things like tran/toxic users, slow volturn, and opposing set up mons. it does allow lati to hit sableye though which is nice. however i think cm keld shits on sableye anyways so its not nec to have pulse on lati. if u still want no sub lati then a heal beller can maybe support it, but thats optional. 2 helmet users + spikes help dark types kill themselves thru resid, therefore lati doesnt need a move to hit darks.

spex galge hits so hard that any team w a non gard/eq altaria fairy mon can be taken advantage of. whats a great mon only hindered by its inability to damage fairies? conk. with conk + galge, the only things stopping bulk up sweep are fairies and flyings. galge gets huge hits off on the former and rotom slow volts on the latter. on top of all that the slow and weak lineup is taken advantage of by sableye which gyara sets up all over, which is nifty.
mostly experience, trial and error are involved ofc and feedback from ppl who use the teams also helps fix weaknesses

Assuming you still remember me id like to appologize for my past. Anyways ive done loads of teambuilding research and recently have been toying with mega altaria.... mixed mega altaria. The core is fairly defensive but probably not as unique like you want. Anyways here it is. i seriously hope you can forgive me for my shit cores from the past.

cant really do pictures as im on mobile but anyways. this core as i stated above is fairly defensive. It suffers quite a bit from things such as mold breaker drill and chansey who can either stall it out or can destroy the core with ease. Type wise all of the mons weaknesses are covered with tran helping altaria and rotom helping tran. mixed mega altaria is a deadly mon as a whole. for one due to most mega alts running physical sets (some dont carry fire blast so they get walled by ferro) a mixed set allows you to make sure you are not walled by things like tran AND ferro while hitting mons with hyper voice. The spread give mega alt some extra well needed bulk and the speed evs allows mega alt to speed creep and speed creeping trans (weird still but it helps). Naturally tran serves as the main hazard setter of the core and sp.def wall. and rotom helps keep offensive momentum as well as provide a well needed ground immunity. The team is in dire need of a physical sweeper or a wallbreaker as well as a defogger. i also apologize for any spelling errors as my phone does not auto correct. like i said above sorry for what happened in the past. (even though you might not care)

I think Sash Exca is a bit counterproductive on the birds team since if it gets up Rocks while getting brought to its Sash, it can't spin for Final Gambit Staraptor, Talon that lacks Roost, and Sub Pinsir.

I'd say drop one of the birds, i guess Staraptor since Swellow was requested, and add Lando-T with Rocks and Knock Off to bait in and get rid of Skarm's Shed Shell, plus it checks Sand Rush Exca which can 6-0 this team with Smooth Rock support. Then either Scarf Exca or EQ/Surf Lati@s can be used for hitting Heatran and Tyranitar, checking Rotom, and getting rid of hazards. Lati@s can switch in against Keld and Megaman, but Scarf Exca checks Jolly Talon which potentially 6-0s, and also beats M-Diancie, Raikou, and Scarf Magnezone. Kind of a tossup.

I'd also maybe drop M-Pinsir for M-Gyara since it sets up on and/or beats bird checks like Tyranitar, Heatran, Rotom-W, etc. It also can outspeed arguably the best check to birds, M-Manectric, at +1 with Jolly and guarantee a kill with neutral EQ (252 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Manectric: 298-352 (106 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO)

I know it's a lot of changes but i think the team can work regardless of having a Swellow on it. I also can't post the spreads i suggested since I'm on my phone, but they're nothing extraordinary or anything anyway.

On a separate note, that M-Latias team looks REALLY fun.

Cmon man,,,atleast tell CTC how the core works/functions in the current meta game. Don't just post a core and ask for a team.

I've been meaning to run a hyper offensive team like this, but I'm iffy on what spread of walls and tanks to use, and what second reciever mon (if any) can hit things that wall gardevoir. Gardevoir's speed is at the same magic number xerneas needs at +2, while the mew can hopefully chase things out by bluffing it's stallbreaker set, with taunt to cover roar/status mons that switch in on it after they see it use a setup move or physical attackers that setup alongside to overpower iron defense, which makes it unique from other mons that can do this, although it probbably has single use syndrome. Gardevoir is also fast enough unboosted to chase out enemy walls with it's powerful STAB if I can't use mew for some reason.

Its a bit like RT Starmie in that it seems retarded but works quite well. Its a decent counter to things such as Bisharp.
Yeah I have no doubt that it's legit. I just love how the only real difference between an innovative quality creative set, and a trash set is basically how well the set is supported by the rest of the team.

Pokemon is weird.

Holy crap you actually accepted it...... Thanks a ton CTC I've been trying to build around swellow for ages.

Ever since I laid eyes upon the team CTC made I knew I was going to put in Lando-T. I really like the idea of having an EQ Latios to bait and kill heatran (I assume you meant latios when you said latias since latios doesn't need investment although latias' healing wish would be awesome for this team) it certainly gets the job done more efficiently than excadrill does. Also I would have never thought of replacing Mega Pinsir with Mega Gyarados thank you for the suggestion. I have done some testing and am pleased to report that the team with these changes works really well. Thanks again CTC and Holy Dom

hi
mega sableye is a fucking god, walls gren, shits on stall, gallade, and 90%of the meta, its only weakness is fairy (i love koncking off clefable tho). i think victini is an amazing partner. its good agains clefable gardevoir. i know that azumarill rapes this "core" but noone uses it because of the nerf (for ex gunk shot gren). while it might not look perfect on paper, i really enjoy banded vcriate esspecialy in offencive meta.
you may even try trick room victini if you want. dont make full trick room team plz

Hey CTC, so I just realized that I am only good at building HO, and suck ass at building balance. But balance seems more consistent and less 50/50s etc. so I was hoping you could hook me up with a team built around these two. The idea was to use that mono attacking mega latias, but its literally deadweight if the opponent has a dark type. So once the figure out you are mega latias, they just save the dark type and its an easy win. So instead of just slapping on chesnaught and pretending my opponent will just let their dark type die I thought I would bluff having mega gyarados, so they dont try and save them. So the only thing I really need is something that is a good lure for dark types, I dont care if the dark type ends up killing the lure I just need a surefire way to deal with all dark types including mega sableye. I dont know the standard bulky dd gyara spread so I just picked this, you can change it if you know a better one. anyway here it is and thanks in advance.

Hey CTC, I just realized i am only good at building Balanced, and suck ass at building HO. So :

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Agility
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake / Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt
(btw the set can be changed, no Agility, other moves, etc...)

Sylveon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Baton Pass

Basically, Sylveon is a good partner for Metagross. Fairy / Steel have really good synergy. Sylveon lures Ferrothorn and Scizor for Metagross-Mega, that's pretty cool. If there is a Heatran in the opponent s'team, Sylveon can use Baton Pass and gain momentum for partners. Obviously, this core is weak to Fire-Types.

(i don't know if these spread are optimal, feel free to change they)

Sry for spaming a little but i really love the idea of rock polish lando the forgotten thread + lure infernape
Earth power, Focblast, psychic landorus has a few checks (after sr) beeing spedef gliscore, dragonite, gyara (regular form), bulky landorus-t, sylveon. HP ice infernape can lure for everything minus sylvon. What do you think? I know its not the best but infernape is my fav mon and polish landorus is so cool
Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rock Polish
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Psychic

Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 212 Atk / 44 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Close Combat
- Flare Blitz
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunder Punch
PS. You can run mienshao over infernape its the same but hp ice mien is less common altho less cooler than mixed ape

EDIT: team with these mons would be great but i think hp ice over focus blast on lando + mons that weaknen stuff that focblast hit (like toxicking the rotom, knocking off chansey etc) would be better and less gimmicky
Bisharp traps lati@s, knocks off skarm, mamo's freeze dry weakens the rotom. This core is more efective and less relies on the support, doesnt require on lures

Bisharp @ Dread Plate
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Oblivious
EVs: 244 Atk / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Freeze-Dry
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake

First time posting in this awesome thread, thanks CTC!

Anyway, I actually have a little bit more defensive/balanced core than some of the others suggested. Here it is:

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 124 HP / 252 Atk / 128 SDef / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Superpower/Quick Attack/Knock Off

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spd
Bold Nature
- Synthesis
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Leech Seed/Hidden Power Fire/Earthquake,etc...

So, I wanted to build a team around Mega-Venusaur, not only because Grass is my favorite type but also because its under prepared for in this meta (how strange to say that for once, M-venus isn't common?). Because it's been taken out of the spotlight from the meta shift, there are less HP flying and psychic moves running amuk as coverage. What this means is that once certain M-venusaur counters are taken out, M-venu has an easy time outsustaining opposing teams, especially against offense or balanced teams without recovery. The rise in dangerous threats like BD azumarill, M-altaria, and Manaphy just add to how well M-venu is starting to perform in this meta.

It's obviously not unstoppable, so I paired up Venusaur with Scizor. Traditionally, I usually use an Amoongus/Tyranitar core but now that Amoongus can be beat by BD zuzu, I was heavily in favor of using Venusaur + pursuit mon. The trouble with using certain pursuit 'mons is their horrible synergy with Venusaur. Tyranitar brings in Sand, Weavile doesn't have the bulk or typing to switch in, M-metagross obviously occupies a mega slot...so I was left between Bisharp and Scizor. In the end, I loved having U-turn momentum in the wings of my team, and pursuit can sometimes be a surprise factor. It also hard checks M-garde, which none of the non-mega pursuit users can do.

Wait, so why pursuit again? Because Gothitelle and Lati@s are currently running OU. Once I get rid of them, Venusaur has a much smoother ride for the match.

I could talk on and on about this core, how Venus takes on bulky waters that trouble Scizor, fighting attacks, etc...I might even post this in the Good Cores section if I can use the team pretty well!

Anyway, I prefer having a defensive spread for M-venus, only because I've used offensive M-venus extensively, and in practice, the lack of extra bulk goes a LONG way in what Venusaur can potentially deal with in exchange to kill a few steels or wear down a few pokes faster. But, if you decide to do a bulky offense team, use whatever you like.

Stall, Balanced, BO all can work this core so surprise me!

Some kind of bait for Gothitelle would also work wonderfully for this core because I can't risk having M-venus be the bait and risk double switching or otherwise.

Also, if you can find a better defensive spread for M-venus that has some special defense, that'd be swell.

Thanks in advance

Interesting core, sorry to not offer any constructive advice but I'm intrigued by the scizor spread. What does it accomplish? Been looking for a good balance of special bulk and physical attack on mine but I don't know what milestones to aim for.

Can you make a stall team on this core ?

Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Dark Pulse
- Calm Mind
- Recover

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 236 SpD / 20 Spe
Calm Nature
- Rest
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Sleep Talk

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 136 SpD / 120 Spe
Careful Nature
- Wish
- Body Slam
- Iron Head
- U-turn

I suppose that gliscor can be a good partner, because of the ground weakness shared by tentacruel and jirachi. If you can post the teambuilding process

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Earthquake
- Grass Knot

I have been messing around with most of the OU megas and haven't really had a chance to try Mega gross yet. It's also something that seems to be pretty important to build around for other teams to prepare for it, so I thought it'd be fun to try and use myself. The role of this pokemon is simply to dent holes in the opponents team or even a late game sweep once faster checks are gone. grass knot is for things that wall this set, like suicune, slowbro, swampert, etc.

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell

I chose sylveon, as it takes on the role of cleric for my team, especially for mega gross. It also is a lati check, so that my mega doesn't have to switch into it. standard cleric set, nothing too fancy with the moveset. enough SpD to survive 2 earth powers from lando i that aren't running sludge wave.

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Tail

A few mons that give this team somewhat of a problem so far are Scizor (namely cb), opposing mega gross, and lando t. I also hate dealing with heatran and ferrothorn on any other team, and wanted a mon that could kind of do all of that. This set really helps me achieve this. Stealth rock because hazards are nice for Mega gross, and dragon tail to help rack up damage for it. earthquake + fireblast for heatran and ferro. rocky helmet + rough skin for scizor, mega gross, and lando t. This also is a decent tank in its own right, which i never realized with its base 108hp, 95def, and 85 spd. So with wish support, it walls some other stuff during the game.

Don't know if you have any mons in mind to support this core. I really think tnak chomp is fun to use as a method of wearing down metagross's checks and getting rid of walls and such. Any feedback would be awesome.

Hello basedlord would you kindly help me salvage this core?

Chesnaught @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Leech Seed
- Spiky Shield
- Spikes
- Super Fang

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Ancient Power
- Flash Cannon

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Gyro Ball

Offensively it used to be supported by 2 coverage monsters Greninja and a random ORAS physical mega and a lati because those things are everywhere. What replaces Greninja now that it's gonna get b&?
