  • Rotom is good for revenging weakened mons because it has access to volt switch.
  • Watch out for Mega Steelix and Mega Camerupt as they can block volt switch and trick.

Team Options
========

  • Rotom thrives on hyper offensive teams as it can come in and provide both a pivot and a fast revenge killer.
  • Rotom is very good at breaking balance and stall teams as it can not only cripple physical attackers but handicap defensive walls by utilizing trick.
  • When you are predicting a switch into Mega Steelix or another ground type, go for will-o-wisp instead of volt switch to severely weaken that mon. You can also use willo-o-wisp to avoid sucker punch mind games.

Defensive
########
name: Defensive
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Will-O-Wisp
move 3: Shadow Ball
move 4: Pain Split
ability: Levitate
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 148 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========
  • Volt Switch - Decent STAB that provides momentum.
  • Will-O-Wisp- Will-O-Wisp allows Rotom cripple physical attackers.
  • Shadow Ball- Strong STAB that goes hand in hand with Thunderbolt.
  • Pain Split- Increases Rotom's longevity.
  • Thunderbolt is also an option as it is a stronger STAB than volt switch and lets you stay in as opposed to being forced to switch out when you attack.
  • Hex is also a viable option on this set. It is less reliable than shadow ball however if a mon is statused, hex can put in a lot of work.

Set Details
========
  • This defensive set can beat mons like Mega Steelix by will-o-wisping them and then pain splitting to get back your hp.

Usage Tips
========

  • When using this defensive set, beware of incoming fire types that try to absorb the will-o-wisp because most fire types in the game will outspeed this Rotom spread and hit you very hard.
  • This Rotom spread acts as a good flying and electric resist. For example, you can switch Rotom in on a Scythers aerial ace or Electivire's thunderbolt.
  • Be aware that this ev spread outspeeds adamant Kangaskhan in order to land a will-o-wisp before they ko you.

Team Options
========

  • Rotom thrives on hyper offensive teams because it can catch the opponent off guard. For example, hariyama is a great check to fire and ice spam if it runs thick fat. Landing a will-o-wisp on it can greatly help take it down.
  • Rotom is very good at breaking balance and stall teams as it can cripple physical attackers fairly easily.
  • When you are predicting a switch into Mega Steelix or another ground type, go for will-o-wisp instead of volt switch to severely weaken that mon. You can also use will-o-wisp to avoid sucker punch mind games.

item: Life Orb
evs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========
  • Substitute - Allows Rotom to protect itself from status such as toxic as well as avoid sucker punches.
  • Pain Split- Allows you gain back hp that you lose quickly due to life orb and substitute recoil.
  • Thunderbolt- Good STAB that can hit very hard because of its life orb.
  • Shadow Ball- Strong STAB that hits ghost, psychic and ground types harder than thunderbolt.

Set Details
========
  • Life Orb allows Rotom to hit hard as well as switch up moves.
  • EVS: The spread is to maximize speed while maximizing power at the same time.

Usage Tips
========

  • This set breaks down opposing teams.
  • Rotom's STAB's have near perfect neutral coverage so anything will not appreciate a life orb shadow ball or thunderbolt

Team Options
========

  • Rotom thrives on hyper offensive teams because it can nuke things with life orb hits as well as gain hp back due to pain split.
  • Rotom is very good at breaking balance and stall teams as it steal hp from bulky mons as well as put up a substitute to avoid toxic.
  • When you are predicting a switch into Mega Steelix or another ground type, go for shadow ball instead of thunderbolt to hit that mon harder.

Other Options
########

  • Dual Screens
  • Toxic/Thunder-Wave
  • Signal Beam for Malamar
  • Foul Play
  • Protect
  • Hex

Checks & Counters
########

**Ground-types**: Ground types can block Rotom's volt switch and therefore take away your momentum. Common ground types in NU at the moment include Sandslash, Mega Steelix, Mega Camerupt, Seismitoad and Rhydon.
**Mega-pokemon**: Mega Steelix and Mega Camerupt are the biggest threats to Rotom as they are bulky enough to take hits as well as block volt switches. Mega Camerupt can absorb will-o-wisps and volt switches therefore making it a notable counter. Mega Audino can block shadow balls and heal off will-o-wisps with its access to heal bell. Be aware of this as well.
**Hariyama**: Hariyama likes to come in and absorb volt switches and shadow ball's due to its good special bulk. In order to wear down this check, go for will-o-wisp with Rotom to halve its attack. When looking at your opponents team, if they have a reliable fire spam check, beware of guts Hariyama.
**Dark Types**: Dark types can come in relatively safely on a Rotom's shadow ball and pursuit trap it. Keep an eye out for liepard or sneasel as they are common dark types that carry pursuit.

mention tbolt and hex in defensive's moves (no slash)

for both scarf and specs, change the order of the moves to this: volt->sball->tbolt

btw idt specs needs hp water to break camel and lix, but if someone disagree it can stay (otherwise, remove it). i would only use hp water on ebelt or like scarf over tbolt if my team was extremely weak to camel and i need my scarf rotom to lure it

for subsplit, make the moves order: sub->pain split->thunderbolt->sball

counters n checks: dark-types, grass-types, anything decently bulky can take a hit from scarf and do a ton, etc.

and bro your team options have stuff that should be in usage tips lol. btw rotom doesn't rly break balance and stall by itself smh

can rotom really pull off SubSplit? it doesn't have the bulk to keep up Subs against stuff, and it doesn't really wall anything with its typing.

substitute is helpful for dodging sucker punches from cacturne for example as well as toxic's from more bulky mons such as mega steelix. Pain split is actually useful against bulky teams as it can get back a lot of its hp against fat mons due to it having such a small hp number.

I'm also sort of echoing doubts on SubSplit because no Volt Switch means it's just not as useful as the other sets but it's w/e either way

Anyway, QC thoughts on adding a Spell Tag Hex set? I know it was used a solid bit in SPL and it's definitely useful in this meta.

Also iplaytennislol this doesn't look updated, a lot of Soulgazer's check hasn't been implemented yet
