Doubles Diancie

Overview
########

Diancie is a big threat in the Doubles metagame because its Mega Evolution allows it to outspeed much of the metagame, it has a great offensive typing along with an outstanding STAB spread attack in Diamond Storm, and access to Earth Power and a STAB Moonblast to hit the Steel- and Fighting-type Pokemon that resist Diamond Storm. Mega Diancie has an advantage as a late-game cleaner thanks to Magic Bounce protecting it from Thunder Wave, Will-O-Wisp, Swagger, and sleep attacks, all of which can stop other sweepers cold. However, because it has to run mixed coverage to hit every relevant threat, Diancie's attacks often fall short of KOing, and Pokemon can take advantage of Diancie's many common weaknesses and lackluster defenses and severely damage it. Intimidate limits its sweeping potential as well, but it does have Clear Body before Mega Evolving to mitigate that somewhat.

move 2: Moonblast
move 3: Earth Power
move 4: Protect
item: Diancite
evs: 208 Atk / 48 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Hasty

Moves
========

Diamond Storm is Diancie's primary STAB attack because it has good Base Power, hits both foes, and has very good coverage type against much of Doubles. In addition, if Mega Diancie can accumulate many Defense boosts, it has an easier time getting past many of its checks, such as Landorus-T and Azumarill. Moonblast is its second STAB attack, hitting Fighting-types, which can switch into Diamond Storm, hard. Earth Power hits Steel-types such as Heatran and Aegislash, which resist Diancie's STAB attacks. Lastly, Protect keeps Diancie safe while Mega Evolving and can be used to stall out Tailwind and Trick Room in addition to keeping it healthy while partners take out its checks.

Set Details
========

The EVs maximize Speed because Mega Diancie needs to outspeed common threats such as Terrakion and Keldeo and has crucial Speed ties with Latios and Mega Metagross. The rest of its EVs go towards powering up Diamond Storm, with the exception of 48 Special Attack EVs to KO Bisharp and non-Shuca Berry Heatran. Hasty is the preferred nature because Diamond Storm can patch up the Defense drop.

Usage Tips
========

You should typically use Protect to safely Mega Evolve Diancie the first turn it's out and acquire its high Speed. From there, you can proceed to spam Diamond Storm, using coverage moves when necessary or using Protect while Diancie's partner damages the foes enough for Diamond Storm to KO. However, there are rare cases when it may be better not to Mega Evolve Diancie, such as when facing semi-Trick Room teams and wanting to out-slow certain threats, being forced to stay in and wanting to survive attacks, or waiting for Intimidate users to be taken out. Diancie works best late-game when everything on the opponent's team has accumulated damage, because Diamond Storm misses out on many KOs. Lastly, keep an eye out for lures such as Shuca Berry Heatran.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that can take out Diancie's checks make for good partners. For example, Life Orb Bisharp and Choice Scarf Kyurem-B can take out Choice Scarf Landorus-T, which can be a pain to Diancie. Wide Guard support from Aegislash or Hitmontop helps Diancie against Ground-types as well. Partners that can take out Steel-types, such as Landorus-T and Rotom-H, make for good partners as well. Helping Hand support, particularly from Pokemon such as Politoed and Cresselia, powers up Diancie's attacks, allowing it to nab KOs it would miss out on otherwise. Grass-types such as Shaymin-S can remove bulky Water-types that annoy Diancie, while Diancie takes out the Fire-types that threaten them. Tailwind support from Pokemon such as Suicune and Talonflame allows Diancie to get past its faster checks and be useful against other Tailwind teams. Redirection support is very helpful to it as well. Amoonguss can tank Water-type attacks aimed at Diancie, such as Azumarill's Aqua Jet. Rage Powder Volcarona can handle checks such as Bullet Punch Scizor and Mega Metagross.

Other Options
########

Diancie can run Substitute to deal with Intimidate easier and to protect itself for an extra turn. It can invest more into its Special Attack and use attacks such as Dazzling Gleam and Hidden Power Fire, which beats Ferrothorn and Escavalier, but the utility of Diamond Storm is hard to pass up. Diancie can set up dual screens easily thanks to Magic Bounce blocking Taunt, but it is outclassed in this role by Pokemon that can hold Light Clay, and using a Mega Pokemon as support is a waste of its power. Diancie has access to Skill Swap, which could pass Magic Bounce to setup sweepers, but that is rather niche and hard to accomplish. Lastly, Diancie can use an okay non-Mega Trick Room set, as it does have decent bulk and a good ability in Clear Body.

Checks & Counters
########

**Typing Advantage**: Many bulky Water-type Pokemon can check Diancie fairly easily. For example, Rotom-W, Milotic, Suicune, and Politoed can all take multiple hits and KO it with Hydro Pump. Azumarill can take it out quickly with Aqua Jet, and Ludicolo can outspeed and KO it in the rain. Bulky Steel-type Pokemon are also threatening. Aegislash (which can protect its partner from Diamond Storm with Wide Guard), Jirachi, and Shuca Berry Heatran can all switch in on three of Diancie's moves, take an Earth Power, and KO it with their STAB attacks. Scizor can KO it quickly with Bullet Punch. Mega Metagross Speed ties with it and can KO with Bullet Punch as well. Ferrothorn and Escavalier aren't even weak to Earth Power and can easily beat Diancie.

**Intimidate**: Choice Scarf Landorus-T can easily switch in on most of Diancie's attacks and force it out with a super effective Earthquake. Even if Diancie has Wide Guard support, it won't be doing much damage with a -1 Diamond Storm. Scrafty and Hitmontop can also switch in and out of Diamond Storm, which Diancie primarily uses, to weaken its power. They just need to be careful of Moonblast. Note that they all need to switch in after Diancie Mega Evolves, as it has Clear Body as an ability beforehand.

**Speed**: Faster threats, such as Shaymin-S, Choice Scarf Genesect, and Choice Scarf Excadrill, can easily outspeed and KO Diancie. However, they are unable to switch in easily.

**Speed Control**: Tailwind and Trick Room teams are a pain to Diancie because they allow threats to outspeed and dent Diancie before it has a chance to respond. Common Trick Room users include Cresselia, Aromatisse, and Gourgeist. Common Tailwind users include Suicune, Hydreigon, and Talonflame.

Overview
########
  • Great Speed tier and good offensive typing let's it threat a lot of the metagame.
  • Incredible ability for a sweeper that let's it ignore status like WoW/Thunder Wave/Sleep.
  • Great spamming move in Diamond Storm, and good coverage with Moonblast and Earth Power.
  • Because it goes mixed, its attacks often lack KO power, while many Doubles attackers have the power to KO it back, as Rock / Fairy has its fair share of weaknesses.
  • Intimidate can hurt it post mega evolving, but it has Clear Body before Mega Evolving which somewhat helps.

Mixed Attacker
########
name: Mixed Attacker
move 1: Diamond Storm
move 2: Moonblast
move 3: Earth Power
move 4: Protect
ability: Clear Body
item: Diancite
evs: 208 Atk / 48 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Hasty

Moves
========
  • Diamond Storm is a great, spread STAB attack that can deal a lot of damage to a lot of the metagame. If Defense boosts accululate, Diancie can beat some of it's original counters such as Lando-T.
  • Moonblast is it's other STAB that donks Fighting-types like Scrafty and Terrakion as well as Dragon-types EZ
  • Earth Power hits the steels that resists it's STAB such as Heatran and Mega Metagross
  • Protect keeps it alive and helps it mega evolve safely.
Set Details
========
  • Hasty is best because it spams Diamond Storm way more than its other coverage moves. Diamond Storm also can boost its Defense and patch up Naive's defense drop.
  • Evs KO Bisharp and Non-shuca Heatran with Earth Power and put everything else into spamming diamond storm.
Usage Tips
========
  • Mega Evolve ASAP so diancie can use it's speed and Magic Bounce to its fullest extent. However, it is possible to refrain from mega evolving in rare scenarios, such as not wanting to switch out but wanting to tank attacks such as Lando-T EQ. Or if facing semi TR and there are a lot of mons it might want to out-slow.
  • Spam Diamond Storm.
  • Remember to protect while mega evolving cause anything that outspeeds normal diancie can go first that turn.
  • Its attacks lack KO power, especially against neutral threats, so be careful with keeping it in, as it's defenses aren't that great. Careful it also misses out on some important KOs like on Keldeo
  • Great lategame cleaner
Team Options
========
  • Something to beat Landorus-T (LO Bisharp, Scarf Kyurem-B, etc)
  • Better Steel-type killers, as earth power can be lacking (Landorus-T, Volcarona, etc)
  • Helping Hand (Politoed, Cresselia, etc)
  • Tailwind (suicune, salamence,)
  • Redirection (Amoonguss, Togekiss, Jirachi, BULKY VOLCARONA etc)
Other Options
########
  • Substitute
  • Dazzling gleam but weak af
  • 252 Spa + HP Fire for Ferrothorn, Escavalier
  • Screens but nah
  • skill swap
  • Trick Room non mega set
Checks & Counters
########
**typing advantage**
  • Bulky Waters like Suicune, Rotom-W, Milotic, Azumarill (has aqua jet), Politoed, Ludicolo (in rain omg)
  • Bulky Steels like Aegislash, SCIZOR AND MEGA METAGROSS (which have bullet punch), Escavalier, Jirachi, Ferrothorn
**intimidate**
  • Landorus-T, scarf set wrecks
  • Hitmontop and Scrafty can easily pivot in and out with diamond storm.
**Speed**
  • Skymin wrecks it but can't switch in
**Speed Control**
  • Trick Room
  • Tailwind

Overview
  • Immune to status once mega thanks to Magic Bounce
Moves
  • DEF BOOSTS help you handle Physical Threats like Mkhan and can even stockpile to the extent where you end up beating counters such as Landorus-T
  • Mention Scrafty and Terrakion specifically for Moonblast since they can switch into Diamond Storm. Dragon-types like Garchomp are also worth a shoutout
  • Tran and Gross for EP
  • Protect also helps MEvo safely
Usage Tips
  • Mention Mega Evolvng early to help combat status like TWave and Spore later in the game.
Team Options
  • Bulky Volcarona is p much the only redirect mon who can take on Mega Metagross and Scizor which are big threats to MDiancie.

Add Escavalier, Jirachi, and Ferrothorn (and Scarf Gene?) to the list of Steels. I'd remove shuca tran, since it also needs Flash Cannon, not HP ice, making it even more specialized.

Amoonguss can redirect Moonblasts and Earth Powers and also ultimately wins with Giga Drain.

Mention HP Fire in OO as a result of things like Ferro and Escavalier that think they're hard counters, but that it's typically better to just have a Fire type teammate, since Diancie is almost always best with the main set (needs EP for more things). The 1 point speed reduction is a huge downside as well, since 110 is a big benchmark.

Pretty sure that the investment also ohkos subtran with EP, which is worth a mention.

Destress Diancie's weakness to intimidate, as Hitmontop, Scrafty, Salamence, Manectric, and Gyarados don't exactly appreciate Diancie's attacks. It's basically just Landorus-T that matters, and even doge can't switch in for free.

The bulky water is Rotom-w not rotom-h

Personally, I'd give TR non-mega a set of its own, not just OO. I've used it and found it quite good, as have several other good battlers. QC can discuss this, I guess.

I know this is WIP, but Naive lowers Special Defense, so Diamond Storm doesn't make up for its Defense drop. If you want you could use Hasty, but Hasty sucks on Mega Diancie, so I'd just remove that.

fixed, thanks yall.

I dont mind if there is a TR non mega set, i just don't feel like doing it myself :p. Someone can do it seperately l8r if they want to.

If you're going to use hp fire you want +SpA 252 EVs so basically any chip damage kills Ferrothorn. In my experience its not worth it without that much investment. (For OO)

Rest looks really good

OK if it's not going to get a TR non mega set right now, I can give this 2/3

When you write it up, please note my stuff about flat out beating 4 of the 6 most common Intimidate users (and threatening Gyarados too) ...but sadly not Landorus-T.
Add Amoonguss to Checks and Counters.
And with respect to Laurel's comment for the HP Fire point, sure, do mention neutral speed as an option since it's already losing to other 110s and it needs it for Ferro. ofc that then loses to +spe 100s so it's another big sacrifice. HP Fire is a lure, no more.

find someone who wants to do the write-up, then you can do the skeleton. otherwise that is just gonna sit there foreva

Arcticblast i'll do the write-up for non-Mega Diancie if you just want to do the skelly :)

On Mega Diancie

Usage tips
-make it clear that you Protect first turn because you have low Speed the turn of Mega Evolving

Checks and counters
-When mentioning Aegislash, can also mention Wide Guard to protect its teammate from Diamond storm.
-On Intimidate, maybe add a reminder that Intimidate doesn't work till after it Mega Evolves

This looks good and couldn't find anything else to add/change. You could also add stalling Tailwind, TR on Protect etc that stuff that people mention about Protect under Moves.

However, because it has to run mixed coverage to hit every relevant threat, Diancie's attacks often fall short of KOing (pretty subjective change; you can keep yours if it makes more sense) lack KO power, and Pokemon can take advantage of Diancie's many common weaknesses and lackluster defenses and severely damage it back.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Tailwind support from Pokemon such as Suicune and Talonflame allows Diancie to get past its faster checks and as well as allowing it to be useful against other Tailwind teams. Redirection support is very helpful to it as well. Amoonguss can tank Water-type attacks aimed at Diancie, such as Azumarill's Aqua Jet. Rage Powder Volcarona can handle checks such as Bullet Punch Scizor and Mega Metagross.

Other Options
########

Diancie can run Substitute to deal with Intimidate easier and to protect in addition to protecting itself for an extra turn. It can invest more into its Special Attack and use attacks such as Dazzling Gleam and Hidden Power Fire, which beats Ferrothorn and Escavalier, but the utility of Diamond Storm is hard to pass up. Diancie can set up dual screens easily thanks to Magic Bounce blocking Taunt, but it is outclassed in this role by Pokemon that which can hold Light Clay, and using a Mega Pokemon as support is a waste of its power.

Azumarill can take it out quickly with Aqua Jet, and Ludicolo can outspeed it and KO it in the rain. (because you only mention Water- and Steel-types, would it maybe be beneficial to separate this large paragraph into those two sections?)
