[OVERVIEW]
With a small, but specialized, movepool and an excellent base 135 Special Attack that is rare for an offensive Flying-type, Mega Pidgeot is capable of breaking through several otherwise impenetrable Pokemon in Battle Spot Singles such as Gliscor and Mega Venusaur. One of Mega Pidgeot's most interesting assets is its ability to answer Minimize Clefable and Drifblim thanks to its ability, No Guard. No Guard also gives Mega Pidgeot a very powerful tool in STAB Hurricane, an otherwise unreliable move thanks to its 70% accuracy. However, its viable offensive movepool is restricted to Hurricane, Heat Wave, Hidden Power, and Hyper Beam, a tiny selection that leaves Mega Pidgeot hard walled by common Pokemon such as Heatran and Rotom-W. It also has similar checks to Talonflame, a well-prepared-for threat. However, with some team support, Pidgeot functions well as a special wallbreaker and sweeper in the Battle Spot Singles metagame.

Moves
========

Hurricane is Mega Pidgeot's STAB move and its most spammable move; its reasonable 30% chance to inflict confusion on its target is a useful bonus. Heat Wave allows Mega Pidgeot to OHKO Scizor and Ferrothorn, as well as hit a whole slew of other Steel-types super effectively. Pidgeot's base 101 Speed is good but somewhat middling before it Mega Evolves; therefore, Protect is a useful choice for safely acquiring the Speed boost that allows Mega Pidgeot to outpace Pokemon such as non-Choice Scarf Garchomp, Terrakion, Mega Gallade, Mega Metagross, and Raikou. U-turn is another solid scouting option here, as non-Mega Pidgeot's Speed tier is good enough for it to not need Protect against a lot of threats; U-turn allows Pidgeot to scout for counters switching in and answer accordingly, maintaining your team's momentum. Substitute is similar to Protect in that it shields Pidgeot from most offensive attacks and status moves, but it differentiates itself with a potentially longer-lasting effect; it also has good synergy with the confusion from Hurricane's secondary effect. Lastly, Hidden Power Ice is a useful move for exploiting Mega Pidgeot's Speed tier and high Special Attack to heavily damage threats such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Mega Salamence. Roost is a useful move that can be used in either the third or fourth slot; however, running Pidgeot without Hidden Power Ice means that it cannot perform its niche of checking Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Mega Salamence quite as effectively, whereas losing Protect can make Pidgeot vulnerable to Pokemon such as Garchomp and Terrakion on the turn it Mega Evolves. Recovery is also not much of a priority for Pidgeot in Battle Spot Singles, where its frailty and the fast-paced nature of the format can limit the opportunities that Pidgeot has to heal itself.

Set Details
========

Mega Pidgeot's base 121 Speed is a valuable benchmark to have in a format where most of the relevant threats are base 100 Speed or faster; therefore, a Timid nature and 252 Speed EVs are essential in order to outspeed and KO dangerous threats such as Mega Salamence and Mega Lucario. 252 Special Attack EVs make Pidgeot's attacks as strong as possible, leaving the last 4 EVs to go into Defense or Special Defense.

Usage Tips
========

Mega Pidgeot beats a very specific number of threats and needs support for another specific group of threats. No Guard Hurricane and Heat Wave give it a solid matchup against Grass-types and Fighting-types such as Mega Venusaur, Serperior, weakened Conkeldurr, and Mega Lucario, and Hidden Power Ice gives it Dragon-slaying utility with its fantastic Speed tier — on the other hand, these three moves are completely walled by Pokemon such as Chansey, Tyranitar, Rotom-W, and Heatran. No Guard also allows Mega Pidgeot to completely bypass any and all evasion changes, completely nullifying Minimize strategies as a threat to your team. However, it also bestows perfect accuracy upon moves used by the opponent, making users of inaccurate moves such as Thunder and Stone Edge and OHKO moves such as Horn Drill and Sheer Cold very scary to face.

Team Options
========

Mega Pidgeot is a powerful attacker, but its shallow movepool makes it very predictable and easy to stop. Hurricane spam helps a lot versus its checks if Mega Pidgeot gets the confusion, but Mega Pidgeot will often find itself being forced out by a Tyranitar, Heatran, or Rotom-W, all of which are very common thanks to the ubiquity of Talonflame. As such, it's highly recommended that you come prepared with answers to these Pokemon to allow Pidgeot to have a much better time. Ground-types and Fighting-types are the best catch-all answers to these three Pokemon: Mold Breaker Excadrill's Earthquake can weaken them sufficiently for them to be picked off by Mega Pidgeot's Hurricane; Assault Vest Conkeldurr can throw out Drain Punches and Mach Punches while being able to absorb Rotom-W and Heatran's status moves with Guts and throw out Guts-boosted attacks in return; Landorus-T and Garchomp exacerbate Pidgeot's Ice weakness considerably but are still worth consideration for their powerful Earthquakes and other utilities; and Dugtrio is a niche, but decent, option for trapping and removing Tyranitar, Heatran, and grounded Electric-types such as Raikou.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Roost can be used as a form of recovery, but in a fast-paced format like Battle Spot Singles, staying healthy isn't really a priority for a fast, frail attacker like Mega Pidgeot. Mirror Move is a fun gimmick that synergizes well with Protect or Substitute to catch OHKO move users and Pokemon that use moves that they themselves are weak to (for example, Shadow Ball Gengar or Earth Power Heatran if a switch is predicted) off-guard. However, it's incredibly situational and, once again, Pidgeot can't really afford the moveslot. Hidden Power Grass, Hidden Power Fighting, and Hidden Power Ground are listed solely for the purpose of beating popular checks such as Rotom-W, Tyranitar, and Heatran, respectively. However, they have little utility, as Tyranitar still doesn't take much from any of them and none are capable of OHKOing their targets from full health. Agility can be used with a Modest nature to turn Mega Pidgeot into a boosting sweeper; however, Pidgeot lacks the bulk to boost in most cases and prefers the Speed tier that a Timid nature grants it. The extra power and Speed can however be useful if you find a boosting opportunity, making Agility a niche option. Hyper Beam is an obscenely powerful STAB move that has some utility in Battle Spot Singles where 1v1 situations are quite possible and Hurricane might not be strong enough to pick something off. However, Hyper Beam's side effect alone nullifies the majority of its value and makes it a niche option in most cases. Similarly to Talonflame, Pidgeot can make use of Tailwind to benefit its teammates, especially if it is expected to faint in the turn that Tailwind is used. Lastly, Whirlwind is an option for forcing boosted Pokemon such as Scolipede, Blaziken, and Minimize Chansey off the field before they can do too much damage. However, Pidgeot can't always make use of this thanks to its frailty relative to other users of phazing moves, especially given the extra layer of vulnerability that it gets from No Guard.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rotom-W and Rotom-H**: These two Pokemon are commonly seen threats that resist all of Pidgeot's commonly seen attacks and KO back with a super effective Electric-type move.

**Rock-types**: Rock-types such as Tyranitar and Tyrantrum resist both Hurricane and Heat Wave and tend to take little damage from Hidden Power Ice, significantly neutering Pidgeot's main forms of damage output. Meanwhile, they can do significant damage in return with a STAB Stone Edge or Rock Slide.

**Heatran**: Heatran's ability and set of resistances make it a hard stop to almost all forms of Mega Pidgeot; the only move with any chance of breaking through is Hidden Power Ground.

**Electric-types**: Mega Manectric and other Electric-type Pokemon such as Jolteon, Zapdos, and Thundurus-T can switch in on a predicted Hurricane and outspeed and OHKO Mega Pidgeot with a STAB move.

**Greninja**: Greninja's base 122 Speed allows it to consistently outspeed Mega Pidgeot and OHKO it with Life Orb-boosted Ice Beam. However, it is incapable of switching in on Hurricane, Hidden Power Grass, and Hidden Power Fighting.

Sure No Guard gets past evasion spam, but the only common Minimize user that Pidgeot can take on is Clefable, since Chansey/Blissey can tank all its special attacks. I'm not sure if that means it's worth taking out the mention of it, but maybe don't try selling it as its 'most attractive' quality.

All three of its pre-mega abilities are trash, but I think Big Pecks should be the default as it helps stop defensive drops from random Crunches you might receive when you switch in. I mean it's not like you'd be staying in regular forme to make use of the +1 evasion you get from being confused that Tangled Feet provides.

You'll need to take Work Up out of OO since it's a BW TM, making it unavailable in ORAS Battle Spot. I think HP Fighting could maybe sneak in as a way to hit Ttar (also Heatran, although it's pretty weak). I know I've spoken to you before about how I really do think that Modest+Agility can be its own set, but if you really don't agree then I'm cool if you leave it in OO. Tailwind gives the same boost but can benefit the team if you need to switch Pidgeot out.

If all those can be done then I'm cool with it - QC 1/3

Thanks for the rate - I agree that Pidgeot has no chance of getting past Blissey and Chansey ever, but they're so rarely used that I don't see them as being a massive drain on Pidgeot's main niche, as it soundly beats Clefable and Drifblim, the only two that are really commonly seen, as well as Chandelure. While "most attractive" is a bit of an oversell, I think that it is Pidgeot's main niche so I'm keeping that in. I'll change the wording up a bit though so it isn't quite as dramatic :]

Agreed on Big Pecks, I'll swap that in. Work Up can be replaced with HP Fighting, I thought it was still an XY TM but assumptions are bad... I'm still thinking about Modest+Agility but I'd like input from a couple other QC member before I come to a decision so I'll leave it in OO for now.

IMO slash Substitute on the third slot since Pidgeot doesn't really have much to do to begin with and sub + hurricane hax can be pretty annoying.

Question: (OO) How does Mirror Move work well against Minimize spammers? Their attack will always land due to No Guard, and Mirror Move won't copy it anyway, as it copies just attacks iirc.

Once one of the most useless Pokémon in the game competitively eh, this is really fluff but i'll leave that to GP cause its a pretty good opening sentence :P, the release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire has given Pidgeot a new lease on life with a Mega Evolution. However, with some team support Pidgeot can function well as a special hole puncher and sweeper in the Battle Spot Singles metagame.
ok, after reading your overview it was very broad and didn't really get into any specifics with bird jesus. You gave a couple of good things that made pidgeot unique, like no guard for minimize users and a specialized movepool. But you didn't really tell me what the movepool was or how this helps pidgeot (100% accurate hurricane). Nor did you really give me a reason to use bird jesus, like what roles does it fill and what sort of team it would fit on?

Checks & Counters
########
**Rotom-Wash and Rotom-Heat**: These two Pokémon are commonly seen threats that resist all of Pidgeot's commonly seen attacks and KO back with a super effective Electric move.

**Greninja**: This Pokémon's 122 base speed makes it capable of consistently outspeeding Mega Pidgeot and OHKOing with Life Orb Ice Beam. can this switch in? whats a scenario that you would encounter? This should probably move down to the bottom cause its just a check.

**Rock-types**: Chiefly Tyranitar. Pokémon with a Rock typing resist both Hurricane and Heat Wave, significanly neutering Pidgeot's main forms of damage output, and tend to take little damage from Hidden Power [Ice]. Meanwhile, they can do significant damage in return with a STAB Stone Edge or Rock Slide.

**Heatran**: Heatran's ability and set of resistances makes it a hard stop to almost all forms of Mega Pidgeot and allows it to wall the bird almost indefinitely: the only move with a chance of breaking through is Hidden Power [Ground]. mention that bird jesus can uturn on heatrans switch in to give it favorable matchup.

**Mega Manectric make this electric type pokemon**: Mega Manectric and other fast Electric Pokémon such as Jolteon and Choice Scarf Thundurus-T are easily capable of switching in on a predicted Hurricane and outspeeding and OHKOing Mega Pidgeot with a STAB Electric move.

pls put spaces inbetween each section, just makes it look better and easier to read.
So you need to touch up your overview and your Usage Tips.

I think that Roost needs to be slashed on the main set. Reason for this is that in longer battles you might be constantly switching into something like Ferrothorn or another defensive Pokemon where the Chip damage will rack up. If the opponent is carrying a counter you'll have to keep pidgeot healthy in longer battles.

I'm honestly not sure Roost needs to be in the main set, you obviously need Hurricane and Heat Wave for offence, then you need your Hidden Power to hit specific stuff, then the fourth (or third in this case) slot really needs Protect or U-turn (or Sub) to help you mega evolve or get out of annoying matchups. Roost there would mean there's too many slashes in that slot, but I can't see it being slashed in over Hidden Power since it's more important in 3v3 to hit key threats than the sustain Roost provides (this may be a habit from your 6v6 history Mont :p).

I'm happy for people to debate this, but I'm pretty happy for Roost to stay in OO

Yeah this mon's straightfroward. Add Zapdos into counters. Actually, Electric mons in general make this thing sad, so you should probably group them.
Tailwind and Whirlwind in OO because there really isn't much more Pidgeot can do.

There were a few problems here with phrasing and punctuation and so but that's up to GP to fix so I won't talk much about it.

I think you should change the mention of "Sheer Cold" to OHKO moves in general, as Horn Drill is also quite popular. I don't think any OHKO moves besides Horn Drill and Sheer Cold are used though, so if you wanna just keep it the same and drop Horn Drill in, then that's OK too. You could also add status moves like Toxic and Will-o-Wisp that aren't low accuracy.

Maybe Moody Glalie isn't the best example for Whirlwind uses. You do mention that it is made vulnerable, but does it actually have any chance at all? Whirlwind always goes last and Sheer Cold will always hit. Seems like it's an impossible situation unless he's out of PP. You could mention Clefable or Chansey here as well just to give an idea.

Finally, I kinda wanted a move to be slashed with HP Ice (as getting HPs can be somewhat difficult in-game) but if it's the best move and possible to get I guess it should stay. I can't think of any similar moves that would be slashed with it anyway.

I'm not so sure about the name (I don't know if we are supposed to use joke names or whatever or if ™ will even show up in the dex) but I guess that's another thing up to GP to decide.

Implemented your suggestions on Sheer Cold and Whirlwind; however, I feel that the only non-niche moves that could replace Hidden Power Ice are other types of Hidden Power, and Ice is by far the easiest one to get (it only needs a spread of 31/even/even/31/31/31, which you'll likely get by breeding for 5IV -Atk anyway). I'm just going to go through and get rid of any really glaring GP errors, but then I'll open it up to the experts. Thanks Hula ^.^

Recovery is also not much of a priority for Pidgeot in Battle Spot Singles, where its frailty and the fast-paced nature of the format can limit the opportunities that Pidgeot has to heal itself. (I'm not really sure if we can take out the Roost mention or not. I'd personally take it out on the grounds that it's stated to be an niche move and should, thus, belong in other options where we state the exact same thing and other moves similar to Roost in terms of effectiveness. However, I know that we can't assume that the reader is reading every last section...)

As such, it's highly recommended that you come prepared with answers to these Pokémon to allow Pidgeot to have a much better time. Ground-types or Fighting-types are the best catch-all answers to these three Pokémon; : (Add Colon) Excadrill and it's Mold Breaker Excadrill's Earthquake can bust through them easily, leaving them with enough HP to pick them off with Mega Pidgeot's Hurricane; Assault Vest Conkeldurr can throw out Drain Punches and Mach Punches, (RC) while being able to absorb Rotom Rotom-W and Heatran's status moves with Guts and throw out Guts-boosted attacks in return; Landorus-T and Garchomp exacerbate Pidgeot's Ice weakness considerably but are still worth consideration for their powerful Earthquakes and other utilities; and Dugtrio is a niche, but decent, option for trapping and removing Tyranitar, Heatran , (AC) and grounded Electric-types like Raikou.

(This section should not be in list format, it should be a paragraph)
Roost, Mirror Move, Hidden Power Grass, Hidden Power Fighting, Hidden Power Ground, Agility, Hyper Beam, Tailwind, Whirlwind

- (Remove Paragraph Break and Dash) Roost can be used as a form of recovery but in a fast-paced format like 3v3 Battle Spot Singles, staying healthy isn't really a priority for a fast and frail attacker like Mega Pidgeot. It can't really afford the moveslot anyway.
- (Remove Paragraph Break and Dash) Mirror Move is a fun gimmick that synergises synergizes well with Protect or Substitute to catch off guard Pokemon like OHKO move spammers users and random Pokemon that use moves that they themselves are weak to (for example, Shadow Ball Gengar or Earth Power Heatran if a switch is predicted). However, it's incredibly situational and, once again, Pidgeot can't really afford the moveslot.
- (Remove Paragraph Break and Dash) Hidden Power Grass, Hidden Power Fighting and Hidden Power Ground are listed solely for the purpose of beating Pidgeot's top two popular checks, Rotom-W/H Rotom-W and Rotom-H, Tyranitar, (AC) and Heatran, (AC) respectively (I'm gonna guess this is what the sentence was about though I'm still confused about how Rotom-H is beaten by these Hidden Powers...idk take a look at it yourself I'm probably misinterpreting things ^^`). Outside of that, they have little utility as Tyranitar still doesn't take much from any of them and none are capable of OHKOing their targets (A bit strange that they are noted as having "Little use beyond that" when they can't do what they're intended to begin with...consider rewording the last sentence?).
- (Remove Paragraph Break and Dash) Agility can be used with a Modest nature to turn Mega Pidgeot into a boosting sweeper; however, Pidgeot lacks the bulk to boost in most cases and prefers the speed tier that a Timid nature grants it. The extra power and speed can be useful if you can find a boosting opportunity, making Agility a niche but usable (If something is "niche" I think it's safe to say it's also "usable") option.
- (Remove Paragraph Break and Dash) Hyper Beam is an obscenely powerful STAB move that has some utility in 3v3 Battle Spot Singles, (RC) where 1v1 situations are quite possible and Hurricane might not be strong enough to pick something off. However, Hyper Beam's side effect alone nullifies the majority of it's its value and makes it a niche option in most cases.
- (Remove Paragraph Break and Dash) Similarly Similar to Talonflame, Pidgeot can make use of Tailwind to benefit its teammates, especially if it is predicted expected to faint in the turn that Tailwind is used.
- (Remove Paragraph Break and Dash) Lastly, Whirlwind is an option for forcing boosted Pokémon such as Scolipede, Blaziken, (AC) or Minimize Chansey off the field before they can do too much damage. However, Pidgeot can't always make use of this thanks to its relative frailty relative to other users of phazing moves, especially given the extra layer of vulnerability that it takes gets from No Guard.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rotom-Wash Rotom-W and Rotom-Heat Rotom-H**: These two Pokémon are commonly seen threats that resist all of Pidgeot's commonly seen attacks and KO back with a super effective Electric Electric-type move.

**Rock-types**: Chiefly Tyranitar. Pokémon with a Rock typing, (AC) namely Tyranitar, (AC) resist both Hurricane and Heat Wave and tend to take little damage from Hidden Power Ice, significanly significantly neutering Pidgeot's main forms of damage output, (RC) and tend to take little damage from Hidden Power Ice. Meanwhile, they can do significant damage in return with a STAB Stone Edge or Rock Slide.

**Heatran**: Heatran's ability and set of resistances makes it a hard stop to almost all forms of Mega Pidgeot and allows it to wall the bird almost indefinitely (More or less a rephrasing of what you just said): the only move with a chance of breaking through is Hidden Power Ground.

**Electric-types**: Mega Manectric and other Electric Electric-type Pokémon such as Jolteon, Rotom Rotom-A, Zapdos, (AC) and Thundurus-T are easily capable of switching in on a predicted Hurricane and outspeeding and OHKOing Mega Pidgeot with a STAB Electric move.

**Greninja**: This Pokémon's base 122 base speed Speed makes it capable of consistently outspeeding Mega Pidgeot and OHKOing it with Life Orb Ice Beam. However, it is incapable of switching in on Hurricane, Hidden Power Grass, (AC) or Hidden Power Fighting.

[OVERVIEW]
Once one of the most useless Pokemon in the game competitively, the release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire has given Pidgeot a new lease on life with a Mega Evolution. (I know flavor like this is nice, but omit it unless absolutely necessary in an Overview) With a small, but specialized, movepool and an excellent base 135 Special Attack specially offensive stat spread that is rare in an offensive Flying-type, Mega Pidgeot is capable of breaking through several otherwise impenetrable Pokémon in Battle Spot Singles such as Gliscor and Mega Venusaur. However, its viable offensive movepool is restricted to Hurricane, Heat Wave, Hidden Power, and Hyper Beam, a tiny selection that leaves it Mega Pidgeot hard walled by common Pokemon (no accent on the 'e' for on-site analyses) such as Heatran and Rotom-W. It also has similar checks to Talonflame, a well-prepared-for threat. However, with some team support, Pidgeot functions well as a special wallbreaker and sweeper in the Battle Spot Singles metagame.

Moves
========
Hurricane is Mega Pidgeot's STAB and its most spammable move; its reasonable 30% chance to inflict confusion on its target is a bonus neat side effect that allows you to hax your way out of an awkward situation should the need arise (I don't think you can explicitly suggest haxing your way out in an analysis in this manner lol). Heat Wave is Pidgeot's most relevant form of coverage; it allows Mega Pidgeot to OHKO Scizor and Ferrothorn, as well as hit a whole slew of other Steel-types super effectively. Non-Mega Pidgeot's 101 Speed is good but somewhat middling before it Mega Evolves; therefore, Protect is a useful choice for safely acquiring the Speed boost that allows Mega Pidgeot to outpace Pokemon such as non-Choice Scarf Garchomp, Terrakion, Mega Gallade, Mega Metagross, and Raikou. U-turn is another solid scouting option here as Non-Mega Pidgeot's Speed tier is good enough not for it to not need Protect against a lot of threats; U-turn allows Pidgeot to scout for counters switching in and answer accordingly, maintaining your team's momentum. Substitute is similar to Protect in that it shields Pidgeot from most offensive attacks and status moves, but differentiates itself with a potentially longer-lasting effect; it also has good synergy with the confusion from Hurricane's secondary effect. Lastly, Hidden Power Ice is a useful move for exploiting Mega Pidgeot's Speed tier and high Special Attack to heavily damage threats like Garchomp, Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Mega Salamence. Roost is a useful move that can be used in either the third or fourth slot; however, running Pidgeot without Hidden Power Ice means that it cannot perform its niche of checking Gliscor, Landorus-T and Mega Salamence quite as effectively, whereas losing Protect can make Pidgeot vulnerable to Pokémon such as Garchomp and Terrakion on the turn it Mega Evolves. Recovery is also not much of a priority for Pidgeot in Battle Spot Singles, where its frailty and the fast-paced nature of the format can limit the opportunities that Pidgeot has to heal itself.

Set Details
========
Mega Pidgeot's base 121 Speed is a valuable benchmark to have in a format where most of the relevant threats are base 100 Speed or faster; therefore, a Timid nature and 252 Speed EVs are essential in order to outspeed and KO dangerous threats like Mega Salamence and Mega Lucario. 252 Special Attack EVs makes Pidgeot's attacks as strong as possible, leaving the last 4 EVs to go into Defense or Special Defense.

Usage Tips
========
Mega Pidgeot is a very specialized Pokemon that beats a very specific number of threats, while needing support for another specific group of threats. No Guard Hurricane and Heat Wave give it a solid match-up against Grass-types and Fighting-types like Mega Venusaur, Serperior, weakened Conkeldurr, (add comma) and Mega Lucario, (add comma) and Hidden Power Ice gives it Dragon-slaying utility with its fantastic Speed tier(em dash)on the other hand, these three moves are completely walled by Pokemon such as Chansey, Tyranitar, Rotom-W, and Heatran. No Guard also allows Mega Pidgeot to completely bypass any and all evasion changes, completely removing Minimize strategies as a factor for your team. However, it also bestows perfect accuracy upon moves used by the opponent as well, making users of inaccurate moves such as Thunder and Stone Edge and OHKO moves such as Horn Drill and Sheer Cold very scary to face.
