Not QCing myself because that's tacky. Also somewhat WIP.

[OVERVIEW]
Blaziken is, without a doubt, one of the premier offensive threats in Battle Spot Singles, and for multiple good reasons – it is powerful, fast, and versatile. It gets STAB on two of the most formidable offensive types in the game, backed up by having access to high Base Power attacks on top of strong offensive stats (increased even further in its Mega forme). To top it all off, it has access to one of the best abilities in the game, Speed Boost, which helps patch up its rather average base Speed, allowing it to truly exercise its immense raw power and also function as a revenge killer. The possibilities don't end there – Blaziken is devastating in both Mega and non-Mega formes, allowing for flexible teambuilding, and can even pull off a supporting role with Baton Pass.

As strong as Blaziken is, however, it is quite frail and is weak to some common types, meaning that if Blaziken does not KO its target, it will often be subject to serious retaliation. Its STAB moves also have drawbacks that can be taken advantage of, making Blaziken somewhat prediction-reliant. They are also contact moves, meaning Rocky Helmet can be a nuisance. Despite Blaziken being blindingly fast with Speed Boost, its weaknesses to Water and Flying mean that it can be revenge killed by Aqua Jet and Gale Wings Brave Bird. Its reliance on Protect + Speed Boost to cover its rather average initial Speed can also be taken advantage of in the form of a free switch in. Nevertheless, Blaziken simply has too many advantages to be taken lightly. It has proven from time to time, with its consistent appearance in the top 12 of the PGL usage stats, that it is an omnipresent threat, and it shows no signs of slowing down.

Moves
========

Flare Blitz and Superpower / High Jump Kick serve as powerful STAB moves, backed by Blaziken's titanic base 160 Attack. Superpower is more reliable than High Jump Kick, but the Attack drop deters repeated usage and can make sweeping difficult. High Jump Kick offers even more power and no stat drawbacks, but it can miss and severely cripple Blaziken, often leading to its demise. It is important to keep in mind common Protect users and Ghost-type Pokemon when using that move.

Regardless, the sheer strength of these moves often demand opponents to have Pokemon that either resist both or pack extremely high physical bulk. Even then, Blaziken has options around those. Knock Off smashes apart Latios, non-mega Latias, and Chandelure and deals solid damage to Cresselia and Slowbro. It can remove Rocky Helmet, relieving the passive pressure Blaziken gets from repeatedly using contact moves. Stone Edge destroys Talonflame and Mega Charizard Y and can make Salamence, Gyarados, and Dragonite think twice before switching in. However, its accuracy can be rather problematic, so it may be wise to run Rock Slide instead. Thunder Punch can be used to smash Gyarados and Azumarill, although it hits no other notable targets. If the bonus coverage is not needed, Blaziken can use Swords Dance to boost its Attack into sky-high levels, allowing it to sweep with ease. Protect is mandatory in order to guarantee a turn of Speed Boost, especially during the turn Blaziken Mega Evolves.

Set Details
========

As with most glass cannon sweepers, maximizing Attack and Speed is recommended to hit as hard and as quickly as possible. With maximum Speed, Mega Blaziken can attempt to Speed tie with the likes of Mega Charizard X and Volcarona, potentially pulling a clutch victory. Adamant is recommended over Jolly, as Blaziken outruns every relevant unboosted Pokemon anyways at +1 Speed.

Both Blaze and Speed Boost are viable abilities to choose from for the base Blaziken. Blaze may sound odd at first, but if you're going to Mega Evolve Blaziken anyways, having Speed Boost on the base forme can be pointless. With Blaze, Blaziken has an incentive to not immediately mega evolve. Sometimes odd scenarios in which Blaze is more useful can happen, such as the enemy Porygon2 being able to potentially Trace Speed Boost and coming out clutch, or times when Blaziken needs the power boost from Blaze to KO something. Regardless, these situations are incredibly rare. Speed Boost allows for more teambuilding flexibility - some teams will prefer having two Mega Pokemon but may often not use them together. In the cases where both Pokemon are required in one squad, Blaziken can forgo its Mega Evolution and remain relevant due to Speed Boost.

In short, choose Blaze if Blaziken will be your only Mega Evolution on the team and choose Speed Boost if you have another potential Mega Evolution.

Usage Tips
========

As a Mega Pokemon, Blaziken will often be the center of your team's focus. Evaluate the number of enemies Blaziken can defeat in Team Preview before deciding to bring it in, then bring the appropriate amount of support once you decide on that. It may not be the best idea to bring it if your opponent has two or more Blaziken checks or two or more Pokemon that can outduel it. For example, a team with Cresselia / Azumarill / Talonflame / Aegislash / Garchomp / Mega Kangaskhan is probably not something you should bring Blaziken into.

Due to the side effects of Blaziken's STAB moves combined with its frailty, it is important to note that mispredictions can be immediately costly. Be careful with using High Jump Kick if there are enemy Ghost-types around, or if Blaziken is facing a common Protect user such as Heatran or enemy Blaziken. Speaking of Protect, try not to be predictable when using it, as it can lead to the opponent getting a free switch to a check.

Blaziken's sheer offensive strength allows it to be used as both a wallbreaker and a cleaner, although it is more proficient at the latter. With that and its resistances, switching Blaziken into direct attacks is possible, despite its overall frailty. However, Blaziken should primarily be switching in to revenge kill a fallen teammate so it does not take too much damage and subsequently knock itself out via Flare Blitz recoil.

Team Options
========

Zapdos and Rotom-W cover most of Blaziken's checks, such as Azumarill, Salamence, Gyarados, Slowbro, and Talonflame. Both of them can use Volt Switch to help bring Blaziken in easier. In turn, Blaziken can threaten Grass-types that beat Rotom-W and can defeat certain Pokemon that give Zapdos issues, such as Greninja, Tyranitar, and Gengar. Ferrothorn can defeat Water-types such as Suicune, threaten Cresselia with passive damage, and set up Stealth Rock to aid Blaziken's sweep. Zapdos's Fighting resistance helps turn the trio of Zapdos / Blaziken / Ferrothorn into a solid balanced squad. Blaziken / Rotom-W / Ferrothorn is also another great core, featuring the Fire / Water / Grass combination. Thundurus can fulfill a somewhat similar role as Zapdos and offers more power in exchange for reduced durability.

Stealth Rock in general can aid Blaziken massively. A number of Blaziken's checks are weak to it (most notably Talonflame). Furthermore, Stealth Rock ensures that Blaziken will 2HKO Suicune with High Jump Kick. A few notable Stealth Rock users include Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Ferrothorn.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves

Overheat batters physically bulky Pokemon such as Hippowdon and Zapdos. It reliably destroys Aegislash as well and, (AC) because it is special, it won't be affected by Mawile's Intimidate. Hidden Power Ice OHKOes Landorus-T, Gliscor, Garchomp, and Mega Salamence. Superpower and High Jump Kick are strong STAB options despite lacking full investment. Protect is a necessity to quickly patch Blaziken's mediocre Speed.

Set Details
========

Blaziken's talents extend to its non-Mega usage. With a mixed set, Blaziken can carve out an offensive niche that is not outclassed by its Mega Evolution. Sporting formidable 120 / 110 offenses backed by Life Orb, Blaziken can still dish out tremendous amounts of damage and even slightly outclass its Mega Evolution power-wise if it attempts to pull off the same set. Here are some calculations to demonstrate Blaziken's power.

  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 182-218 (99.4 - 119.1%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO [this doesn't change with 252 SpA]
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Salamence: 177-208 (104.1 - 122.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 52 Atk Life Orb Blaziken Superpower vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Heatran: 203-242 (102.5 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 52 Atk Life Orb Blaziken Superpower vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 218-257 (102.8 - 121.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 179-213 (107.1 - 127.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Zapdos: 140-165 (71 - 83.7% + 35.5 - 42.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gengar: 134-160 (98.5 - 117.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
With 212 Speed EVs, Blaziken's Speed reaches 208 at +1, outspeeding Choice Scarf Rotom formes and base 135 Speed Pokemon such as Mega Manectric and Mega Lopunny. Maximizing Speed is a viable option, as Blaziken can outrun up to Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Beedrill and Mega Sceptile at +1.

Usage Tips
========

This set can function as a lure, so it may be in your best interest to carry a Pokemon that appreciates certain checks baited and removed by Blaziken. However, some people may expect it if you don't Mega Evolve Blaziken. Try predicting your opponent's usual check to it on the switch before he or she suspects something is up and punishes you for it. Remember that this Blaziken's Fighting-type STAB move is not as powerful, so enemies such as Suicune and Azumarill can be sent in more comfortably.

Team Options
========

Because this set does not require Blaziken to Mega Evolve, feel free to use Mega Pokemon in conjunction with it. Mega Gengar can destroy Mega Slowbro and threaten Cresselia and Azumarill, while Blaziken scares off Dark-type Pokemon such as Bisharp and Hydreigon. Mega Salamence appreciates Blaziken's ability to threaten Skarmory, Tyranitar, Zapdos, and Porygon2.

As mentioned before, Blaziken can lure enemies with this set. There are some Pokemon that can take advantage of a successful bait. For example, Aegislash and Mega Kangaskhan appreciate Blaziken dealing severe damage to Hippowdon, and Mega Venusaur can have a field day if Blaziken can successfully bait and destroy Mega Salamence.

[SET]
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Swords Dance / Bulk Up
move 2: Protect
move 3: Baton Pass
move 4: High Jump Kick / Blaze Kick
ability: Speed Boost
item: Focus Sash / Weakness Policy
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly / Impish

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Swords Dance and Protect allow Blaziken to quickly stack stat boosts to Baton Pass to teammates. Bulk Up + Weakness Policy is also viable for greater payoff potential, but this strategy is less reliable. High Jump Kick lets Blaziken hurt foes if it absolutely needs to, but it should be used sparingly, especially because missing or hitting a Rocky Helmet Pokemon will waste its Focus Sash. Substitute with Leftovers is viable if your recipient Pokemon requires multiple Speed boosts. It can also block predicted Thunder Waves, allowing for a safer pass. It also blocks Imposter so Ditto doesn't turn the boosts against the recipient.

Set Details
========

252 HP EVs are used for the best overall bulk because this set will not be attacking much. Maximum Speed allows Blaziken to Baton Pass away with minimum Speed boosts, assuming the recipient does not require multiple boosts. There is also the fact that there really aren't better stats to invest the EVs in, assuming Jolly.

Impish is also viable with maximum HP and Defense EVs. Blaziken can take a Choice Band-boosted Brave Bird from Talonflame after a Bulk Up, activate Weakness Policy, and Baton Pass away. It will also be guaranteed to survive Garchomp's Earthquake without any defensive boosts.

Usage Tips
========

This set can work quite well as a lead, but beware if the enemy has potential phazers such as Suicune. Priority moves can also ruin Baton Pass. If you anticipate the foe having a priority move, make sure Blaziken uses Baton Pass in a healthy state before its HP gets too low and it can be picked off. Don't make your Baton Passes predictable. Oftentimes, you may want to Baton Pass as soon as Blaziken gains sufficient boosts. You don't always have to Baton Pass only when you're unable to find room to boost any longer, because that guarantees that your next turn will be Baton Pass. This means your opponent can easily punish your recipient.

Team Options
========

Mega Kangaskhan is the best recipient for Blaziken's boosts. It is bulky enough to take most incoming punishment and possesses the raw strength to simply batter defensive threats with a boost. It also bypasses Sturdy and Focus Sash thanks to Parental Bond. Mega Mawile is another fearsome ally - a speedy Mega Mawile can be terrifying due to how much raw damage it deals. It also resists Brave Bird, Ice Shard, Sucker Punch, and Extreme Speed and is bulky enough to withstand Aqua Jets and Mach Punches, making revenge killing it difficult. Generally, any physical attacker will work as a teammate depending on the situation. For example, Blaziken can Baton Pass to Mega Salamence to avoid Earthquake, or Baton Pass to Garchomp to avoid Thunder Wave.

Mega Latias deserves a special note for being able to act as an unexpected partner. With sufficient boosts, Mega Latias can deal tremendous amounts of damage with Stored Power. Use the Bulk Up / Weakness Policy set with this.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Rock Slide is a viable alternative to Stone Edge if accuracy is a concern. If you don't care too much about opposing Salamence or Gyarados, the power drop will not be a huge issue. Toxic can be used to wear down bulky, sustaining checks such as Mega Slowbro, Cresselia, and Hippowdon. Note that regular Slowbro can still be an issue due to Regenerator, however. Low Kick can be used if High Jump Kick's and Superpower's drawbacks are too much, but its lower Base Power against certain important targets such as Rotom-W and Garchomp can be a problem. Will-O-Wisp is an unusual choice to weaken Azumarill, Salamence, Gyarados, and Dragonite and can be used to cripple some enemies in a pinch. Brave Bird may seem appealing, but it only hits Mega Venusaur.

On the mixed set, Hidden Power Electric and Grass are viable alternatives - the former smashes Gyarados and the latter takes down Quagsire, Swampert, and Gastrodon. Both options also deal respectable damage to Slowbro. Fire Blast can be used instead of Overheat for a more consistent damage output, but it might fail to OHKO Aegislash. On the Baton Pass set, Blaziken can surprise enemy phazers by carrying Roar.

Blaziken can utilize Scope Lens + Focus Energy for fun. This amplifies Blaziken's critical hit rate on regular moves to 100% and, because critical hits ignore stat drops, Blaziken can freely spam Overheat and Superpower at 150% damage without suffering from the offensive stat drops unless it hits a foe that has Shell Armor or Battle Armor or is shielded by Lucky Chant. It is not as good as it sounds, however, as the turn Blaziken uses to set up Focus Energy can be used for something more productive, such as setting up a Swords Dance. However, Baton Passing Focus Energy and Speed boosts to Sniper Kingdra can be devastating.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Pokemon that Resist Blaziken's STAB Moves**: Slowbro, Salamence, Gyarados, Talonflame, Azumarill, Mega Latias, Mega Altaria, and Dragonite can tank Blaziken's STAB attacks easily. Mega Slowbro will completely wall Blaziken if it lacks a super effective Hidden Power.

**Suicune**: Although High Jump Kick can 2HKO Suicune with high rolls, Suicune can easily handle everything else Blaziken throws at it. Rocky Helmet can knock Blaziken to Scald's KO range and Roar can nullify the Baton Pass set very easily.

**Cresselia**: Cresselia is bulky enough to withstand every attack Blaziken throws at it and can threaten back with Thunder Wave and Psychic. It can also heal off the damage Blaziken dealt with Moonlight. Knock Off can nullify the threat of Cresselia's Rocky Helmet, however.

**Hippowdon**: High physical bulk, access to reliable recovery, a phazing move, and a STAB Earthquake can make short work of Blaziken's Mega and Baton Pass sets. If nothing else, Rocky Helmet and Sand Stream can both quickly deplete Blaziken's health.

**Priority**: Note that while Blaziken resists most priority moves, it is weak to Flying and Water, making priority users such as Talonflame, Mega Pinsir, Azumarill, and Crawdaunt tremendous issues. Similarly, Prankster Thunder Wave can shut down Blaziken's sweeping attempt, although it will often come at the cost of that Pokemon.

**Pokemon with Rocky Helmet**: Blaziken typically runs contact moves, meaning Rocky Helmet can punish it, especially when combined with Flare Blitz's recoil.

**Prediction**: Correctly predicting Blaziken's Fighting-type STAB move and responding to it appropriately can severely weaken Blaziken. Sending a Zapdos into Blaziken's Superpower, for example, lowers its Attack so that Zapdos can comfortably stall it. Likewise, sending a Ghost-type Pokemon into High Jump Kick will quickly make Blaziken regret the turn.

Ok time to nitpick!

General thing: maybe give a mention of Stealth Rock on the first two sets. Stealth Rock can be annoying to set up, but screwing up the more offensive Talonflames can be really helpful for Blaziken by reducing Talonflame's amount of switch-ins.

Mega Sweeper

-Personally, I'd just change this to "physical attacker" and slash in Life Orb. I think Mega Blaziken is better in a vacuum for sure (and should be the first slash in), but I think not using up a Mega slot and powering up is really valuable for some teams, especially teams that like to use Blaziken to revenge kill stuff! If you do slash it in though, I think in set details you should mention the consequences of Life Orb. The biggest issue with Life Orb is that it gets worn down REALLY fast because of Life Orb recoil, Flare Blitz, and Rocky Helmet. Also: Regular Blaziken should run Jolly, so it can outspeed Mega Manectric and Mega Lopunny after one Speed Boost.

-To add to the whole LO Blaziken thing, that set really likes Mega Gengar as a partner: it can smash some of the more defensive mons for ya.

Mixed

- I think you should mention Fire Blast in set details. Fire Blast can be a cool alternative to Overheat because its harder to play mind games with Fire Blast since it doesn't lower your SpA. The big problem with Fire Blast though is the reduced power. For example, Aegislash and Mega Manectric have a good shot of survivng a Fire Blast at full health, while Overheat fries them.

- In teammates, I think you should mention some mons that like Blaziken's baiting power. Stuff like "Azumarill likes having Zapdos go down" or "Aegislash likes Hippowdon getting smashed", etc.

Baton Pass

Don't have much to say about this beyond one thing: I think I've faced some sash BP Blazikens that max Attack. How viable do you think this is? I guess having a more powerful HJK could come in handy, but Ive never done calcs with bulky Blaziken so I dunno.

Other Options

-Could mention Charcoal to boost Flare Blitz without Life Orb recoil. Missing out on the Fighting type attack boost is a bummer though.

Once you implement what you feel makes sense, I'll give this a QC stamp =)

Few things from me:

- The bigger reason why people run Blaze on the Mega set is to avoid getting Speed Boost Traced (though not gonna lie it'd feel really good if that 50% boost became clutch). Many people switch in P2 predicting the Protect, so you might as well leave them a nasty little surprise.

- I don't know about slashing in Life Orb with the Mega set like Theorymon is suggesting. Every stat sans special attack is higher with the Mega if the Life Orb variant is Jolly, so the only real upside to Life Orb in a purely physical set is not using the mega slot. I think Life Orb is more for variants that use special attacks like Overheat and Hidden Power. I mean, if we're talking about revenge killing with normal Blaziken, the Mixed set works just as well.

- You can probably add Thunderpunch in the Other Options, or slash it in the Mega set since you mentioned it in the description there. I'll let you decide where it's best to put it.

- Prankster T-Wave in the Priority section of Checks and Counters should be mentioned. A paralyzed Blaziken is pretty much dead weight. Speaking of getting T-Waved, having Cresselia to Lunar Dance the paralysis away (and heal HP) makes it a great teammate, especially since it can switch into a lot of things that threaten Blaziken. I don't know where it's best to mention that though.

- Landorus-T is also a major Blaziken Check depending on the set.

- I don't really think "prediction" is something to include in Checks and Counters, since that pretty much applies to every Pokemon.

Unrelated, but that feel when Rock Slide is more common than Stone Edge in singles...

I'll also post a suggestion for the Mixed EV spread here: 52 Atk, 244 SpA, 212 Spe.

244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 182-218 (99.4 - 119.1%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO [this doesn't change with 252 spA]
244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Salamence: 177-208 (104.1 - 122.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

52 Atk Life Orb Blaziken Superpower vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Heatran: 203-242 (102.5 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
52 Atk Life Orb Blaziken Superpower vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 218-257 (102.8 - 121.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 179-213 (107.1 - 127.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Zapdos: 140-165 (71 - 83.7% + 35.5 - 42.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gengar: 134-160 (98.5 - 117.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO [again, doesn't change with 252]

Speed reaches 208 at +1, outspeeding Scarfed Rotom forms and 135s.

For the mixed set, the superior IV combination for HP Ice would be 30/31/30/31/31/31 which allows for the 4 EVs to go into attack to gain the extra point.

I also think Rotom-W should probably be in checks+counters. It can be 2HKO'd by High Jump Kick (or even Flare Blitz + HJK with high rolls) but is still decent enough to be worth a mention (can OHKO with uninvested Hydro Pump or T-wave it or something)

DragonWhale : Oh I guess that's a good point actually. When I used LO Physical Blaziken, I did always have Swords Dance. Maybe the better approach would be to mention Life Orb in set details, and mention that running Swords Dance is recommended so it has something over the mixed set.

Re: Blaze vs Speed Boost on the first set
I guess I'll need to clarify this part. Blaze is probably better if you're using Blaziken as your sole mega, while Speed Boost allows a bit more team flexibility. The P2 Trace thing is an interesting situation that could come up, however rare it may be (since it can survive HJK), and I'll keep that in mind.

Re: Life Orb on the first set
I mentioned it in set comments but in most cases you wanna go Mega anyways. There may be some rare situation where you don't (your team has 2 megas already and your team prefers the higher physical damage output of 252 Atk Blaziken).

Re: Stone Edge vs Rock Slide
While Rock Slide is more common than Stone Edge on the PGL, I had several reasons for relegating Rock Slide to OO while slashing Stone Edge on the main set. Since the Rock move is not purely for Talonflame and ZardY, there are several other targets that Stone Edge simply nails better than Rock Slide. Couple of examples:

-1 Rock Slide vs 0/0 Salamence: 53%-62%
-1 Rock Slide vs 0/0 Mega Salamence: 35%-42%

If you predict a Salamence switch in with Rock Slide, you have a pretty good chance of not KOing with the subsequent Rock Slide if it mega evolves. On the other hand, Stone Edge will 2HKO, and can even OHKO after Stealth Rock (69%-82%)

-1 Rock Slide vs 252/252+ Gyarados = ~31%-37%
-1 Stone Edge vs 252/252+ Gyarados = ~40%-48%
-1 Flare Blitz vs 252/252+ Gyarados = ~18%-21%

Key things Stone Edge does here: 2HKOes Gyarados after Stealth Rock or after one hit from Blaziken's STAB. The latter scenario is only relevant for Gyarados switching in at a later time of course.

Similar scenario happens vs Dragonite. If you can damage Dragonite's Multiscale with Blaziken's STAB, you can KO it with Stone Edge, but you may encounter difficulties with Rock Slide.

Re: Landorus-T as a check
Will consider but it is 2HKOed by Flare Blitz and can't really handle the Special set either so I'm not sure. I used Physically Defensive Landorus-T before although I'm not sure if it's common enough.

Re: Rotom-W
Seems too unreliable to me. HJK will 2HKO after Sitrus Berry which is pretty nasty. Actually Blaziken doesn't really need a high roll either to KO Rotom-W with Blitz + HJK.

Re: Prediction
This was added as Blaziken's STABs have annoying side effects if you mispredict (especially its Fighting STAB), but I guess I'll remove it.

Re: Prankster TWave
Hmm perhaps, although the Prankster Pokemon will probably die in the process, but I guess it's nice for clutch saves.

Re: Mixken spread
I'll add it in :D

Added Mega Pinsir and Mega Altaria into checks.

Okay, I can see what you're trying to say with 'prediction', since the consequences of getting predicted are a lot higher than most Pokemon excluding choiced ones.

I've said this on the Mega Lopunny analysis as well, but you can also mention in Usage Tips or Team Options the benefit to having Stealth Rock support for Blaziken, especially against teams containing Talonflame, due to the rocks allowing you to play around Talonflame and severely limit your opponent's options thereafter.

But otherwise, great analysis.

QC Approved 2/3

Stealth Rock added to Team Options.

I've also finally written this up. I haven't really proofread it though so expect some massive grammar and usage issues (particularly with Mega usage). I also haven't written an analysis in years so I may have lost track of some of the conventions.

Fire Blast added to OO for Mixed Set.

Scope Lens added to OO.

I'd put the 4 EVs in Special Defense (for the first set) rather than Defense to give Porygon2 an Attack boost.

I don't have much to say 'cause everyone else said it all already. The only thing I really wanted to make sure was on here was the mixed lure set 'cause that is a good way to get rid of Hippowdon which is otherwise a good check. Looks to me like everything's here so QC 3/3.

Overview

Blaziken is without a doubt one of the premier offensive threats in Battle Spot Singles, and for multiple good reasons – it is powerful, fast, and versatile. It gets STAB on two of the most formidable offensive types in the game, backed up by having access high Base Powered attacks on top of possessing and strong offensive stats that are (increased even further after it Mega Evolves in its mega forme). To top it all off, it has access to one of the best abilities in the game, Speed Boost, that which helps patch its rather average base Speed, allowing it to truly exercise its immense raw power and also function as a revenge killer. The possibilities don(change apostrophe to this: ')t end there – Blaziken is devastating in both of Mega and non-Mega formes, allowing for flexible teambuilding, and can even pull off a supporting role with Baton Pass.

As strong as Blaziken is, however, it does have several crippling downfalls that keep it from going out of control. It is quite frail and is weak to some common types, and that means if Blaziken does not KO its target, it will often be subject to serious retaliation. Its STABs moves also have drawbacks that can be taken advantage of, making Blaziken somewhat prediction(dash)reliant. They are also contact moves, meaning Rocky Helmet can be a nuisance. Despite Blaziken being blindingly fast with Speed Boost, its weaknesses to Flying and Water and Flying mean that it can be revenge killed by Aqua Jet and Gale Wings Brave Bird.

Mega Sweeper

move 3: Knock Off / Swords Dance / Stone Edge / Thunder Punch
move 4: Protect
ability: Speed Boost
item: Blazikenite

nature: Adamant

Moves
========

Flare Blitz and Superpower / High Jump Kick serve as powerful STAB moves, backed by Blaziken's titanic 160 base 160 Attack. Superpower vs High Jump Kick is often decided by preference. Superpower is more reliable than High Jump Kick, (comma) but the Attack drop deters repeated usage, (remove comma) and can make sweeping difficult. High Jump Kick offers even more power and no stat drawbacks, but it can miss and severely cripple Blaziken, often leading to its demise. It is important to keep in mind common Protect users and Ghost-type Pokemon when using that move.

Regardless, the sheer strength of these moves often demand its opponents to have Pokemon that either resist both and/or pack extremely high physical bulk. Even then, Blaziken has options around those. (the two previous sentences seem kinda fluff/filler to me, but it's up to you if you want to remove them) Knock Off smashes apart Latios, non-Mega Latias (as a non-mega), and Chandelure, (remove comma) and deals solid damage to Cresselia and Slowbro. It can remove Rocky Helmet, relieving the passive pressure Blaziken gets from repeatedly using contact moves. Stone Edge destroys Talonflame and Mega Charizard(remove dash, add space)Y, (remove comma) and can make Salamence, Gyarados, and Dragonite think twice before switching in. However, its accuracy can be rather problematic, and it may be wise to run Rock Slide instead. Thunder Punch can be used to smash Gyarados and Azumarill, although it hits no other notable targets. If the bonus coverage is not needed, Blaziken can use Swords Dance can to boost its Attack into sky-high levels, allowing it to sweep with ease. Finally, Protect is mandatory in order to guarantee a turn of Speed Boost, especially during the turn it Blaziken Mega Evolves.

Set Details
========

As with most glass cannon sweepers, maximizing Attack and Speed is recommended to hit as hard and as quickly as possible. With maximum Speed, Mega Blaziken can attempt to Speed tie with the likes of Mega Charizard(remove dash, add space)X and Volcarona, potentially pulling a clutch victory. Adamant is recommended over Jolly(comma) as Blaziken outruns every unboosted Pokemon anyways (bar Ninjask, who which is irrelevant) at +1 Speed. (you could omit the parenthetical aside and just say "outruns every relevant unboosted Pokemon anyways" if you like)

Both Blaze and Speed Boost are viable abilities to choose from for the base Blaziken. Blaze may sound odd at first, but if you're going to Mega Evolve Blaziken anyways, then having Speed Boost on the base forme can be pointless. With Blaze, Blaziken has an incentive to not immediately Mega Evolve. Sometimes odd scenarios in which Blaze is more useful can happen, such as the enemy Porygon2 being able to potentially Trace Speed Boost and coming out clutch, or times when Blaziken needs the power boost from Blaze to KO something, can happen. Regardless, these situations are incredibly rare. Speed Boost allows for more teambuilding flexibility - some teams will prefer having two Mega Pokemon, (remove comma) but may often not use them together. In the cases where both of the aforementioned Pokemon are required in one squad, Blaziken can forgo its Mega Evolution and remain relevant due to Speed Boost.

In short, choose Blaze if Blaziken will be your -only- (remove dashes) Mega Evolution on the team, and choose Speed Boost if you have another potential Mega Evolution.

Usage Tips
========

As a Mega Pokemon, Blaziken will often be the center of your team's focus. Evaluate the number of enemies Blaziken can defeat in Team Preview before deciding to bring it in, and bring the appropriate amount of support once you decide on that. It may not be the best idea to bring it if your opponent has two or more 2+ Blaziken checks and 2 two or more other Pokemon that can outduel it. As an example, a team with Cresselia / Azumarill / Talonflame / Aegislash / Garchomp / Mega Kangaskhan (add spaces between all the slashes) is probably not something you should bring Blaziken into.

Due to the side effects of Blaziken's STAB moves combined with the Pokemon's frailty, it is important to note that mispredictions can be immediately costly. Be careful with using High Jump Kick if there are enemy Ghost-types around, or if Blaziken is facing a common Protect user such as Heatran or enemy Blaziken. Speaking of Protect, try not to be predictable when using it, as it can lead to Blaziken's the opponent getting a free switch to a check.

Blaziken's sheer offensive strength allows it to be used as both a wallbreaker and a cleaner, although it is more proficient at the latter. With that and its resistances, switching Blaziken into direct attacks is possible, despite its overall frailty. However, Blaziken should primarily be switching in to revenge kill a fallen teammate so it does not take too much abuse and subsequently knock itself out via Flare Blitz recoil.

Team Options
========

Zapdos and Rotom-W cover most of Blaziken's checks, such as Azumarill, Salamence, Gyarados, Slowbro, and Talonflame. Both of them can use Volt Switch to help bring Blaziken in easier. In turn, Blaziken can threaten Grass(dash)types that beat Rotom-W, and it can defeat certain Pokemon that give Zapdos issues, such as Greninja, Tyranitar, and Gengar. Ferrothorn can defeat Water(dash)types such as Suicune, threaten Cresselia with passive damage, and set up Stealth Rock to aid Blaziken's damage. Zapdos's Fighting resistance helps turn the trio of Zapdos / Blaziken / Ferrothorn (dash --> slash, plus spaces; same thing in the next two edits) into a solid balanced squad. Blaziken / Rotom-W / Ferrothorn is also another great core, featuring the Fire / Water / Grass combination. Thundurus can fulfill a similar job role as Zapdos, (remove comma) and offers more power in exchange for reduced durability.

Stealth Rock in general can aid Blaziken massively. A number of Blaziken's checks are weak to it (most notably Talonflame). Furthermore, Stealth Rock ensures that Blaziken will 2HKO Suicune with High Jump Kick. A few notable Stealth Rock users include Garchomp, Landorus-T, and the aforementioned Ferrothorn.

move 4: Protect
ability: Speed Boost
item: Life Orb
evs: 52 Atk / 244 SpA / 212 Spe
ivs: 30 HP / 30 Def
nature: Naive

Moves
========

Overheat batters apart physically bulky Pokemon such as Hippowdon and Zapdos. It reliably destroys Aegislash as well, and since because it is special, it won't be affected by Mawile's Intimidate. Hidden Power Ice OHKOes Landorus-T, Gliscor, Garchomp(comma) and Mega Salamence. Superpower or and High Jump Kick are still strong STAB options despite lacking investment. Lastly, Protect is a necessity to quickly patch Blaziken's mediocre Speed.

Set Details
========

Blaziken's talents extend to its non-Mega usage. With a mixed set, Blaziken can still carve out an offensive niche that is not outclassed by its Mega Evolution. Sporting formidable 120 / 110 offenses, backed by Life Orb, Blaziken can still dish out tremendous amounts of damage, (remove comma) and even slightly outclass its Mega Evolution power-wise if it attempts to pull off the same set. Here are some calculations to demonstrate Blaziken's power.
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 182-218 (99.4 - 119.1%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO [this doesn't change with 252 SpA] (I feel like these should be parentheses? but w/e)
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Salamence: 177-208 (104.1 - 122.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 52 Atk Life Orb Blaziken Superpower vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Heatran: 203-242 (102.5 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 52 Atk Life Orb Blaziken Superpower vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 218-257 (102.8 - 121.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 179-213 (107.1 - 127.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Zapdos: 140-165 (71 - 83.7% + 35.5 - 42.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 244 SpA Life Orb Blaziken Overheat vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gengar: 134-160 (98.5 - 117.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
With 212 Speed EVs, Blaziken's Speed reaches 208 at +1, outspeeding Scarfed Choice Scarf Rotom formes and base 135s such as Mega Manectric and Mega Lopunny. Maximizing Speed is a viable option, as Blaziken(space)can outrun upwards to Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Beedrill(comma) and Mega Sceptile at +1.

Usage Tips
========

This set can function as a lure, so it may be in your best interest to carry a Pokemon that appreciates certain checks baited and removed by Blaziken. However, some people may expect it if you don't Mega Evolve Blaziken it. Try predicting your opponent's usual check to it on the switch before he or she suspects something is up and punishes you for it. Remember that this Blaziken's Fighting-type STAB move is not as powerful, and thus enemies like such as Suicune and Azumarill can be sent in more comfortably.

Team Options
========

Because this set does not require Blaziken to Mega Evolve, feel free to use Megas Pokemon in conjunction with it. Mega Gengar can destroy Mega Slowbro, and threaten Cresselia and Azumarill, while Blaziken scares off Dark-type Pokemon such as Bisharp and Hydreigon. Mega Salamence appreciates Blaziken's ability to threaten Skarmory, Tyranitar, and Porygon2, and it can bait Zapdos in and dent it with a powerful Overheat.

As mentioned before, Blaziken can lure enemies with this set. There are some Pokemon that can take advantage of a successful bait. For example, Aegislash and Mega Kangaskhan appreciate Blaziken dealing severe damage to Hippowdon, and Mega Venusaur can have a field day if Blaziken can successfully bait and destroy an enemy Mega Salamence.

Of course, Zapdos, Rotom-W, Ferrothorn, and Stealth Rock setters such as Garchomp remain as are excellent partners. (assume the reader hasn't seen the previous set(s))

Baton Pass
########
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Swords Dance / Bulk Up
move 2: Protect
move 3: Baton Pass
move 4: High Jump Kick / Blaze Kick
ability: Speed Boost
item: Focus Sash / Weakness Policy
evs: 252 HP / 6 Def (is this supposed to be 4?) / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly / Impish

Moves
========

Swords Dance and Protect allow Blaziken to quickly stack stat boosts to Baton Pass to teammates with. Bulk Up + Weakness Policy is also viable for greater payoff potential, but this strategy is less reliable. High Jump Kick lets Blaziken hurt foes if it absolutely needs if you absolutely need to attack (and it will hurt too). Use, (comma) but it should be used sparingly, especially since because missing or hitting a Rocky Helmet Pokemon will disable waste Focus Sash. (the wording here sounded more like Usage Tips imo, hence the minor changes) Substitute with Leftovers is viable if your recipient Pokemon requires multiple Speed boosts. It can also block predicted Thunder Waves, allowing for a safer pass. It also blocks Imposter so Ditto doesn't turn the boosts against you.

Set Details
========

252 HP EVs are used for the best overall bulk since because this set will not be attacking much. Maximum Speed allows it to Baton Pass away with minimum Speed boosts, assuming the recipient does not require multiple boosts(period) Also because there really aren't better stats to invest the EVs in, assuming Jolly. (I think you're missing something at the start of that sentence?)

Impish is also viable with maximum HP and Defense EVs. Blaziken can take a Choice Banded(dash)boosted Brave Bird from Talonflame after a Bulk Up, activate Weakness Policy, and Baton Pass away. It will also be guaranteed to survive Garchomp's Earthquake without any defensive boosts.

Usage Tips
========

This set can work quite well as a lead, but beware if the enemy has potential phazers such as Suicune. Priority moves can also ruin the Baton Pass. If you anticipate your opponent having a priority user one, (or "If you anticipate the foe having a priority move" if that's what you meant) make sure you Blaziken uses Baton Pass in a healthy state before you're its HP too low and can be picked off by it. Don't make your Baton Passes predictable. Often(remove space)times, you may want to Baton Pass early as soon as you gain Blaziken gains sufficient boosts. You don't always have to Baton Pass only when you're unable to find room to boost any longer, because that guarantees that your next turn will be Baton Pass. This means your opponent can easily punish your recipient.

Team Options
========

Mega Kangaskhan is the best recipient for Blaziken's boosts. It is bulky enough to take most incoming punishment and possesses the raw strength to simply batter through defensive threats with a boost. It also bypasses Sturdy and Focus Sash thanks to Parental Bond. Mega Mawile is another fearsome ally - a speedy Mega Mawile can be terrifying due to how much raw damage it deals. It also resists Brave Bird, Ice Shard, Sucker Punch, and Extreme(space)Speed, (remove comma) and is bulky enough to withstand Aqua Jets and Mach Punches, making revengeing killing it difficult. Generally, any physical attacker will do work as a teammate depending on the situation. Need to get away from that Earthquake? Pass to Mega Salamence. Incoming Thunder Wave? Pass to Garchomp.

Here is a special note to Mega Latias deserves a special note for being able to who can act as an unexpected partner. With sufficient boosts, Mega Latias can deal tremendous amounts of damage with Stored Power. Use the Bulk Up / Weakness Policy (spaces) set with this.

Other Options
########

Rock Slide is a viable alternative to Stone Edge if the accuracy is a concern. If you don't care too much about the opposing Salamence or Gyarados, perhaps the power drop will not be a huge issue. Toxic can be used to wear down bulky, sustaining checks such as Mega Slowbro, Cresselia, and Hippowdon. Note that regular Slowbro can still be an issue due to Regenerator, however. Low Kick can be used if HJK's High Jump Kick's and Superpower's drawbacks are too much, but its having lower Base Power against vs certain important targets such as Rotom-W and Garchomp can be a problem. Will-O-Wisp is an unusual choice to weaken Azumarill, Salamence, Gyarados, and Dragonite, (remove comma) and can be used to cripple some enemies in a pinch. Brave Bird may seem appealing, but it only really hits Mega Venusaur and not much else.

On the mixed set, Hidden Power Electric and Grass are viable alternatives - the former smashes Gyarados and the latter takes down Quagsire, Swampert, and Gastrodon. Both options also deal respectable damage to Slowbro. Fire Blast can be used instead of Overheat for a more consistent damage output, but it might may fail to OHKO Aegislash. On the Baton Pass set, Blaziken can surprise enemy phazers by carrying Roar.

Blaziken can utilize Scope Lens + Focus Energy for fun. This amplifies Blaziken's critical hit rate on regular moves to 100%, and since because critical hits ignore stat drops, Blaziken can freely spam Overheat and Superpower at 150% damage without suffering from the offensive stat drops unless it hits an opponent foe that has with Shell Armor or Battle Armor, (remove comma) or if it is shielded by Lucky Chant. It is not as good as it sounds, however, as the turn it uses to set up Focus Energy can be used for something more productive, such as setting up a Swords Dance. However, Baton Passing Focus Energy and Speed boosts to Sniper Kingdra can be devastating.

Checks & Counters
########

**Pokemon that Resist Blaziken's STABs Types**: Slowbro, Salamence, Gyarados, Talonflame, Azumarill, Mega Latias, Mega Altaria, and Dragonite being are the major ones. Mega Slowbro will completely wall Blaziken if it lacks a super effective Hidden Power.

**Suicune**: Although High Jump Kick can 2HKO Suicune with high rolls, it can easily handle everything else Blaziken throws at it. Rocky Helmet can knock Blaziken to Scald's KO range, and Roar can nullify the Baton Pass set very easily(period)

**Cresselia**: Cresselia is bulky enough to withstand every attack Blaziken throws at it and can threaten back with Thunder Wave and Psychic. It can also heal off Blaziken's damage with Moonlight(period) Knock Off can nullify the Rocky Helmet threat it brings, however.

**Hippowdon**: High physical bulk (and therefore often a Rocky Helmet candidate), access to reliable recovery, a phazing move, and a STAB Earthquake can make short work of Blaziken's Mega and Baton Pass sets. If nothing else, Rocky Helmet and Sand Stream can both quickly deplete Blaziken's health.

**Priority**: Note that while Blaziken resists most priority moves, but it is weak to Flying and Water, making priority users such as Talonflame, Azumarill, Mega Pinsir, Azumarill, and Crawdaunt tremendous issues. Similarly, Prankster Thunder Wave can shut down Blaziken's sweeping attempt, although it will often come at the cost of that Pokemon.

**Rocky Helmet**: Blaziken typically runs contact moves, meaning and Rocky Helmet can punish it, especially since when combined with Flare Blitz's recoil can hurt.

**Prediction**: Correctly predicting Blaziken's Fighting-type STAB move and responding to it appropriately can severely weaken Blaziken. Sending a Zapdos into Blaziken's Superpower, for example, lowers its Attack so that Zapdos can comfortably stall it. Likewise, sending a Ghost-type Pokemon into High Jump Kick will quickly make it regret the turn.

As an For example, a team with Cresselia / Azumarill / Talonflame / Aegislash / Garchomp / Mega Kangaskhan is probably not something you should bring Blaziken into. (Most changes in this paragraph are subjective)

Due to the side effects of Blaziken's STAB moves combined with the Pokemon's its frailty, it is important to note that mispredictions can be immediately costly. Be careful with using High Jump Kick if there are enemy Ghost-types around, or if Blaziken is facing a common Protect user such as Heatran or enemy Blaziken. Speaking of Protect, try not to be predictable when using it, as it can lead to the opponent getting a free switch to a check.

Stealth Rock in general can aid Blaziken massively. A number of Blaziken's checks are weak to it (most notably Talonflame). Remember that this Blaziken's Fighting-type STAB move is not as powerful, and thus so enemies such as Suicune and Azumarill can be sent in more comfortably.

Team Options

Because this set does not require Blaziken to Mega Evolve, feel free to use Megas Mega Pokemon in conjunction with it. Mega Gengar can destroy Mega Slowbro and threaten Cresselia and Azumarill, while Blaziken scares off Dark-type Pokemon such as Bisharp and Hydreigon. Mega Salamence appreciates Blaziken's ability to threaten Skarmory, Tyranitar, Zapdos, and Porygon2, and it can bait Zapdos in and dent it with a powerful Overheat.

Zapdos, Rotom-W, Ferrothorn, and Stealth Rock setters such as Garchomp remain as excellent partners. (Don't cross-reference)

Moves
========

It also blocks Imposter so Ditto doesn't turn the boosts against you the recipient.

Set Details
========

252 HP EVs are used for the best overall bulk because this set will not be attacking much. Maximum Speed allows it Blaziken to Baton Pass away with minimum Speed boosts, assuming the recipient does not require multiple boosts.

Usage Tips
========

This set can work quite well as a lead, but beware if the enemy has potential phazers such as Suicune. Priority moves can also ruin the Baton Pass.(space)If you anticipate the foe having a priority move, make sure Blaziken uses Baton Pass in a healthy state before its HP gets too low and it can be picked off by it.

========

(remove line)
Need to get away from that Earthquake? Pass to Mega Salamence. Incoming Thunder Wave? Pass to Garchomp. (This is a tad too informal for my tastes; if you're up to it, I suggest rephrasing it.)

Mega Latias deserves a special note for being able to act as an unexpected partner. With sufficient boosts, Mega Latias can deal tremendous amounts of damage with Stored Power. Use the Bulk Up / Weakness Policy set with this.

Other Options
=============

This amplifies Blaziken's critical hit rate on regular moves to 100%, (RC) and, (AC) because critical hits ignore stat drops, Blaziken can freely spam Overheat and Superpower at 150% damage without suffering from the offensive stat drops unless it hits a foe that has Shell Armor or Battle Armor or is shielded by Lucky Chant. It is not as good as it sounds, however, as the turn it Blaziken uses to set up Focus Energy can be used for something more productive, such as setting up a Swords Dance. However, Baton Passing Focus Energy and Speed boosts to Sniper Kingdra can be devastating.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Pokemon that Resist Blaziken's STABs Types STAB Moves**: Slowbro, Salamence, Gyarados, Talonflame, Azumarill, Mega Latias, Mega Altaria, and Dragonite are the major ones can tank Blaziken's STAB attacks easily. Mega Slowbro will completely wall Blaziken if it lacks a super effective Hidden Power.

**Suicune**: Although High Jump Kick can 2HKO Suicune with high rolls, it Suicune can easily handle everything else Blaziken throws at it. Rocky Helmet can knock Blaziken to Scald's KO range, (RC) and Roar can nullify the Baton Pass set very easily.

**Cresselia**: Cresselia is bulky enough to withstand every attack Blaziken throws at it and can threaten back with Thunder Wave and Psychic. It can also heal off Blaziken's (Careful! It's not healing Blaziken.) damage with Moonlight. Knock Off can nullify the threat of Cresselia's Rocky Helmet threat it brings, however.

Likewise, sending a Ghost-type Pokemon into High Jump Kick will quickly make it Blaziken regret the turn.
