RU Vivillon [GP 2/2]

QC: 49 / Spirit / Arikado
GP: P Squared / Winry.
Overview
########

Vivillon has access to one of the best boosting moves in the game, Quiver Dance. Its ability Compound Eyes also makes low accuracy moves such as Sleep Powder and Hurricane much more reliable. However, Vivillon is held back by its crippling 4x weakness to the most common entry hazard, Stealth Rock. Vivillon is also extremely frail and has weaknesses to common Ice-, Fire-, Rock-, and Flying-type moves. Vivillon is also walled by common Pokemon such as Mega Steelix, Rhyperior, and Doublade, and its Speed tier is quite awkward, leaving it unable to outspeed common Pokemon such as Meloetta and Drapion without a boost.

Quiver Dance Sweeper
########
name: Quiver Dance Sweeper
move 1: Quiver Dance
move 2: Hurricane
move 3: Sleep Powder
move 4: Substitute / Energy Ball
ability: Compound Eyes
item: Sky Plate / Focus Sash
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========

Quiver Dance is one of the best boosting moves in the game, boosting Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by one stage each, and is the primary reason to use Vivillon. Hurricane is a must, as it is Vivillon's hardest-hitting STAB move and is also bumped up to a decent 91% accuracy thanks to Compound Eyes. Sleep Powder allows Vivillon to temporarily cripple the foe and gain free turns to set up. Substitute lets Vivillon dodge status inflictions and also makes it harder for it to get revenge killed. Energy Ball is another option to hit Rhyperior, one of the best counters to Vivillon.

Set Details
========

Compound Eyes is the best ability, as Friend Guard is useless in singles and Shield Dust is much more situational. Sky Plate is the preferred item for this set, as Hurricane is the only attacking move, and the difference in damage output between Life Orb and Sky Plate is minimal. A Focus Sash can also be considered, as it eases setup and makes Vivillon harder to revenge kill. 252 Special Attack EVs increase Vivillon's damage output, while 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature maximize Vivillon's Speed.

Usage Tips
========

Vivillon is very straightforward to use; just put the opposing Pokemon to sleep and then start boosting with Quiver Dance. However, if holding a Focus Sash, do not run Substitute, as it defeats the purpose. Before attempting to set up and sweep, it is recommended to remove opposing priority users such as Fletchinder, as they can easily stop a sweep. Rock-, Electric-, and Steel-type Pokemon should also be weakened prior to setting up so that Vivillon has a chance to muscle past them.

Team Options
========

Vivillon has a crippling 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, so Pokemon such as Hitmonlee and Shiftry are almost mandatory to provide a way of removing entry hazards. Hitmonlee also has the added benefit of being able to defeat Steel- and Rock-types that trouble Vivillon. With Baton Pass, Togetic is able to bring in Vivillon safely and transfer Nasty Plot boosts; however, it stacks many weaknesses with Vivillon. Sawk can pressure common Stealth Rock setters such as Mega Steelix and break down Pokemon that resist Flying, such as Rhyperior. Like other setup sweepers, Vivillon appreciates entry hazard support to help it obtain certain 2HKOs and OHKOs. Electric-types such as Eelektross can help bring in Vivillon safely with Volt Switch while also being able to force out checks and counters such as Rhyperior, Mega Steelix, and opposing Electric-types. Powerful wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Exploud and Meloetta are also great teammates, as they can severely weaken checks and counters so that Vivillon has a chance to sweep.

Other Options
########

Roost allows Vivillon to stay healthy, but it is very frail and really needs either Substitute or Energy Ball. Life Orb allows Vivillon to hit harder than it would with a Sky Plate, but the difference between damage output is minimal, and Life Orb comes with the cost of recoil. An Endeavor set is also possible, but it does not make full use of Quiver Dance. U-turn can also be used in conjunction with Sleep Powder, as it makes for a great momentum-snatching machine and anti lead.

Checks & Counters
########

**Pokemon that Resist Flying**: Rock-, Electric-, and Steel-type Pokemon such as Kabutops, Rhyperior, Eelektross, Doublade, and Mega Steelix resist Flying-type attacks; however, Rhyperior and Kabutops must be wary of Energy Ball.

**Revenge Killers**: Pokemon with priority, such as Fletchinder, Mega Abomasnow, and Mega Glalie, can easily revenge kill Vivillon, while faster Choice Scarf users such as Durant can outspeed Vivillon even after a boost and proceed to KO it.

**Stealth Rock**: Stealth Rock is a very common entry hazard that cuts away half of Vivillon's health and limits the number of times it can switch in. Stealth Rock also makes Vivillon much more prone to being revenge killed.

Don't slash Sleep Powder with Substitute; if anything, slash Substitute with Bug Buzz. Vivillon needs Sleep Powder.

yeah, sleep powder is indispensable here. personally, i lean towards the main set being qd / hurricane / sleep powder / (sub / energy ball) [really only targets rhyperior, but that's a big deal] @ sky plate / focus sash, since from my experiences sub recovery is worth very little and the power difference from sky plate -> lo is rather minuscule (whilst no boosting item -> plate can be rather nice indeed), but i s'pose that's up for debate haha

there's been an endeavor vivillon set floating around in nu - think that would have any merit (oo if I had to guess)?

ok, I'll make those changes

I don't really know, probably need some more QC input.

edit: this is ready for QC!

o.k, groovy.

as for the endeavor set, it is fairly neat, but idt it is worth a set currently. oo is fine. mention base 89 speed is the dumbest thing in the world; i had thought for the longest time this was base 91, but yeah, ech. it's sitting above 'lee, which is definitely good, but coming up short on melo, drapion, etc., is pretty lame of a 'mon that totally can't be eating a hit.

pairing this w/electrics has been really effectual in my experiences; not only is switch advantage via volt switch nice, but they also can force most of vivilon's checks (opposing electrics, rhyperior, 'lix, etc.) to stomach hits depending on their coverage choices, which is def.nice. they can, depending on your choice in electric, also pivot opposing electrics well (something like eel, for instance), which is neat. using stuff like melo or exploud to break for it is also rather plausible here. i don't find golbat to be a cohesive defogger on vivillon teams, given how much of a momentum killer it is; shiftry might be a bit more pertinent.

Mention that Focus Sash shouldn't be used with Substitute in usage tips.

Kabutops is an awkward spinner to lsit as a teammate cuz it just sucks. Mention Hitmonlee instead which has nice team synergy in the fact that it also smacks steels.

Jyx is an incredibly awkward Pokemon to mention in C&C .-. mention uhh.. there are actually barely any scarfers to mention tbh, Vivillon outspeeds most of them at +1. I guess Durant can work though.

Nah it is mostly due to the unlikely trick+fling stuff and using the non plate item is standard in analyses

Hurricane is Vivillon's hardest-hitting STAB move and is also bumped up to a decent 91% accuracy thanks to Compound Eyes. Sleep Powder allows Vivillon to temporarily cripple the foe and gain free turns to set up. Substitute lets Vivillon dodge status ailments and also makes it harder for Vivillon to get revenge killed. Energy Ball is another option to hit Rhyperior.

Set Details
========

Compound Eyes improves the accuracy Hurricane and Sleep Powder, two of Vivillon's most important moves. Sharp Beak is the preferred item for this set, as Hurricane is the only attacking move, and the difference in damage output between Life Orb and Sharp Beak is minimal. A Focus Sash can also be used, as it eases setup and makes Vivillon harder to revenge kill. 252 Special Attack EVs increase Vivillon's damage output, while 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature maximize Vivillon's Speed.

Usage Tips
========

Vivillon is very straightforward to use; just put the opposing Pokemon to sleep and start boosting with Quiver Dance. However, if holding a Focus Sash, do not run Substitute.

========

Vivillon has a crippling 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, so Pokemon such as Hitmonlee and Shiftry are almost mandatory to provide a way of removing entry hazards. Hitmonlee also has the added benefit of being able to defeat the Rock- and Steel-types that wall Vivillon. Electric-types such as Eelektross can help bring in Vivillon safely with Volt Switch while also being able to force out Vivillon's checks and counters such as Rhyperior, Mega Steelix, and opposing Electric-types. Powerful wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Exploud and Meloetta are also great teammates, as they can severely weaken Vivillon's checks and counters so that it has a chance to sweep.

U-turn can also be used in conjunction with Sleep Powder, as it makes for a great momentum snatcher and anti-lead.

Checks & Counters
########

**Pokemon that Resist Flying**: Rock-, Electric-, and Steel-type Pokemon such as Kabutops, Rhyperior, Eelektross, Doublade, and Mega Steelix resist Flying-type attacks and can retaliate accordingly; however, Rhyperior and Kabutops must be wary of Energy Ball.

**Revenge Killers**: Pokemon that carry priority moves, such as Fletchinder, Mega Abomasnow, and Mega Glalie, can easily revenge kill Vivillon, while faster Choice Scarf users such as Durant can outspeed Vivillon even after a boost and proceed to KO it.

**Stealth Rock**: Stealth Rock is a very common entry hazard that removes half of Vivillon's health and limits the number of times it can switch in. Stealth Rock also makes Vivillon much more prone to being revenge killed.

Vivillon is also walled by common Pokemon such as Mega Steelix, Rhyperior, and Doublade, and while its Speed tier is quite awkward, leaving it unable to outspeed common Pokemon such as Meloetta and Drapion without a boost.

Quiver Dance is one of the best boosting moves in the game, boosting Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by one stage each, and it is the primary reason to use Vivillon.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips

Vivillon is very straightforward to use; just put the opposing Pokemon to sleep and then start boosting with Quiver Dance. However, if holding a Focus Sash, do not run Substitute, as it defeats the purpose. Before attempting to set up and sweep, it is recommended to remove opposing priority users such as Fletchinder, as they can easily stop a sweep. Rock-, Electric-, and Steel-type Pokemon should also be weakened prior to setting up so that Vivillon has a chance to muscle past them.
