Overview
########

As the bulkiest Pokemon in the tier which also holds reliable means of recovery, Audino shines as one of the best defensive choice of the metagame by being able to be either physically or specially defensive while providing team support through Wish and Heal Bell. The physically defensive set, which finds the most usage, is able to wall a signifiant part of the physical attackers in the tier, such as Sneasel, Gurdurr, Hariyama, Primeape, and Scyther. On the other hand, a specially defensive spread allows Audino to wall common offensive threats such as Samurott, Magmortar, and Exeggutor. Thanks to its naturally high bulk Audino can also opt to follow an offensively inclined role, taking advantage of coverage moves such as Fire Blast, Surf, and Psychic to easily get past Pokemon that would otherwise threaten out the common defensive variants, such as Klinkglang, Mawile, Vileplume, and Mega Camerupt. Obtaining the Fairy typing through Mega Evolution makes Audino one of the best answers to Knock Off spam that exist in the tier and allows it to punish the users of Knock Off with its newly aquired STAB Fairy-type moves. Due to its reliance on status moves, Audino is easily shut down by Taunt or Encore users, even the offensive variants being disrupted by those moves due to being very weak before a Calm Mind boost. The lack of immediate power in the absence of Calm Mind allows other Pokemon, such as Klinklang, Lilligant, and Uxie, to easily set up on Audino. At the same time, while its mega evolution offers it higher bulk it also comes at the cost of losing Regenerator, a loss that cuts in its ability to reliably pass Wishes over the course of the match.

Defensive Calm Mind
########
name: Defensive Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Dazzling Gleam
move 3: Rest / Wish
move 4: Sleep Talk / Fire Blast / Heal Bell
ability: Regenerator
item: Audinite
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
nature: Bold

Moves
========

Calm Mind increases Mega Audino's Special Attack and Special Defense, allowing it to hit harder and set up easier on special attackers. Dazzling Gleam offers the most coverage for a mono-attacker set. Rest renders any status condition useless and heals Mega Audino back to full health, allowing it to repeatedly set up with Calm Mind. Wish offers a means of recovery, Mega Audino's bulk allowing it to regain more health that it loses against weaker Pokemon such as Seismitoad, Weezing, and Vileplume. Sleep Talk takes advantage of a set number of sleep turns induced by Rest, and furtherly helps Mega Audino to set up or deal damage to the opponent. Fire Blast offers a way of getting past Steel-types, such as Ferroseed, Klinklang, and Mawile, while also hitting Poison-types harder than Dazzling Gleam. Heal Bell augments Mega Audino's longevity, allowing it to get rid of status condition that could threaten it out.

Set Details
========

252 HP EVs, 252 Defense EVs, and a Bold nature maximize Mega Audino's bulk and is the most optimal EV spread due to the fact that Mega Audino's main goal will be to increase its Special Attack and Special Defense through Calm Mind, therefore investment in any of those two being redundant. Regenerator is the most useful ability prior to mega evolving, allowing Audino to pivot in the early-game whilst remaining healthy.

Usage Tips
========

In the early-game Audino can be used as a bulky pivot into weak attacks, especially from defensive Pokemon, such as Seismitoad, Regirock, Lanturn, and Quagsire, or status moves, keeping itself healthy through Regenerator and being able to heal off any status condition with Rest, or Heal Bell later on. Holding off for as long as possible on mega evolving allows Audino to regain health with Regenerator and more reliably pass a Wish to a teammate. Audino's natural bulk prior to mega evolving is usually enough to be able to pass Wishes against commonly used defensive Pokemon, such as Vileplume, Regirock, and Claydol. If it only runs one offensive move in Dazzling Gleam, it can be easily stopped by Steel- and Poison-types, such as Klinklang, Mawile, Garbodor, and Muk, thus trying to set up Calm Minds before all of them are weakened or fainted is not suggested. Once Mega Audino's main counters have been defeated, Calm Mind against Pokemon that cannot 2HKO Mega Audino, such as Seismitoad, Vileplume, Hariyama, and Sneasel, and make use of Rest, Wish, or Heal Bell to prepare a sweep.

Team Options
========

Offensive Fire- and Fighting-types, such as Magmortar, Typhlosion, and Sawk, can dispatch of Steel-type Pokemon which threaten Mega Audino, such as Mawile and Klinklang. Fighting-type teammates also constantly pressure opposing Poison-types, gradually weakening them for Mega Audino. The previously mentioned Fighting-types also have access to moves such as Earthquake and Zen Headbutt, allowing them to lure in and dispatch of Poison-type Pokemon such as Garbodor and Muk. Bulky Calm Mind users, such as Uxie, Xatu, and Musharna, also pressure the opposing Steel-types, constantly whittling down one another's checks with Mega Audino. Defensive Ground-types, such as Seismitoad, Quagsire, and Rhydon, can take out opposing Poison- and Steel-types, such as Garbodor, Mawile, and Klinklang. Offensive Bug- and Dark-types, such as Scyther, Vivillon, Sneasel, and Malamar can take out other Calm Mind users, such as Uxie and Musharna, that can defeat Mega Audino in a Calm Mind war due to their access to Psyshock. Ferroseed can take on both Poison- and Steel-types attacks aimed at Mega Audino and stack entry hazards, allowing Mega Audino to sweep in the end-game with a lesser number of Calm Minds. Defensive Poison-types, especially Garbodor and Weezing, can take on powerful physical hitters, weaken them with Rocky Helmet and Will-O-Wisp respectively, while also being able to set Toxic Spikes that will allow Mega Audino to stall out other Pokemon due to its massive bulk. Losing Regenerator after mega evolving makes Audino easier to be worn down by entry hazards, thus Pokemon such as Mantine, Pelipper, and Claydol can help clear the field of entry hazards, allowing Audino to reliably switch into more offensive threats, such as Kangaskhan, Malamar, and Archeops.

Offensive Calm Mind
########
name: Offensive Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Dazzling Gleam
move 3: Fire Blast
move 4: Surf / Psychic
ability: Regenerator
item: Audinite
evs: 172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========

Calm Mind boosts Mega Audino's Special Attack and Special Defense, transforming it into a considerable offensive force. Dazzling Gleam stands as the most realiable move. Fire Blast is used to defeat Steel-types, such as Klinklang and Mawile, that would otherwise force out Mega Audino. It also hits defensive Pokemon such as Vileplume, Tangela, and Gourgeist considerably harder, giving them less of a chance to dent Mega Audino. Surf mainly hits Fire-types that take little damage from Dazzling Gleam and Fire Blast, such as Camerupt, Magmortar, and Typhlosion. Psychic hits Poison-types such as Garbodor and Muk that can easily defeat Mega Audino with their STAB Poison-type moves.

Set Details
========

A Modest nature and 252 Special Attack EVs maximize Mega Audino's damage output. 84 Speed EVs are used to outspeed up to uninvested base 60 Pokemon, such as Weezing, Gourgeist-XL, and Vileplume. The remaining 172 HP EVs further increase Mega Audino's bulk. Regenerator is the best ability to use prior to mega evolving, allowing Audino to keep itself healthy if it takes damage too early in the match.

Usage Tips
========

The main use of Offensive Calm Mind Mega Audino is to act as a lure to its most common switch-ins and take them out with the array of coverage options it holds. Its low Special Attack and Speed forces Mega Audino into predicting the faster switch-ins, such as Klinklang, Mawile, and Pawniard, and hitting them with the appropriate coverage move in order to defeat them. Lacking a reliable means of recovery, offensive Mega Audino should be used during the mid-game to take out opposing Steel- and Poison-types, opening up sweeping opportunities for teammates that appreciate those gone, such as Vivillon, Sawk, and Mawile. Mega Audino's natural bulk allows it to take quite a handful of weaker attacks, especially from defensive Pokemon such as Seismitoad, Cryogonal, Vileplume, and Claydol, therefore, if opposing hard hitters are fainted it can manage to sweep in the late-game with just a few Calm Mind boosts.

Team Options
========

Defensive Water / Ground types, such as Quagsire and Seismitoad, can defeat both Steel- and Poison-types that threaten Mega Audino, such as Klinklang, Mawile, and Muk. Psychic-types, such as Mesprit, Uxie and Jynx, appreciate having Mega Audino weaken Steel-types, and they can easily defeat Poison-types that threaten Mega Audino, such as Garbodor and Muk. Bulky Psychic-types, such as Uxie and Musharna, form a great duo of Calm Mind users with Mega Audino, constantly pressuring one another's checks and counters, such as Klinklang and Mawile. Offensive Bug-types such as Scyther and Vivillon appreciate having the Steel- and Poison-types weakened, while they are able to defeat bulky Calm Mind users, such as Musharna, and Uxie, that could win a Calm Mind war against Mega Audino. Offensive Dark-types can also take out the previously mentioned bulky Calm Mind users. Offensive Steel-types such as Klinklang, Mawile, and Pawniard put a lot of pressure on the same Steel-types that Mega Audino can lure in and defeat. Offensive Fighting-types, such as Sawk and Primeape, can take out Steel-types for Mega Audino and also appreciate its ability to lure in and defeat Poison-types, especially Vileplume and Garbodor.

Specially Defensive
########
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Wish
move 2: Protect
move 3: Heal Bell
move 4: Knock Off / Dazzling Gleam
ability: Regenerator
item: Leftovers / Audinite
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
nature: Careful / Calm

Moves
========

Wish is the most reliable means of recovery, while also being able to replenish the health of a teammate. Protect allows Audino to reliably heal itself back up with Wish, scout for Choice-locked moves, and stall for Leftovers recovery or passive damage on the opponent. Heal Bell keeps your team free of any status condition. Knock Off gets rid of items from the Pokemon that switch into Audino, such as Vileplume, Magmortar, and Garbodor, cutting into their longevity or offensive presence. If Audunite is used, Dazzling Gleam allows Mega Audino to deal more damage and not be completely shut down by Taunt users, such as Liepard or Samurott. Encore is an option that takes advantage of setup sweeper trying to boost on Audino.

Set Details
========

252 HP EVs, 252 Special Defense EVs and a Special Defense boosting nature are used to maximize Audino's special bulk. Careful nature is the preferred choice if Audino runs Knock Off, while Calm is the nature of choice if Dazzling Gleam is used as the offensive move. Regenerator keeps Audino healthy and allows it to pass a Wish teammates while regaining health itself. Leftovers offer passive recovery and augments Audino's longevity. Investing 48 Special Attack EVs is an option that allows Mega Audino to 3HKO Malamar, making it impossible for it to set up on Audino.

Usage Tips
========
The most efficient way of supporting your team with Wish or Heal Bell is switching Audino in defensive Pokemon, such as Seismitoad, Vileplume, and Regirock, as they cannot signifiantly damage Audino. Even if fully invested in Special Defense, Audino takes huge chunks of damage from powerful special attackers, such as Typhlosion, Magmoratar, and Psychic-types that hit on the physical side with Psyshock, such as Jynx.

Team Options
========

Audino's bulk and support moves, especially Wish and Heal Bell, make it a good fit on bulkier teams, or even stall teams, that can afford to have reliable switch-ins to most situations and thus take advantage of Audino's ability to replenish their health. Entry hazard stackers, such as Garbodor, Weezing, and Ferroseed, increase Mega Audino's ability to stall out opposing Pokemon, and they appreciate the Heal Bell and Wish support in return. Bulky Psychic-types such as Musharna and Uxie can switch into Fighting-type Pokemon that threaten Audino and defeat them with their STAB Psychic moves. As Typhlosion, Mega Camerupt, and Magmortar are some of the few special attackers that can 2HKO Audino, a Fire-type check, such as Mantine and Hariyama, can pair up well with it. Rapid Spinners, such as Claydol and Sandslash, make good teammates as they can clear the field of entry hazards and potentially setting up their own. Almost all offensive Pokemon can benefit from having their status condition healed or health replenished, especially Fighting-type resistant Pokemon such as Scyther, Exeggutor, and Mesprit.

Other Options
########

Healing Wish can be used on the Offensive Calm Mind set as a way to fully heal back a teammate when Mega Audino's job is done. The suggested Speed EVs let Mega Audino outspeed common defensive Pokemon, such as Vileplume, Hariyama, and Regirock, and get off Healing Wish even when severly weakened. Thunder Wave harshly cripples offensive switch-ins, such as Klinklang and Typhlosion. Grass Knot hits Quagsire, that otherwise renders the Calm Mind boosts useless. Draining Kiss offers another form of recovery and delays the need of using Rest, but it comes with a substantial power decrease.

Checks & Counters
########

**Steel-types**: Steel-types such as Klinklang, Mawile, and Pawniard can set up on the defensive sets and easily 2HKO Mega Audino. Offensive Calm Mind Audino lures in Steel-types and manages to 2HKO them with Fire Blast.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types such as Garbodor and Muk resist Mega Audino's Fairy-type STAB moves and can 2HKO with Gunk Shot. If it runs Psychic, Mega Audino can 2HKO Garbodor by hitting it on the switch-in.

**Psychic-type Calm Mind Users**: Psychic-types, such as Uxie, Mesprit, Xatu, and Musharna, can boost along Mega Audino with Calm Mind and proceed to defeat it with Psyshock.

**Powerful Special Attackers**: Pokemon such as Typhlosion and Mega Camerupt can 2HKO most variants of Mega Audino and regular Audino with their Fire-type STAB moves. Calm Mind Audino running Surf can defeat Mega Camerupt, and even defeat Typhlosion if it manages to get a Calm Mind prior to taking its Fire-type attacks.

**Powerful Physical Attackers**: Pokemon such as Choice Band Sawk and Zangoose can manage to 2HKO any variant of Mega Audino. Sawk's Fighting-type leaves it weak to Mega Audino's Dazzling Gleam, thus it can only defeat it if Mega Audino switches into its attacks.

**Curse Quagsire**: Quagsire's Unaware ability allows it to tank Mega Audino's hits while setting up its own Curse boosts and healing back up with Recover. Mega Audino can 2HKO Quagsire only if it runs Grass Knot as a coverage move.

**Taunt**: Taunt users, such as Archeops, Samurott, and Pyroar can stop the defensive sets from setting up or healing, and proceed to slowly whittle them down. Calm Mind Audino has the power to defeat them, especially if it gets a Calm Mind boost before getting Taunted.

Not QC obviously, but I definitely think WishTect Mega Audino should get its own set, if not just straight up slash Audinite with regular Audino's set; it's basically just the best of both worlds as Regenerator can be used pre-Mega and when you need its superior bulk and typing you can mega evolve it
http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/str8-up-wallin.3530302/ Here's QueenOfLuvdiscs's rmt and his spread, though obviously the team's a month old and you or qc can change the spread or w/e

Hey I brought this up with QC. So far the good sets I've seen are CM RestTalk, CM + Wish + 2 attacks, CM + 3 Attacks, Wish + Protect Megadino, Wish + Protect normal Audino, and twave + HW pivot. I've also heard about CM / Wish / Heal Bell / Dazzling Gleam, which I have not personally tested out myself. I think all of these are good enough options, the question now is how we end up slashing the sets.

The QC consensus so far seems to be that we can group the sets as: defensive CM (Resttalk ofc, and mention cm + wish + heal bell as an option.), offensive CM (2 or 3 attacks), then Wishpass (mention both Leftovers and Audinite as held item, mention more physically bulky spread if mega). Not sure where the healing wish pivot will fit in, but we'll see I suppose.

So, just to add on to the above, here is a general idea of how the sets should look like based on what we discussed and what I gathered from what others said in the PM.

Defensive Calm Mind

move 3: Rest / Wish
move 4: Sleep Talk / Fire Blast / Heal Bell

nature: Bold

Offensive Calm Mind

nature: Modest

Healing Wish is pretty redundant alongside calm mind, and for now the twave + healing wish set should be in OO. Basically, Audino should be either using Calm Mind (since its too weak unboosted) or full wish pass + heal bell.

move 1: Wish
move 2: Protect
move 3: Heal Bell
move 4: Knock Off / Dazzling Gleam
ability: Regenerator
item: Leftovers / Audinite
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
nature: Careful / Calm

We agreed that Audinite deserves a slash on the spdef set, since both non mega and mega have their merits for this role. Also I put gleam over toxic because its pretty bad on audino.

Grass Knot can go in OO.
Remove p.def from OO.

For team options in both of the CM sets, specifically mention Cm psychics like uxie / mesprit / mush as they form a potent calm mind duo thanks to using their wide movepool to lure in or target each others typical checks and counters and type synergy between them.

Add curse quagsire in c&c.

Added all of it, thanks you two!
Also my reasoning behind having Healing Wish over Psychic: Psychic only really hits Garbodor considerably harder, as Muk isn't close to being a 2HKOed, and Weezing is also 2HKOed by +1 Fire Blast. But it's changed now. :^]

The rule that I follow when it comes to WishTect Mega Audino is that 232 HP / 208+ Def or SpD / 32 SpA is staple, depending if you need a special wall or a physical wall, then the remaining 36 evs can just go anywhere you fancy really

Brought up the discussion to Punchshroom, decided in the end to leave 252 / 252 spread as standard on WishTect Audino, but mentioned 52 SpA investment in Set Details that allow it to 3HKO Malamar.

Really nice work, I'll check this so we can get this moving along.

Overview
  • Offensive set is a great lure with coverage moves in Fire Blast, Surf, and Psychic for Pokemon such as Mawile, Klinklang, Mega Camerupt, Vileplume, etc.
Add to this point just saying that the moves hit pokemon that typically check audino such as (the mons you listed)
  • Viable sets as both physically defensive and specially defensive
I'd remove this point, since its somewhat implied when you say its the bulkiest mon in the tier.

Defensive CM
  • Draining Kiss offers another form of recovery and delays the need of using Rest, but it comes with a substantial power decrease
The recovery provided by Draining Kiss honestly just is not worth it, move it to OO for now unless another QC member strongly disagrees.
  • 252 HP EVs, 252 Def EVs and a Bold nature maximize Mega Audino's bulk
Note that a physically defensive spread is the most efficient since you're going to be boosting your special defense with calm mind so having spdef investment would be redundant. May seem obvious, but its important for newer players.
  • Calm Mind against Pokemon that cannot 2HKO Mega Audino, Rest / Wish when it is low on health, Sleep Talk / Heal Bell and repeat
I'd probably list some of the Pokemon that Mega Audino can typically set up on, defensive mons like seismitoad or primplup or offensive pokemon that cannot 2hko you or those that you force out like tauros, sneasel, or hariyama lacking heavy slam.
  • Offensive Fire- and Fighting-types, such as Magmortar, Typhlosion, and Sawk, can dispatch of Steel-type Pokemon which threaten Mega Audino, such as Mawile and Klinklang. Fighting-type teammates also constantly pressure opposing Poison-types, gradually weakening them for Mega Audino
Add here that fighting types can lure in poison types with earthquake (from yama or mold breaker sawk) or zen headbutt from sawk.

Offensive CM
  • Calm Mind increases Mega Audino's damage output special attack and special defense
  • 84 Spe EVs are used to outspeed up to uninvested base 60s, which includes Pokemon such as Weezing, Sliggoo [not relevant enough :x], Gourgeist-XL and Vileplume also add other stuff here like exeggutor and pawniard
For the SpDef set, change team options slightly to reflect that this set really only fits on semi-stall or full stall. Its more or less implied already, but give that a sentence in the writeup so readers know that.

Fix up spacing and remove the bullet points from C&C.

Tag me back and I'll give this another look.

boltsandbombers Did pretty much all of it. One thing though, I didn't mention Pawniard at the 84 EVs on Offensive CM set, as Pawniard itself usually runs Spe EVs unlike the other Pokemon there that are mainly defensive.

Oh yeah, mistake on my part. You might as well remove Exeggutor as well since they never run 0 Speed.
Anyways, you covered pretty much everything, good job.

  • The physically defensive set can wall most of the unboosted physical attackers in the tier, such as Archeops, Kangaskhan, Tauros, etc.
Doesn't really wall these that well. Archeops puts a lot of pressure on it (straight up wins if it runs Taunt), Kanga always 3HKOes, and Tauros usually does. I'd list stuff like Sneasel and Gurdurr instead. Also be sure to list stuff that spdef variants wall as well

I would expand on it being setup bait even outside of Steels, since it's super weak before a boost

I would mention hazard control for the first set as well since CM Audino is pretty easy to pressure with hazards

QC 2/3 after that

try to cut down a bit on the overview. overviews should be a brief paragraph about the main points of the pokemon: what it does, whether it does it well, where it struggles. the fact that it has heal bell and which specific pokemon it can wall aren't important.

not going to go through all of it right now, but from skimming, it looks good outside of the overly lengthy overview
