Exeggutor

[OVERVIEW]

Exeggutor is a unique Pokemon in NU, as it has excellent Special Attack backed by a great dual STAB typing, allowing it to check Fighting-, Water-, and Ground-types. Exeggutor has two distinct abilities that give it its own advantages, allowing it to play the role of a tank with Harvest or sweep teams while the sun is up with Chlorophyll. Exeggutor also has decent natural bulk, allowing it to switch on many defensively oriented Pokemon, such as Prinplup and Rhydon. However, Exeggutor is left with weaknesses to common attacking types in NU such as Dark, Bug, Fire, and Ice. Due to Exeggutor's plethora of weaknesses, Pokemon that it is supposed to check, such as Fighting- and Psychic-types, can easily exploit its weaknesses with their coverage moves. Exeggutor also has a very low Speed stat that allows it to be easily revenge killed when outside of the sun.

Moves
========

Leaf Storm deals massive damage to any Pokemon that does not resist it, but it has the draw back of cutting Exeggutor's Special Attack in half. Giga Drain, on other hand, is a more reliable STAB move that deals decent damage, recovers damage taken, and is consistent in power unlike Leaf Storm. Psychic hits Gurdurr, Bouffalant, and Flying-types such as Scyther and Fletchinder on the switch. Psyshock is an alternative if Exeggutor wants to hit specially bulky Pokemon, such as Assault Vest Hariyama, Magmortar, and Cryogonal, harder. Hidden Power Fire allows Exeggutor to hit Steel-types, such as Magneton, Klinklang, and Ferroseed, which otherwise resist its STAB combination. Sleep Powder is another option for team support, temporarily eliminating one of the opponent's Pokemon from the match. Alternatively, Exeggutor can use Ancient Power to 2HKO physically defensive Xatu, which takes all of Exeggutor's other moves very well.

Set Details
========

252 Special Attack EVs along with a Modest nature allow Exeggutor to hit as hard as possible, and 252 Speed EVs allow it to outspeed as many threats as possible. A Timid nature can be used to outspeed Adamant Golurk, defensive Garbodor, neutral-natured Aurorus, and Adamant Rampardos. Life Orb is used for a power boost and the ability to switch moves, easing prediction. If more power is needed, Choice Specs is another option, though Exeggutor's STAB moves are easily taken advantage of if locked into any of them. Chlorophyll is useful for outspeeding or Speed tying with other sun sweepers while the sun is up.

Usage Tips
========

It is generally best to bring Exeggutor in on weak Scalds from bulky Water-types, such as Prinplup, Lanturn, and Carracosta, as Exeggutor threatens all of these Pokemon with its Grass-type STAB moves. Exeggutor can also switch in on Ground-types such as Rhydon and Sandslash and threaten them with its Grass-type STAB attacks, though it must be wary of Megahorn from the former and Knock Off from the latter. With a Life Orb, Exeggutor can be played a bit more recklessly because it is able to switch moves, but make sure to use the appropriate move so Exeggutor is not worn down as fast from Life Orb recoil. Choosing the right move with Choice Specs is important, as it becomes very easy to play around Exeggutor, especially when locked into Leaf Storm. Moreover, locking into Psychic or Psyshock allows Dark-types such as Liepard and Sneasel to easily switch in and either Pursuit trap or set up on Exeggutor.

Team Options
========

This set generally works better on offensively-based teams with U-turn and Volt Switch users, so Pokemon such as Scyther and Choice Specs Lanturn pair well with Exeggutor and also appreciate Exeggutor's ability to take on Grass-, Rock-, and Ground-types. Probopass is another option because it can bring Exeggutor in undamaged with a slow Volt Switch, take on on Flying- and Bug-types, such as Fletchinder and Scyther, and set up Stealth Rock. Garbodor is a great partner, as it punishes common physical attackers, particularly U-turn users, and sets up entry hazards to wear down Pokemon, while Exeggutor is able to check Ground-types relatively well in return. Fletchinder is good partner, as Exeggutor is able to check the Rock- and Water-types that give Fletchinder trouble, while Fletchinder is able to revenge kill Pokemon that threaten Exeggutor, such as Scyther, Lilligant, and the various Fighting-types that use Knock Off, such as Sawk and Hariyama.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Giga Drain is a reliable STAB attack that allows Exeggutor to recover some of its lost health from tanking attacks. Psychic is a secondary STAB move that allows Exeggutor to hit Fighting-types, such as Sawk and Gurdurr, as well as Sap Sipper Bouffalant and Flying-types such as Scyther and Fletchinder on the switch. Psyshock is an alternative to hit specially bulky Pokemon, such as Assault Vest Hariyama, Magmortar, and Cryogonal. Sleep Powder is a great utility move, allowing Exeggutor to put a foe to sleep and gain free turns to switch out, use Rest, or attack. Rest is mandatory to this set's success, as it allows Exeggutor to recover to full health and heal any harmful status effects, such as poison and burn. It also works well in tandem with Lum Berry and Harvest, allowing Exeggutor to freely use Rest throughout the match.

Set Details
========

252 HP EVs are used to make Exeggutor as bulky as possible, allowing it to tank attacks much more comfortably. 84 Speed EVs are used to outspeed base 65 Speed Pokemon, such as Roselia and Pelipper. The rest of the EVs are put into Special Attack with a Modest nature to make Exeggutor hit relatively hard. Lum Berry is used to recover from status easily, and Harvest allows Exeggutor to bring back its Lum Berry after it has been consumed, though it is worth noting that it only works half the time outside of sun.

Usage Tips
========

Exeggutor makes for a good pivot into Ground- and Water-type, as it takes their STAB moves very well while threatening them with Giga Drain and recovering off any status or damage they deal to Exeggutor with Rest. It also works well as a status absorber because Lum Berry heals off any status condition. However, this forces Exeggutor to wait for Harvest to restore its Lum Berry before using Rest again. Make sure to keep Exeggutor healthy throughout the match if Pokemon that Exeggutor checks, such as bulky Water-types, are still around. Use Sleep Powder early-game to cripple one of the opponent's Pokemon, but try to avoid the use of the move if Pokemon that are immune to it are present, such as Xatu, Magmortar, and other Grass-types.

Team Options
========

This set is helpful on balanced teams that are weak to common attacking types, such as Grass, Water, and Ground, as Exeggutor is able to sponge hits with its decent bulk; as such, Pokemon such as Kabutops and Magmortar make decent partners. Garbodor is a great partner, as it punishes common physical attackers, particularly U-turn users, and sets up entry hazards to wear down Pokemon, while Exeggutor is able to check Ground-types relatively well in return. Due to Knock Off being very common and heavily crippling this set, Exeggutor should be paired with a Pokemon that can absorb Knock Off, such as Mega Audino. Fletchinder is another good partner, as it serves as a decent Knock Off absorber and can switch in on Calm Mind Psychic-types, such as Uxie and Musharna, while Exeggutor is able to absorb harmful status effects such as poison in return.

[SET]
name: Chlorophyll Sweeper
move 1: Solar Beam

ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Solar Beam is an extremely powerful STAB attack with no charge turn in the sun. Psychic is a good secondary STAB move, allowing Exeggutor to hit Fighting-types, such as Sawk and Gurdurr. Alternatively, Psyshock can be used to deal much more damage to specially bulky Pokemon, such as Hariyama, Magmortar, and Cryogonal. Hidden Power Fire lets Exeggutor hit Steel-types such as Ferroseed, Magneton, and Klinklang super effectively; the move also becomes more powerful in the sun. The fourth slot is for support; Sunny Day allows Exeggutor to function as a backup weather starter, while Sleep Powder allows Exeggutor to cripple any checks that may want to switch in, provided that they are not immune to the move.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack EVs are used to allow Exeggutor to hit as hard as possible. Maximum Speed EVs are used to ensure it outspeeds as many Pokemon as possible while under the sun. Chlorophyll doubles Exeggutor's Speed in the sun, allowing it to run a Modest nature and still outspeed +2 Jolly Shell Smash Crustle. Alternatively, a Timid nature lets Exeggutor outspeed Vivillon after a Quiver Dance boost. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it does not lock Exeggutor into any attack while increasing its damage output. Heat Rock is an option to increase Sunny Day's duration, but Exeggutor generally will not be staying in for more than five turns anyway and the power loss is significant.

Usage Tips
========

Because Exeggutor has decent natural bulk, it is best to switch it into either weak or resisted hits, such as Scald, and then begin launching powerful attacks. If sun has been already set up, it is best to have Exeggutor switch in safely, preferably via Uxie's Memento or U-turn or Regirock's Explosion. Generally, Exeggutor should only stay in when sun is up, as many offensive Pokemon are able to revenge kill it outside of sun. Use Sunny Day when no weather is up or when your weather starter has been eliminated from the match. If running Sleep Powder, use it early-game to cripple a potential check, but avoid using the move if Pokemon that are immune to it are present, such as Xatu, Magmortar, and other Grass-types.

Team Options
========

Because Exeggutor is meant to sweep under the sun, sun setters are mandatory. One of the better defensive users is Uxie, which can set up Stealth Rock and then use either Memento or U-turn to bring in Exeggutor safely. Regirock perform a similar role, using Explosion to quickly damage a foe and then safely bring in Exeggutor. Pokemon with Prankster, such as Liepard and Volbeat, are also useful, as they have access to priority Sunny Day, as well as priority Thunder Wave to cripple opposing Pokemon, while the former also has U-turn to safely bring in Exeggutor. Other Pokemon that can take advantage of sun help Exeggutor, including Fire-types such as Pyroar and Magmortar as well as other Chlorophyll users such as Sawsbuck and Victreebel. Pokemon that can easily beat members of rain teams help, as they severely weakens Exeggutor and other Pokemon that benefit from sun. Kabutops and Kangaskhan can threaten Swift Swim users with high-powered attacks and dual priority, respectively.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Harvest with a stat-boosting Berry can raise Exeggutor's stats, but in doing so, Exeggutor loses out on its main form of recovery in LumRest and has to use Synthesis to recover HP instead. An offensive Harvest set with Petaya Berry is also an option to boost Exeggutor's Special Attack to high levels, but it tends to be unreliable because of Harvest's 50% success rate outside of sun. A Kee Berry alongside Worry Seed immensely cripples Malamar by preventing it from recovering with Rest and allowing Exeggutor to gain more Defense as Malamar boosts its stats. Colbur Berry is also useful, as it is the only Berry that is not lost with Knock Off and allows Exeggutor to check Fighting-types more reliably. Trick Room is another option, as Exeggutor has low enough Speed and high enough Special Attack to pull it off with decent success. Exeggutor can also run a Swords Dance set to lure in and remove some of its normal checks and counters, such as Xatu, Zweilous, and Sneasel. It can do so effectively due to its decent Attack and wide physical movepool.

Checks & Counters
=================

**Bug-types**: Pokemon such as Scyther and Pinsir threaten Exeggutor with U-turn and X-Scissor, respectively, while resisting Exeggutor's Grass-type STAB moves, though both of them must watch out for Hidden Power Fire or Ancient Power. Vivillon threatens Exeggutor with its STAB Hurricane, though it does not appreciate switching into Hidden Power Fire or Ancient Power.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Sneasel, Rotom, Archeops, and Magmortar are all examples of Pokemon that force Exeggutor out with their super effective STAB attacks, though none of these Pokemon can safely switch in. Sneasel threatens Exeggutor with both of its STAB types and can remove Exeggutor's item with Knock Off, trap it with Pursuit, or pick it off with Ice Shard.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types, such as Magneton, Mawile, and Klinklang resist all of Exeggutor's STAB moves, while Magneton threatens Exeggutor with Flash Cannon, Klinklang can set up Substitute and Shift Gear if Exeggutor is locked into Leaf Storm, and Mawile is able to set up Swords Dance and hit Exeggutor with Sucker Punch. However, all of them are outsped while Exeggutor is in the sun and cannot safely switch in on Hidden Power Fire.

**Xatu**: Xatu can switch in on any move that Exeggutor has bar Ancient Power and retaliate with either Heat Wave or U-turn as well as heal any damage taken with Roost.

**Zweilous**: Zweilous is immune to Exeggutor's Psychic STAB moves, resists its Grass-type STAB attacks, does not care about any of Exeggutor's coverage moves, and threatens with Crunch.

**Knock Off Users**: Knock Off hits Exeggutor super effectively and will often KO it outright. If Knock Off fails to KO, it will still remove Exeggutor's item, either reducing its ability to absorb status or reducing its damage output.

**Priority Attackers**: Acrobatics from Fletchinder revenge kills Exeggutor no matter how fast it is. Kangaskhan and Pawniard are able to revenge kill Exeggutor with Sucker Punch, though it is worth noting Exeggutor can avoid Sucker Punch if it is running Sleep Powder. Sneasel is also able to pick off a weakened Exeggutor with Ice Shard.

**Grass-types**: Most Grass-types, such as Lilligant and Ludicolo, can switch in on Giga Drain or Sleep Powder and proceed to attack or set up on Exeggutor, though they must watch out for Hidden Power Fire.

Changed all of the things Blastral said in the last thread and fixed up some sections of the analysis. Should be ready for more QC checks.

A Timid nature however, outspeeds positive base 52s at +2, such as Gorebyss and Huntail, and is able to OHKO them with Solarbeam
i could be wrong but this situation would probably never happen. the only time this would ever make sense is when egg and gorebyss are both the very last mons alive and you both use sunny day and shell smash together, gorebyss doing so because it has nothing to switch out to, thinking egg must have giga drain and the game is over right there (edit: in fact if i were gorebyss i would just ice beam and hope for a crit or freeze at that point because im not expecting sunny day late game sweeper). and if egg is being used on a sunny day team, then is sun probably up already, and egg should be using sleep powder pretty much all of the time in my opinion. if egg doesn't have to use sunny day then it shouldn't, because putting a mon to sleep, especially if it's an egg counter, which is probably also a victreebell counter, is a major step in winning a battle using a sun team. also, modest is obviously more useful most of the time because ripping holes and scoring as many OHKOs as possible is crucial. looking at the speed tiers, the only thing that timid matters for is scarf mesprit. and i don't think timid is worth slashing just for that. one more thing, i personally would not mention heat rock at all because the power from life orb is mandatory imo and egg shouldn't be a support mon.

I mean, its not a very likely secenario, but its giving some Pokemon that you can outspeed. Think of it like this, gorebyss is already at +2 and is about to sweep your team, you switch in liepard to get sun back up with priority sun. You then outspeed with eggy and win.

Gorebyss also KOs from full with Ice Beam iirc.

I'll give this a full look through at a later date, I almost want SD to get a set cause its actually really good lol.

Alright I'll give this a look.

In the overview, the first bullet point should not be that its typing allows it to check x and y, because exeggutor is importantly much more of an offensive presence. State something like it has an excellent special attack stat backed by a great dual stab combo, akin to the second point.
  • Very low Speed and Special Defense Stats, however on Sun Teams, this problem is mitigated by Chlorophyll
Special defensive isnt mitigated by chlorophyll, and I dont really think the low spdef needs to be stated.
  • Forced out by most Fire-types in the tier as most of them are faster
  • Its typing leaves it with seven weaknesses; including an unfortunate weakness to Knock Off
These two points can be combined, yeah fire types are prevalent and such but keep it to just stating that it has a ton of easily exploitable weaknesses.

Offensive:
  • Leaf Storm deals massive damage backed up by the Modest nature and Choice Specs.
Choice Specs is not the only item on the set, reword this to say that it just deals massive damage to anything that does not resist it. Also state that its high power comes at the cost of lowering your special attack.
  • Giga Drain deals decent damage and recovers damage taken
Giga drain also has the benefit of not lowering exeggutor's special attack.
  • The third slot if for Psychic STAB, where Psychic has a higher base power and hits Bulk Up users like Gurdurr after they boost, but Psyshock can be used to OHKO Hariyama which can usually take a Psychic with the Assault Vest
Gurdurr is the only relevant bulk up user, so saying "bulk up users like gurdurr" implies there are more, which is not true. I would definitely also note that psychic hits bouffalant, as it is immune to grass moves thanks to sap sipper. In addition, there are other relevant specially bulky pokemon that psyshock targets such as flareon, muk, and magmortar. Lastly, exeggutor's psychic stab moves hit poison and flying types [add examples] types which resist its grass moves.
  • Hidden Power Fire allows it to hit steel types as well as grass types, while Sleep Powder can be used for Team Support, allowing it to switch out pretty much freely.
List examples of mons that hidden power fire hits.
Why is there no bullet point for sleep powder?
  • A Timid nature allows it to outspend uninvested base 95s, specifically Xatu, but it can not do much to it anyway, so Modest is the preferred nature
Uninvested Xatu realistically doesn't exist since they almost always run some speed, whether it be just creep or to outpace base 70 Pokemon. Also fix that spelling error xd
What a timid nature allows you to outspeed, just from looking at the speed tiers are adamant golurk, modest / adamant aurorus, and adamant rampardos.
  • Since it does not have that much bulk, it is much better to bring in Exeggutor on a resisted hit, or Pokemon that have no way of hurting it like Seismitoad or Claydol
This isnt true, seismitoad can knock off or toxic / sludge bomb eggy (although to be frank this isnt too relevant as we're most likely losing toad tomorrow) and claydol runs shadow ball. 95 / 85 physical bulk is decent, so I wouldn't say it doesnt have that much bulk, it would be better worded as just saying to pivot into weak / resisted hits to fire off a powerful attack.
  • It can also be brought in on locked in moves, like a specs Rotom Thunderbolt, or Extrasensory from Typhlosion
Pick a different example here.

In usage tips, mention that Exeggutor can pivot into rock / ground / grass type moves from the likes of rhydon, sandslash, and torterra, but it must be wary of their coverage moves [megahorn, knock off, crunch]

Add garbodor to team options because exeggutor checks the bulky ground types that bother garbodor while in return garbodor punishes u-turn users and physical attackers in general that can revenge kill exeggutor.
  • This set generally works better on Offensively based teams with U-Turn or Volt Switch users, as it can then be brought in safely. This includes Pokemon like Scyther and Arceops. Probopass is another option because it can bring it in undamaged with a slower volt switch.
Note that Exeggutor threatens bulky rock, water, and ground types that bother both of these pokemon (scyther and archeops).

Lum Rest:
  • Psychic is a good secondary STAB, allowing Executor to hit fighting types like Sawk and Gurdurr. Psyshock can be used to hit more Specially Bulky Pokemon, dealing much more damage to Pokemon like Hariyama.
Psyshock is slashed first and psychic is listed first in the bullet point, just make the two match, I don't have a huge preference as to which is slashed first.
  • Rest is the main move of the set, allowing it to recover to full health, and Harvest bringing back the Lum Berry to let it wake up immediately.
  • 88 Speed in order to let it outspend base 65’s and lower, including negative speed nature Seismitoad
The set is using 84 speed, not 88 and fix spelling error. The three base 65 pokemon that are relevant for exeggutor to outspeed are sandslash (which I'm iffy on because they dont run 0 speed), roselia, and pelipper. Add the bolded part about seismitoad, but remove it when / if we lose it.
  • Can be brought in easily against electric types, as well as Fighting Types lacking Knock Off
I dont think it can easily be brought in on electric types since rotom has shadow ball, rotom-s has air slash, zebstrika has overheat, and evire has flamethrower. Also what fighting type doesnt have knock off? There's hitmonchan which we're getting soon (don't add it yet) but that statement doesnt seem right to me.
  • Should not also be used that recklessly, as it still has only decent bulk, and does not takes certain hits that well with its typing. This includes moves like U-Turn, Knock Off, or Ice Beam, all of which can almost always kill it.
I mean, of course a 4x super effective move is going to kill you rofl
Non stab Knock Off and ice beams dont always kill.
Be sure to list all the moves on the set in usage tips, like when to throw around a sleep powder (hint: not if they have something immune to it like magmortar / bouff / xatu)

Sun Sweeper:
  • Chlorophyll is what makes the set so deadly, as it gives it +2 Speed while in the Sun, allowing it to outpace up to +1 Neutral base 89s, like Vivillon, with a Modest nature. A Timid nature however, outspeeds positive base 52s at +2, such as Gorebyss and Huntail, and is able to OHKO them with Solarbeam
+1 Timid vivillon hits 456 speed, while modest exeggutor in the sun only hits 409. A timid nature allows exeggutor to outspeed +1 vivillon.

No SD set imo, its fine in oo.
This is a lot of stuff, tag me back when you've implemented.

I mean, its not a very likely secenario, but its giving some Pokemon that you can outspeed. Think of it like this, gorebyss is already at +2 and is about to sweep your team, you switch in liepard to get sun back up with priority sun. You then outspeed with eggy and win.
my problem with that is i don't think gorebyss would ever get a chance to set up because of how reckless one tends to play sunny day teams. in theory yeah it could happen, but i find that gorebyss is hard pressed to get that free turn. in addition i think there are typically other answers for gorebyss. for example egg is the slowest of the sun sweepers so if you see gorebyss in the team line up then just remember bring out egg first (which i tend to do anyways, for a sleep powder) and save your faster sweepers for gorebyss, in the event that it does happen to set up. i can't remember any instance of even thinking about having timid on egg. viv is kind of the same especially since they're only leads and like to set up early so egg isn't needed (i run rhydon as my flying resist which handles QD viv easily). i see how timid offers extra insurance against 2 or 3 mons, but i just don't think you need the extra insurance. i believe it's way more useful to use modest like all of the time. doing 8-9% more with neutral attacks against bulky mons like audino sometimes means the difference between 2hko and ohko.

  • Chlorophyll grants it double Speed while in the Sun, allowing it to outpace up to +1 Neutral base 89s, like Vivillon, with a Timid nature
  • A Modest nature lets it hit even harder though it does miss out on outspeeding key Pokemon
if you're even going to mention timid at all then don't make it the preferred nature! x_x but if that's what mont wants then it's all good.

Updated to the new format, added a priority section to c&c that includes Pawniard, Kangaskhan, and Fletchinder, merged U-turn and bug-types together, added Fletchinder as partner to the first set, and added Stall Breaker Fletchinder to the second set because it stop Calm Mind user from setting up all over Eggy.

[Overview]
I think you're trying too hard to find mons that Exeggutor checks, Kabutops 2HKOes with Stone Edge and Kangaskhan 2HKOes with Double Edge. It doesn't have a unique typing per say that allows it to check a particular threat unlike other Pokemon, so I'd just leave it at how it checks common ground, water, and fighting types. More specifically, it doesnt exactly wall any Pokemon in particular, while something like lets say Zweilous has a very unique typing that allows it to check common FWG cores as well as being one of the few Pokemon that resists Exeggutor's STAB moves.

The bullet point about versatility is somewhat misleading, as it is portraying Exeggutor more versatile than it actually is, as the sets aren't too different in nature, one is just somewhat bulkier. Its not really outlasting foes much because of its low speed, it just takes hits better. What you should say here is the different advantages each of its abilities have, simply that Chlorophyll allows it to check sun teams as well as being an important place on said sun teams; and how Harvest allows it to act as a status absorber for the team.

The last bullet is also somewhat unclear, because saying that its weak to Signal Beam and Knock Off really just isnt necessary to mention in the overview. Keep it simple at how it has a plethora of exploitable weaknesses (you could add on here, most notably common attacking types such as x, y, and z - most of exeggutor's weaknesses are very common so you can just pick whichever three you feel fit best).

[Offensive]

[Moves]
Honestly finding it hard to justify using Psyshock, as Hariyama usage has extremely decreased and the only other Pokemon it hits are Cryogonal and Flareon. The majority of specially bulky Pokemon that realistically would take the harder hit from Psyshock are weak to Grass, and not to mention Psychic still does a number to AV Hariyama. I guess maybe for Mantine? That's decreasing in usage as well.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Exeggutor Psychic vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Hariyama: 338-402 (78.7 - 93.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
We all know how easy it is to wear down Hariyama, so yeah. I guess you could keep it slashed for now, but dropping it to a moves mention isnt out of the picture.

[Set Details]
Max speed isnt used for uninvested base 86 Pokemon, they don't exist at all. The only base 86 Pokemon are the non-normal Rotom formes, and even defensive ones almost always run Speed investment. Just say that it is used to outspeed as many threats as possible. A Timid nature also outspeeds standard defensive Garbodor, which is pretty important.
I'd personally like to see Life Orb slashed first, or at least have some input on the idea. Basically, Exeggutor fares best against slower teams, as being able to switch up coverage moves tends to be more beneficial than the extra boost in power, as it prevents your opponent from taking advantage of you locked into a move.

[Usage Tips]
A little bothersome that I don't see "water type" mentioned at all here, as Exeggutor is an excellent check to bulky Water types for obvious reasons. While it is true that some carry a status move or coverage to hit it with (toxic from quag / prinplup / costa, u-turn from pelipper, air slash from mantine, ice beam from lanturn etc), Exeggutor threatens them out and resists most of their STAB moves. Its not on per say Cacturne level of punishing them from clicking scald, it still gives you the upper hand if Exeggutor can come in on a weaker attack from the likes of these Pokemon. I know this was briefly mentioned in the first bullet point, but its important to list some of the weaker defensive Pokemon it can switch in on.

Specs Rotom and Banded Sawk are not very good examples of Pokemon it can switch in on. Firstly, I don't consider Specs Rotom to be a very good set, as if you choose to forgo the Speed from the typical Choice Scarf set, a Spell Tag Hex set is almost always better to be able to switch up moves and have somewhat of a surprise factor. And even if you do consider it to be a good set, Specs tbolt does ~40% and Shadow Ball OHKOs obviously, and you really don't want your wallbreaker taking that much damage. Banded Sawk 2HKOes you no matter what move it chooses.
Something else that should be added to the usage tips is how it can pivot into Rock and Ground types with relative ease, but it should be wary of their coverage or status moves such as Megahorn from Rhydon, Knock Off from Sandslash, and twave from Regirock.

[Team Options]
Combine the first two bullet points.
Remove the part about entry hazard removal, as it is really arbitrary in that its just any other offensive Pokemon which by definition is worn down by entry hazards, its only important to note entry hazard removal for Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock or have Sturdy.
Add Garbodor, like I said earlier: "Add garbodor to team options because exeggutor checks the bulky ground types that bother garbodor while in return garbodor punishes u-turn users and physical attackers in general that can revenge kill exeggutor."

[LumRest]

[Moves]
Slash Psychic first, its better on this set as without a boosting item its more beneficial to have the stronger bp move and
Talk about some other Pokemon the chosen Psychic STAB move hits, like you have in the first set.

[Set Details]
Typically, 248 HP is used to take less damage from Stealth Rock, but 393 and 394 HP take the same damage from rocks, so its probably better to make the spread 252 / 172 / 84.

[Usage Tips]
Can it really be safely brought in on electric types? In the previous thread, Blastral pointed out that the only Electric type in this meta that it beats is Lanturn, and thats pushing it since it just volt switches on out or hits hard with a specs ice beam / signal beam. Its much more notable that with harvest and a lum berry it is a much safer switch in to bulky water types as it doesnt have to worry all that much about being Toxiced.

[Team Options]
Remove the hazard control bullet point for reasons stated above.
I still dont want to see stallbreaker fletchinder mentioned because I havent heard much about it apart from Disjunctions original post or seen any good replays of it. To be honest, it sounds really good on paper but I have no idea how it does in practice, and it really just sounds mediocre in comparison to the basic SD set.
Add Garbodor.

Chlorphyll sweeper looks fine.

[OO]
Sub Leech seed sounds awful and is more just annoying than it is effective lol, I'd remove it.
When you talk about some of the other berries that can be used with Harvest, add that with Worry Seed alongside a Kee berry allows Exeggutor to cripple Malamar.
Remove Meadow Plate, if I want to switch up moves I'd use Life Orb, and Exeggutor certainly doesn't bait in Hariyama.

[C&C]
Grass types certainly should not be the first section, as they arent the best check to Exeggutor since it resists their STAB moves, some must rely on coverage to hit it, and they are hit hard with a Psychic STAB move.
There should be a section called "Offensive Type Advantage" where general examples of offensive Pokemon that have a super effective STAB move that threaten out exeggutor are listed, and not which resist one of Exeggutor's STAB moves. Steel-types can still have their own section, however Klinklang only sets up a sub versus choice locked Exeggutor into Leaf Storm to stall out its PP and quickly lower Exeggutors Special Attack, but takes heavy damage from all of its attacks in general apart from Psyshock.
I'm iffy on having priority users as a section, since realistically they only threaten the chlorophyll set, which isnt all that common, because most if not all of the Pokemon listed outspeed it naturally anyways.
Add a section for Zweilous, as it is the other relevent defensive Pokemon that resists both of Exeggutor's STAB moves, and is a 100% counter to it unlike Xatu which can be caught off guard by the stray Ancientpower.

  • Exeggutor can be brought in on Ground-types, such as Rhydon and Sandslash and threaten them with its Grass STAB, though Exeggutor must be wary of Mega Horn from the former
It should also be wary of knock off from sandslash.

Get rid of the bullet point about entry hazard removal in TO of the lum rest set.

Expand a bit more on the offensive type advantage section of c&c

QC 2/3 after that

i dont think av hariyama should be mentioned as a teammate for the first set, and im also not to sure on probopass (tho that can stay cause slow volt switch is nice). Outside of type synergy, hariyama doesnt really help exeggutor that much. The flying weakness is really hard to have during the fletchinder meta. SO remove it as a teammate

mention magmortar as a psyshock target on all the sets, it is much frailer physically than specially

don't capitalize balance on lumrest set, you also have a lot of random words capitalized

you spelled exeggutor wrong in the chloro set :)

Solar Beam not Solarbeam

mention an offensive harvest set with petaya in OO, i know the ladder loves emolga pass but it actually isnt unviable (tho with a much better passer)
mention explosion in OO

mention vivillon under bug type counters, pinsir too
i dont like "offensive type advantage", I think a better word is just "Offensive Pokemon", but im not sure on that, Offensive type advantage sounds awkward though

3/3 otherwise, just try to fix up the writing a bit
Hootie

just chiming in here

OTR should get a mention in OO since there isn't one mention of Trick Room or OTR at all. I've had some good experiences with OTR w/ sitrus because it acts as one of the most reliable TR setters due to the fact that it just doesnt die.

[OVERVIEW]

Exeggutor is a unique Pokemon in NU, as it has excellent Special Attack backed by a great dual STAB typing, allowing Exeggutor to check Fighting-, Water-, and Ground-types. Exeggutor has two distinct abilities that give it its own advantages, allowing it to play the role of a tank with Harvest, (RC) or sweep teams while the Sun sun is up with Chlorophyll. Exeggutor also has a very low speed Speed stat which that allows it to be easily revenge killed when outside of the Sun sun.

Moves
========

Leaf Storm deals massive damage to any Pokemon that does not resist it, but it has the draw(remove space)back of cutting Exeggutor's power Special Attack in half. Giga Drain, (AC) on other hand, is a more reliable STAB move, deals decent damage, (AC) and recovers damage taken, (AC) and is as well as being consistent in power unlike Leaf Storm. Psychic hits Bulk Up Gurdurr, Bouffalant, (AC) and which gets a Sap Sipper boost from either of Exeggutor's Grass STAB and hits Flying-types, (RC) such as Scyther and Fletchinder on the switch. Psyshock is an alternative if Exeggutor wants to hit specially bulky Pokemon, such as Assault Vest Hariyama, Magmortar, (AC) and Cryogonal, (AC) harder. Hidden Power Fire allows Exeggutor to hit Steel-types, such as Magneton, Klinklang and Ferroseed, (AC) which otherwise resist its main STAB combination. Sleep Powder is another option for team support, temporarily eliminating one of the opponent's Pokemon from the match. Alternatively, Exeggutor can use Ancient Power to 2HKO Physically Defensive physically defensive Xatu, (AC) which, takes all of the main moves on the set Exeggutor's other moves very well.

Set Details
========

252 Special Attack EVs along with a Modest nature allows Exeggutor to hit as hard as possible and 252 Speed EVs allows it to outspeed as many threats as possible. A Timid nature can be alternatively used and allows Exeggutor to outspeed Adamant Golurk, defensive Garbodor, neutral-(AH)natured Aurorus, (AC) and Adamant Rampardos. A Life Orb is used for a power boost and the ability to switch up moves, easing prediction. If more power is needed, Choice Specs is another option, though Exeggutor's STABs are easily taken advantage of if locked into any of them. Chlorophyll is useful for outspeeding, (RC) or speed Speed tying, (RC) with other Sun sun sweepers while the Sun sun is up.

Usage Tips
========

It is generally best to bring Exeggutor in on weak Scalds from bulky Water-types, such as Prinplup, Lanturn, and Carracosta, as Exeggutor threatens all of these Pokemon with its Grass-type STAB moves. Exeggutor can also switch in on Ground-types, (RC) such as Rhydon and Sandslash and to threaten both them with its Grass-type STAB attacks, though Exeggutor must be wary of Megahorn from the former and Knock Off from the latter. For example Moreover, locking itself into Psychic or Psyshock, (RC) allows dark Dark-types like such as Liepard and Sneasel to easily switch in and either Pursuit trap or set(space)up on Exeggutor.

Team Options
========

This set generally works better on offensively-based teams with U-turn and Volt Switch users, so Pokemon, (RC) such as Scyther and Choice Specs Lanturn pair well with Exeggutor and also appreciate Exeggutor's ability to take on Grass-, Rock-, and Ground-types. Probopass is another option because it brings can bring Exeggutor in undamaged with a slow Volt Switch, as well as take take on on Flying- and Bug-types, such as Fletchinder and Scyther, (AC) and is also able set up Stealth Rock. Garbodor is a great partner, as it Punishes punishes common physical attacks aimed at Exeggutor attackers, such as particularly U-turn users, and sets up entry hazards to wear down Pokemon, (AC) while in return Exeggutor is able to check Ground-types relatively well in return. Fletchinder is good partner, as Exeggutor is able to check the Rock- and Water-types that give Fletchinder trouble, while in return, Fletchinder is able to revenge kill Pokemon that threaten Exeggutor, such as Scyther, Lilligant, and the various Fighting-types that use Knock Off, such as Sawk and Hariyama.

Moves

Giga Drain is a reliable Grass STAB attack that allows Exeggutor to recover some of its lost health from tanking attacks. Psychic is a secondary STAB move that allows Exeggutor to hit Fighting-types, such as Sawk and Gurdurr, as well as Sap Sipper Bouffalant and Flying-types such as Scyther and Fletchinder on the switch. Psyshock is an alternative to hit specially bulky Pokemon, such as Assault Vest Hariyama, Magmortar and Cryogonal. Sleep Powder is a great utility move, allowing Exeggutor to put something a foe to sleep and gives gain free turns to switch out, use Rest, or attack. Rest is mandatory to this set's success, as it allows Exeggutor to recover to full health and heal any harmful status effects, such as Toxic poison and Burn burn. It also works well in tandem with a Lum Berry plus and Harvest, allowing it Exeggutor to freely use Rest throughout the match.

Set Details
========

252 HP EVs are used to make Exeggutor as bulky as possible, allowing it to tank attacks much more comfortably. 84 Speed EVs are used to outspeed base 65 speed Speed Pokemon, such as Roselia and Pelipper. The rest of the EVs are put into Special Attack, and along with a Modest nature, makes to make Exeggutor hit relatively hard. Lum Berry is used to recover from status easily and Harvest allows it Exeggutor to bring back its Lum Berry after it has been consumed, though it is worth noting that it only works half the time outside of the Sun sun.

Usage Tips
========

Exeggutor makes for a good pivot into Ground- and Water-type, as it takes their STAB moves very well, (RC) while threatening them with Giga Drain and recovering off any status or damage they dealt to Exeggutor with Rest. It also works well as a Status Absorber status absorber because Lum Berry heals off any status condition. However, (AC) this forces Exeggutor to wait for Harvest to restore its Lum berry Berry before using Rest again. Make sure to keep Exeggutor healthy throughout the match if Pokemon that Exeggutor checks, such as bulky Water-types, (AC) are still around. Use Sleep Powder early-game to cripple one of the opponent's Pokemon, but try to avoid the use of the move if Pokemon that are immune to it are present, such as Xatu, Magmortar, and other Grass-types.

Team Options
========

This set is more helpful on balance teams that are weak to common attacking types, such as Grass, Water, (AC) and Ground, as Exeggutor is able to sponge hits with its decent bulk, (AC) so Pokemon, (RC) such as Kabutops or and Magmortar make decent partners. Due to Knock Off being very common and heavily crippling this set's functionality, Exeggutor should be paired with a Pokemon that sponges them can absorb Knock Off, such as Mega Audino. Fletchinder is another good partner, as it serves as a decent Knock Off absorber and can switches in on Calm Mind Psychic-types, such as Uxie and Musharna, while in return, Exeggutor is able to absorb harmful status effects such as Toxic poison in return.

Moves
========

Solar Beam is an extremely high powered move, and in the Sun, it has no recharge time powerful STAB attack with no charge turn in the sun. Psychic is a good secondary STAB move, allowing Exeggutor to hit Fighting-types, such as Sawk and Gurdurr. Alternatively, Psyshock can be used to deal much more damage to specially bulky Pokemon, such as Hariyama, Magmortar, (AC) and Cryogonal. Hidden Power Fire lets Exeggutor hit Steel-types, (RC) such as Ferroseed, Magneton, and Klinklang super effectively; the move also becomes more powerful, as well as becoming a higher powered when used in the Sun sun. The fourth slot is for support; Sunny Day allows Exeggutor to function as a backup weather starter, while Sleep Powder allows Exeggutor to cripple any checks that may want to switch in, provided that they are not immune to the move (don't forget about Magmortar and Xatu).

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack EVs are used to allow Exeggutor to hit as hard as possible. Maximum speed Speed EVs are used to ensure it outspeeds as many Pokemon as possible while under the Sun sun. Chlorophyll grants it doubles Exeggutor's Speed while in the Sun sun, allowing it to run a Modest nature and still outspeed up to a +2 Jolly nature Shell Smash-boosted Crustle with a Modest nature. Alternatively, a Timid nature lets it Exeggutor outspeed Vivillon after a Quiver Dance boost. Life Orb is the preferred item, as it does not lock Exeggutor into any attack while retaining great increasing its damage output. Heat Rock is an option to get more turns under the Sun increase Sunny Day's duration, but generally it Exeggutor generally will not be staying in for more than 5 five turns anyway and the power loss is significant.

Usage Tips
========

Because it Exeggutor has decent natural bulk, it is best to switch it into either weak or resisted hits, such as Scald, (AC) and then begin firing off (I will kill you) launching powerful attacks. If Sun sun has been already set(space)up prior, it is best to have Exeggutor switch in safely, preferably (inserted this word b/c there's plenty of ways for Exeggutor to get a free switch) via Uxie's Memento and or U-turn or Regirock's Explosion. Generally, Exeggutor in most scenarios should only stay in when the Sun sun is up, as without it, many offensive Pokemon are able to revenge kill it Exeggutor outside of sun. Use Sunny Day when no weather is up or when your weather starter has been already eliminated from the match. If running Sleep Powder, use it early-game to cripple a potential check, but avoid using the move if Pokemon that are immune to it are present, such as Xatu, Magmortar, and other Grass-types.

Team Options
========

Because it Exeggutor is meant to sweep under the sun, Sun sun setters are mandatory. One of the better defensive users is Uxie, which sets can set up Stealth Rock, (RC) and then uses either Memento or U-turn to bring in Exeggutor safely. Regirock preforms a similar role, except it uses using Explosion to quickly damage a foe Pokemon, (RC) and then safely bring in Exeggutor. Prankster Pokemon with Prankster, such as Liepard and Volbeat, (AC) are also useful, as they can setup have access to priority Sunny Day, and both have access to as well as priority Thunder Wave to cripple opposing Pokemon, (AC) while the former also has U-turn to safely bring in Exeggutor. Other Pokemon that can take advantage of Sun sun help Exeggutor, including Fire-types which, includes Pokemon, such as Pyroar and Magmortar that deal huge amounts of damage with Sun-boosted Fire Blast or as well as other Chlorophyll users, (RC) such as Sawsbuck and Victreebel. Pokemon that can easily beat members of a Rain rain teams help, as they rain severely weakens Exeggutor and other Sun abusers Pokemon that benefit from sun, by powering down Fire-type moves, lowering their speed and making Solar Beam into a charge up move. Pokemon that help with this includes Kabutops and Kangaskhan, all of which can threaten Swift Swim users with high powered attacks from the former and dual priority, respectively from the latter.

Other Options
=============

Harvest has myriad of other berries that can be used such as the with a stat-boosting Berry Kee or Starf berry which boost can raise Exeggutor's stats, but in doing so, it Exeggutor loses out on its main form of recovery in LumRest and has to use Synthesis to recover HP instead. An offensive Harvest set with Petaya berry Berry is also an option to boost Exeggutor's special attack Special Attack to high levels, but it tends to be unreliable because of Harvest's 50% success rate outside of Sun sun. A Kee berry Berry used alongside the move Worry Seed immensely cripples Malamar by preventing it from recovering with Rest and allowing Exeggutor to gain more defense Defense as Malamar boosts its stats. Another useful berry to consider is a Colbur Berry is also useful, as it is the only berry Berry that is not lost with Knock Off, (RC) and allows it Exeggutor to check Fighting-types more reliably. Offensive Trick Room is another option, as Exeggutor has slow enough speed Speed and high enough special attack Special Attack to pull it off with decent success. Exeggutor can also run a Swords Dance set to lure in and remove some of its normal checks and counters, such as Xatu, Zweilous, and Sneasel. It can do so effectively due to its decent Attack and wide physical movepool. , with its decent Attack stat as it has a decent physical movepool with moves, such as Low Kick and Rock Slide, and it also effectively lures in and remove some of its normal checks and counters, such as Xatu, Zweilous and Sneasel.

Checks & Counters
=================

**Bug-types**: Pokemon, (RC) such as Scyther and Pinsir threaten Exeggutor with U-turn and X-Scissor, (AC) respectively, (AC) while resisting Exeggutor's Grass-type STAB moves, though both of them must watch out for either Hidden Power Fire or Ancient Power. Vivillon is another Bug-type that threatens Exeggutor with its STAB Hurricane, though, (RC) it does not appreciate switching into Hidden Power Fire or Ancient Power.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Sneasel, Rotom, Archeops, (AC) and Magmortar are all examples of Pokemon that force Exeggutor out with their super effective STAB attacks, though none of these Pokemon can safely switch in. Sneasel most notably threatens Exeggutor with its dual STAB both of its STAB types and can remove Exeggutor's item with Knock Off, trap it with Pursuit, or pick it off with Ice Shard., Knocking Off its item, Pursuit trapping it, or picking it off while it is in the Sun.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types, such as Magneton, Mawile, and Klinklang all resist all of Exeggutor's dual STAB moves, while in return, Magneton threatens Exeggutor with Flash Cannon, Klinklang sets up can set up Substitute and Shift Gear if Exeggutor locked itself is locked into Leafstorm Leaf Storm, and Mawile is able to set(space)up Swords Dance and hit Exeggutor with Sucker Punch. However, all of them are outsped while Exeggutor is in the Sun sun and cannot safely switch in due to on Hidden Power Fire.

**Xatu**: Xatu can switches in on any move that Exeggutor has to to offer, bar Ancient Power and retaliates back with either Heat Wave or U-Turn U-turn as well as healing any damage taken with Roost.

**Zweilous**: Zweilous is immune to Exeggutor's Psychic-type STAB moves, resists its Grass-type STAB attacks, and does not care about whatever coverage it may carry while in return, Zweilous any of Exeggutor's coverage moves, and threatens with Crunch.

**Knock Off Users**: Knock Off hits Exeggutor super effectively and will often KO it outright. If Knock Off fails to KO, it will still remove Exeggutor's and removes its item, crippling its Lum Rest set immensely and either reducing its ability to absorb status or reducing its damage output on its offensive sets, while dealing heavy damage if not outright OHKOing Exeggutor.

**Priority Attackers**: Gale Wings Acrobatics from Fletchinder revenge kills it Exeggutor no matter how fast Exeggutor it is. Kangaskhan and Pawniard are able to revenge kill Exeggutor with Sucker Punch, though it is worth noting Exeggutor can avoid Sucker Punch if it is running Sleep Powder on its Chlorophyll set. Sneasel is also able to pick off a weakened Exeggutor with Ice Shard.

**Grass-types**: Most grass types Grass-types, such as Lilligant and Ludicolo, can switch in on Giga Drain or Sleep Powder and proceed to attack or set(space)up on it Exeggutor, though they must watch out for Hidden Power Fire (Uh, Ludicolo doesn't care about HP Fire).

Usage Tips
========

Generally, Exeggutor should only stay in when sun is up, as many offensive Pokemon are able to revenge kill Exeggutor it outside of sun.

========

Because Exeggutor is meant to sweep under the sun, sun setters are mandatory. One of the better defensive users is Uxie, which can set up Stealth Rock and then use either Memento or U-turn to bring in Exeggutor safely. Regirock preforms perform a similar role, using Explosion to quickly damage a foe and then safely bring in Exeggutor. Pokemon that can easily beat members of rain teams help, as they severely weakens Exeggutor and other Sun abusers Pokemon that benefit from sun. Kabutops and Kangaskhan can threaten Swift Swim users with high-powered (add hyphen) attacks and dual priority, respectively.

Other Options
=============

=================

**Xatu**: Xatu can switch in on any move that Exeggutor has bar Ancient Power and retaliat back retaliate ('back' is redundant with 'retaliate') with either Heat Wave or U-turn as well as heal any damage taken with Roost.
