Nah that was actually just the spread I was using at the time of making that core when I posted it in Good Cores <.<

I think the spread you listed is probably a bit better though.

Sorry for the inactivity, been really busy lately.

Congratulations to astroboy, Dr Ciel and FalseHopes for winning this time :D It was a really tough choice between Manaphy and Slowbro ._.

Week 5 - Mega Pinsir

Pinsir @ Pinsirite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Quick Attack
- Return
- Close Combat

Pinsir used to be a defining force in the XY metagame, due to an excellent ability in Aeriliate, coupled with excellent priority in Quick Attack, as well as solid offensive stats which could be furthered by Swords Dance. It also boasted incredible coverage in Flying / Fighting, hitting the whole metagame for neutral coverage bar Thundurus and Zapdos. However, it has since fallen from grace in ORAS. Newfound Megas such as Mega Metagross and Mega Diancie, the rise in Talonflame, and the general Speed creep were the end of the line for Mega Pinsir.

Discuss!

Raikou @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Raikou hard checks or soft checks many prominent threats to Mega Pinsir, while it also appreciates bulky grass types weakened - something Mega Pinsir can quite easily do. It checks and does a number on Thundurus, Zapdos, Sp. Def Talonflame, and can leave a large dent in Mega Metagross and Mega Diancie. Additionally, it also provides Volt Switch support for Mega Pinsir, letting it get more set-up opportunities.

However, the two do not appreciate bulky ground-types, so additional support would be appreciated when using the two together.

Don't let your memes be dreams

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

Because this set needs sand support, you can also use:

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
Mega Pinsir relies on Quick Attack to break through faster targets. Sure a +2 QA does a lot but it doesn't break Thundurus, Raikou, Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Metagross, Mega Diance and Scarf Tyranitar. Other threats to Mega Pinsir are Hippowdon, Fat Chomp (kinda) Rhyperior, Talonflame, Zapdos and Skarmory.

Dealing with fast threats
The first problem is easily fixed by a sand rush / scarf Excadrill. Earthquake and Iron Head is enough to break to any fast pokemon bar Thundurus, which is beaten by Rock Slide.

Dealing with bulky pokemon
Zapdos, Rhyperior and Talonflame all lose 1v1 against Excadrill. This leaves the core with 3 big defensive threats: Hippowdon, Fat Chomp and Skarmory. Fat Garchomp is not really a problem because it lacks recovery: Excadrill does almost 50% with Earthquake which is enough to let Pinsir kill Garchomp after Stealth Rocks + Return. Hippowdon is a bit trickier, but by keeping offensive pressure and not allowing him to slack off, Excadrill can weaken Hippowdon easily. Skarmory unfortunately stalls both Excadrill and Mega Pinsir out.

Rapid Spin Support
Mega Pinsir has a big weakness to Stealth Rocks but Excadrill helps him with rapid spin support. Excadrill also beat many rock setters such as Clefable, Tyranitar and Heatran, although it can't beat Hippowdon, Fat Chomp and Skarmory 1v1.

Type Synergy
The type synergy between Excadrill and Mega Pinsir isn't perfect. They both share a fire weakness and they don't like switching into water attacks. However, Excadrills weakness to ground and fighting are resisted by Pinsir and Excadrill resists Pinsir's weakness to electric, rock and flying.

Banned deucer.
Reserving Latias cause as usual, I'm a generic fuck.

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish

LO Latias is one of, if not THE best partners to SD Mega Pinsir. Sharing decent offensive synergy with Mega Pinsir, Latias can switch into & take out common Fire & Electric type threats. Defog is Mega Pinsir's best friend, as with quadruple weakness to Stealth Rock, it can be worn down quite easily. Healing Wish gives Mega Pinsir a second chance at sweeping by restoring Pinsirs health back to full.

Staraptor @ Choice Band
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Double-Edge
- Close Combat
- U-turn

Mega Pinsir has very few true checks and counters as is, and Banded Raptor shares a lot of those same checks and counters. Staraptor doesn't really switch into Pinsir checks like Rotom and Zapdos. What it does do is force them into battle earlier, and then cripple and pressure them. Rotom for example takes 42 to 50% from Banded Brave Bird, and 85 to 100% from Banded Double-Edge. Similar situation with other Pinsir checks like Zapdos. Also capable of dealing high amounts of damage to Rhyperior and Tyranitar with CC or Final Gambit, who are among the bulkiest of Rock types (and typical Bird checks).

Serperior @ Miracle Seed
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Dragon Pulse
- Glare

Serperior obliterates some of Mega Pinsir's checks such as Rotom-Wash, Rhyperior, Mega Diancie, Slowbro, Hippowdon and Rocky Helmet Garchomp while also taking out Choice Scarf Tyranitar after a boost and weakening Skarmory fairly well. It doesn't do amazingly against Mega Metagross but it can Glare it which will help Pinsir in the long run. It can heavily weaken Zapdos, Raikou and Thundurus as well although it does not straight up beat them. Adding Serperior as a partner does exacerbate a weakness to Talonflame.

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

Magnezone is a great partner to Mega Pinsir. It can trap Skarmory for him, and checks Spe Def Talonflame for Pinsir. Furthermore, it can weaken Rotom-W with its Volt Switch. On a other hand, Pinsir can set up a SD against Chansey, or a Landorus-T locked into EQ. He is also able to beat Conkeldurr. Be wary, Hippowdon and Raikou can beats the core.

Manaphy @ Wacan Berry
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 96 HP / 252 SpA / 160 Spe
Timid Nature
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Energy Ball

With Tail Glow and decent coverage, Manaphy is able to take on Pokemon that walls Mega Pinsir such as Skarmory, Slowbro and Hippowdon. It can also lure in Thundurus, survive the Thunderbolt with Wacan Berry and OHKO back with Ice Beam (if Thundurus switches into Rocks or Manaphy has boosted). Manaphy is also able to soft-check Mamoswine, Talonflame and threaten Mega Diancie if Manaphy is at a high enough health. In return, Mega Pinsir can defeat Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur, Ferrothorn and Amoongus. EVs allow Manaphy to outspeed up to neutral natured base 100s including Charizard, Mega Gardevoir, Jolly Excadrill, Mamoswine and unevolved Pinsir.

Yay so I updated the archive format to make it look more... aesthetically pleasing lol. Also a reminder to astroboy about your Diggersby reservation :D

Diggersby @ Life Orb
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fire Punch
- Return
- Earthquake
- Quick Attack

fire punch diggersby is a cool partner to m-pinsir for its ability to weaken opposing mons, such as rotom-wash, skarmory, landorus-therian, bulky garchomp, which are all huge annoyances for mega-pinsir. diggersby is also immune to electric, which mega-pinsir appreciates due to its weakness to it.
heres some cool calcs
252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 159-187 (47.6 - 55.9%) -- 22.7% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Skarmory: 205-244 (61.3 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Return vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-W: 192-227 (63.3 - 74.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
-1 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Return vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Landorus-T: 146-173 (38.2 - 45.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
-1 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Return vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Landorus-T: 199-234 (62.3 - 73.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 164+ Def Garchomp: 222-263 (52.8 - 62.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

-1 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Return vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Landorus-T: 199-234 (62.3 - 73.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Reserving Obvious SmogonBird

Talonflame @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost

Talonflame and Pinsir both have some similar counters, so they can wear down each other's counters so that the other one can sweep. Talonflame's fire typing is really nice to get rid of some steel types that give Pinsir trouble like Scizor, Metagross and Skarmory, and Pinsir's fighting coverage can really help eliminate threats like Heatran, Terrakion, and Tyranitar for Talonflame. The bulky physical walls that can take hits from both of these mons can get worn down by both mons because of their powerful STAB attack and ability to use SD. Talonflame can function as a secondary win condition after Pinsir dies and the opponent's counters to these mons are forced to stay healthy and pressured throughout the match because both Talonflame and Pinsir can sweep teams with the blink of an eye after their counters are gone.

Huh sorry for delay. This week's winners are Celticpride, Random Passerby, and FalseHopes.

This week we'll have something more defensive ... say hi to Hippowdon!

Week 6 - Hippowdon

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Stone Edge

Hippowdon is a great mixed wall, checking many prominent threats such as Mega Manectric, Talonflame, Thundurus, and Terrakion. It has access to Slack Off which is a great form of recovery, and provides good support with Sand Stream to further Excadrill's Speed or chip away at opponents. Furthermore, it has good utility and support options, such as Stealth Rock and Whirlwind. However, it is also checked by many Pokemon, such as Keldeo and Weavile, due to its weakness to common attacking types. It is also painfully slow.

Discuss!

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 96 SpD / 28 Spe
Impish Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Roost
- Return
- Earthquake / Heal Bell

Fattest Dragon I could think of. Altaria offers several helpful resistances to Hippo, and handles most Water and Grass attackers in the tier well. Hell Bell support can also be helpful as Hippowdon can be prone to picking up status. Hippo helps Altaria by checking Excadrill and Gengar, among the small pool of things that can handle Altaria. Hippo also checks BirdSpam well, which Altaria doesn't like to deal with either.

Obviously this is only part of a defensive core, support to take on Fairies and Ice types is helpful.

Relinquishing Slowking, doing Latias instead.

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost

Latias can easily come in against Rotom-W, Celebi, Keldeo, Mega Venusaur ,Manaphy (lacking Ice Beam), Mega Charizard-Y (lacking Dragon Pulse) and with prediction, Landorus-I. It can then threaten them out with a powerful Draco Meteor or Psyshock while having the option of healing up with Roost. Defog allows Latias to remove Spikes and Stealth Rocks, which can wear down Hippowdon very fast. In return, Hippowdon has no problems coming in against Bisharp and Tyranitar which counters Latias. It also does well against Mixed Thundurus (without Grass Knot) which Latias has issues with.

Note: This stacks an Ice-weakness and a huge Azumarill weakness so a way to handle it should be prioritized.

Mega Garchomp is mine.

Garchomp @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock / Stone Edge

Oh hey, a Dragon that can make actual use of Hippowdon's Sand Stream! Anyway, Mega Garchomp is already insanely powerful with 170 / 120 offensive stats & amazing STAB moves. But when paired up with Hippowdon, all hell will break loose. Mega Garchomp has access to Sand Force, which boosts Rock, Ground, and Steel type moves by 30%, making him a destructive wallbreaker.

Slowking @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 204 SpA / 56 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Psychic
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Tail

Slowking is a great partner for Hippowdon since it takes on powerful water type attackers like Keldeo and Starmie while Hippo can switch into electric types more easily and take on things like Bisharp as well. Slowking can also take on Modest Landorus' Earth Power, LO Latios' Draco Meteor, Mega Metagross' Grass Knot and even 2 Solar Beams from Timid Charizard Y if SR is not up. Slowking is also one of the few balance mons that can take on a +3 attack from Manaphy (even Energy Ball) and phaze it out with Dragon Tail. Although both are weak to grass types, Slowking actually does a number on offensive Mega Venusaur with Psychic while Giga Drain fails to 2HKO and does not always prevent Psychic from netting a 2HKO. Certain pokemon like Kyurem-Black, Serperior and Weavile are major threats to the core but it's not really possible to cover all of Hippo's weaknesses with only one partner.

I think the more standard spread has a Modest Nature but I opted for Calm just to take on Zard Y a little better. Also Psychic > Psyshock because it's just more powerful and it's not like SubCM Keldeo is taking Psychics even with a special defense boost or two.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 162-192 (41.2 - 48.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Not running Power Gem so it doesn't beat Zard Y. But if you can force it to Solar Beam, Hippowdon can come in. Hippo sets up Sand forcing it to take an extra turn and halves the power of Solar Beam so it can eat it up and OHKO in return with Stone Edge.

252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Landorus Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 133-157 (33.8 - 39.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Latios Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 146-173 (37.1 - 44%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

EZ

204 SpA Slowking Psychic vs. 232 HP / 4 SpD Mega Venusaur: 204-240 (56.8 - 66.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Mega Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 138-164 (35.1 - 41.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Because Slowking moves 2nd, Giga Drain only heals Venusaur once in between 2 Psychics so if Slowking nets 2 high rolls then Venusaur will go down even with a high roll on Giga Drain. Not a counter but actually an alright check if Venu is weakened.

+3 252+ SpA Manaphy Energy Ball vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 238-282 (60.5 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

EAT IT UP

skarm is a cool partner for hippo, as it can handle most grass types that trouble hippo while appreciating its ability to take on electrics. plus, they form a cool hazard-stacking core. skarm can also handle fairy types such as gardevoir or physical altaria cool cool
Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Whirlwind
- Iron Head
- Spikes
- Roost

Banned deucer.

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide / Return
- Swords Dance / Rapid Spin

Excadrill under sand is one of the scariest sweepers in the game, it has a solid 135 Attack and 88 Speed which makes it nearly impossible to outspeed, coupled with Swords Dance and a pretty spammable STAB in EQ. However, despite being a really scary sweeper, it doesn't bring any Defensive synergy to the core, leaving a huge weakness to Water types. Hippowdon also provides a way for Excadrill to switch safely out of bulky Landorus-T that can stop it.

Celebi@Leftovers
Natural Cure
Careful 252 HP / 220 SpD / 32 Spe
- Thunder Wave
- Leaf Storm / Giga Drain
- Aromatherapy / Healing Wish
- U-Turn

Biggest threat to Hippo is Scald and Toxic. Celebi switches into status moves no problem with Natural Cure. While in play, Thunder Wave slows down faster threats, Leaf Storm is a powerful way to hit bulky water types hard, and Aromatherapy or Healing Wish are used to give Hippo or another member of the team a second chance at life to continue wrecking havoc.

Chesnaught @ Salac Berry
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 12 HP / 244 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Seed Bomb
- Drain Punch
- Substitute
- Belly Drum

Bet you never expected to see this thing here. Here's how this works. Hippo lures in things that Chesnaught can setup on, like Rotom-W and Ferrothorn. Hippo also beats things like Talonflame and Thundurus to allow Chesnaught to pull off a sweep easier. Also, as with all sweepers, Stealth Rock support is beautiful. By the way, Kyu-B is evil. Pure evil.

Useful to know calc:
+6 244 Atk Chesnaught Seed Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 272-321 (90.9 - 107.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

bludz, Celticpride, fleggumfl has won this week! Also congratulations to Celticpride for going in the hall of fame :D

Week 7 - Utility Mega Sableye

Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Careful Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Knock Off
- Foul Play
- Recover

Despite the decline in stall and increase in checks such as Gliscor, Talonflame, and Clefable, Mega Sableye still remains as a top-notch defensive and utility Pokemon, capable of fulfilling many roles such as stallbreaking, hazard control, status absorb, and a roadblock to Taunt and defensive Pokemon. It checks a large amount of Pokemon with this set, such as Reuniclus, Gengar, and Alakazam, and is quite hard to wear down because of its access to reliable recovery and Will-O-Wisp to cripple physical attackers.

Discuss!
