[OVERVIEW]

Tangela's high physical bulk, access to Eviolite, and relatively high Special Attack allow it to check various physical threats in NU. Tangela isn't forced to run a recovery move, as it has access to Regenerator, which allows it to recover HP every time it switches out, making it a decent pivot and durable if running an offensive set. Even though Tangela has access to recovery, it struggles against status ailments such as poison, which puts a timer on it, limiting Tangela's switch-ins, especially against teams that carries Toxic Spikes. Tangela faces strong competition from Vileplume, which, thanks to Poison typing, is immune to Toxic and able to absorb Toxic Spikes as well as take Fighting-type moves better. However, Tangela isn't totally outclassed, as it provides good niches in its resistance to Ground-type moves, higher physical bulk, and Regenerator. Tangela's poor typing along with its mediocre Special Defense leave it weak to common special attackers that carry Fire-, Ice-, and Flying-type coverage. Tangela relies on Eviolite to be bulky, so it struggles against Knock Off users such as Sawk and Hariyama. Additionally, Tangela's shallow movepool allows Fire-types such as Magmortar to switch in on it easily.

Moves
========

Leaf Storm is Tangela's main and most powerful STAB move, heavily damaging any Pokemon that doesn't resist it, but it comes at the cost of halving Tangela's Special Attack, which can potentially make Tangela setup fodder for Pokemon such as Lilligant and Uxie. Giga Drain is Tangela's secondary, consistent STAB move and main source of recovery outside of Regenerator. Ancient Power lets Tangela hit Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types such as Magmortar, Scyther, Fletchinder, and especially Xatu, which is a very common counter to Tangela. However, most of them will still win a 1v1 situation if carrying an Assault Vest or if they are not caught on the switch. Sleep Powder lets Tangela put foes that otherwise counter it to sleep, especially physical threats and setup sweepers which could threaten the team. Hidden Power Fire is used to hit Grass- and Steel-types such as Lilligant, Klinklang, Magneton, and Ferroseed super effectively.

Set Details
========

224 Special Attack EVs with a Modest nature are used to make full use of Tangela's high Special Attack, increasing its damage output. 236 HP EVs along with 48 EVs in Defense make Tangela bulkier and allow it to tank a few physical hits, even strong ones such as Kabutops's Stone Edge, letting it avoid the 2HKO after Stealth Rock. Eviolite further increases Tangela's bulk and makes up a bit for its terrible Special Defense. Regenerator strengthens Tangela's role as a durable pivot, even with an offensive set.

Usage Tips
========

Tangela plays the role of a bulky special attacker on offensive teams thanks to its good mix of offensive and defensive stats. It can be switched in on physical attackers such as Carracosta and Rhydon, tank the attack, and then attack them or the swtich-in and pivot out the next turn. Be wary when switching into special attackers, as Tangela's Special Defense is mediocre even with an Eviolite boost. Sleep Powder can to be used when checking troublesome physical attackers such as Kangaskhan and setup sweepers such as Mawile to prevent them from causing too much trouble, or on predicted opposing switch-ins. Leaf Storm has to be used carefully when the opponent is carrying a setup sweeper, as it drastically drops Tangela's Special Attack and makes it setup fodder for a lot of threats such as Lilligant and Uxie. Giga Drain should be spammed when Tangela has the opportunity, as it deals good damage against Pokemon that don't resist it and recovers Tangela's HP, bolstering Tangela's longevity along with Regenerator.

Team Options
========

Offensive Tangela fits better on bulky offensive and balanced teams as a bulky pivot because Tangela can both tank hits and hit back hard. Boosting sweepers such as Rhydon and Mawile can make use of Sleep Powder support and pivoting by Tangela to gain more opportunities to set up. Hariyama is a good partner thanks to Thick Fat, which makes it successfully check the Fire- and Ice-types that trouble Tangela, such as Pyroar and Sneasel. Lanturn is a great partner for Tangela thanks to its typing synergy, as it is able to tank Fire- and Ice-type moves with ease. Ground-types such as Rhydon have great type synergy with Tangela, as they deal with Fire- and Poison-types for Tangela while Tangela handles physical Water-types such as Kabutops for them. Rock- and Fire-types such as Carracosta and Magmortar can also check Flying-, Fire-, Bug-, and Ice-types while while Tangela can take Ground- and Water-type moves for them.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Giga Drain is Tangela's main STAB move and provides reliable damage and extra recovery. Hidden Power Fire is used to hit Pokemon such as Ferroseed, Mawile, and Cacturne, which resist Giga Drain. Sleep Powder gives Tangela some utility, letting it put troublesome threats to sleep and get free turns to gain momentum or KOs. Toxic is mainly used to cripple common switch-ins such as Bouffalant and Magmortar. Leech Seed is Tangela's main choice for recovery, as it not only heals Tangela over time but also damages foes, making it useful in sticky situations. Synthesis is Tangela's only source of instant recovery along with Regenerator and lets it switch with more freedom on attacks.

Set Details
========

252 EVs in HP along with maximum Defense investment and a Bold nature are needed to maximize and make use of Tangela's physical bulk. Eviolite allows Tangela to be a good physical wall and also makes up a bit for its low Special Defense, putting it one step ahead of other bulky Grass-types such as Vileplume. Regenerator is what makes Tangela a good pivot, as it gives Tangela extra recovery, allowing it to switch in on foes constantly without getting worn down.

Usage Tips
========

Tangela is a physical wall and a bulky pivot, so it has to be brought in on physical attackers such as Kangaskhan and then use Sleep Powder or Toxic to cripple them or directly attack them. Giga Drain is the preferred move to use early-game to pull off reliable damage while recovering HP, while Toxic and Sleep Powder should also be used early on to cripple foes. Before switching in on a physical attacker, Tangela has to be careful about Knock Off users such as Hariyama, as they can remove its Eviolite, making it a lot easier to take down. Tangela has to be wary against special attackers such as Lilligant and Mismagius, as its Special Defense is mediocre even with Eviolite. Tangela must also take care against Sap Sipper users such as Bouffalant, as they can absorb its Grass-type moves.

Team Options
========

Tangela fits best on bulky offense and balance teams thanks to its ability to tank physical hits with ease and either retaliate or support its teammates. Tangela struggles against residual damage from status ailments and entry hazards, so Defog and Rapid Spin users and clerics are good teammates to remove entry hazards and status afflictions. Poison-types such as Garbodor are also appreciated, as they can both absorb Toxic Spikes, which trouble Tangela, and set up their own entry hazards to support Tangela and its teammates in getting KOs and wearing down foes, while Tangela also helps them by checking Ground-types such as Rhydon. Ground- and Rock-types such as Kabutops, Rhydon, and Carracosta have a good type synergy with Tangela, beating Fire-, Poison-, Bug-, and Flying-types while Tangela is able to check Ground- and Fighting-types for them.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Knock Off is useful to surprise bulky Pokemon that rely on Eviolite such as Gurdurr and Ferroseed, but its damage output is negligible. Infestation is a good option on the defensive set to trap troublesome threats and weaken them. Stun Spore can be useful to cripple fast offensive Pokemon such as Pyroar and Magmortar, which usually find themselves switching into Tangela easily.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-types can tank Tangela's Giga Drain and Leaf Storm without too much trouble and can OHKO it with their STAB moves. Magmortar is a hard counter to Tangela because of its high Special Defense and access to Vital Spirit, which prevents Magmortar from being put to sleep. They still don't appreciate getting hit by Ancient Power or Toxic, though, as those moves will quickly remove a large part of their health.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types such as Garbodor, Haunter, and Roselia threaten Tangela, as they take little damage from Tangela's attacks and can either set up Spikes or Toxic Spikes or directly take down Tangela with their STAB moves.

**Ice-types**: Specially defensive Ice-types such as Cryogonal and Regice take next to no damage from Tangela's attacks bar Ancient Power and can set up on Tangela or KO it outright.

**Knock Off Users**: Knock Off users such as Hariyama and Pawniard don't really appreciate getting put to sleep or hit by a STAB move from Tangela, but they can still remove Tangela's Eviolite, making it much more vulnerable to attacking moves.

**Pokemon with Sap Sipper**: Thanks to Sap Sipper, Pokemon such as Bouffalant and Zebstrika can absorb Tangela's Grass-type moves and use it as a setup fodder or force it to switch.

**Bulky Setup Sweepers**: Lilligant resists Tangela's main STAB moves, is immune to Sleep Powder, and can make use of Tangela's Special Attack drops from Leaf Storm to set up Quiver Dance, though it doesn't appreciate getting hit by Toxic. Uxie and Musharna both have high Special Defense, so they can use Tangela as a setup fodder, but they do not like getting hit with Toxic or Sleep Powder. Musharna can also recover the damage and if it gets hit with Toxic, Tangela will also get crippled because of Synchronize.

**Xatu**: Xatu has enough Special Defense to safely switch in on Tangela's attacks and it is able to recover any damage taken and bounce back Tangela's status moves with Magic Bounce. Alternatively, Xatu can cripple Tangela with its own Toxic or attack Tangela with Heat Wave.

I'm not sure why only offensive Tangela is only shown, as the defensive one is more common and viable but these are a few things I'd change

1. Seeing as this is for NU, make sure to mention Magmortar as a hard counter, as it is immune to sleep with vital spirit and resists all of tangelas attacks (apart from the nearly-nonexistent ancient power set)
2. Lanturn is also a great partner for tangela as it resists fire/ice and tangela takes care of its ground weakness and both of them are good pivots with regen on tangela and VS on Lanturn.

Here is the defensive set i use btw and i persoanly think its a lot more viable as it can stop Klingklang, Kangaskhan , and boatload of other threats before and after eviolite is knocked off. Banded Close combat sawk cant even 2 hit ko it with eviolite.

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Giga Drain
- Sleep Powder

I'll probably come back and mention more stuff later, but this is what i think needs to be addressed right off the bat. Good job overall though ;)

Yeah I have no issue with defensive tangela getting a set but I just want to point this...

Tangela needs stealth rock off the field to avoid the 2HKO from Sawks CC, not sure if you calced wrong: 252+ Atk Choice Band Sawk Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 136-162 (40.8 - 48.6%) -- 71.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
  • Sleep Powder lets Tangela put foes to sleep, especially physical threats and setup sweepers, which could threaten the team-
This looks a little unfinished.

Also note that ancientpower hits xatu, a really important target since it resists stab and bounces back sleep powder. Archeops should not be listed as a target since it takes a lot from leaf storm: 252+ SpA Tangela Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Archeops: 276-325 (94.8 - 111.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
yeah. ow.

Add some more of its flaws to the overview, such as that it is extremely susceptible to toxic and toxic spikes and faces major competition from vileplume. Fire types practically running the tier atm make life for tangela a nightmare, that needs to be mentioned.
  • Hariyama is a good partner thanks to its ability, Thick Fat, which makes it successfully check Fire- and Ice-types that trouble Tangela, such as Typhlosion, Pyroar, and Sneasel.
Add here that while yama is a good teammate it stacks a flying weakness which stinks.
  • Rock- and Fire-types such as Carracosta and Mega Camerupt can also provide a check to Flying-, Fire-, Bug- and Ice-types Pokemon to Tangela, while still being covered from Ground- and Water-types coverage.
Regular camerupt is pretty awful, but it's either getting banned or leaving the tier via usage so not the biggest issue.

Stun Spore is pretty decent option that needs to be mentioned at least somewhere, it donks offensive switches that resist Grass and can switch into STAB, like Magmortar, Typh, etc. even after Sleep is absorbed, and sometimes slowing one of those frail mons down basically means death. It struggles to find a moveslot for it, which is a problem, but it's at least other options or moves worthy.

Alright, back for a full check here; this looks good overall.
Firstly, remove all Typhlosion and Mega Camerupt mentions.
  • Tangela can see usage on any playstyle thanks to its great movepool and a good mix of defensive and attacking stats, though it is still rarely seen because of the high usage of Fire-types such as Mega Camerupt and Typhlosion, which easily check Tangela.
Change this to various playstyles since I would never use Tangela on a hyper offense team (unlike in PU where Roselia is supposedly good on hyper offense).
  • Faces competition from Vileplume, which thanks to Poison-type is immune to Toxic status and able to absorb Toxic Spikes, though Tangela isn't totally outclassed, as Vileplume's double typing leaves it weak to Psychic-types such as Malamar, which along with weaker physical bulk makes it also weaker to Ground-types such as Rhydon and Torterra.
Malamar rarely uses a Psychic-type move, and its not a very good example to use when comparing Tangela to Vileplume because Malamar sets up to +6 on both of them anyways. The main reasons it'd be used over plume are ground resistance, higher physical bulk, and a more useful ability.
  • Being sort of item dependant, makes it struggle against Knock Off users.
I'm not going to argue that Tangela is completely item dependent, but saying "sort of item dependent" is an understatement. Tangela relies quite a bit on its Eviolite, reword as such.
Add in the overview a point about how its movepool is pretty bad.
  • Leaf Storm is Tangela's main and most powerful STAB, used to hit for large damage most of the Pokemon that don't resist Grass-type coverage, especially Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types such as Carracosta, Seismitoad, and Rhydon, but halving its special attack, it also makes Tangela setup fodder for Pokemon such as Lilligant and Uxie.
You dont need to list what pokemon Leaf Storm hits because rock / water / ground types arent staying in on Tangela, just leave it to something along the lines of how its a strong stab move that hits hard on anything that doesnt resist it, but the drops leave it as setup fodder for x and y.
  • Ancient Power is an useful coverage as it lets Tangela hit Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types such as Typhlosion, Sneasel, Scyther, and especially Xatu, though most of them will still win a 1v1 if not caught on the switch. Ancient Power also has a chance to boost every stat of Tangela, which is appreciated.
Remove typh as a target for obvious reasons and remove Sneasel as well because Ancientpower is something you'd hit them on the switch with like you said, and Sneasel takes massive damage from Leaf Storm anyways.
252+ SpA Tangela Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasel: 246-289 (98 - 115.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Tangela Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Sneasel: 163-193 (64.9 - 76.8%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
The most important target of Ancientpower is Xatu, and after that comes Magmortar since they both resist Tangela's STAB moves and are immune to Sleep Powder. Scyther is fine to list as well. However, in the writeup or now be sure to include that Ancientpower is really just filler since Tangela's movepool is garbage and it doesnt even do that much to Xatu anyways:
252+ SpA Tangela Ancient Power vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Xatu: 160-190 (47.9 - 56.8%)
It can either CM in front of Tangela, or roost predicting another Ancientpower and it still has the upper hand provided its at full HP.
Note that Ancientpower only targets non-assault vest Magmortar since it does pitiful damage to AV Magmortar:
252+ SpA Tangela Ancient Power vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Magmortar: 84-100 (26.4 - 31.5%)

If you're going to have one set listed with 248 HP and one listed with 252 HP, just keep things consistent. Going from 252 HP EVs to 248 HP EVs doesnt minimize Stealth Rock damage so it doesnt really matter.

Slash Leech Seed before Synthesis (idk if it even deserves a slash but w/e) because it already has enough passive recovery from giga drain and regenerator.
When you talk about knock off in oo, just say its specifically just for the utility of removing items since its pretty weak and ghost types take a ton from leaf storm / giga drain.
Remove specs from oo, offensive Tangela already hits hard enough.

Most of this was nitpicks and changing a few wording examples, so after you implement the above you're good to go.

Few things with tier shifts:

Add fletchinder as an ancientpower target; while it doesnt like getting put to sleep it can easily switch into grass moves (obviously) and offensive tangela can chew an unboosted acrobatics if need be and has a slight chance to live a +2 acro from full without rocks.

Add Magneton as a HP Fire target.

Change the EV spread on offensive tangela to this: 236 HP / 48 Def / 224 SpA, this spread combines bulk and power, most notably surviving some extremely powerful nuetral attacks, the strongest one this spread lives is +2 Adamant Life Orb Kabutops's Stone Edge (which is hard to switch into unresisted) .
Calcs:
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Kabutops Stone Edge vs. 236 HP / 48 Def Eviolite Tangela: 242-286 (73.3 - 86.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Kabutops Stone Edge vs. 236 HP / 44 Def Eviolite Tangela: 243-289 (73.6 - 87.5%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Blastral made this spread a while back, I'm just relaying the info.
Update the format as well please.
Lets try and get this finished up and on site asap, since we currently have nothing up for Tangela. Tagging resident tangela fan Deej Dy to give this the second check :P

[OVERVIEW]
  • Tangela can see usage on various playstyles thanks to its great movepool and a good mix of defensive and attacking stats, though it is uncommon due to the ease that Fire-types, such as Magmortar, can switch in on it and also for its shallow movepool.
  • High physical bulk along with Eviolite and a relatively high special attack allow Tangela to check strong physical threats such as Kangaskhan and Carracosta, while carrying good damage output.
  • Tangela isn't forced to run a recovery move, as it has access to Regenerator, which allows it to recover every time it switches out, also making it a decent pivot and durable if running an offensive set.
  • Even though Tangela has easy access to recovery, it struggles against statuses such as Toxic, whichputs a timer on it, limiting Tangela's switch-ins, especially against teams with Toxic Spikes, as it is extremely susceptible to them.
  • Tangela faces strong competition from Vileplume, which thanks to Poison-type, is immune to Toxic status and able to absorb Toxic Spikes as well as Fighting Type moves better. However, Tangela isn't totally outclassed, as it provides good niches in its resistance to Ground-type, higher physical bulk overall, and its great ability.
  • Poor typing along with mediocre special defense, leave Tangela weak to common special attackers with types such as Fire, Ice, and Flying.
  • Tangela relies strongly on Eviolite to be bulky and continuously tank hits, which can cause it to struggle against Knock Off users.

Moves
========

  • Leaf Storm is Tangela's main and most powerful STAB, used to hit for large damage most of the Pokemon that don't resist Grass-type coverage, but at the cost of halving its special attack, which can potentially make Tangela setup fodder for Pokemon such as Lilligant and Uxie.
  • Giga Drain is Tangela's secondary STAB and main source of recovery outside of Regenerator and can also be used to provide a consistently strong STAB compared to Leaf Storm, which sharply drops its special attack.
  • Ancient Power is an useful coverage as it lets Tangela hit Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types such as Magmortar, Scyther, Fletchinder, and especially Xatu a very common counter. However, most of them will still win a 1v1 situation if carrying something such as Assault Vest or if they are not caught on the switch. Ancient Power also has a small chance to boost every stat of Tangela, which is appreciated.
  • Sleep Powder lets Tangela put foes that otherwise counter it to sleep, especially physical threats and setup sweepers, which could threaten the team.
  • Hidden Power Fire is purely used for coverage purposes, to effectively hit Grass- and Steel-types such as Lilligant, Klinklang, Magneton, and Ferroseed.

Set Details
========

  • 224 EVs into Special Attack with a Modest nature are used to make full use of Tangela's high Special Attack, increasing its damage output.
  • 236 HP EVs along with 48 make Tangela bulkier and allow it to tank a few physical hits, even strong ones such as +2 Adamant Life Orb Kabutops's Stone Edge.
  • Eviolite further increases Tangela's defenses and makes up a bit for its terrible Special Defense.
  • Regenerator strengthens Tangelas role as a durable and a decent pivot, even with an offensive set.

Usage Tips
========

  • Tangela plays the role of bulky special attacker on offensive teams thanks to its good mix of offensive and defensive stats, it therefore can be switched it in on physical attackers such as Carracosta and Rhydon, tank the attack, then to attack them or a swtich-in with its high Special Attack and pivot out the next turn.
  • Be wary when switching into special attackers, as Tangela's Special Defense is mediocre even with an Eviolite boost.
  • Sleep Powder can to be used when checking troublesome physical attackers such as Kangaskhan and setup sweepers such as Mawile to prevent them from causing too much problems, or with prediction on opposing switch ins to more favorable matchup.
  • Leaf Storm has to be used carefully in rare cases like if you necessarily need more damage output, as it drastically drops Tangela's Special Attack therefore makes it setup fodder for a lot of threats such as Lilligant and Uxie.
  • Giga Drain instead should be spammed when having the opportunity, as it deals good damage against Pokemon that don't resist it and recovers Tangela up a bit from damage, making it durable along with Regenerator.

Team Options
========
  • Offensive Tangela fits better on bulky offensive and balanced teams, as a bulky pivot, because Tangela can both tank hits and answer back hard, therefore able to support well these type of playstyles, as it also carries utility moves such as Sleep Powder.
  • Boosting sweepers such as Rhydon and Mawile can make use of Sleep Powder support and pivoting by Tangela, to gain more opportunities to set up.
  • Hariyama is a good partner thanks to its ability, Thick Fat, which makes it successfully check Fire- and Ice-types that trouble Tangela, such as Pyroar and Sneasel, but also stacks a weakness to Flying-types such as Scyther and Swellow, which is underwhelming.
  • Lanturn is a great partner for Tangela thanks to its typing synergy, as it is able to tank Fire- and Ice-type moves with ease.
  • Ground-types such as Rhydon have a great type synergy with Tangela, as they deal with Fire- and Poison-types for Tangela, that in exchange handles physical Water-types such as Kabutops and for them.
  • Rock- and Fire-types such as Carracosta and Magmortar can also provide a check to Flying-, Fire-, Bug- and Ice-types Pokemon to Tangela, while still being covered from Ground- and Water-types coverage.

Moves
========

  • Giga Drain is Tangela's main STAB move and provides reliable damage and extra recovery.
  • Hidden Power Fire is used for coverage purposes, to hit Pokemon such as Ferroseed, Mawile, and Cacturne, that resist Giga Drain.
  • Sleep Powder gives Tangela some utility, letting it put to sleep troublesome threats and get free turns, to gain momentum or KOs.
  • Toxic is also a good utility option, mainly used to cripple common switch-ins such as Bouffalant and Magmortar.
  • Leech Seed is Tangela's main choice for a recovery, it recovers from damage over time, but also damages foes, making it useful in sticky situations.
  • Synthesis is Tangela's only source of instant recovery along with Regenerator, and lets it switch with more freedom, making it more durable.

Set Details
========

  • 252 EVs in HP along with maximum Defense investment and a Bold nature are needed to maximize and make use of Tangela's physical bulk, also making it more durable throughout a game.
  • 4 EVs in Special Attack are used to not let Tangela fade out and still have some extra damage output.
  • Eviolite allows Tangela to be a good physical wall, further increasing its defensive stats, also making up a bit for its Special Defense and putting it one step ahead of other bulky Grass-types such as Vileplume.
  • Regenerator is what makes Tangela a good pivot too, as it gives it a large extra recovery, therefore allowing it to switch in on foes constantly without getting wore down.

Usage Tips
========

  • Tangela is a physical wall and a bulky pivot, so it has to be brought in preferably on physical attackers such as Kangaskhan and then use Sleep Powder or Toxic to cripple them, or directly attack.
  • Defensive Tangela is best used on bulky offensive and balanced teams, as it can both tank hits and answer hard with an attack or a status move such as Sleep Powder and Toxic.
  • Giga Drain is the preferred move to use early to pull off reliable damage while recovering HP, along with Toxic and Sleep Powder to cripple foes from the start.
  • Before switching in on a physical attacker, Tangela still has to be careful about Knock Off users such as Hariyama, as they can knock its Eviolite off, therefore making it a lot less bulkier and easy to take down.
  • Tangela has to be wary when against special attackers such as Lilligant and Mismagius, as its Special Defense is mediocre even with Eviolite, and Sap Sipper users such as Bouffalant, as they can absorb Grass-type coverage.

Team Options
========

  • Tangela fits best on bulky offensive and balanced teams, thanks to its ability to both tank physical hits with ease and answer back or cripple foes thanks to its access to utility moves such as Sleep Powder and Toxic, supporting teammates.
  • Tangela struggles against residual damage by status and entry hazards, so Defog and Rapid Spin users and Clerics are good teammates to remove entry hazards and statuses.
  • Because Tangela has problems mainly with Toxic Spikes, Poison-types such as Garbodor are also appreciated, as they can both absorb Toxic Spikes and set up their own entry hazards to support Tangela, which also grants a check to Ground-types such as Rhydon, and other teammates.
  • Ground- and Rock-types such as Kabutops, Rhydon and Carracosta, have a good type synergy with Tangela, beating Fire-, Poison-, Bug- and Flying-types, while Tangela is able to tank Ground-, Electric- and Grass-types for them.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Knock Off is only useful as an utility move, to pick off guard bulky Pokemon that rely on Eviolite such as Gurdurr and Ferroseed, as its damage is far from relevant.
  • Infestation is a good option on a defensive set to trap troublesome threats and weaken them.
  • Stun Spore is another utility move that can be useful to cripple fast offensive Pokemon such as Pyroar and Magmortar, that usually find themselves switching into Tangela easily.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Magmortar, which is a hard counter as it has good Special Defense and it can't get put on sleep thanks to Vital Spirit, can tank Tangela Giga Drain and Leaf Storm without too much trouble, and can answer back OHKOing it with their STAB moves. They still don't appreciate getting hit by Ancient Power or Toxic though, as they will quickly cut off a large part of their health.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types such as Garbodor, Haunter, and Roselia, threaten Tangela, as they take little damage from Tangela STAB moves and coverage, and can make use of that by setting up Spikes or Toxic Spikes, or directly take down Tangela with their STAB moves.

**Ice-types**: Ice-types such as Cryogonal and Regice take next to no damage from Tangela apart from Rock-type coverage in Ancient Power, which does decent damages, and can set up or answer back KOing it with their STAB moves.

**Knock Off**: Knock Off users such as Hariyama and Pawniard, don't really appreciate getting put in sleep or hit by a STAB move from Tangela, but they can still cripple it, knocking its Eviolite off, therefore making it a lot more frail to attacks, especially special ones.

**Sap Sipper users**: Thanks to Sap Sipper, Pokemon such as Bouffalant and Zebstrika can absorb Tangela STAB moves, and use it as a set up fodder or force its switch anyway, gaining momentum or hit hard the switch-in

TANGELA

Overview:
- Sneasel isn't the best Knock Off user to talk about cos I wouldn't keep Tangela in on it, maybe say Sawk or Hariyama

OFFENSIVE

Set Details:
- Mention explicitly that the spread lets it avoid the 2HKO after rocks

Usage Tips:
Leaf Storm has to be used carefully in rare cases like if you necessarily need more damage output, as it drastically drops Tangela's Special Attack therefore makes it setup fodder for a lot of threats such as Lilligant and Uxie
- this sounds like "you shouldn't use Leaf Storm unless you really need the power". Change this to something that clearly says that Leaf Storm shouldn't be used with setup sweepers alive

Team Options:
but also stacks a weakness to Flying-types such as Scyther and Swellow, which is underwhelming
- I don't think underwhelming is the right word here

DEFENSIVE:

Moves:
Synthesis is Tangela's only source of instant recovery along with Regenerator, and lets it switch with more freedom, making it more durable.
- Why does Synthesis let Tangela switch with more freedom?

Usage Tips:
Defensive Tangela is best used on bulky offensive and balanced teams, as it can both tank hits and answer hard with an attack or a status move such as Sleep Powder and Toxic.
- this one belongs in Team Options

Giga Drain is the preferred move to use early to pull off reliable damage while recovering HP, along with Toxic and Sleep Powder to cripple foes from the start
- This sentence is a bit unclear, I think you mean that Toxic and Sleep Powder should be spread first, while Giga can be used for reliable damage

Team Options:
Because Tangela has problems mainly with Toxic Spikes, Poison-types such as Garbodor are also appreciated, as they can both absorb Toxic Spikes and set up their own entry hazards to support Tangela, which also grants a check to Ground-types such as Rhydon, and other teammates
- why do entry hazards support Tangela well? list some instances of that
- "and other teammates" feels out of place, maybe I'm just misreading though

- I wouldn't say Tangela can tank Electric- or Grass-types since it can't switch into Magneton, Rotom, and Lilligant. You could say it can beat Ground-types and check Fighting-types

Checks and Counters:
- Bulky setup sweepers probably deserve a mention, this includes Lilligant, Uxie, and Musharna
- Xatu probably deserves a slot for itself since it hard counters Tangela

Raiza. here you go, it looks fine overall and most of the changes here are just wording

yeah i just wanted to make sure that the wording is good before i stamped. looks fine now though.

one thing: when mentioning uxie and musharna in c&c, you say they get crippled by knock off, which isn't on the sets, and they don't get hit that hard anyway. you can say that they can be beaten with sleep powder. also, mention that tangela getting poisoned is due to synchronize which may not be too obvious for a newer player

[OVERVIEW]

Tangela can see usage on various playstyles thanks to its high physical bulk along with Eviolite, and a relatively high special attack, which allow Tangela to check strong physical threats such as Kangaskhan and Carracosta, while carrying good damage output, though it is uncommon due to how easily Fire-types, such as Magmortar, can switch in on it and also for its shallow movepool. (Wow this is messy. Try: "Tangela's high physical bulk, access to Eviolite, and relatively high Special Attack allow it to check various physical threats in PU." The notes about Fire-types fucking it up and its poor movepool should come later.) Tangela isn't forced to run a recovery move, as it has access to Regenerator, which allows it to recover HP every time it switches out, also making it a decent pivot and durable if running an offensive set. Even though Tangela has access to a recovery, it struggles against statuses ailments such as Toxic poison, which puts a timer on it, limiting Tangela's switch-ins, especially against teams that carries Toxic Spikes, as Tangela is extremely susceptible to them. Tangela faces strong competition from Vileplume, which, (AC) thanks to Poison-type typing, is immune to Toxic status and able to absorb Toxic Spikes as well as take Fighting-type Type moves better. However, Tangela isn't totally outclassed, as it provides good niches in its resistance to Ground-type moves, higher physical bulk overall, and its ability Regenerator. Tangela's poor typing along with its mediocre Special Defense, (RC) leave it weak to common special attackers that carry Fire-, Ice-, and Flying-type coverage. Tangela relies on Eviolite to be bulky and continuously tank hits, which causes it to be underwhelming without it, and therefore so it struggle against Knock Off users such as Sawn Sawk and Hariyama. Additionally, Tangela's shallow movepool allows Fire-types such as Magmortar to switch in on it easily. (Does this work?)

Moves
========

Leaf Storm is Tangela's main and most powerful STAB move, used to hit for large damage most of the Pokemon that don't resist Grass-type coverage (this needs cleaning up. Try: "heavily damaging any Pokemon that doesn't resist it"), but it comes at the cost of halving its special attack Tangela's Special Attack, which can potentially make Tangela it setup fodder for Pokemon such as Lilligant and Uxie. Giga Drain is Tangela's secondary STAB move and main source of recovery outside of Regenerator and can also be used to provide a consistently strong STAB attack compared to Leaf Storm, which sharply drops its special attack. Ancient Power is an useful coverage as it lets Tangela hit Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types such as Magmortar, Scyther, Fletchinder, and especially Xatu, which is a very common counter to Tangela. However, most of them will still win a 1v1 situation if carrying something an item such as Assault Vest or if they are not caught on the switch. Ancient Power also has a small chance to boost every stat of Tangela, which is appreciated. (Don't bank on that 10% chance.) Sleep Powder lets Tangela put foes that otherwise counter it to sleep, especially physical threats and setup sweepers, which could threaten the team. Hidden Power Fire is purely used for coverage purposes, to effectively hit Grass- and Steel-types such as Lilligant, Klinklang, Magneton, and Ferroseed super effectively.

Set Details

224 EVs into Special Attack EVs with a Modest nature are used to make full use of Tangela's high Special Attack, increasing its damage output. 236 HP EVs along with 48 EVs in Defense make Tangela bulkier and allow it to tank a few physical hits, even strong ones such as +2 Adamant Life Orb Kabutops's Stone Edge, letting it avoid the 2HKO after Stealth Rock. Eviolite further increases Tangela's defenses bolk and makes up a bit for its terrible Special Defense. Regenerator strengthens Tangela'(apostrophe)s role as a durable and a decent pivot, even with an offensive set.

Usage Tips
========

Tangela plays the role of a bulky special attacker on offensive teams thanks to its good mix of offensive and defensive stats. Sleep Powder can to be used when checking troublesome physical attackers such as Kangaskhan and setup sweepers such as Mawile to prevent them from causing too much problems trouble, or with prediction on predicted opposing switch-(AH)ins to more favorable matchup. Leaf Storm has to be used carefully when the opponent is carrying a setup sweeper, as it drastically drops Tangela's Special Attack therefore and makes it setup fodder for a lot of threats such as Lilligant and Uxie. Giga Drain instead should be spammed when having Tangela has the opportunity, as it deals good damage against Pokemon that don't resist it and recovers Tangela's HP up a bit from damage, making it durable bolstering its longevity along with Regenerator.

252 EVs in HP along with maximum Defense investment and a Bold nature are needed to maximize and make use of Tangela's physical bulk, also making it more durable throughout a game. 4 EVs in Special Attack are used to not let Tangela fade out and still have some extra damage output. (They're 4 EVs dude. No big deal) Eviolite allows Tangela to be a good physical wall, further increasing its defensive stats, also making and also makes up a bit for its low Special Defense, (AC) and putting it one step ahead of other bulky Grass-types such as Vileplume. Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Magmortar, which is a hard counter as it has good Special Defense and it can't get put on sleep thanks to Vital Spirit, (this point should come later) can tank Tangela's Giga Drain and Leaf Storm without too much trouble, (RC) and can answer back OHKOing it with their STAB moves. Magmortar is a hard counter to Tangela because of its high Special Defense and access to Vital Spirit, which prevents Magmortar from being put to sleep. They still don't appreciate getting hit by Ancient Power or Toxic, (AC) though, as they those moves will quickly cut off remove a large part of their health.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types such as Garbodor, Haunter, and Roselia, (RC) threaten Tangela, as they take little damage from Tangela's attacks STAB moves and coverage, and can make use of that by either setting up Spikes or Toxic Spikes, (RC) or directly take taking down Tangela with their STAB moves.

**Ice-types**: Ice-types such as Cryogonal and Regice take next to no damage from Tangela's attacks bar apart from Rock-type coverage in Ancient Power, which does decent damages, and can set up on Tangela or answer back KOing it with their STAB moves KO it outright.

**Knock Off Users**: Knock Off users such as Hariyama and Pawniard, (RC) don't really appreciate getting put in to sleep or hit by a STAB move from Tangela, but they can still cripple it, knocking its Eviolite off, therefore making it a lot more frail to attacks, especially special ones remove Tangela's Eviolite, making it much more vulnerable to attacking moves (cleaned this up as best as I could).

**Pokemon with Sap Sipper users**: Thanks to Sap Sipper, Pokemon such as Bouffalant and Zebstrika can absorb Tangela's Grass-type STAB (don't forget Sleep Powder, which is not an attack) moves, (RC) and use it as a set(remove space)up fodder or force its switch anyway, gaining momentum or hit hard the switch-in to switch.

**Bulky Setup Sweepers**: Lilligant resists Tangela's main STAB moves, is immune to Sleep Powder, and can make use of Tangela's Special Attack drops due to from Leaf Storm, (RC) to set up a Quiver Dance, though it doesn't appreciate getting hit by Toxic. Uxie and Musharna both carry an have high Special Defense, therefore take few damage from any of Tangela's hits and so they can use it Tangela as a setup fodder, though they won't appreciate getting poisoned or slept but they do not like getting hit with Toxic or Sleep Powder. Musharna can also recover the damage and, (AC) if it gets poisoned by Tangela hit with Toxic, Tangela will also get crippled because of Synchronize.

**Xatu**: Xatu has enough Special Defense to safely switch in on Tangela's attacks without risking much, while and it is able to recover the any damage taken and bounce back Toxic, Leech Seed, and Sleep Powder to Tangela, thanks to its access to Magic Bounce, or Tangela's status moves with Magic Bounce. Alternatively, Xatu can just cripple Tangela by itself with its own Toxic or directly damage it attack Tangela with Heat Wave.

Giga Drain is Tangela's main STAB move and provides reliable damage and extra recovery. Hidden Power Fire is used for coverage purposes, to hit Pokemon such as Ferroseed, Mawile, and Cacturne, that which resist Giga Drain. Sleep Powder gives Tangela some utility, letting it put to sleep troublesome threats to sleep and get free turns, (RC) to gain momentum or KOs. Toxic is also a good utility option, mainly used to cripple common switch-ins such as Bouffalant and Magmortar. Leech Seed is Tangela's main choice for a recovery, as it recovers from damage not only heals Tangela over time, but also damages foes, making it useful in sticky situations. Synthesis is Tangela's only source of instant recovery along with Regenerator, (RC) and lets it switch with more freedom on attacks, as it allows Tangela to recover from damage, making it more durable.

Set Details
========

Regenerator is what makes Tangela a good pivot too, as it gives it a large Tangela extra recovery, therefore allowing it to switch in on foes constantly without getting wore worn down.

Usage Tips
========

Tangela is a physical wall and a bulky pivot, so it has to be brought in preferably on physical attackers such as Kangaskhan and then use Sleep Powder or Toxic to cripple them, or directly attack them. Defensive Giga Drain is the preferred move to use early-game to pull off reliable damage while recovering HP, while Toxic and Sleep Powder should also be used early on to cripple foes from the start. Before switching in on a physical attacker, Tangela still has to be careful about Knock Off users such as Hariyama, as they can knock remove its Eviolite off, therefore making it a lot less bulkier and easy easier to take down. Tangela has to be wary when against special attackers such as Lilligant and Mismagius, as its Special Defense is mediocre even with Eviolite.(period), (RC) and Tangela must also take care against Sap Sipper users such as Bouffalant, as they can absorb its Grass-type coverage moves.

Team Options
========

Tangela fits best on bulky offensive offense and balanced teams, (RC) thanks to its ability to both tank physical hits with ease and answer back or cripple foes thanks to its access to utility moves such as Sleep Powder and Toxic, either retaliate or supporting its teammates. Tangela struggles against residual damage by from status ailments and entry hazards, so Defog and Rapid Spin users and Clerics clerics are good teammates to remove entry hazards and statuses afflictions. Ground- and Rock-types such as Kabutops, Rhydon and Carracosta, (RC) have a good type synergy with Tangela, beating Fire-, Poison-, Bug-, (AC) and Flying-types, while Tangela is able to check Ground-, (RC) and Fighting-types for them.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Knock Off is only useful as an utility move, (RC) to pick off guard surprise bulky Pokemon that rely on Eviolite such as Gurdurr and Ferroseed, as but its damage output is far from relevant negligible. Infestation is a good option on a the defensive set to trap troublesome threats and weaken them. Stun Spore is another utility move that can be useful to cripple fast offensive Pokemon such as Pyroar and Magmortar, that which usually find themselves switching into Tangela easily.

Checks and Counters
===================

Even though Tangela has access to recovery, it struggles against status ailments such as poison, which puts a timer on it, limiting Tangela's switch-ins, especially against teams that carries Toxic Spikes, as Tangela is extremely susceptible to them. Tangela relies on Eviolite to be bulky and continuously tank hits, which causes it to be underwhelming without it, so it struggles against Knock Off users such as Sawk and Hariyama. Additionally, Tangela's shallow movepool allows Fire-types such as Magmortar to switch in on it easily.

Leaf Storm is Tangela's main and most powerful STAB move, heavily damaging any Pokemon that doesn't resist it, but it comes at the cost of halving Tangela's Special Attack, which can potentially make it Tangela setup fodder for Pokemon such as Lilligant and Uxie. Giga Drain is Tangela's secondary, (AC) consistent STAB move and main source of recovery outside of Regenerator and can also be used to provide a consistently strong STAB attack compared to Leaf Storm. Ancient Power lets Tangela hit Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types such as Magmortar, Scyther, Fletchinder, and especially Xatu, which is a very common counter to Tangela. However, most of them will still win a 1v1 situation if carrying an item such as Assault Vest or if they are not caught on the switch. Sleep Powder lets Tangela put foes that otherwise counter it to sleep, especially physical threats and setup sweepers, (RC) which could threaten the team. Hidden Power Fire is used to hit Grass- and Steel-types such as Lilligant, Klinklang, Magneton, and Ferroseed super effectively.

Regenerator strengthens Tangela'(apostrophe)s just remove extra text role as a durable pivot, even with an offensive set.

Usage Tips
========

Giga Drain should be spammed when Tangela has the opportunity, as it deals good damage against Pokemon that don't resist it and recovers Tangela's HP, (AC) bolstering its Tangela's longevity along with Regenerator.

Ground-types such as Rhydon have great type synergy with Tangela, as they deal with Fire- and Poison-types for Tangela, (RC) while Tangela handles physical Water-types such as Kabutops for them.
