"Ugh, I've been on this lousy ship for almost five hours now. When are we-"
Your boat comes to a stop. You've finally arrived at your destination. You step out of the slightly dilapidated ship, pay the captain your fare with a half-mumbled thank you, and walk towards the end of the dock. You've heard of a Gym here, and you need to get closer to that Victini, so here you are, wearing 4 layers of clothing and still cold. There's snow all around covering the ground, but there seems to be a path that leads off somewhere into the distance. You look at the captain and confusedly point to it, and the captain slowly nods his head. You shrug and begin down the path.

Approximately a half-mile down the road, you spot a figure, but you swear it has to be an illusion. It looks like a young man walking towards you, but that can't be. Wearing just a sweatshirt over a t-shirt and a pair of jeans in the middle of the Arctic Circle? That's crazy! However, as you approach him, you see that he is in fact real, and it looks like he's actually out for a stroll with a Weavile, obviously his partner.

The strange man looks at you and speaks, in a loud and clear voice, "Hey there! I don't exactly get many people here, and this isn't exactly what you'd call a scenic sight, so I'm guessing you're here for the Gym?" You start to answer, but he cuts you off, saying "No need to answer that. Even my own mother wouldn't pay me a visit out here if she wasn't gonna battle me. Name's waterwarrior by the way. Yes, yes, I know that it's kinda funny that that's my name and I'm the Ice Gym leader, but once you heard how I got that name... nah, you probably don't care in the slightest. Another time maybe. Well, better make this battle worth it then, amiright?"

After walking for about five minutes and chatting with the leader, you come across a small patch of land with a white fence around it. The leader stops and takes a deep breath, but you almost keep going, almost not seeing the arena at all. The gym leader steps over the little fence and walks over to the other side of the field. You look at the field and see the regulation field- two semi-circles in the areas where the trainers stand and a Poké Ball in the middle of the field. Both of you get ready, and waterwarrior raises his hand to the sky and cries out "All right! Let's break the ice!"

Suddenly, a flurry of hail descends on the battlefield. You know this battle won't be easy, but there's no backing out now!
  • Natural weather is Hail with permanent duration. If Rain is summoned, the weather becomes Sleet for the duration of Rain. Sleet has both the combined effects of Hail and Rain. If Sun or Sandstorm is summoned without the respective weather stone, the weather becomes clear for 2 rounds before reverting back to Hail. Sun and Sandstorm overwrite Hail and lasts 3 rounds if summoned with the respective weather stone before reverting back to Hail.
  • Obviously waterwarrior has to eat while up here, and he's willing to share his snacks with both you and your Pokemon. Both players may select a berry from a gym-provided list to give to their Pokemon in addition to a normal held item. (Cheri, Chesto, Pecha, Rawst, Leppa, Lum, Oran, Persim, Figy, Wiki, Mago, Aguav, Iapapa, Sitrus, Razz, Occa, Chople, Charti, Babiri) One berry may be chosen per Pokemon. No Pokemon can be holding two berries in this way. Knock Off removes both the normal held item and the berry from the target. If a Trick user is holding an Expert Belt/Cheri Berry and the target is holding a Life Orb/Occa Berry, the trick user may exchange both items for both items, the Expert Belt for the Life Orb, or the Cheri Berry for the Occa Berry, but NOT the Expert Belt for the Occa Berry or the Cheri Berry for the Life Orb
  • The extreme cold makes it hard for Pokemon to play pretend with their abilities (even Ice types), so the move Skill Swap has no effect and Role Play only lasts for 3 actions.
  • There is no external grass, but there is a small pool of water and a pile of rocks in the arena, so moves requiring external water/rocks can be used.
  • Nature Power calls Ice Beam, Camouflage grants Ice typing, Secret Power may Freeze.

Team Ragnarokalex:

*Thanks to SimonSays for the sprite*
Lucario (Aerza) Female
Nature:
Brave
Type:
Fighting: STAB; ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.
Steel:
STAB; immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible to Poison-type attacks and Poison/Toxic Status.

Abilities:
Steadfast:
Type: Passive
If this Pokemon is flinched, it becomes aware of the speed difference and increases speed by one (1) stage to make up the difference. This speed boost is maintained at the end of each round.
Inner Focus:
Type: Passive
When an opponent attempts to flinch this Pokemon, it stands firm and continues its attack. If it has another ability that would be activated by flinching, that ability activates.
Justified (DW):
Type: Passive
This Pokemon's body reacts to dark energy, invigorating its passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, the Pokémon's attack will increase one (1) stage. A boost gained this way will be maintained at the end of each round.

*Conkeldurr (Vilgot) Male*
Nature:
Adamant
Type:
Fighting: STAB; ignore weight restrictions of Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.

Abilities:
Guts:
Type: Passive
This Pokemon is tenacious and will work ever harder when under a status condition, raising the Base Attack Power of all its physical attacks by two (2). Pokemon with Guts ignore the attack drop from burn.
Sheer Force:
Type: Passive
No default effect. When toggled, this Pokemon can energize all its attacks with a secondary effect (These are damaging moves that either lower the target's stats, raise the user's stats, or inflict a status condition on the target). The Base Attack Power of every move with a secondary effect increases by two (2), but they will never have their usual secondary effect.
Iron Fist:
Type: Passive
The Base Attack Power of this Pokemon's "Punch" attacks is increased by two (2). (Known attacks affected: Bullet Punch, Comet Punch, Dizzy Punch, Drain Punch, Dynamic Punch, Fire Punch, Focus Punch, Hammer Arm, Ice Punch, Mach Punch, Mega Punch, Meteor Mash, Shadow Punch, Sky Uppercut, Thunder Punch, Power-Up Punch)

*Stratagem (Ansrasel) Male*
Nature:
Modest
Type:
Rock: STAB; Adds an additional level of Priority (+0 to +1, +3 to +4 etc.) on naturally occurring level-up, egg, tutor, or TM attacks that increase only defense, special defense, or prevent damage (Full list: Acid Armor, Amnesia, Barrier, Defense Curl, Detect, Quick Guard, Harden, Iron Defense, Light Screen, Protect, Reflect, Skull Bash, Stockpile, Wide Guard, Withdraw). Reduced damage from all special attacks by two (2) Base Attack Power during Sandstorm, immune to Sandstorm damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.

Abilities:
Levitate:
Type: Passive
This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss. Ground moves can still hit.
Technician:
Type: Passive
This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their one-hit or two-hit attacks that normally have 6 or less Base Attack Power to have their Base Attack Power on each hit multiplied by 1.5. (e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, Double Hit to from 4 per hit to 6 per hit etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack that has its BAP increased by Technician is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) Base Attack Power, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2). Because Technician is a multiplier on single hit moves, its effect is applied to Base Attack Power before any additive effects. Technician only applies to combos in the rare case that an initial hit will have 6 or less BAP.
Mold Breaker (DW):
Type: Passive
Whenever this Pokemon attacks, it emits an invisible, blindingly quick pulse preceding the attack that disables the opponents natural abilities. (e.g. Levitators plummet towards the ground before Earthquake hits, etc.) Attacks are still redirected by Lightningrod/Storm Drain, but damage is dealt normally. Status-immunity abilities such as Limber will remove their relevant status at the start of the victim's next action.

Let's see now... Chell @ Rare Candy has at the very least a decent change against all three of these guys, so let's start with her! Bring it on, Ralex!

Excellent, things all ready following the plan.

@ Life Orb

Vilgot, take the field and lets get this show started!

Fire Punch - Knock Off - Fire Punch
IF Counter, Bulk up the First time, Drain Punch the second, and Bulk up the 3rd
IF Bide is used A1, switch actions to Block - Focus Energy - Fire Punch
IF P/E move, Bulk up that action, but never twice in a row

Honestly don't ask me why I haven't tried to relock Dry Skin yet. God I feel dumb for ever unlocking it in the first place >.>

Yet another ASBer looks to pick onchallenge the Ice Gym and it looks on paper like Ragnarokalex has brought himself a very solid team. Then again you could say that about almost every team brought to the Ice Gym. That's what makes it such a challenge for waterwarrior to try and defend it. We kick off the match with Chell and Vilgot who both say "fuck that" to picking up any of the freely offered berries in the arena. Chell starts the round in promising form with an impressive STAB Super Effective Psychic throwing Vilgot across the arena for more than decent damage. Of course it's all thrown out the window when Vilgot unleashes the absolute power of Life Orb Iron Fist Sheer Force Adamant Conkeldurr Fire Punch vs Dry Skin Rank 2 Def Jynx. If you think describing it was a mouthfull then just look at the calculation. From there on out waterwarrior has no choice to go on the defensive and does it rather well. A Fake Out prevents at least one more attack from the concrete holding clown (Pokemon are such fun to describe literally) and once you account for the Hail both Pokemon have dealt largely even damage for the round. But the Ice Leader has sure lost a heck of a lot of momentum.

After a quick bit of switching up we find two new Pokemon on the icy field, both of these remembering to grab a berry on their way out which could prove very useful in the latter stages. Aerza holds the powerful dual STAB over the Ice Gym but Avalug is a famously hard nut to crack no matter which way you try and slice it. Ragnarokalex decides the best way to approach is simply though offence and while taking a couple of careful steps to protect against Titanic's potentially powerful weapons he instructs the Lucario to simply blast away with super effective ranged attacks. Even being hit on its more exposed side of defences Avalug still takes these like a champ and responds with a succession of seismic attack which not only bypass any damging substitutions but also give Titanic a rare speed advantage heading into next round. Of course one little thing had to pop up against the leader as one single critical hit turns what should have been a slight HP win for the round into an equally slight HP loss, but largely the match is still poised on a knife edge.

By my calcs, Aura Sphere only does 21.75 DMG with the crit, meaning that Avalugg has 50 HP, not 48.

Earthquake -> Superpower -> Earthquake
If Counter, change that action to Blizzard the first time, Icy Wind the second, and Blizzard the third
(Two subs) If damaging Fighting-type OR Steel-type combo, change that action to Protect

Be honest, did anybody really think Avalug was going to be this good? The iceberg is easily besting Lucario's Dual Super Effective Expert Belt STAB offence, even on the special side. Of course the Focus Sash and Ice Body are helping an awful lot on that front. Ragnarokalex is forced to resort to evasive measures just to keep Aerza alive throughout the round and burns his turn advantage while doing so. Once both Pokemon have chomped down on their berries Titanic looks well ahead in this match up, but standings are still largely equal overall so nothing is written in stone yet.

(One quick thing, Superpower lowers stats regardless of wether it misses or not, so i should have 2 more HP and its stats should still be lowered, and since Flash cannon got its secondary twice, its Special Defense should still be -2, although I believe it won't actually matter)

Switching Lucario out, Stratagem in

Well having a 20 HP Avalugg when he switches back into Stealth Rock if I go to Regice is basically the same as having a dead Avalugg sooo....

Not switching!

Have I mentioned enough times just how good Avalug is in this gym? Like seriously. Mould Breaker Stratagem might be the best counter to it possible but an almost dead Titanic still manages to land one strong hit and stall out Strata for some wated EN and a little Hail damage to soften it up for whatever waterwarrior brings in next. Gen 6 was kind to the ice type when it brought this behemoth into existence. Of course the leader might quickly regret the little bit of stalling when he sees the buffed up Rock mon staring him down. Still anyone's game, just for those playing along at home.

I wonder why waterwarrior bothers to send 6 mons to the referee for this gym. Basically all that team consists of is 4 possiblilities to form a team around Avalug and Regice. But of course who can blame him when you watch them both tank attacks on both sides of the spectrum like absolute walls. Toketsu is even able to strike back at a decent rate but ultimately the round ends the same way most of this battle has, in a virtual stalemate. This round was at least worth checking out for the hax. Stratagem got that second AncientPower boost Alex was hoping for but a critically hitting Focus Blast combined with a Special Defence drop on Flash Cannon mitigated this somewhat. Crucially however for the Leader was a costly miss on the final action. He does look ahead on paper, but those rocks make it mighty hairy for Jynx and Stratagem is moments away from chomping down on that berry. This match really comes down to how well waterwarrior is able to play Regice.
