[OVERVIEW]

Muk is one of the few offensive Poison-types in NU. Due to its bulk and Poison typing, it's a great stop to many of the Grass-types in the tier, such as Lilligant. Its Poison typing also allows it to soak up Toxic Spikes when required. Poison Touch, in combination with Poison Jab, allows Muk to consistently wear down opposing Pokemon, but due to its coverage moves having fairly low base power, Muk's damage output otherwise is average. Because of no reliable recovery and Muk's fairly low base Speed forcing it to take damage when attacking, Muk tends to get worn down quite easily throughout a game. Muk also faces some competition from Garbodor as an offensive Poison-type because of Garbodor's greater Speed and access to entry hazards.

Moves
========

In combination with Poison Touch, Poison Jab has an effective 51% chance to poison anything it hits, allowing Muk to easily wear down opponents. Gunk Shot is a more powerful alternative to Poison Jab, but because it isn't a contact move it doesn't have the same chance to poison its target. Shadow Sneak offers valuable priority to offset Muk's low base Speed that also hits frail Ghost- and Psychic-types, such as Haunter, Jynx, and Rotom, hard. Giga Drain hits Quagsire, Rhydon, and other Pokemon 4x weak to Grass-type moves hard. Brick Break hits Rock- and Steel-types, but as most Rock-types have high physical defense, it doesn't do much damage. Fire Punch hits Mawile and Ferroseed, two Pokemon that Muk otherwise can't beat. Alternatively, Ice Punch hits Ground-types, such as Sandslash, Torterra, and Golurk, as well as Archeops harder than any other move Muk has.

Set Details
========

Max Attack EVs and an Attack-boosting nature are used for maximum power. Using an Adamant nature is only for sets without Giga Drain, otherwise Brave is the preferred nature. Max HP gives the most bulk to Muk with the remaining EVs. Assault Vest boosts Muk's decent special bulk to better take on special attackers. Choice Band is an option over Assault Vest for more power, but Muk has no spammable STAB type to be locked into and the increased special bulk from Assault Vest is usually more useful. Poison Touch gives all of Muk's contact moves a chance to poison the opposing Pokemon and is the most useful ability for Muk.

Usage Tips
========

Use Muk to pivot into threats such as Mega Audino, Lilligant, and Ludicolo in order to tank a hit and threaten them with a STAB move. However, while Muk can take on several threatening specially offensive Pokemon, it can rarely take on more than one or two per game, so decide early which ones are the most important for Muk to cover. It can be worth attacking with Poison Jab even if the predicted switch-in resists Poison-type moves, as the chance to poison is very high. However, this should be done with care, as the poison chance isn't guaranteed and it can be better to just attack with the appropriate coverage move. Pokemon with moves that can cause a burn, such as Scald and Will-O-Wisp, should be approached with caution, as a burn will severely limit Muk's usefulness in the game.

Team Options
========

Good partners for Muk include Dark-types such as Liepard and Pawniard that can get rid of the Psychic-types that Muk is troubled by. Other good partners include Water-types such as Samurott that can take on the Ground-types that threaten Muk, while Muk in return can deal with the Grass-types that Water-types dislike. Pokemon that benefit from Muk luring in and taking out Carracosta and Rhydon with Giga Drain, such as Scyther, Sneasel, and Tauros, are good options. Fighting-types such as Sawk, Hariyama, and Gurdurr are able to deal with the Steel-types that are immune to Muk's STAB move better than Muk itself can. Lastly, Pokemon that can clear away entry hazards such as Claydol and Prinplup are good partners, as Muk will be switching in and out quite a bit and will benefit greatly from not having to take hazard damage every time.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Poison Jab, combined with Poison Touch, has a 51% chance of poisoning the target. Curse boosts Muk's Attack and Defense, making it very bulky and powerful, at the cost of its already low Speed. Shadow Sneak allows Muk to somewhat work around the Speed decrease Curse gives because of the priority, but it's a very weak move otherwise. It also deals significant damage to less bulky Psychic- and Ghost-types, such as Haunter, Mismagius, and Jynx. Fire Punch hits Steel-types such as Klinklang and Ferroseed that are immune to its STAB moves. Brick Break can provide solid coverage together with Poison Jab, hitting Rock- and Steel-types such as Carracosta, Klinklang, and Regirock. Gunk Shot can be used over Poison Jab for a boost in power, but the cost of lowered accuracy is usually too much.

Set Details
========

Max Special Defense and HP EVs with a Careful nature maximize Muk's special bulk, and Black Sludge gives a little bit of passive recovery. Sticky Hold can be used over Poison Touch to stop opposing Pokemon from using Trick to stop Muk from setting up.

Usage Tips
========

Set up late-game when the Psychic- and Ground-types that counter Muk are gone or weakened enough that Shadow Sneak can take them out. Muk can still be used early-game, however, by taking advantage of the high poison chance that Poison Jab has to weaken its switch-ins for later. While Curse boosts Muk's Defense, it's still not able to take on the stronger physical attackers in the tier such as Sawk and Archeops. Pokemon such as Lanturn and Mismagius that commonly carry moves that can cause a burn, such as Scald and Will-O-Wisp, should be approached with caution, as a burn will severely limit Muk's usefulness in the battle. Quagsire, Weezing, and Gourgeist-Super are also in this category, but they beat Muk one-on-one as well.

Team Options
========

Dark-types such asLiepard and Pawniard make for fairly good partners, as they can deal with the Psychic-types that Muk is troubled by. Fighting-types such as Sawk, Hariyama, and Gurdurr are able to deal with the Steel-types that are immune to Muk's STAB move. Water-types such as Samurott that can take on the Ground-types that threaten Muk are good partners, as Muk can in return deal with the Grass-types that Water-types dislike. Pokemon that commonly carry Grass- and Fire-type coverage such as Lilligant can deal with many of Muk's checks and counters, as they are often weak to either type. As Muk fears getting burned, Heal Bell support from Pokemon such as Audino is useful, but it's better to prevent Muk from being burned at all.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Power-Up Punch can be used over Brick Break on the Assault Vest set to boost its offensive power, though the low power of the move makes it useless for anything else. A combination of either ChestoRest or RestTalk can be used to give Muk some recovery, but RestTalk is somewhat unreliable and ChestoRest is a one-time option. Memento has some use on sets without Assault Vest as a way to enable something on Muk's team to set up easier. Another option is Explosion, which can allow a Muk at low health to deal a lot of damage. Note that most of Muk's common switch-ins either resist or are immune to Explosion, however.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Most Psychic-types, including Xatu and Uxie, can use Psyshock to hit Muk for super effective damage without having to worry about Assault Vest, while Muk has no way to threaten them unless they're weak enough to be taken out with Shadow Sneak. None of the Psychic-types in the tier can switch in repeatedly, however, as Muk's attacks wear them down relatively quickly.

**Ground-types**: Ground-types such as Sandslash, Quagsire, and Rhydon resist Muk's main STAB move and are bulky enough to take very little from Ice Punch, while they can threaten Muk with their own STAB moves. Quagsire and Rhydon both take significant damage from Giga Drain, however.

**Other Poison-types**: Due to Muk's normal coverage, other Poison-types such as Garbodor and Weezing have no trouble switching in on anything Muk might attack with and don't have to fear getting poisoned either. They can then proceed to, in Weezing's case, burn it with Will-O-Wisp, or in Garbodor's case, set up Spikes. Garbodor has to watch out for Curse variants though, as they can still set up on it.

**Strong Physical Attackers**: Most of the strong physical attackers in the tier, such as Kabutops, Archeops, Mawile, and Tauros, can all deal enough damage on Muk's less bulky physical side to easily take Muk out. Not many of them can freely switch in on Muk, however, as they risk getting poisoned and worn down faster because of that.

I guess I can take it to QC now.

(The C&C is a joke, I will fix that up tomorrow)

- Name set 1 Assault Vest instead of Bulky Attacker.

- Payback is terrible, remove that in OO

- i think fire punch deserves a spot in OO because it hits Ferroseed which is fairly common.

- Pain split in OO as well as it can take the place of curse on a bulky set if the user does not want to use curse.

- PuP in OO or under Set Comments for Set 1 because it isnt a terrible option on the AV set imo.

- add Memento in OO as it is a unique option Muk gets which could be useful on a bulky black sludge varient.

after you implement these, QC 1/3

edit: pain split is bad sorry, QQ and i talked, he is implementing rest talk instead.

I put PuP in OO for now. It could be a serious option over BB on AV, but I'd like some more input before putting it in Set Details.

Lilligant cry when this is in team preview :(
A great stop to many of the tiers Grass-types due to bulk and typing
Tends to get worns down quite fast throughout a game because of hazards and having to take hits due to low base speed
Only average power means it usually has to take two attacks to take out the opposing Pokemon, further shortening its lifespan

Mention its Poison typing; it's one of the few Poison attackers in the tier, and it can soak up Toxic Spikes as well.
Highlight Poison Touch allowing Muk to be able to wear down opponents easily.
Specify why it is lacking in power (low BP of coverage moves, has trouble against nearly any Poison resist).
You can even mention that it faces competition with offensive Garbodor, which is faster, has access to entry hazards, and even has arguably superior coverage with fewer moveslots.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Poison Jab poison 51% of the time + stab
  • Gunk Shot is more powerful, but misses and doesn't get the Poison Touch boost
  • Shadow Sneak priority and hit psychics sorta hard
  • Brick Break give important coverage vs Steel- and Rock-types that resist Muk's other moves
  • Ice Punch hit Ground-types that aren't weak to Fighting-type moves harder than any other move Muk have
Shadow Sneak mainly targets the fast and frail Ghost-types (Sneak really won't do jackshit against most Psychics and is outdamaged by Poison type STAB).
Specify the targets of these moves.
Slash Fire Punch before Ice Punch; Ice Punch targets aren't too common and can at least still be poisoned, but without Fire Punch Mawile can do whatever it wants with Muk, plus it bops Ferroseed which isn't even 3HKOed by unboosted Brick Break without Leech Seed support.

Set Details
========

  • Max Attack EVs and an Adamant nature for power and max HP give the most bulk for Muk.
  • Assault Vest boost Muk's decent special bulk even more
  • Choice Band is an option over Assault Vest for more power, but Muk has no spammable STAB to be locked into and the loss of special bulk(....?)
  • Poison Touch give all of Muk's contact moves a chance to poison the opposing Pokemon, for some passive damage, and is the most useful ability Muk has

Usage Tips
========

  • While Muk can take on several threatening specialy offensive Pokemon, it can rarely take on more than one or two per game, so decide early which ones are the most important for Muk to cover

Moves
========

  • Poison Jab is the main STAB move, which, combined with Poison Touch, have a 51% chance of poisoning the target
  • Curse boost Muk's Attack and Defense, making it overall very bulky and powerful
  • Shadow Sneak helps to avoid the Speed decrease Curse give with priority
  • Brick Break provide solid coverage together with Poison Jab, however Payback is another option for hitting Ghost-types such as Mismagius and Rotom harder.
  • Gunk Shot can be used over Poison Jab for the boost in power, at the cost of lowered accuracy
Remove Payback; coverage is redundant with Shadow Sneak, and boosted Sneaks should deter those two in any case (if they carry Wisp, Payback won't save you).

Set Details

There are Will-O Wisp users, mainly Weezing and Gourgeist, that outright beat Muk 1v1, so they should be listed alongside the mons that need to be rid of. Quagsire should also be listed there (why should it even try to Scald u when Earthquake cleanly 2HKOes?).

  • Pokemon that commonly carry Grass- and Fire-type coverage such as Lilligant can deal with most of Muk's checks and counters, as most of them share a weakness.
  • If Muk happen to get burned, Heal Bell support from Pokemon such as Audino is useful, but it's better to avoid being burned.

Not sure if Scyther is the best mention as it will have trouble breaking through Curse (especially if Scyther is not Banded). Something like Tauros would be much more fitting.

In the future please double post so qc knows that you've written it.

First off, there are a bunch of careless spelling and grammar mistakes so I'd definitely give this a read through before moving to GP.

[AV]
To be honest, I'd give Brick Break a little less credit since most Rock and Steel types are really physically bulky (regirock, klinklang, rhydon, carracosta, etc) but I guess it has the merits of hitting Aurorus, Probopass, Barbaracle, Pawniard and uh... nah on second thought BB is pretty meh. Almost all Rock-types take barely any damage from it and its just hitting those 3 that I mentioned, almost all the Steel-types are hit much harder with Fire Punch.

I'd like to see Giga Drain at least mentioned in moves and maybe even replacing Brick Break on the set, and as such with a Brave nature mentioned or slashed. Brick Break only hits 4 relevant targets (harder than another coverage move currently on the set), which I listed above and Giga Drain hits 5 mons (Kabutops - you live a hit from full HP and kill it after rocks + LO, Carracosta, Barbaracle, Quagsire, and Rhydon - even with a Brave nature Muk outspeeds and 3HKOs meaning it can only switch in once, and it actually has a chance to live EQ from standard tank Rhydon.) From a general standpoint, Muk is fairly slow so a -spe nature wouldnt be too much of an issue.

So, unless you or another qc strongly disagrees make moveslot 3 Giga Drain / Brick Break and slash Brave before Adamant.

Add examples of what Ice Punch hits, some examples are Archeops, Torterra, Sandslash, Gourgeist, Golurk, and Stunfisk.

[Usage Tips]
Give some examples of threats that Muk can pivot into, such as Haunter, Mega Audino, Lilligant, Ludicolo, Cryogonal, etc.

[Team Options]
Add some mons that like Quagsire / Costa / Rhydon weakened and lured in with Giga Drain.

[C&C]
Psychic types: mention they have trouble actually switching in to repeated attacks. Also Uxie is a much more relevant Psyshock user than Mesprit, CM Uxie is better and more common than CM mesprit for the most part.

no, double posting is bad

I have nothing against pushing Giga Drain onto the AV set. It's more useful than Brick Break probably, since every game I play with BB, I wish I had Giga Drain but never the reverse...

Did the other stuff, and hopefully? it's less sloppy writing now too :/

(I'll read it through another time after the stamp anyway)

Some of the sentences in the overview seem a bit choppy, and I think it'd be better if you tried to combine some of them to make it flow better.

From both moves sections, remove the part saying "..is the main STAB move" since its filler and its one less thing for GP to remove.

In both descriptions for Shadow Sneak, note that it hits some frailer Psychic and Ghost types such as Rotom, Jynx, and Haunter.

AV

[Moves]
Brick Break hits Pawniard and Probopass, which is pretty relevant and should be added to that sentence.

[Usage Tips]
Hm, that wasnt exactly how I wanted it worded and its a bit unclear currently. The bit about what mons it should pivot into and noting that you should preserve Muk to handle said threats should be to separate sentences. The first should be "use muk to pivot into threats such as x,y, and z in order to tank the hit and threaten with a stab move" and then use the sentence you had before about preserving Muk. Add a sentence about using Muk's coverage moves to hit their respective targets (you dont need to list them since you listed them in moves).

Curse

Fire Punch slashed before Brick Break, and make sure to list targets for both of these moves.

C&C
Ground types - note that Rhydon and Quag take a decent chunk from Giga Drain, but they have no trouble walling the Curse set.

Other Poison types - not a huge fan of this section since its really just Weezing as Garb is relying on helmet damage to deal with it, and it probably loses to the curse set if it doesnt have Haze. Dont care too much whether or not you keep this but I dont think its one of the more relevant things to be in C&C.

QC 3/3

Edit: yeah, that's fair - you don't have to add it

Did everything except the second UT about coverage moves.

I disagree with adding a tip that boils down to "Use coverage moves to hit the Pokemon they're intended for", because it adds nothing, is pretty much just filler since their targets were just listed and an analysis shouldn't have to tell people to attack with the type-chart in mind.

edit: No one have complained yet, handing it to GP I guess...

Dark-types such as Sneasel and Liepard make for fairly good partners, as they can deal with the Psychic-types that Muk is troubled by.

Power-Up Punch can be used over Brick Break on the Assault Vest set, (RC) to boost its offensive power. The low power of the move makes it useless for anything else, however. Note that most of Muk's common switch-ins either resist or are immune to Explosion, (AC) however.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Most Psychic-types, including Xatu and Uxie, can use Psyshock to hit Muk for super effective damage, (RC) without having to worry about Assault Vest, while Muk has no way to threaten them unless they're weak enough for Shadow Sneak to take them out.

Quagsire and Rhydon both take significant damage from Giga Drain, (AC) however.

**Other Poison-types**: Due to Muk's normal coverage, other Poison-types such as Garbodor and Weezing have no trouble switching in on anything Muk might attack with and don't have to fear getting poisoned either. They can then proceed to, in Weezing's case, burn it with Will-O-Wisp, or in Garbodor's case, (AC) set up Spikes.

Not many of them can freely switch in on Muk, however, as they risk getting poisoned and worn down faster because of that.

did ^, except this part because it confused me:

Most Psychic-types, including Xatu and Uxie, can use Psyshock to hit Muk for super effective damage without having to worry about Assault Vest, while Muk has no way to threaten them unless they're weak enough for Shadow Sneak to take them out.
Removing "them" from the end here seems odd, since "...unless they're weak enough for Shadow Sneak to take out." sounds more wrong (to me) that what is written now. The "before-change" wording was even used earlier...

Muk would you mind looking over that part again?

I would just use the passive and say "unless they're weak enough to be taken out by Shadow Sneak."

Works for me, Weebl's suggestion sounds fine.

Ready for GP 2 then.

[OVERVIEW]

Muk is one of the few offensive Poison-types in NU. Due to its bulk and Poison typing, it's a great stop to many of the Grass-types in the tier, such as Lilligant. Its Poison typing also allows it to soak up Toxic Spikes when required. Poison Touch,(AC) in combination with Poison Jab,(AC) allows Muk to consistently wear down opposing Pokemon, but due to its coverage moves having fairly low base power, Muk's damage output otherwise is fairly (repetitive) average.

Moves
========

Giga Drain is used to hits Quagsire, Rhydon, and other Pokemon 4x weak to Grass-type moves hard. Brick Break can be used to hits Rock- and Steel-types, but as most Rock-types have high physical defense, it doesn't do much damage. Fire Punch is used to hits Mawile and Ferroseed, two Pokemon that Muk otherwise can't beat. Alternatively, Ice Punch hits Ground-types,(RC) such as Sandslash, Torterra, and Golurk, and as well as Archeops harder than any other move Muk has.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Lastly, Pokemon that can clear away entry hazards such as Claydol and Prinplup that can clear away entry hazards are good partners, as Muk will be switching in and out quite a bit and will benefit greatly from not having to take entry hazard damage every time.

Moves
========

Fire Punch allows Muk to hits Steel-types such as Klinklang and Ferroseed that are immune to its STAB moves. Brick Break can provide solid coverage together with Poison Jab, hitting Rock- and Steel-types such as Carracosta, Klinklang, and Regirock. Gunk Shot can be used over Poison Jab for a boost in power, but the cost of lowered accuracy is usually too much.

Set Details
========

Max Special Defense and HP EVs with a Careful nature are used to maximize Muk's special bulk, and Black Sludge gives a little bit of passive recovery. Sticky Hold can be used over Poison Touch to stop opposing Pokemon from using Trick to stop Muk from setting up.

Usage Tips
========

Quagsire, Weezing, and Gourgeist-Super are also in this category, but they beat Muk one-on-one as well.

antemortem would you mind explaining why this change is correct?
Alternatively, Ice Punch hits Ground-types,(RC) such as Sandslash, Torterra, and Golurk, and as well as Archeops harder than any other move Muk has.
Listing them as "...Ground-types such as Sandslash, Tortarra, Golurk, and Archeops..." seems to imply Archeops is a Ground-type, which it isn't.

Did everything else tho.
