Silly Things You've Seen In Other Metagames

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ru-244391485

I tried to get into RU with an alt (Scarf Gigalith). The other guy had some...questionable choices.
  • Draco Meteor/AGUAV Berry Tyrantrum
  • Fire Blast/Flamethrower/Berry Juice Delphox
  • Absorb Bulb Houndoom (Which does surprise KO my Jolteon)
  • Fire Blast Emboar (Ever heard of Reckless?)
  • Charge Beam/Wild Charge Jolteon (Nice 65 Atk, nerd)
  • Zap Cannon Eelektross
Got the wrong thread friend. Noticed the title says Other Metagames? RU is a primary one because it does not change game mechs whatsoever. I don't think the RU subforum has a thread for this though.

Suicide lead Curse Haunter. I wonder what else it was supposed to do. I can't help but wonder if Sub+Curse with a pinch berry of some sort couldn't be a Linked set. But this didn't seem to be that, so...

Tailwind + Poison Jab Mega Beedrill. You know, if that was U-Turn instead, Mega Bee could actually be a solid Tailwind setter (though I'd sooner pick Scizor for reliability or TW+BP Zapdos, but w/e).

Flamethrower + CM Chandelure. Which would probably be a pretty good wallbreaker if those were the other way around.

Mawile, at all. My calcs suggest that that Fire Blast was launched off of a negative SpA nature. It can't even 2HKO Skarmory.

Recover + Payback Sableye. What.

It's a shame I didn't get to play against that Gardevoir, 'cause a competently constructed and played Mega Gardevoir probably could've bopped me from that point, lol.

Pressure Lugia, I should add. Why the hell would you not use Multiscale?
Pressure is still legit (well, in Ubers at least, dunno about AG) for the purposes of PP stalling, which Lugia can do quite well thanks to its insane bulk and Roost, plus the sheer number of 8 PP moves that are used. And with that bulk, Multiscale often won't make much of a difference even if the attack is super effective. (Multiscale is also incompatible with Defog, for what it's worth.)

Anyway...
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-244827544
A team with Tepig, Slugma, Quilava, Fire Spin Flareon, Shadow Claw Charizard-X (what are you hitting with that, anyway?) and Scarf Infernape, against a seemingly random Perish Song Arceus-Ghost that the Charizard didn't switch out of even though it could.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/balancedhackmons-244823421
How to exploit Magic Bounce with a lone Sturdinja and last 67 turns. Without actually hitting anything.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/balancedhackmons-244827689
Yeah, stop with the Magikarp meme. It sucks. Also featuring use of Aqua Jet (from Crawdaunt, of all things) under primal sun and Explosion Groudon-P.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/almostanyability-244827988
Drizzle Ferrothorn is one thing, but Thunder?

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-244827731
Yeah, I like Arcanine too, but it still is bad in AG. Especially solo.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-244826316
Another Arcanine, plus mixed Arceus-Normal, Jolteon, and Mega Rayquaza surviving an Ice Beam from (non-mega) Blastoise at -3 SpD.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-244825383
Aside from a handful of subpar mon choices, there are still knuckleheads who dare to hit Outrage when there are fairies (in this case, Diancie) in reserve.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/anythinggoes-244826653
Same Fire team from before, this time against a team where the only thing really viable in AG is Sableye. Although, that Machamp put in some good work. Also, the Infernape used Mach Punch. Scarfed. Gotta go fast.

What's up with the completely random MLP naming theme? Why would Torterra be Fluttershy? Why would Alakazam be Twilight (Other than the fact that Unicorns are psychic)? Why the fuck is Machamp Applejack? I'm also going the bet that Clefable is Pinkie Pie (Because pink) and Sableye is Rarity (Because, IIRC, Rarity had something to do with gems).

Found this and the first two turns alone make it worth posting. Tail glow goodra with EXTREMESPEED!
And THIS is why contrary checks/imposter are necessary. also, not using V-create.

Wow, just wow. Explosion mega gengar vs regular physical gengar

http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/anythinggoes-244900599
AHH. Awful steel mono vs even worse ubers team. Features delights such as incinerate Pdon, Defiant empoleon sweeping, water pulse+scald kyogre, and confuse ray dusclops

Even worse than the replay above. Highlights include yanmega thinking its a zubat, offensive shuckle AND smeargle, Toxic+Pursuit STARAPDOR, and more.

Showdown's buttons have colors now. Cool. Anyway:
  • (R) Air Balloon Blaziken, which makes a modicum of sense, but there are better items and it has other, more pressing weaknesses. Also passed a double Intimidate drop alongside +2 Speed to Meloetta, at least a special attacker.
  • (R) I believe that is Relic Song on a Meloetta-Aria set (Thunderbolt). Yeah, Serene Grace abuse, but you end up firing off every other attack with a 77 for a base stat. Good luck.
  • (L) Absol waiting a turn to Mega to presumably abuse Super Luck and nab a crit on Celebi with Night Slash. Of course, it then Megas in the face of a Lando-T, which does diddly-squat to help it.
  • (R) I have to wonder what this Dragonite was carrying for coverage, considering it killed Azumarill from 20% with Stone Edge.
  • (R) When double-switches go bad: Dragonite correctly predicts Magnezone-to-Diancie and kicks out to Carracosta, but of course it ends up eating a Volt Switch to the face. It doesn't even get to check Diancie, either, dying to an Earth Power (no Aqua Jet?).

BH metronome battle. Blisseys vs mewtwos

http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/anythinggoes-245106689
Stupidity abounds, with stupid names included. Features Outrage MEGANIUM(seriously, dude, nobody uses meganium ever, much less one with outrage)

K den.

EDIT:300th post Huzzah!

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-245180316

So you have an Ice monotype team, and you're going up against Fighting. Your opponent leads with a banded Pangoro, and you have a Jynx with Lovely Kiss and Nasty Plot waiting in the back. Do you:

a) Send in the Jynx after sacking your lead
b) Ask yourself why the hell you're using an Ice monotype in the first place
or c) Wait until the Pangoro has wrecked the rest of your team and then send in the Jynx

If you answered anything other than C, then congratulations! You're smarter than this guy.

>non-Sturdy Avalugg
If you're gonna use gimmick Ice at least go hard with Scarf Abomasnow and Specs Froslass <_<

Let's not forget curse avalugg in the face of said Pangoro! oh, and why would you lead with what should probably be your win con?

It could have been sturdy avalugg. it only got knocked down to 20% after that drain punch.

Nope :p

The opposing Avalugg's Ice Body heals it!

>Focus Sash Ferrothorn
>Weak Armor & Drill Peck Skarmory
>Weakness Policy Aggron
>Brick Break Excadrill
>Balloon Bisharp
Welcome to Smogon! Hope you enjoy it here in OI, this is a lovely place to start.

Anyway:
  • (R) Garchomp with Iron Head. Well, that takes care of Fairies. In a stunning twist, it actually flinched a Togekiss to death.
  • (L) Krokodile with Fire Fang, which took care of Ferrothorn.
  • (L) Ampharos with Cotton Guard, sent in on a rampaging +4 Mega Mom who had already taken down Zard-X and Goodra.
  • (L) Gooey Goodra. Hey, it's good for speed control, if nothing else. It was fairly useful here, except Mega Mom was still rampaging.
Another:
  • (L) Mega Charizard Y with Outrage. Oh boy. Also had Fire Pledge. At least it gets a Sun boost.
  • (R) Ice Punch freeze, and it actually lasts a turn, too.
  • (L) Tyranitar gets a sub up, but wastes the next turn setting rocks instead of, I dunno, Crunching.
  • (L) Mega Metagross has shown Earthquake, Zen Headbutt, and Ice Punch. L has a Shedinja. And yet it is not sent in until last.
  • (R) Metagross wasting a turn Ice Punching in vain.
  • (L) Sheddy gets one kill, using Phantom Force to evade a Toxic and then kill Vaporeon. Alas, it meets its end at the hands of...
  • (R) ...Jolteon with Shadow Ball. Hey, if it works for Raikou.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present Protean Curse in all its glory.
Also, lol Infestation Quagsire. Looks like somebody's been watching Verlisify. (Not that it doesn't work, but when you deal 9% and end up taking 28% against something with Leech Seed and now the ability to dodge Flamethrowers that may or may not mind being trapped (it is a wall, after all; its job is to take hits], you may wish to reconsider your matchup.)
