Project The 'Lure that Threat'! Neverused Edition.

I used to use an Watmel Berry Natural Gift+Giga Drain Kabutops to mess with the defensive core of Ferroseed+Seismitoad mid-XY,so something like Swords Dance/Stone Edge/Giga Drain/Natural Gift or Waterfall/Stone Edge/Giga Drain/Natural Gift(both with Watmel Berry ofc) is something that you could look into :)

Carracosta @ Life Orb
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet Superpower

Ferroseed seems a safe switch against Carracosta, till after a Shell Smash boost. Nothing could be further from the truth. Superpower (I suppose it over Aqua Jet, used to pick off weakened targets, but also over Stone Edge is a option, it depends to what we need to) is as surprising as deadly. This Carracosta's set is quite good outside Ferroseed, too. Some calcs:

252+ Atk Life Orb Carracosta Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Ferroseed: 169-200 (57.8 - 68.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Carracosta Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Ferroseed: 335-395 (114.7 - 135.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Alright we didn't get that many responses week 2, so hopefully we can get some more for week 3, I'd like to see some activity1
Okay so here we go with week three!
This week we're gonna go with a threat, and it is:

Sneasel!

One of NU's biggest threats right now, with it's incredible power and speed, it's always a scary sight, and something you'll aim to take out as quick as possible to make your life a little easier. Show me your lures and ways of unexpectedly dealing with this little guy!

This lure is a little reliant on out-predicting your opponent, but I guess most lures are, so here it goes:

Physically Defensive Colbur Xatu

Toot (Xatu) @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpA
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Psychic
- Calm Mind
- Signal Beam

Ideally, you find the room to set up a calm mind, as Signal Beam OHKOs at +2, then keep spamming psychic until they switch in Sneasel, which you bop with the Signal Beam. Another option, if you can't set up, is to predict the Sneasel switch-in, hit it with Signal Beam when it comes in and proceed to 2HKO it afterwards. Mostly everyone who I played against so far kept going for knock off instead of Icicle Crash, I guess because it has the better coverage against the switch ins I can make with my team. Xatu EATS Sneasels knockoff with the Colbur Berry. This EV spread gets never OHKO'd by Life Orb'd Icicle Crash, but struggles surviving against Banded Icicle Crashs, so while it is not the safest lure, it is able to put in massive work once you found out what set your enemy is.

Cause of its frailty sneasel doesn't want to switch in on moves a lot. So when its trying to revenge kill you can use some surprise factors like;

Magmortar @ Life Orb
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Mild Nature
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Mach Punch
- Hidden Power [Grass] / Earthquake

4 Atk Life Orb Magmortar Mach Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Sneasel: 234-276 (93.2 - 109.9%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Musharna @ Life Orb
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Signal Beam
- Moonlight

Sneasel should have thought twice about switching in. ;c Set up a trick room and kill them with a life orb boosted signal beam next turn.

252+ SpA Life Orb Musharna Signal Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasel: 260-307 (103.5 - 122.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

This lure works for every single Psychic type mon with access to CM and Signal beam with enough bulk like Uxie and Mesprit this too even running offensive spread can take one knock off with Colbur, a bad example will be Jynx

Haunter @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute / Taunt / Will-O-Wisp

You thought your Pursuit trap was safe..

252 Atk Choice Band Sneasel Pursuit vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Colbur Berry Haunter: 148-175 (64 - 75.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Haunter Hidden Power Fighting vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasel: 308-364 (122.7 - 145%) -- guaranteed OHKO

But what if they choose to Knock Off? I mean in the end it IS a 50/50 ;;

I'm not even sure if this is viable but I'm trying!

Prinplup (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Atk / 168 Def

- Scald
- Stealth Rock

Cool set but sneasel is not in NU anymore, I know you can run like signal beam to hit malamar instead of brick break

Excuse my poor knowledge for NU, forgot about the Sneasel/Gallade suspect ehe.. Megahorn Samurott also OHKOs sneasel/malamar but it's not really a lure since people expect that in their swords dance sets. Thanks for looking out though n_n

Okay I think this would be a good time to revive this but I'll try it differently and not do it by week but rather by when I think enough lures for a mon have been posted and/or discussed.

So, here's threat number 4:

Klinklang!
What a scary beast in NU at the moment, can you lure and destroy it before it grinds you to pieces?

Uxie @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 24 HP / 252 SpA / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Signal Beam
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Though Klinklang often uses CM Psychic-types as setup fodder, a super effective Hidden Power lets them turn the matchup around. HP Fire also hits Ferroseed, while HP Ground lets it keep a perfect Speed IV and so speed tie with other base 95s (and also hits Probopass lol). Uxie easily lives a +1 Gear Grind and isn't even 2HKOed by an unboosted one, and in return it gets to +1 as Klinklang switches in a proceeds to 2HKO it

252 SpA Uxie Hidden Power Fire vs. 156 HP / 0 SpD Klinklang: 104-124 (34.6 - 41.3%) -- 72% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Uxie Hidden Power Fire vs. 156 HP / 0 SpD Klinklang: 158-186 (52.6 - 62%) -- 98.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 24 HP / 0 Def Uxie: 120-144 (40.4 - 48.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Atk Klinklang Gear Grind (2 hits) vs. 24 HP / 0 Def Uxie: 180-212 (60.6 - 71.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Musharna @ Leftovers
Ability: Forewarn
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Barrier
- Moonlight
- Stored Power

As previously mentioned, Klinklang usually switches into CM Psychics and turns them into set up fodder, however with Barrier, Calm Mind and Stored Power Mushrana turns the table around...

Klinklang's unable to break +6 defence Musharna and you should also have the time to get up calm mind boosts to your desire while moonlight keeps Musharna nice and healthy. Stored Power destroys Klinklang and anything else in it's path after boosts.

+2 0 SpA Musharna Stored Power (220 BP) vs. 136 HP / 0 SpD Klinklang: 286-337 (96.9 - 114.2%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

What ever happened to this? This would be a fun project considering how much the tier has changed since the last update.

If Orphic would like to pick this project up again, that is more than ok. If he doesn't and anyone of you would like to get in contact with him and a mod about taking this project over, that is also ok. Otherwise, please stop bumping this thread, thank you :toast:

Okay so this seems like it's got a popular demand, or as popular as it's going to get so i'll restart it, last throw of the dice really, you guys dont contribute and it can't stay open :)

One of the most staple and splashable mons in NU rn, and something that lures are very common for, lure that Rhydon:

Rhydon @ Eviolite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Rock Polish

Rhydon @ Eviolite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 216 HP / 16 Atk / 244 SpD / 32 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Megahorn
You can either lure DD Rhydon or fat Rhydon take your pick, but please specify for which set you're trying to lure!
