[STABmons] Thundurus-I [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

EV

Banned deucer.
QC: unfixable / Ellipse / jeran
GP: The Dutch Plumberjack / Snobalt

[OVERVIEW]

Thundurus boasts the high Speed and Special Attack necessary to make it one of the most defining special threats in STABmons. Its most common ability, Prankster, grants it incredible utility while still maintaining a strong offensive presence, as it can render stall helpless with a priority Taunt or cripple an opposing sweeper with priority Thunder Wave. The combination of Flying and Electric is weak only to Rock and Ice, is immune to Ground attacks, and resists common types such as Steel and Flying. Offensively, these types carry great all-around coverage, as Flying is highly spammable with few Pokemon resisting and none immune to it, and Electric hits Rock- and Steel-types that resist Flying for neutral damage, missing out on only Electric. With its solid STAB coverage, it is one of the best Nasty Plot users, and along with its access to Taunt, it distinguishes itself as a premier stallbreaker. It can even run mixed and fully physical sets incredibly well, which take advantage of its second ability, Defiant.

These strengths are impeded by a vulnerability to one of the most common revenge killing tactics in STABmons, Fake Out + Extreme Speed, which both can hit Thundurus before it can launch a single attack. It also struggles against bulky attackers that can tank a hit and retaliate with a super effective attack or a strong neutral one. This also means that Thundurus must be careful when switching in, as it doesn't invest in bulk and its base defenses are nothing stellar. On top of that, its reliance on Life Orb and a weakness to Stealth Rock wear it down throughout the match, meaning it relies on Oblivion Wing for recovery when stronger options exist. However, these drawbacks are compensated for when you recognize all the positive traits it carries, mainly its versatility and combination of offense and utility, which all make Thundurus a Pokemon that instantly improves nearly any team just by running it.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Nasty Plot doubles Thundurus's Special Attack, meaning only the bulkiest of special walls will be able to check it reliably after a boost. Taunt is used to stop those walls, such as Chansey, from halting Thundurus's sweep with status ailments and prevents them from trying to phaze it or recovering off damage. It also shuts down Prankster Sableye before it can cripple Thundurus with a status condition or reverse its boosts with Topsy-Turvy. Oblivion Wing is Thundurus's best option for a Flying STAB move because it has a solid 80 Base Power and recovers 75% of the damage dealt to the target, which keeps Thundurus healthy after HP loss from Stealth Rock and Life Orb recoil. Thunderbolt is Thundurus's most reliable Electric STAB move and, together with Oblivion Wing gives great neutral coverage, hitting Steel- and Rock-types such as Heatran, Aegislash, and Tyranitar, which resist Flying, for high damage after a Nasty Plot boost.

Set Details
========

Prankster is integral to this set for using Taunt on Sableye before it can cripple Thundurus with a status ailment. Maximum Speed is run to outpace all Pokemon under base 111 Speed, and 252 EVs go into Special Attack to hit as hard as possible. The leftover 4 can go in either defensive stat. Life Orb powers up Thundurus's attacks while inflicting recoil, which is mitigated by Oblivion Wing's healing. However, Leftovers is a noteworthy choice for reducing residual damage, and it won't wear down Thundurus with recoil when attacking with Oblivion Wing isn't an option.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus should avoid switching into attackers that may have super effective coverage, such as Garchomp carrying Stone Edge, as it lacks the bulk to stomach those hits. However, be aggressive with switching into threats like defensive Landorus-T and Slowbro because they typically won't have an attack that does a lot of damage and any damage you may incur can be healed with Oblivion Wing. Setting up Nasty Plot puts immediate pressure on the opposing team, so you should use it to cause heavy damage to soft checks, such as Heatran, with Thunderbolt after it switches in. Moreover, setting up will draw in Fake Out + Extreme Speed users, so getting in your own check to those, such as Landorus-T or Ferrothorn, will preserve Thundurus and keep up your momentum. But be warned: common Fake Out + Extreme Speed users often have Belly Drum and can capitalize on Thundurus's switch by setting up, so outright attacking may prevent their sweep if you lack an Unaware partner. Generally, you want Thundurus to Taunt any walls that come in, such as Chansey, so that they can't impede its sweep and you can use them as setup bait while they struggle to do much in return. Faster threats may keep Thundurus from setting up early-game, so removing Aerodactyl and Weavile will ensure that you don't waste a turn setting up only to get forced out.

Team Options
========

A physical wall that can check Fake Out + Extreme Speed thrown at Thundurus makes for a good partner. Landorus-T, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn are notable checks to Fake Out + Extreme Speed users. Landorus-T can lower their attack with Intimidate, and Ferrothorn punishes contact with Iron Barbs and sometimes Rocky Helmet. All three of those Pokemon can also set Stealth Rock, which helps break down Pokemon that Thundurus can't guarantee to 2HKO such as opposing defensive Landorus-T and physically defensive Unaware Clefable. Additionally, Thundurus's Taunt prevents Defoggers from removing the entry hazards. A Pokemon that resists Ice is also important because Weavile outspeeds Thundurus and threatens to OHKO it with Icicle Crash. Choice Band Scizor doesn't mind Ice-types and threatens them with its own Steel-type STAB moves. Scizor also can bring in Thundurus safely with a slow U-turn. Even though it recovers lost HP with Oblivion Wing, Thundurus still appreciates having Stealth Rock removed. An offensive spinner such as Excadrill has good synergy with Thundurus and can help remove Heatran and Tyranitar. Scrappy Rapid Spin Stoutland and Latios with Defog are also solid entry hazard removal options with an offensive presence.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Thunder Wave lets Thundurus paralyze faster threats such as Aerodactyl or setup sweepers such as Mega Scizor and Togekiss in case they're threatening to sweep your team. It also provides general speed control for your team, giving slower teammates the jump against their foes. Oblivion Wing is the Flying-type STAB move of choice for its ability to heal Thundurus while dealing good damage. Thunderbolt is its strongest Electric-type STAB with perfect accuracy. Together the two moves have good coverage, hitting most of the metagame for at least neutral damage. Focus Blast hits one of its common checks, Tyranitar, for 4x super effective damage, often OHKOing it, while also doing decent damage to Electric-types such as Magnezone and Raikou. Volt Switch can be added to keep up momentum without sacrificing the power Thunderbolt brings. Even with just its STAB attacks, Thundurus maintains a strong offensive presence, so Taunt adds another layer of utility without sacrificing too much coverage. Lastly, Defog is an option over Thunder Wave or the moves in the last slot if you have no room for another Defogger or spinner on your team. The choice comes down to whether checking faster threats or clearing entry hazards is more important to you.

Set Details
========

Special Thundurus prefers to maximize its Speed and place the rest of its EVs into Special Attack, so this set is no exception. Prankster is mandatory to use Thunder Wave or Taunt on faster threats. Life Orb is important for getting 2HKOs on targets such as Heatran and Ferrothorn, but Sharp Beak is useful to power up Oblivion Wing without adding recoil. Leftovers adds more longevity at the cost of dealing less damage. Leftovers generally works best when this set is running utility moves besides just Thunder Wave, such as Defog, as mitigating Stealth Rock damage then becomes more important.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus should use its main STAB attacks frequently because they get the most coverage in the metagame. Oblivion Wing is preferred to use over Thunderbolt if you don't know what is switching in because nothing is immune to it. Focus Blast is great to catch something off guard. However, once it's been revealed, the opponent will be much more cautious with its intended checks to Thundurus. If you're running Volt Switch, this should be used frequently to keep up momentum. Most Ground-types in STABmons already take a lot of damage from STAB Oblivion Wing or a coverage attack, so they are not likely to come in on Thundurus to absorb the attack. Spread paralysis when it's safe to, such as when you predict the foe is about to set up on you. Don't waste a perfectly healthy Thundurus just to Thunder Wave a faster threat and then faint, however. Use Thunder Wave only when you absolutely need to cripple a threat because your team will be vulnerable to it or when Thundurus is about to faint anyway. Similarly to Thunder Wave, try not to Defog if you know that Thundurus will get KOed that turn. Instead, try to clear entry hazards on a switch or against something that Thundurus can force out, such as Skarmory.

Team Options
========

Dedicated Knock Off support is helpful to weaken special walls such has Chansey and Heatran, which then can no longer rely on Eviolite or Leftovers, respectively. Tyranitar can do this well. A Pokemon that checks Electric-types such as Assault Vest Raikou and Magnezone helps because they tend to come in on Thundurus expecting to tank an Oblivion Wing or Thunderbolt. Excadrill fears little from them, threatens with Ground-type STAB moves, and has the added benefit of spinning away Stealth Rock if you don't run Defog on Thundurus. If Thundurus carries Volt Switch, a partner with U-turn can form a VoltTurn core to generate momentum. Scizor and Choice Scarf Landorus-T are great offensive U-turn users, and they can even soften up some of Thundurus's typical checks with their physical attacks. Thunder Wave's ability to cripple fast threats such as Aerodactyl and Shift Gear Mega Scizor can enable some slower Pokemon such as Heatran to revenge kill them more easily. Heatran can also take the Ice-type attacks aimed at Thundurus while Thundurus can take Fighting- and Ground-type moves for Heatran. Terrakion provides a dedicated answer to Tyranitar if Thundurus lacks Focus Blast. It also beats enemy Heatran and threatens Defiant users such as Braviary and Bisharp, which may try to absorb Thundurus's Defog.

move 4: Knock Off
item: Life Orb
ability: Defiant
nature: Naive
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Oblivion Wing is the preferred Flying-type STAB move with its reliable damage output and benefit of leeching 75% of the damage dealt as HP recovery. Volt Switch is generally preferred over Thunderbolt to keep up momentum against the foe, and most Ground-types in STABmons take heavy damage from Thundurus's other attacks anyway, so there's little worry about them halting your momentum. Thunderbolt is still an option to deal consistent damage, however. Focus Blast hits off Thundurus's higher Special Attack stat but comes with the drawback of poor accuracy. Superpower trades power for better accuracy but also lowers Thundurus's Attack and Defense by one stage each. It is Thundurus's most reliable attack against Tyranitar, however, whereas Focus Blast risks a miss and then a game of Pursuit / Sucker Punch afterward. Knock Off allows Thundurus to remove Eviolites, Assault Vests, and Leftovers, letting it follow up with a strong attack the next turn for a possible 2HKO. 4 HP / 252 Def Bold Chansey, for example, is 2HKOed 99% of the time with the combination of Knock Off and Superpower. Aeroblast may be used over Oblivion Wing for stronger Flying-type STAB move with a greater critical hit rate, but Thundurus then loses out on HP recovery, and the constant Life Orb recoil and Stealth Rock damage will wear it down. Taunt is also an option to stop walls that Thundurus can't KO from recovering off damage and stalling it out.

Set Details
========

Defiant is chosen over Prankster because Thundurus has no status moves on this set, and Defiant can score an Attack boost on Defog or Parting Shot to make its physical attacks stronger. If you do carry Taunt, however, Prankster is acceptable to outprioritize Sableye. A Naive nature is chosen so as not to compromise either offensive stat. Lowering Thundurus's weaker Special Defense is preferred in this case because the metagame is more physically oriented with priority. Life Orb is the preferred item to grant power with the freedom to switch between attacks. Oblivion Wing's HP replenishment helps to mitigate the recoil. Expert Belt, however, is feasible to boost power on super effective hits without any recoil. Lum Berry can also work to absorb a Dark Void once from Sableye, but Thundurus will need Taunt and Prankster in order to prevent it from using Dark Void again the following turn.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus is a great cleaner once faster and bulkier threats have been removed, so don't be too overeager with it, especially if the foe has strong priority or could possibly survive a hit and retaliate for the KO. Use Volt Switch often to keep up momentum while wearing down the foe. If a Ground-type switches in, Thundurus's secondary STAB move will hit most of them for lots of damage anyway. Use Oblivion Wing on weak or neutral targets as much as possible to recover HP and when pivoting out with Volt Switch isn't needed. Try to predict Tyranitar switching in and use Focus Blast or Superpower to KO it. Otherwise, it can KO Thundurus back with Sucker Punch or Pursuit depending on whether Thundurus attacks or switches, respectively. Use Knock Off on walls to weaken them by removing their item. This is also Thundurus's strongest attack versus Latias and Latios initially, unless the former is holding Latiasite. Defiant ignores King Shield's Attack drop, so you don't need to fear it when using Knock Off or Superpower on a Steel-type such as Heatran. You can also use Thundurus as a Parting Shot sponge, as most Sableye will use it to switch after putting one of your Pokemon to sleep with Dark Void.

Team Options
========

Without any priority, this set is bait for other priority users to come in and inflict status or attack. A Magic Bounce Pokemon to take on Sableye is preferred, and your own Mega Sableye can accomplish this while not fearing Knock Off. Plus, if the enemy Sableye uses Parting Shot, you can switch into Thundurus to get the Defiant boost. Fake Out + Extreme Speed, the most common form of attacking priority, can be tanked by Slowbro, which also checks Choice Scarf Terrakion for Thundurus. Aerodactyl and Choice Scarf Landorus-T can KO Thundurus with Rock-type attacks, so a bulky Ground-type such as Hippowdon or Garchomp is recommended to sponge their moves. Garchomp can also punish them if they attack with a contact move thanks to Rough Skin. Both Hippowdon and Garchomp can set entry hazards for Thundurus, which helps soften up switch-ins and pressures Defog users, which must be wary of Defiant. A Pokemon to absorb Ice-type moves from the faster Weavile is also helpful. Heatran does this very well and can use either of its own Fire or Steel attacks to scare it out. With Volt Switch, Thundurus will often switch before it can heal, so removing Stealth Rock for it is important. Chansey or Stoutland can spin and also Baton Pass into Thundurus as needed. A U-turn user is also a good idea to partner with Thundurus for keeping up your team's momentum. Choice Band Scizor works and doesn't stack weaknesses with the other teammate recommendations above.

[SET]
name: Physical Attacker
move 1: Bolt Strike
move 2: Dragon Ascent
move 3: Knock Off
move 4: Superpower
item: Life Orb
ability: Defiant
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Bolt Strike is Thundurus's strongest STAB attack, and it comes with no drawbacks other than somewhat shaky accuracy. It also carries a decent chance to paralyze the target. Dragon Ascent is also very strong but carries the downside of dropping Thundurus's Defense and Special Defense by one stage each afterward. It is preferred over Brave Bird so that Thundurus doesn't stack recoil with Life Orb and Stealth Rock damage, and the drops to its defenses aren't too bad considering that it's already frail. Knock Off grants power and utility in one move and removes items such as Eviolite on Chansey or Porygon2, allowing Thundurus to follow up with a KO in some instances. Superpower hits the Steel-types that are able to sponge its STAB attacks, such as Magnezone, while also hitting Normal-types the hardest. Fusion Bolt is a weaker but perfectly accurate option over Bolt Strike. U-turn grants momentum but isn't very strong and contradicts the set's purpose, which focuses on grabbing Attack boosts and sweeping.

Set Details
========

Defiant is required because it boosts Thundurus's Attack by two stages any time a stat is lowered by the foe. Defog, Parting Shot, Intimidate, and King's Shield all activate it. Maximum Speed is preferred to beat a lot of the metagame that sits under base 111 Speed. 252 EVs go into Attack because Thundurus wants to hit hard without worrying about bulk. The remaining 4 EVs can go in either defensive stat. Life Orb grants power but will wear down Thundurus over time, so Leftovers is a viable alternative to slowly recover HP while mitigating Stealth Rock and other residual damage.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus's STAB moves can put immense pressure on the opponent's team and do heavy damage most of the time, but they carry a few risks. Bolt Strike might let in a threat for free, and Dragon Ascent might leave Thundurus open to revenge killing or Pursuit trapping. Knock Off is a great option to use when you don't know what's coming in and you want to remove its item. Superpower will lower Thundurus's Attack and Defense stats, so don't use it unless you need to catch a Steel- or Normal-type, because it leaves Thundurus vulnerable afterward. Defiant negates King's Shield's Attack drops, so don't fear that move when attacking, but it will not negate self-inflicted drops from Superpower. Try to switch into predicated Defogs, Intimidates, and Parting Shots to get the boost from Defiant.

Team Options
========

Without Leftovers, this set has no HP recovery and will lose 25% of its HP upon switching in with Stealth Rock on your side of the field, so bring a Defogger or spinner such as Chansey or Stoutland. Chansey can also pass Wishes and heal Thundurus of any status ailments with Heal Bell. A teammate that can break bulky Ground-types such as Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Quagsire is appreciated. A Grass-type can take on Hippowdon and Quagsire with ease, so bring Ferrothorn, which is immune to Toxic, or Tangrowth to remove them. An offensive Grass-type such as Serperior works as well and can put a lot of pressure on the opposing team with Spore and Contrary Leaf Storm. Rotom-W can also handle Gliscor and Hippowdon thanks to Levitate.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Rain Dance sets with Hurricane and Thunder are usable with a Damp Rock and do well on rain teams with Swift Swim Pokemon. Aeroblast hits harder than Oblivion Wing and carries a higher critical hit rate. The HP recovery is missed greatly, however. Grass Knot is highly situational but deals consistent damage to Tyranitar if Focus Blast's accuracy is a turn-off. Some Prankster sets can run Feather Dance or Eerie Impulse to lower the target's Attack and Special Attack, respectively, but besides being a nuisance, they don't do much else. Roost is also an option to use with Prankster to recover HP quickly, but using it leaves Thundurus vulnerable to Ground attacks, so it should be used carefully. Mirror Move can turn the foe's attacks back on itself, but it's often too situational to work in the long term. Lastly, Tailwind grants your team double Speed for three turns and can be used to give your slower teammates a strong offensive presence.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Assault Vest Thundurus-T is one of the best checks to Thundurus because it's immune to Electric-type attacks due to Volt Absorb and resists Thundurus's Flying-type STAB moves, as well as its common coverage moves such as Superpower, Focus Blast, and Grass Knot. It can use its own strong Thunderbolts to 2HKO Thundurus back. Assault Vest Raikou takes minimal damage from any non-Nasty Plot special sets and can also 2HKO with Thunderbolt. Magnezone 4x resists Flying and resists Electric but must be wary of any Fighting-type attacks.

**Rock-types**: If Thundurus lacks a Fighting-type attack or Grass Knot, strong Rock-types are able to beat it one-on-one. Tyranitar, Terrakion, and Rhyperior can tank a hit and retaliate with their STAB moves. Tyranitar bypasses Thundurus's high Speed with Sucker Punch, and Choice Scarf Terrakion also outspeeds Thundurus and KOes it with Diamond Storm. Aerodactyl outspeeds Thundurus and KOes it with Head Smash, though it must watch out for Thunder Wave, which will cripple it for the rest of the match.

**Ice-types**: Weavile outspeeds Thundurus and KOes it with Icicle Crash. Mamoswine can survive anything bar a Fighting attack or Grass Knot and KO back with Icicle Crash or use Ice Shard to pick off a weakened Thundurus. Mamoswine also has the benefit of an Electric immunity and can use that to switch in with careful prediction. Kyurem functions similarly to Mamoswine but without the Electric immunity.

**Priority**: Other forms of priority such as Fake Out + Extreme Speed and Sableye's Dark Void or Will-O-Wisp threaten to knock out Thundurus or halt its sweep, respectively.

**Dedicated Special Walls**: Chansey checks special sets lacking Taunt and Nasty Plot. She can Toxic stall and attack with Seismic Toss. Assault Vest Meloetta tanks any special attack even at +2 and always OHKOes back with Boomburst with 252 Special Attack EVs. Even Assault Vest Slowking can tank a Thunderbolt and OHKO back with Mirror Coat.

**Bulky Offensive Pokemon**: Garchomp, Latios, and Choice Scarf Heatran aren't weak to either Electric or Flying, and all three of them resist at least one of those. They work as soft checks that can tank a few hits and retaliate with a strong Stone Edge, Psystrike or Draco Meteor, or Blue Flare, respectively. Knock Off reduces the effectiveness of the latter two as checks, however.

I've stickied this so people who are new to C&C can follow along.

So right now I have this set listed as WIP (Work in Progress). It's in skeleton format and will stay this way until I receive 2 QC checks. (Technically I only need 1 check before I write the full analyses because I'm a QC member. For non-members, you will need 2.)

While it's still in WIP I'm going to post all the relevant, viable sets for this Pokemon. When I think I have them all I will fill in the information for each section in bullet points. Then I will ask for my first QC.

WHEW! My skeleton is all done. I've written all that I think is necessary for these four sets and now I will open it up for QC. To do that I'll change the tag on the thread from WIP to Quality Control and also change the title and add [QC 0/3]. It's also helpful to post "QC Ready" in the thread itself to bump it toward the top.

So: QC ready!

Mention hurricane in OO. Not as reliable as oblivion wing but the extra power (and I guess confusion chance) can be extremely clutch in some scenarios.

It is in OO. I would not run it on non-Rain teams.

Hey Eevee General, I'm here to QC!

Overview

Mention it's somewhat lacking bulk. It has trouble switching in on neutral attacks, and it can't take any super effective hit. It also has a Stealth Rock weakness, which adds up very quickly with Life Orb, so it's worn down very very quickly even with Oblivion Wings.

Remove the "and because Thundurus is not bulky itself, it often goes down to any SE attack" and instead merge that with my above sentiment about switching in and being worn down.
Prankster Nasty Plot

Really minor, but I believe the order of the set should be Nasty Plot | Taunt | Thunderbolt | Oblivion Wing. It seems weird to have a status move in the first slot, and in the last slot, so for consistency merging them near each other makes more sense.

Slash Leftovers over Life Orb. It provides another form of recovery, Thundurus is very powerful at +2 anyways, and Oblivion Wing + Leftovers is great because it means Thundurus has the potential to set up maybe one more time and lets it maintain health after Stealth Rock throughout the match.

Set Comments

Moves: Looks solid. A mention of Hurricane should be placed, due to how insanely powerful it is at +2. It faces really stiff competition from Oblivion Wing, but that base power can't be denied. It 2HKOes Chansey after a bit of residual damage, for an example of its power. I know you dislike it outside of Rain, but it's still very powerful and deserves a mention. Talk to me on Showdown!, though, I know you're not putting it on easy. ;]

Set Details: "speed tie with base 111." Which other base 111 are there? The only other one is Tornadus. Reword this sentence to something like "outspeeds everything under base 111" so that it makes more sense. Talk about Leftovers here as well. If you chose not to slash it, it at least deserves a mention here.

Usage Tips: Mention how hard it is to switch in. Only switch in on predicted Ground-type attacks, or via a slow U-turn / Volt Switch (the latter can be expanded upon in Team Options, however).

Team Options: What Pokemon set Spikes for it? Mention those in specific. Also, mention a few Pokemon that appreciate stallmons (Chansey, Clefable, etc) being Taunted so they can either set up or attack without much fear.
Special Attacker

Thunder Wave needs to be the very first mention. It's the move important move on the set, in my opinion, due to the raw utility it packs and the utility it brings to a team all in just one moveslot. For sure move it to the very first slot.

Set Comments

Moves: Defog is really mediocre unless you're using it as an emergency method of removing hazards, and giving up Thunder Wave for Defog is a subpar choice because you lose Thunder Wave's utility. Speaking of Thunder Wave, it deserves a much larger mention. It's so useful, it can't be under exaggerated. You should also mention how useful it is on Speed boosting reliant teams in case it fails, as a sort of failsafe back up. For example, Tailwind. Your Rhyperior isn't always under Tailwind's effects, and spreading paralysis means it still outspeeds the foes it needs to.

Set Details: Looks fine. Unlike the last slot, don't mention Leftovers on this set. You probably weren't going to, but just in case because it's a subpar option on a more offensive set such as this.

Usage Tips: The fifth bullet point is sort of incorrect. Using Thundurus as a really quick emergency check to a set up sweeper that could potentially sweep your entire team. If it means you sack Thundurus in return for the rest of your team not being swept, then it's fine. Again, an emergency is an emergency. Besides that, it looks really solid.

Team Options: Looks solid. Entry hazard support is useful, but I guess it doesn't become such a huge problem versus the other set.
Specially-based Mixed

Superpower should be slashed before Focus Blast due to Defiant boosting its power to really scary levels, while Focus Blast is not boosted by Defiant. So it's better for Superpower to be used.
Set Comments

Moves: Looks solid! But, do mention mention how Volt Switch does mean you lose your Defiant boosts because you're forced to switch out, so Thunderbolt can be used for not being forced out. Mention U-turn as well, as it a.) gets boosted by Defiant and b.) lets you switch out on Ground-types coming in to take your Electric-type attack. Useful move!

Set Details: Good. Thanks for mentioning why Hasty is bad, the priority thing is important and you hit it on the nail! I've found Sharp Beak works good on this set to not take LO recoil from everything, and Oblivion Wing is a bit less used on this one with all that coverage. Maybe even Expert Belt.

Usage Tips: Great, nothing to change here.

Team Options: Solid.
Physical Attacker

This is the one set where I don't like slashing Leftovers, lol. I think the raw power of Life Orb is useful due to the lower Attack stat than Special Attack, and the high power of these attacks are much harder to switch into because of the higher power provided.

Set Comments

Moves: Don't mention Brave Bird. It's not a good option, and Dragon Ascent outclasses it. The Defense and Special Defense drop don't matter because Thundurus is so frail anyways, and the wearing down from Brave Bird is not appealing. Fine otherwise.

Set Details: Life Orb > Leftovers indefinitely! The raw power it provides is great. Already explained it above. Brave Bird needs to be removed, however, and I stated why already.

Usage Tips: Looks good.

Team Options: Looks good.
Strategy Comments

Other Options: Looks fine, but I wouldn't mention Parabolic Charge. It's really, really weak and it's subpar. Oblivion Wing does everything it wants and you run Thunderbolt / Volt Switch anyways, so there's no point, really.

Checks & Counters: Thundurus-Therian, the best counter out there, needs to be the first mentioned in Electric-types. I also feel that Electric-types are better than Rock-types at checking Thundurus, so I'd suggest moving it up to the first or second slot.
Implement all of this, and..

QC 1/3

Nice job! It looks long, but it's mainly minor nitpicks here and there. :]

Okay so I got my first QC check. The feedback and criticism can be difficult to take in the first few times, so don't feel bad if your gut tightens up as you read. But remember we're here to help each other and it all comes from a place of constructiveness; the QCers just want the analysis to be the best it can be.

I'll incorporate all of unfixable's feedback unless I have strong reservations about a particular recommendation. In that case I'll reach out to him and discuss why I don't think it's necessary to make the change. Maybe by talking we can agree something else works better, or maybe we realize we didn't understand each other at the start. Communication is important here, but try to keep it outside of the thread so it doesn't get bogged down.

One thing I disagreed with was his recommendation to add Hurricane to the Nasty Plot set. I discussed why I didn't think that was a good idea and we came to a compromise: I would add Hurricane to the Mixed set because he thinks the raw power it provides should be noted in a more conspicuous place other than Other Options.

After I incorporate the rest of his feedback, I'll edit the title so it says [QC 1/3] and then request my next check.

QC 2 ready!

Even pendulums swing both ways
For speed ties base 111, I would actually go to say it speed creeps base 110s. These include Latios and Gengar, two major threats, with physical sets slapping each with knock off. Its an important baseline for Thundy to hit and I think being specific would be productive there.

Hurricane is a very decent option on its nasty plot set, but I understand why you don't like it.

Defog should definitely be in OO, I have tried it several times and found it situational but viable. It works, its just not very pretty and is generally a subpar option unless you are particularly weak to hazards and can't fit a remover on your team.

This looks really cool, I've actually played around with Defog and it's especially nice because no Defiant user is ever switching into Thundurus, allowing you to remove hazards without fear.

Overview:
  • Is it relevant to bring up its abilities in previous generations?
  • Break the fourth bullet into two, with the first part discussing what makes Flying a good offensive type, which is the overall lack of resistances (Electric, Rock, Steel), rather than 0 immunities. The second part tells us what makes its type good defensively, which is discussed fine (maybe note the resistance to its own flying moves?)
  • Ice Shard is not relevant, since Kyurem-B is gone, and Cloyster and Weavile typically forego it, so just change it to a vulnerability to FakeSpeed
Prankster Nasty Plot
Moves:
  • When talking about Taunt, mention that it allows you to beat Unaware Clefable as well.
Usage Tips:
  • Since Thundurus's role in this Scenario isn't as much as being the be-all-end-all sweeper, you should tell users to play more aggressively with Thundurus, rather than holding it back in on a safe switch in. This does not mean to play dumb with it, but bringing it in on a Landorus-T Brave Bird, then threatening to Oblivion wing it back, or coming in on Slowbro's predicted Scald and threatening with a Thunderbolt are positions that they want to be in.
  • Again, Nasty Plot can be used more aggresively, such as Nasty Plot as a weakened Heatran comes in, KO it, then force the opponent to bring their FakeSpeeder out while you safely bring in a check like Lando-T
Team Options:
  • Azumarill don't run Rapid Spin as far as I know, and it would be better to mention some faster forms of Hazard control, like Stoutland or Latios.

Overall, I'm not sure that this should be the first set. I think an offensive utility set with Thunder Wave + Taunt should be the first mention, as it doesn't mind as much being forced in and out by the opponent, and is better at disrupting them.

Special Attacker

Moves:
  • Slash Taunt in moveslot 4, as Thundurus is still an effective attacker with just its STABs, and Taunt keeps Chansey and her Friends away

Set Details:
  • I disagree with Unfixable. Leftovers does deserve a mention on this set, but not as a slash, and should be accompanied with the note that it is only better in a situation where the set has more utility than just Thunder Wave (Defog for example, would probably want leftovers since it would often switch into hazards)
Usage Tips:
  • "If you're running Volt Switch, this should be used frequently to keep up momentum unless you're sure a Ground-type is switching in." Even then, most ground types (Excadrill, Landorus-T, Quagsire, Gliscor) don't appreciate eating a Focus Blast or Oblivion Wing, and are slower than Thundurus and can barely hit it
Team Options:
  • Add Terrakion (and maybe other Fighting types), since it beats Tyranitar and Heatran with ease
Specially-based Mixed
Moves:
  • Grass Knot isn't worthy of a mention on this set, since if accuracy is the only thing dissuading you from using Focus Blast on Tyranitar, than Superpower is the substitute
  • Why is Hurricane suddenly mentioned on this set? What makes it better than the more reliable Aeroblast? i think that both of these options should stay in OO and not on the sets themselves
  • HP Ice seems like another move that should remain in OO, since it doesn't actually help Thundurus in this meta, as most of the things it hits get beat by Oblivion Wing
  • Taunt and Thunder Wave either mention a slash on slot 3, or acknowledgement
Set Details:
  • If the suggestion regarding Thunder Wave and Taunt is added, then Prankster should also be mentioned to reflect that
Team Options:
  • Slowbro should be mentioned here as a check to FakeSpeed and Terrakion
Physical Attacker:
Moves:
  • Explicitly state what makes Dragon Ascent a superior option (SR weakness, Life Orb, and Recoil is too much residual), so people understand that it is intentional that Brave Bird isn't on the set
Usage Tips:
  • Dragon Ascent and Bolt Strike are both relatively safe moves, since the of the main ground types (Excadrill, Garchomp, Landorus-T) only Garchomp can threaten you that much if it comes in freely on Bolt Strike, while the only thing running pursuit at this point is Tyranitar (and occasionally Weavile or Bisharp), and at that point it becomes a 50/50 of Sucker Punch
Team Options:
  • Landorus-T is still a great solution to all the same pokemon that threaten this set and the other sets as well.
  • I'm not sure talking about mentioning Landorus-T Stone Edges are, since most forgeo it to run ground move / roost / sr, Koff, or u-turn / BB
Strategy Comments
Other Options:
  • Since Defog wasn't talked about much, mention it here
  • Tailwind could also be another interesting support option
  • ParaFusion with Chatter and Substitute is a very annoying set, and deserves acknowledgement that it exists
Checks & Counters:
  • Really any Thundurus-T, not just AV, works as a near hard counter
  • Note that Tyranitar can beat it if it carries Sucker Punch, and Scarf Terrak is also a safe check
  • Create a section for bulky and strong non electric and flying weak pokemon, for things like Garchomp, Scarf Heatran, and Lat@s (for non Koff versions), as checks

Ellipse - I'm working on the write-up and I just incorporated your check minus a few things:
  • I didn't add utility moves to Specially-based Mixed because then it's just the same thing as the Special Attacker set above. I'm leaning toward merging the two sets, however. Thoughts? unfixable also.
  • I'm hesitant to put the Nasty Plot set second because I find it the most defining Thundurus set currently. Not much can handle setup and Taunt together, whereas the disruptor/special attacker set is annoying but doesn't use things like Chansey as setup bait and then sweep teams, unlike the first. Prankster utility Twave is great but it doesn't win as many games imo.
  • For team options on the first set, I've used Azu as an offensive spinner but I swapped it for Mega Blastoise, a better Water spinner that beats Heatran and Tyranitar. I also added Latios and Stoutland, but they don't beat those Pokemon unless Stoutland is running Superpower, and I think most of the time it's defensive.

Don't think they should merge. They play differently. Combining sets for the sake of combining them is not a good idea.

But when he tells me to add Thunder *Wave and Taunt as options, it is essentially the same set, hence my concern.

I mean, look at it this way: Choice Band and Choice Scarf sets typically run similar moves on most Pokemon, but how they play is what separates the set. Does that make sense?

Addressing what changes that were implemented and ignored, I'm alright with Nasty Plot being the first set if you truly think that that is its defining and most valuable set, it's just when I think of Thundurs or see it in preview, the first thing that runs through my head is Twave + 3 attacks, or 2 and Tuant. The only other concern I have is with the offensive water spinner, since we specifically rejected the Blastoise analysis because it highlighted it as a spinner, and saying that it's a good spinner on this page, yet a poor spinner on its own page is confusing and does not give players a good idea of how to use Blastoise or what it will typically be doing.

In terms of making a second set or merging the two sets into one, I'm alright with it, except that would turn the physical moves from the mixed set into essentially just more utility (Koff "kills" Chansey, Superpower is better for TTar) and like unfixable said, not really show how Thundurus plays differently between the two sets.

Overview: This is alright, covers everything about thundurus

Prankster Nasty Plot

moves:
  • everything is good but unaware clefable doesnt like lo thunderbolt i dont feel like it shouldn't be mentioned here because Oblivion Wing out damages any move clefable may have.
Set Details:

Usage Tips:
  • this is alright, you should go in deeper about the Fake Out + Extreme Speed users since they can carry belly drum which cripple or potentially sweep your team.
Team Options:
  • This is solid, mentions everything that thundurus needs for a teammate.
Special Attacker

moves:
  • you shouldnt mention grass knot since it doesnt hit anything hard enough besides pokemon such as quagsire or swarpert because Oblivion Wing already 2hkos both though it has its surprise factor intact.

Specially-based Mixed

moves: very solid!

set details: looks great

Usage Tips:
  • not much to say here but i feel you should add how defiant can switch into parting shot pokemon such as sableye because sableye tends to want to leave the battle after voiding one of your pokemon.
team options: looks good!

Physical Attacker

moves:
  • Do you need to mention brave bird? its very outclassed by dragon ascent because the recoil is unnecessary and the drop in bulk isn't noticeable while nuking pokemon since u are already very frail.

[OVERVIEW]

Thundurus boasts the high Speed and Special Attack necessary to make it one of the most defining special threats in STABmons. Its most common ability, Prankster, grants it incredible utility while still maintaining a strong offensive presence, as it can render stall helpless with a priority Taunt (RC) or use Thunder Wave and cripple an opposing sweeper instead with priority Thunder Wave. The combination of Flying and Electric leaves it is weak to only Rock and Ice, ignores is immune to Ground attacks, and resists common types such as Steel and Flying. Offensively, (AC) these types carry great all-around coverage, (AC) as Flying is highly spammable with its few resistances Pokemon resisting and no immunities immune to it, and Electric hits Rock- and Steel-types that resist Flying for neutral damage, missing out against on only Electric. With its solid STAB coverage, (AC) it is one of the best Nasty Plot users, (AC) and along with its access to Taunt, (AC; keep "along" if the stallbreaking set is Taunt + NP) it distinguishes itself as a premier stallbreaker. It even runs mixed and fully physical sets incredibly well, which take advantage of its second ability, (AC) Defiant.

These strengths are impeded by a vulnerability to one of the most common revenge killing tactics in STABmons, Fake Out + Extreme Speed, which both hit Thundurus before it can fire off a single attack. It also struggles against bulky attackers that can tank a hit and retaliate with a super effective attack or even a strong neutral one. This also means Thundurus must be careful when switching in, (AC) as it doesn't invest in bulk and its base defenses are nothing stellar. On top of that, (AC) its reliance on Life Orb and a weakness to Stealth Rock wear it down throughout the match, meaning it relies on Oblivion Wing for recovery when stronger options exist. However, these drawbacks are compensated for when you recognize all the positive traits it carries, mainly its versatility and combination of offense and utility, which all make Thundurus a splashable Pokemon that instantly improves nearly any team just by running it.

Moves
========

Nasty Plot doubles Thundurus's Special Attack, meaning only the bulkiest of special walls will be reliable at checking it able to check it reliably after a boost. Taunt is used to stop those walls, (AC) such as Chansey, (AC) from halting your Thundurus's ("you" are the player) sweep with status and prevents them from trying to phaze you out it or recovering off damage. It also shuts down Prankster Sableye before it can status you Thundurus or reverse your its boosts with Topsy-Turvy. Oblivion Wing is your Thundurus's best option for a Flying STAB move because it has a solid 80 base power and recovers 75% of the damage dealt to the target, which keeps Thundurus healthy after HP loss from Stealth Rock and Life Orb recoil. Thunderbolt is your Thundurus's most reliable Electric STAB move and together with Flying gives great neutral coverage, hitting Steel- and Rock-types such as Heatran, Aegislash, and Tyranitar, (AC) that which resist Flying, (AC) for high damage after a Nasty Plot boost.

Set Details
========

Prankster is integral to this set for using Taunt on Sableye before it can status you Thundurus. Maximum Speed is run to outpace all Pokemon under base 111, (AC) and 252 EVs go into Special Attack to hit as hard as possible. The leftover 4 can go in either defensive stat. Life Orb powers up Thundurus's attacks while bringing recoil, which is mitigated by Oblivion Wing's healing. However, Leftovers are is notable for reducing Stealth Rock and residual damage and won't wear down Thundurus with recoil when attacking with Oblivion Wing isn't an option.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus should avoid switching into attackers that may have super effective coverage, (AC) such as Garchomp carrying Stone Edge, (AC) as it lacks the bulk to stomach those hits, such as Garchomp carrying Stone Edge. However, be aggressive with switching into threats like defensive Landorus-T and Slowbro because they typically won't have an attack that does a lot of damage and any damage you incur can be healed with Oblivion Wing. Setting up Nasty Plot puts immediate pressure on the opponent, so you should use it to cause heavy damage to soft checks like such as Heatran with Thunderbolt after it switches in. Plus, setting up will draw in Fake Out + Extreme Speed users, so getting into in your own check like to those, (AC) such as Landorus-T or Ferrothorn, (AC) will preserve Thundurus and keep up your momentum. But be warned: common Fake Out + Extreme Speed users often have Belly Drum and can use your switch to setup capitalize on Thundurus's switch by setting up, so outright attacking may prevent their sweep if you lack an Unaware partner. Generally you want Thundurus to Taunt any walls that come in, (AC) such as Chansey, (AC) so they can't impede your its sweep and you can use them as setup bait while they struggle to do much in return. Faster threats may keep you Thundurus from setting up early game, so remove Aerodactyl and Weavile so you don't waste a turn setting up only to get forced out.

Team Options
========

A physical wall that can check FakeSpeed Fake Out + Extreme Speed thrown at Thundurus makes a good partner. Landorus-T, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn are notable FakeSpeed checkers checks to Fake Out + Extreme Speed users. Landorus-T can lower their attack with Intimidate, (AC) and Ferrothorn punishes contact with Iron Barbs and also sometimes Rocky Helmet. All three of those Pokemon can also set Stealth Rock, which helps break down Pokemon Thundurus can't normally 2HKO. Plus Additionally, Thundurus's Taunt prevents Defoggers from removing the entry hazards. An Ice-resist A Pokemon that resists Ice is also important because Weavile outspeeds and threatens with Icicle Crash. Choice Band Scizor doesn't mind Ice and threatens them with its own Steel STAB moves. Scizor also can bring in Thundurus safely on a slow U-turn. Even though it recovers lost HP with Oblivion Wing, Thundurus still appreciates having Stealth Rock removed. An offensive spinner like Excadrill has some good synergy with Thundurus and can also help remove Heatran or Tyranitar while spinning hazards. Scrappy Rapid Spin Stoutland and Latios with Defog are also solid hazard removal options with an offensive presence.

Moves
========

Thunder Wave provides the core utility of this set, letting lets Thundurus paralyze faster threats such as Aerodactyl or boosting Pokemon like such as Mega Scizor or Togekiss in case they're threatening to sweep your team. It also provides general speed control for your team, giving slower teammates the jump against your opponent their foes. Oblivion Wing is the primary Flying STAB move of choice for its ability to heal Thundurus while dealing good damage. Together with Thunderbolt the two moves have good coverage, hitting most of the metagame for at least neutral damage. Focus Blast hits one of its common checks, Tyranitar, for 4x super effective damage, often OHKOing it, while also doing the most to Electric-types such as Magnezone and Raikou. Volt Switch can be added to keep up momentum without sacrificing the power Thunderbolt brings. Even with just its STAB attacks Thundurus maintains a strong offensive presence, so Taunt adds another layer of utility without sacrificing too much coverage. Lastly, Defog is an option over Thunder Wave or the moves (wording consistency) in the last slot if you have no room for another Defogger or spinner on your team. The choice comes down to whether checking faster threats or clearing hazards is more important to you.

Set Details
========

Special Thundurus prefers to maximize its Speed and dump the rest of its EVs into Special Attack, so this set is no exception. Prankster is mandatory to use Thunder Wave or Taunt on faster threats. Life Orb is important for getting 2HKOs on targets like Heatran and Ferrothorn, but a Sharp Beak is useful to power up Oblivion Wing without adding recoil. Leftovers adds more utility with the trade-off at the cost of dealing less damage. Leftovers generally works best when this set is running utility besides just Thunder Wave such as Defog, as mitigating Stealth Rock damage then becomes more important.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus should use its main STAB attacks frequently because they get the most coverage in the metagame. Oblivion Wing is preferred to use over Thunderbolt if you don't know what is switching in because it has nothing is immune to it. Focus Blast is great to catch something off guard. But However, (don't start sentences with "but", "and", and the like) once it's been revealed, the opponent will be much more cautious with its intended checks to Thundurus. If you're running Volt Switch, this should be used frequently to keep up momentum. Most Ground-types in STABmons already take a lot of damage from STAB Oblivion Wing or a coverage attack, so they are not likely to come in to Thundurus to absorb the attack. Spread paralysis when it's safe to, such as when you predict an opponent is about to set(space)up on you. Don't waste a perfectly healthy Thundurus just to Thunder Wave a faster threat and then die, however. Use Thunder Wave only when you absolutely need to cripple a threat because your team will be vulnerable to it or when Thundurus is about to faint anyway. Similarly to Thunder Wave, try not to Defog if you know you'll get KO'd Thundurus will get KOed that turn. Instead, try to clear entry hazards on a switch or against something that you Thundurus can force out, (AC) such as Skarmory.

Team Options
========

Dedicated Knock Off support is helpful to weaken special walls like Chansey and Heatran, who which then can no longer rely on Eviolite or Leftovers, (AC) respectively. Tyranitar can do this well. A Pokemon that checks Electric-types such as Assault Vest Raikou or and Magnezone helps because they tend to come in on Thundurus expecting to tank an Oblivion Wing or Thunderbolt. Excadrill fears little from them, threatens with Ground STAB moves, and has the added benefit of spinning away Stealth Rock if you don't run Defog on Thundurus. If you carry Thundurus carries Volt Switch, a partner with U-turn can form a VoltTurn core to generate momentum. Scizor and Choice Scarf Landorus-T are great offensive U-turners U-turn users, (AC) and they can even soften up some of Thundurus's typical checks with their physical attacks. With Thunder Wave's ability to cripple fast threats like such as Aerodactyl and setup Mega Scizor (RC) can enable some slower Pokemon like Heatran are able to revenge them easier more easily with its Steel and Fire STABs, respectively. Heatran can also take the Ice attacks aimed at Thundurus and while Thundurus tanks Fighting and ignores Ground for Heatran. Terrakion provides a dedicated answer to Tyranitar if you lack Thundurus lacks Focus Blast. It also beats enemy Heatran and threatens Defiant users such as Braviary and Bisharp, (AC) that which may try to absorb Thundurus's Defog.

Moves
========

This set focuses on overpowering the opponent's team with its coverage, both special and physical. Oblivion Wing is still the preferred Flying STAB with its reliable damage output and benefit of leeching 75% of the damage dealt as HP recovery. Volt Switch is generally preferred over Thunderbolt to keep up momentum against the opponent foe, (AC) and most Ground-types in STABmons take heavy damage from Thundurus's other attacks anyway, (AC) so there's little worry about them halting your momentum. Thunderbolt is still an option to deal consistent damage, however. Focus Blast hits off its Thundurus's higher Special Attack but comes with the risk of poor accuracy. Superpower trades power for better accuracy but also lowers Thundurus's Attack and Defense by one each. It is your its most reliable attack against Tyranitar, however, whereas Focus Blast risks a miss and then a game of Pursuit / Sucker Punch afterward. Knock Off allows you Thundurus to remove Eviolites, Assault Vests, and Leftovers, letting you it follow up with a strong attack the next turn for a possible 2HKO. 4 HP / 252 Def Bold Chansey, for example, is KO'd 99% of the time with a combination of Knock Off and Superpower. Aeroblast may be used over Oblivion Wing for stronger Flying STAB move and a chance to crit with a greater critical hit rate, (AC) but you lose your then Thundurus loses out on HP recovery and the constant Life Orb recoil and Stealth Rock damage will wear it down. Taunt is also still (borders on cross-set referencing) an option to stop walls it Thundurus can't KO from recovering off damage and stalling it out Thundurus.

Set Details
========

Defiant is chosen over Prankster because Thundurus has no status moves on this set, plus and Defiant can score an Attack boost on Defog or Parting Shot to make its physical attacks stronger. If you do carry Taunt, however, Prankster is acceptable to let you move before outprioritize Sableye. A Naive nature is chosen so as not to compromise either attack offensive stat. Lowering the weaker Special Defense is preferred in this case because the metagame is more physically oriented with priority. Life Orb is the preferred item to grant power with the freedom to switch between attacks. Oblivion Wing's HP replenishment helps to mitigate the recoil. However, an (idrm if you use articles for the items, but be consistent) Expert Belt is feasible to boost power on super effective hits without any recoil. A Lum Berry can also work to absorb a Dark Void once from Sableye, (AC) but Thundurus will need Taunt and Prankster in order to prevent it from Dark Voiding using Dark Void again the following turn.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus is a great cleaner once faster and bulkier threats are have been removed, so don't be too overeager with it, especially if the opponent has strong priority or could possibly live survive a hit and retaliate for the KO. Use Volt Switch often to keep up momentum while wearing down the opponent. If a Ground-type switches in, your secondary STAB move will hit most for lots of damage anyway. Use Oblivion Wing on super effective or neutral targets as much as possible to recover HP and when pivoting out with Volt Switch isn't needed. Try to predict a Tyranitar switching in and use Focus Blast or Superpower to KO it. Otherwise, (AC) it can KO Thundurus back with Sucker Punch&mdashif you attack it attacks&mdashor Pursuit&mdashif you switch it switches&mdashafter (replaced commas with emdashes for readability) Thundurus has already taken Stealth Rock and one round of Life Orb damage once. Use Knock Off on walls to weaken them by removing their item. This is also your Thundurus's strongest attack versus Latias and Latios initially, unless the former is holding a Mega Stone. Defiant ignores King Shield's Attack drop, (AC) so you don't need to fear that move when using Knock Off or Superpower on a Steel-type such as Heatran. You can also use Thundurus as a Parting Shot sponge, as most Sableye will use that move to switch after putting one of your Pokemon to sleep with Dark Void.

Team Options
========

Without any priority, it's this set is bait for other priority users to come in and status or attack. A Magic Bouncer Bounce Pokemon to take on Sableye is preferred, and your own Mega Sableye can accomplish this and doesn't even have to fear Knock Off. Plus, if the enemy Sableye Parting Shots uses Parting Shot, you can switch into Thundurus to get the Defiant boost. Fake Out + Extreme Speed, the most common form of attacking priority, can be tanked by Slowbro, which also checks Choice Scarf Terrakion for Thundurus. Aerodactyl and Choice Scarf Landorus-T can KO Thundurus with Rock-type attacks, so a bulky Ground-type like such as Hippowdon or Garchomp sponges is recommended to sponge their moves well. Garchomp can also punishes punish them if they attack with a contact move thanks to Rough Skin. Both Hippowdon and Garchomp can set entry hazards for Thundurus, (AC) which helps soften up switch-ins and also pressures their Defog users, (AC) which must be wary of Defiant. A Pokemon to absorb Ice-type moves from the faster Weavile is also helpful. Heatran does that very well and can use either of its own Fire or Steel attacks to scare it off. With Volt Switch, Thundurus will often switch before it can heal, so removing Stealth Rock for it is important. Chansey or Stoutland can spin and also Baton Pass into Thundurus as needed. A U-turner U-turn user is also a good idea to partner with Thundurus for keeping up your momentum. Choice Band Scizor works and doesn't stack weaknesses with the other teammate recommendations above.

Moves
========

Bolt Strike is Thundurus's strongest STAB attack, (AC) and it comes with no drawbacks other than a somewhat shaky accuracy. It also carries a decent chance to paralyze the target. Dragon Ascent is also very strong but carries the downside of dropping Defense and Special Defense by one each afterward. The reason this attack It is preferred over Brave Bird is so you don't Thundurus doesn't stack recoil with Life Orb and Stealth Rock damage, and the drops to its defenses aren't too bad considering it's already frail. Knock Off grants power and utility in one move and removes items such as Eviolite on Chansey or Porygon2, allowing Thundurus to follow up (remove hyphen) with a KO in some instances. Superpower gets the Steel-types that are able to sponge its STAB attacks such as Magnezone while also hitting Normal-types the hardest. Fusion Bolt is a weaker but perfectly accurate (remove hyphen) option over Bolt Strike. U-turn grants momentum but isn't very strong and contradicts the set's ability purpose, which focuses on grabbing Attack boosts and sweeping.

Set Details
========

Defiant is required because it boosts Thundurus's Attack by two any(space)time a stat is lowered by the opponent. Defog, Parting Shot, Intimidate, and King's Shield all activate it. Max Speed is preferred to beat a lot of the metagame which that sits under base 111. 252 EVs go into Attack because Thundurus wants to hit hard without worrying about bulk. The remaining 4 EVs can go in either defensive stat. Life Orb grants power but will wear down Thundurus over(space)time, so Leftovers are viable is a viable alternative to slowly heal recover HP while mitigating Stealth Rock and other residual damage.

Usage Tips
========

While its STAB moves are its most powerful attacks, putting immense pressure on the opponent's team and doing the damage most of the time, they both carry risks; (SC) Even though they Bolt Strike might let in a threat for free, (AC) (Bolt Strike) or and Dragon Ascent might leave you Thundurus open to revenging or Pursuit trapping (Dragon Ascent), they put immense pressure on the opponent's team and do the most damage most of the time. Knock Off is a great option to use when you don't know what's coming in and you want to remove its item. Superpower will lower Thundurus's Attack and Defense stats, so don't use it unless you need to catch a Steel- or Normal-type because it leaves you Thundurus vulnerable afterward. Defiant negates King's Shield's Attack drops, so don't fear that move when attacking, but it will not negate self-inflicted drops from Superpower. Try to switch into predicated Defogs, Intimidates, and Parting Shots to get the boost from Defiant.

Team Options
========

Without Leftovers, (AC) this set has no HP recovery and will lose 25% per switch upon switching in with Stealth Rock on your side of the field, so bring a Defogger or spinner such as Chansey or Stoutland. Chansey can also pass Wishes and heals heal Thundurus of any status with Heal Bell. Something to A teammate that can break bulky Ground-types such as Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Quagsire is appreciated. A Grass-type can take on Hippowdon and Quagsire with ease, so bring Ferrothorn, which is immune to Toxic, or Tangrowth to remove them. An offensive Grass-type such as Serperior works as well and puts a lot of pressure on the opponent with Spore and Contrary Leaf Storm. Rotom-W can also handle Gliscor and Hippowdon can also be handled by Rotom-W thanks to Levitate.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Rain Dance sets with Hurricane and Thunder are usable with a Damp Rock and do well on rain teams with Swift Swimmers Swift Swim Pokemon. Aeroblast hits harder than Oblivion Wing and carries a higher critical hit rate. The HP recovery is missed greatly, however. Grass Knot is highly situational but deals consistent damage to Tyranitar if Focus Blast's accuracy is a turn-off. Some Prankster sets can run Feather Dance and/or Eerie Impulse to lower the target's Attack and Special Attack, (AC) respectively, but besides being a nuisance they don't do much else. Roost is also an option to put with Prankster to recover HP quickly, but you become using it leaves Thundurus vulnerable to Ground attacks, (AC) so it should be used carefully. Mirror Move can turn the enemy's attacks back on itself, but it's often too situational to work in the long term. (remove hyphen) Lastly, Tailwind grants your team double Speed for three turns and can be used to give your slower teammates a strong offensive presence.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: AV Thundurus-Therian Assault Vest Thundurus-T is one of the best checks to Thundurus because it's immune to Electric attacks with Volt Absorb and resists Thundurus's Flying STAB moves and other common coverage moves like such as Fighting Superpower, Focus Blast, and Grass Knot. (or whatever, but it's inconsistent to talk about the [Electric] moves first and then switch to types) It can use its own strong Thunderbolts to 2HKO back. AV Assault Vest Raikou takes minimal damage from any non-NP non-Nasty Plot special sets and will can (or just "also 2HKOes", but tense consistency) also 2HKO with Thunderbolt. Magnezone 4x resists Flying and resists Electric but must be wary of any Fighting attacks.

**Rock-types**: If Thundurus lacks a Fighting attack or Grass Knot, strong Rock-types are able to beat it one-on-one. Tyranitar, Terrakion, and Rhyperior can tank a hit and retaliate with their STAB moves. Tyranitar bypasses Thundurus's high Speed with Sucker Punch, (AC) and Choice Scarf Terrakion also outspeeds Thundurus and KOes it (it doesn't "outspeed it with Diamond Storm") with Diamond Storm. Aerodactyl outspeeds Thundurus and KOes it with Head Smash, (AC) though it must watch out for Thunder Wave, (AC) which will cripple it for the rest of the match.

**Ice-types**: Ice-type Pokemon also threaten Thundurus. Weavile outspeeds Thundurus and KOes it with Icicle Crash. Mamoswine can live survive anything bar a Fighting attack or Grass Knot and KO back with Icicle Crash or use Ice Shard to pick off a weakened Thundurus. Mamoswine also has the benefit of an Electric immunity and can use that to switch in with careful prediction. Kyurem functions similarly to Mamoswine but without the Electric immunity.

**Priority**: Other forms of priority like FakeSpeed or such as Fake Out + Extreme Speed and Sableye's Dark Void or Will-O-Wisp threaten to knock out Thundurus or halt its sweep, respectively.

**Dedicated Special Walls**: Chansey checks special sets lacking Taunt and Nasty Plot. She can Toxic stall and attack with Seismic Toss. AV Assault Vest Meloetta tanks any special attack even at +2 and always OHKOes back with Boomburst with 252 Special Attack EVs. Even AV Assault Vest Slowking can tank a Thunderbolt and OHKO back with Mirror Coat.

**Bulky Offensive Pokemon**: Garchomp, Latios, and Choice Scarf Heatran aren't weak to either Electric or Flying, and in all three cases all three of them resist at least one of those. They work as soft checks that can tank a few hits and retaliate with a strong Stone Edge, Psystrike/Draco Meteor, or Blue Flare respectively. Knock Off reduces the effectiveness of the latter two as checks, however.

Nasty Plot doubles Thundurus's Special Attack, meaning only the bulkiest of special walls will be able to check it reliably after a boost. Taunt is used to stop those walls, such as Chansey, from halting Thundurus's sweep with status and prevents them from trying to phaze it or recovering off damage. It also shuts down Prankster Sableye before it can status Thundurus, [AC] or reverse its boosts with Topsy-Turvy. Oblivion Wing is Thundurus's best option for a Flying STAB move because it has a solid 80 base power and recovers 75% of the damage dealt to the target, which keeps Thundurus healthy after HP loss from Stealth Rock and Life Orb recoil. Thunderbolt is Thundurus's most reliable Electric STAB move and together with Flying gives great neutral coverage, [RC] Thunderbolt hitting hits Steel- and Rock-types such as Heatran, Aegislash, and Tyranitar, which resist Flying, for high damage after a Nasty Plot boost[Sentence was a bit too long, shortened it and made the point more clear.].

Prankster is integral to this set for using Taunt on Sableye before it can status Thundurus. Maximum Speed is run to outpace all Pokemon under base 111, and 252 EVs go into Special Attack to hit as hard as possible. The leftover 4 can go in either defensive stat. But be warned: common Fake Out + Extreme Speed users often have Belly Drum and can capitalize on Thundurus's switch by setting up, so outright attacking may prevent their sweep if you lack an Unaware partner. Generally you want Thundurus to Taunt any walls that come in, such as Chansey, so they can't impede its sweep and you can use them as setup bait while they struggle to do much in return. Faster threats may keep Thundurus from setting up early game, so remove removing Aerodactyl and Weavile will ensure so you don't waste a turn setting up only to get forced out.

A physical wall that can check Fake Out + Extreme Speed thrown at Thundurus makes a good partner. Landorus-T, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn are notable checks to Fake Out + Extreme Speed users. All three of those Pokemon can also set Stealth Rock, which helps break down Pokemon Thundurus can't normally 2HKO. Additionally, Thundurus's Taunt prevents Defoggers from removing the entry hazards. A Pokemon that resists Ice is also important because Weavile outspeeds and threatens with Icicle Crash. An offensive spinner like Excadrill has good synergy with Thundurus and can help remove Heatran or Tyranitar. Scrappy Rapid Spin Stoutland and Latios with Defog are also solid hazard removal options with an offensive presence.

Moves
========

Thunder Wave lets Thundurus paralyze faster threats such as Aerodactyl or boosting Pokemon such as Mega Scizor or Togekiss in case they're threatening to sweep your team. It also provides general speed control for your team, giving slower teammates the jump against their foes. Oblivion Wing is the primary Flying STAB move of choice for its ability to heal Thundurus while dealing good damage. Together the two moves have good coverage, hitting most of the metagame for at least [At least neutral? That's not really good wording. Saying it hits most of the metagame for neutral damage will suffice.]neutral damage. Lastly, Defog is an option over Thunder Wave or the moves in the last slot if you have no room for another Defogger or spinner on your team[I would put Defog in the set if you're going to talk about it.]. The choice comes down to whether either being able to checking faster threats, [AC] or clearing hazards is more important to you.

Set Details
========

Special Thundurus prefers to maximize its Speed and dump the rest of its EVs into Special Attack, so this set is no exception. Prankster is mandatory to use Thunder Wave or Taunt on faster threats. Life Orb is important for getting 2HKOs on targets like Heatran and Ferrothorn, but Sharp Beak is useful to power up Oblivion Wing without adding recoil. Leftovers adds more utility at the cost of dealing less damage. Leftovers generally works best when this set is running utility besides just Thunder Wave such as Defog, as mitigating Stealth Rock damage then becomes more important.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus should use its main STAB attacks frequently because they get the most coverage in the metagame. Oblivion Wing is preferred to use over Thunderbolt if you don't know you're unsure what is switching in because nothing is immune to it. Focus Blast is great to catch something off guard. However, once it's been revealed, the opponent will be much more cautious with its intended checks to Thundurus. If you're running Volt Switch, this should be used frequently to keep up momentum. Most Ground-types in STABmons already take a lot of damage from STAB Oblivion Wing or a coverage attack, so they are not likely to come in to on Thundurus to absorb the attack. Spread paralysis when it's safe to, such as when you predict an opponent is about to set up on you. Don't waste a perfectly healthy Thundurus just to Thunder Wave a faster threat and then die, however. Use Thunder Wave only when you absolutely need to cripple a threat because your team will be vulnerable to it or when Thundurus is about to faint anyway. Similarly to Thunder Wave, try not to Defog if you know Thundurus will get KOed that turn. Instead, try to clear entry hazards on a switch or against something that Thundurus can force out, such as Skarmory.

Team Options
========

Dedicated Knock Off support is helpful to weaken special walls like Chansey and Heatran, which then can no longer rely on Eviolite or Leftovers, respectively. Tyranitar can do this well. A Pokemon that checks Electric-types such as Assault Vest Raikou and Magnezone helps because, [AC] as they tend to come in on Thundurus expecting to tank an Oblivion Wing or Thunderbolt. Excadrill fears little from them, threatens with Ground STAB moves, and has the added benefit of spinning away Stealth Rock if you don't run Defog on Thundurus. If Thundurus carries Volt Switch, a partner with U-turn can form a VoltTurn core to generate momentum. Scizor and Choice Scarf Landorus-T are great offensive U-turn users, and they can even soften up some of Thundurus's typical checks with their physical attacks. Thunder Wave's ability to cripple fast threats such as Aerodactyl and setup Mega Scizor can enable some slower Pokemon like Heatran to revenge them more easily. Heatran can also take the Ice attacks aimed at Thundurus while Thundurus tanks Fighting and ignores Ground for Heatran. Terrakion provides a dedicated answer to Tyranitar if Thundurus lacks Focus Blast. It also beats enemy Heatran and threatens Defiant users such as Braviary and Bisharp, which may try to absorb Thundurus's Defog.

Moves
========

This set focuses on overpowering the opponent's team with its coverage, both special and physical. Oblivion Wing is still the preferred Flying STAB with its reliable damage output and benefit of leeching 75% of the damage dealt as HP recovery. Focus Blast hits off Thundurus's higher Special Attack but comes with the risk of poor accuracy. Superpower trades power for better accuracy but also lowers Thundurus's Attack and Defense by one each. It is its most reliable attack against Tyranitar, however, whereas Focus Blast risks a miss and then a game of Pursuit / Sucker Punch afterward. Knock Off allows Thundurus to remove Eviolites, Assault Vests, and Leftovers, letting it follow up with a strong attack the next turn for a possible 2HKO. 4 HP / 252 Def Bold Chansey, for example, is KO'd 99% of the time with a combination of Knock Off and Superpower. Aeroblast may be used over Oblivion Wing for stronger Flying STAB move with a greater critical hit rate, but then Thundurus then loses out on HP recovery and the constant Life Orb recoil and Stealth Rock damage will wear it down. Taunt is also an option to stop walls Thundurus can't KO from recovering off damage and stalling it out.

Set Details
========

Defiant is chosen over Prankster because Thundurus has no status moves on this set and Defiant can score an Attack boost on Defog or Parting Shot to make its physical attacks stronger. If you do carry Taunt, however, Prankster is acceptable to outprioritize Sableye. A Naive nature is chosen so as not to compromise either offensive stat. Lowering the weaker Special Defense is preferred in this case because the metagame is more physically oriented with priority. Life Orb is the preferred item to grant power with the freedom to switch between attacks. Oblivion Wing's HP replenishment helps to mitigate the recoil. However, Expert Belt, however, is feasible to boost power on super effective hits without any recoil. Lum Berry can also work to absorb a Dark Void once from Sableye, but Thundurus will need to Taunt and with Prankster in order to prevent it from using Dark Void again the following turn.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus is a great cleaner once faster and bulkier threats have been removed, so don't be too overeager with it, especially if the opponent has strong priority or could possibly survive a hit and retaliate for the KO. Otherwise, it can KO Thundurus back with Sucker Punch&mdashif it attacks&mdashor Pursuit&mdashif it switches&mdashafter Stealth Rock and one round of Life Orb damage[Not sure what the error is here, hopefully a GP team member can clarify and fix.]. Use Knock Off on walls to weaken them by removing their item. This is also Thundurus's strongest attack versus Latias and Latios initially, unless the former is holding a Mega Stone. Defiant ignores King Shield's Attack drop, so you don't need to fear that move it when using Knock Off or Superpower on a Steel-type such as Heatran. You can also use Thundurus as a Parting Shot sponge, as most Sableye will use that move it to switch after putting one of your Pokemon to sleep with Dark Void.

Team Options
========

Without any priority, this set is bait for other priority users to come in and inflict status or attack. A Magic Bounce Pokemon to take on Sableye is preferred, and your own Mega Sableye can accomplish this and doesn't even have to fear while not fearing Knock Off. Both Hippowdon and Garchomp can set entry hazards for Thundurus, which helps soften up switch-ins and pressures their Defog users, which must be wary of Defiant. A Pokemon to absorb Ice-type moves from the faster Weavile is also helpful. Heatran does that this very well and can use either of its own Fire or Steel attacks to scare it off. With Volt Switch, Thundurus will often switch before it can heal, so removing Stealth Rock for it is important. Chansey or Stoutland can spin and also Baton Pass into Thundurus as needed. A U-turn user is also a good idea to partner with Thundurus for keeping up your momentum. Choice Band Scizor works and doesn't stack weaknesses with the other teammate recommendations above.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Bolt Strike is Thundurus's strongest STAB attack, and it comes with no drawbacks other than a somewhat shaky accuracy. It also carries a decent chance to paralyze the target. Dragon Ascent is also very strong but carries the downside of dropping Defense and Special Defense by one each afterward. It is preferred over Brave Bird so Thundurus doesn't stack recoil with Life Orb and Stealth Rock damage, and the drops to its defenses aren't too bad considering it's already frail. Knock Off grants power and utility in one move and removes items such as Eviolite on Chansey or Porygon2, allowing Thundurus to follow up with a KO in some instances. Superpower gets hits the Steel-types that are able to sponge its STAB attacks such as Magnezone, [AC] while also hitting Normal-types the hardest. Fusion Bolt is a weaker but perfectly accurate option over Bolt Strike. U-turn grants momentum but isn't very strong and contradicts the set's purpose, which focuses on grabbing Attack boosts and sweeping.

Set Details
========

Defiant is required because it boosts Thundurus's Attack by two any time a stat is lowered by the opponent. Defog, Parting Shot, Intimidate, and King's Shield all activate it. Max Speed is preferred to beat a lot of the metagame that sits under base 111. 252 EVs go into Attack because Thundurus wants to hit hard without worrying about bulk. The remaining 4 EVs can go in either defensive stat. Life Orb grants power but will wear down Thundurus over time, so Leftovers is a viable alternative to slowly recover HP while mitigating Stealth Rock and other residual damage.

Usage Tips
========

While its Thundurus' STAB moves are its most powerful attacks, [RC] . [AP] They can putting immense pressure on the opponent's team and doing the damage most of the time, they both carry risks but they carry a few risks.; [RC] Bolt Strike might let in a threat for free, and Dragon Ascent might may leave Thundurus open to revenging or Pursuit trapping. Knock Off is a great option to use when you don't know what's coming in and you want to remove its item. Superpower will lower Thundurus's Attack and Defense stats, so don't use it unless you need to catch a Steel- or Normal-type, [AC] because it leaves Thundurus vulnerable afterward. Defiant negates King's Shield's Attack drops, so don't fear that move when attacking, but it will not negate self-inflicted drops from Superpower. Try to switch into predicated Defogs, Intimidates, and Parting Shots to get the boost from Defiant.

Team Options
========

Without Leftovers, this set has no HP recovery and will lose 25% upon switching in with Stealth Rock on your side of the field, so bring a Defogger or spinner such as Chansey or Stoutland. Chansey can also pass Wishes and heal Thundurus of any status with Heal Bell. An offensive Grass-type such as Serperior works as well and can puts a lot of pressure on the opponent with Spore and Contrary Leaf Storm. Rotom-W can also handle Gliscor and Hippowdon thanks to Levitate.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Rain Dance sets with Hurricane and Thunder are usable with a Damp Rock and do well on rain teams with Swift Swim Pokemon. Aeroblast hits harder than Oblivion Wing and carries a higher critical hit rate. The HP recovery is missed greatly, however. Grass Knot is highly situational but deals consistent damage to Tyranitar if Focus Blast's accuracy is a turn-off[Lol this sentence made me laugh, for some reason.]. Some Prankster sets can run Feather Dance and/or Eerie Impulse to lower the target's Attack and Special Attack, respectively, but besides being a nuisance they don't do much else. Roost is also an option to put use with Prankster to recover HP quickly, but using it leaves Thundurus vulnerable to Ground attacks, so it should be used carefully. Mirror Move can turn the enemy's attacks back on itself, but it's often too situational to work in the long term. Lastly, Tailwind grants your team double Speed for three turns and can be used to give your slower teammates a strong offensive presence.

Checks and Counters
===================

An offensive spinner like such as Excadrill has good synergy with Thundurus and can help remove Heatran or and Tyranitar. Scrappy Rapid Spin Stoutland and Latios with Defog are also solid entry hazard removal options with an offensive presence.

Thunder Wave lets Thundurus paralyze faster threats such as Aerodactyl or boosting Pokemon setup sweepers such as Mega Scizor or and Togekiss in case they're threatening to sweep your team. It also provides general speed control for your team, giving slower teammates the jump against their foes. Oblivion Wing is the primary Flying-type STAB move of choice for its ability to heal Thundurus while dealing good damage. (You didn't say anything about Thunderbolt...) Together the two moves have good coverage, hitting most of the metagame for at least [At least neutral? That's not really good wording. Saying it hits most of the metagame for neutral damage will suffice.] (No, "at least neutral" is fine imo) neutral damage. Focus Blast hits one of its common checks, Tyranitar, for 4x super effective damage, often OHKOing it, while also doing the most decent damage to Electric-types such as Magnezone and Raikou. Volt Switch can be added to keep up momentum without sacrificing the power Thunderbolt brings. Even with just its STAB attacks, (AC) Thundurus maintains a strong offensive presence, so Taunt adds another layer of utility without sacrificing too much coverage. Lastly, Defog is an option over Thunder Wave or the moves in the last slot if you have no room for another Defogger or spinner on your team[I would put Defog in the set if you're going to talk about it.] (You can talk about a move without slashing it.). The choice comes down to whether checking faster threats or clearing entry hazards is more important to you.

Set Details
========

Special Thundurus prefers to maximize its Speed and dump place the rest of its EVs into Special Attack, so this set is no exception. Prankster is mandatory to use Thunder Wave or Taunt on faster threats. Life Orb is important for getting 2HKOs on targets like such as Heatran and Ferrothorn, but Sharp Beak is useful to power up Oblivion Wing without adding recoil. Leftovers adds more utility (did you mean longevity?) at the cost of dealing less damage. Leftovers generally works best when this set is running utility moves besides just Thunder Wave, (AC) such as Defog, as mitigating Stealth Rock damage then becomes more important.

Usage Tips
========

Most Ground-types in STABmons already take a lot of damage from STAB Oblivion Wing or a coverage attack, so they are not likely to come in to on Thundurus to absorb the attack. Spread paralysis when it's safe to, such as when you predict an opponent the foe is about to set up on you. Don't waste a perfectly healthy Thundurus just to Thunder Wave a faster threat and then die faint, however.

========

Dedicated Knock Off support is helpful to weaken special walls like suc has Chansey and Heatran, which then can no longer rely on Eviolite or Leftovers, respectively. Thunder Wave's ability to cripple fast threats such as Aerodactyl and setup (state the setup move) Mega Scizor can enable some slower Pokemon like such as Heatran to revenge kill them more easily. Heatran can also take the Ice-type attacks aimed at Thundurus while Thundurus tanks can take Fighting-(AH) and ignores Ground-type moves for Heatran. Terrakion provides a dedicated answer to Tyranitar if Thundurus lacks Focus Blast. It also beats enemy Heatran and threatens Defiant users such as Braviary and Bisharp, which may try to absorb Thundurus's Defog.

Moves
========

This set focuses on overpowering the opponent's team with its coverage, both special and physical. (fluff) Oblivion Wing is still the preferred Flying-type STAB move with its reliable damage output and benefit of leeching 75% of the damage dealt as HP recovery. Focus Blast hits off Thundurus's higher Special Attack stat but comes with the risk drawback of poor accuracy. Superpower trades power for better accuracy but also lowers Thundurus's Attack and Defense by one stage each. It is its Thundurus' most reliable attack against Tyranitar, however, whereas Focus Blast risks a miss and then a game of Pursuit / Sucker Punch afterward. Knock Off allows Thundurus to remove Eviolites, Assault Vests, and Leftovers, letting it follow up with a strong attack the next turn for a possible 2HKO. 4 HP / 252 Def Bold Chansey, for example, is KO'd 2HKOed 99% of the time with a the combination of Knock Off and Superpower. Aeroblast may be used over Oblivion Wing for stronger Flying-type STAB move with a greater critical hit rate, but then Thundurus then loses out on HP recovery, (AC) and the constant Life Orb recoil and Stealth Rock damage will wear it down. Taunt is also an option to stop walls that Thundurus can't KO from recovering off damage and stalling it out.

Set Details
========

Defiant is chosen over Prankster because Thundurus has no status moves on this set, (AC) and Defiant can score an Attack boost on Defog or Parting Shot to make its physical attacks stronger. If you do carry Taunt, however, Prankster is acceptable to outprioritize Sableye. A Naive nature is chosen so as not to compromise either offensive stat. Lowering the Thundurus' weaker Special Defense is preferred in this case because the metagame is more physically oriented with priority. Life Orb is the preferred item to grant power with the freedom to switch between attacks. Oblivion Wing's HP replenishment helps to mitigate the recoil. However, Expert Belt, however, is feasible to boost power on super effective hits without any recoil. Lum Berry can also work to absorb a Dark Void once from Sableye, but Thundurus will need Taunt and Prankster in order to prevent it from using Dark Void again the following turn.

Usage Tips
========

Thundurus is a great cleaner once faster and bulkier threats have been removed, so don't be too overeager with it, especially if the foe has strong priority or could possibly survive a hit and retaliate for the KO. Use Volt Switch often to keep up momentum while wearing down the opponent foe. If a Ground-type switches in, your Thundurus' secondary STAB move will hit most of them for lots of damage anyway. Use Oblivion Wing on super effective weak or neutral targets as much as possible to recover HP and when pivoting out with Volt Switch isn't needed. Try to predict a Tyranitar switching in and use Focus Blast or Superpower to KO it. Otherwise, it can KO Thundurus back with Sucker Punch or Pursuit depending on whether Thundurus attacks or switches &mdashif it attacks&mdashor Pursuit&mdashif it switches&mdashafter Stealth Rock and one round of Life Orb damage[Not sure what the error is here, hopefully a GP team member can clarify and fix.] (— creates an emdash in HTML, but not in Markdown, which the dex uses. The writer forgot the colon at the end of — anyway). Use Knock Off on walls to weaken them by removing their item. This is also Thundurus's strongest attack versus Latias and Latios initially, unless the former is holding a Mega Stone Latiasite.

========

Without any priority, this set is bait for other priority users to come in and inflict status or attack. A Magic Bounce Pokemon to take on Sableye is preferred, and your own Mega Sableye can accomplish this and doesn't even have to fear while not fearing Knock Off. Both Hippowdon and Garchomp can set entry hazards for Thundurus, which helps soften up switch-ins and pressures their Defog users, which must be wary of Defiant. A Pokemon to absorb Ice-type moves from the faster Weavile is also helpful. Heatran does that this very well and can use either of its own Fire or Steel attacks to scare it off out.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Bolt Strike is Thundurus's strongest STAB attack, and it comes with no drawbacks other than a somewhat shaky accuracy. It also carries a decent chance to paralyze the target. Superpower gets hits the Steel-types that are able to sponge its STAB attacks, (AC) such as Magnezone, [AC] while also hitting Normal-types the hardest. Fusion Bolt is a weaker but perfectly accurate option over Bolt Strike. U-turn grants momentum but isn't very strong and contradicts the set's purpose, which focuses on grabbing Attack boosts and sweeping.

Set Details
========

Defiant is required because it boosts Thundurus's Attack by two stages any time a stat is lowered by the opponent foe.

Usage Tips
========

While its Thundurus' STAB moves are its most powerful attacks can putting immense pressure on the opponent's team and doing the heavy damage most of the time, they both carry risks but they carry a few risks.; [RC] Bolt Strike might let in a threat for free, and Dragon Ascent might leave Thundurus open to revenging revenge killing or Pursuit trapping. Knock Off is a great option to use when you don't know what's coming in and you want to remove its item. Superpower will lower Thundurus's Attack and Defense stats, so don't use it unless you need to catch a Steel- or Normal-type, [AC] because as it leaves Thundurus vulnerable afterward. Defiant negates King's Shield's Attack drops, so don't fear that move when attacking, but it will not negate self-inflicted drops from Superpower. Try to switch into predicated Defogs, Intimidates, and Parting Shots to get the boost from Defiant.

Team Options
========

An offensive Grass-type such as Serperior works as well and can puts a lot of pressure on the opponent opposing team with Spore and Contrary Leaf Storm. Rotom-W can also handle Gliscor and Hippowdon thanks to Levitate.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Some Prankster sets can run Feather Dance and/or (pick one) Eerie Impulse to lower the target's Attack and Special Attack, respectively, but besides being a nuisance, (AC) they don't do much else. Roost is also an option to put use with Prankster to recover HP quickly, but using it leaves Thundurus vulnerable to Ground attacks, so it should be used carefully. Mirror Move can turn the enemy's foe's attacks back on itself, but it's often too situational to work in the long term. Lastly, Tailwind grants your team double Speed for three turns and can be used to give your slower teammates a strong offensive presence.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Assault Vest Thundurus-T is one of the best checks to Thundurus because it's immune to Electric-type attacks with due to Volt Absorb and resists Thundurus's Flying-type STAB moves, as well as its and common coverage moves such as Superpower, Focus Blast, and Grass Knot.

**Ice-types**: Ice-type Pokemon also threaten Thundurus. (redundant) Weavile outspeeds Thundurus and KOes it with Icicle Crash.

They work as soft checks that can tank a few hits and retaliate with a strong Stone Edge, Psystrike/ or Draco Meteor, or Blue Flare, (AC) respectively. Knock Off reduces the effectiveness of the latter two as checks, however.

Luka~, I used some of your stuff, and I appreciate the effort you put into this, but I have a couple of recommendations to improve your checks.
  1. When making subjective (aka technical) changes, make sure they're completely necessary to improve sentence structure, reduce repetition, or make the analysis more readable. A lot of the subjective changes you made were not completely necessary to make the sentence better. In other words, don't change just to change.
  2. Don't cut long sentences into two if you don't have to. While sentences shouldn't be outrageously long, the ones that you split up didn't need to be broken. In fact, cutting a long-but-not-too-long sentence can often stifle the flow of it, so be sure to break it up only if it's a run-on or something similar.

The combination of Flying and Electric is weak to only only to [Reads better in formal writing.]Rock and Ice, is immune to Ground attacks, and resists common types such as Steel and Flying. It can even runs mixed and fully physical sets incredibly well, which take advantage of its second ability, Defiant.

These strengths are impeded by a vulnerability to one of the most common revenge killing tactics in STABmons, Fake Out + Extreme Speed, which both can hit Thundurus before it can fire off launch a single attack. It also struggles against bulky attackers that can tank a hit and retaliate with a super effective attack or even a strong neutral one. This also means that Thundurus must be careful when switching in, as it doesn't invest in bulk and its base defenses are nothing stellar[ Beefed up the vocabulary here to match your use of "stellar", I like it.] (Snobalt was here; good idea on paper, but it actually made the sentence worse).

It also shuts down Prankster Sableye before it can status cripple Thundurus with a status condition or reverse its boosts with Topsy-Turvy. Oblivion Wing is Thundurus's best option for a Flying STAB move because it has a solid 80 base power Base Power and recovers 75% of the damage dealt to the target, which keeps Thundurus healthy after HP loss from Stealth Rock and Life Orb recoil. Thunderbolt is Thundurus's most reliable Electric STAB move and, (AC) together with Flying Oblivion Wing gives great neutral coverage, hitting Steel- and Rock-types such as Heatran, Aegislash, and Tyranitar, which resist Flying, for high damage after a Nasty Plot boost[Sentence was a bit too long, shortened it and made the point more clear.] (It wasn't unreasonably long imo).

Set Details
========

Prankster is integral to this set for using Taunt on Sableye before it can status cripple Thundurus with a status ailment. Maximum Speed is run to outpace all Pokemon under base 111 Speed, and 252 EVs go into Special Attack to hit as hard as possible. The leftover 4 can go in either defensive stat. Life Orb powers up Thundurus's attacks while bringing inflicting recoil, which is mitigated by Oblivion Wing's healing. However, Leftovers is notable a noteworthy choice for reducing residual damage, (AC) and it won't wear down Thundurus with recoil when attacking with Oblivion Wing isn't an option.

Usage Tips
========

Setting up Nasty Plot puts immediate pressure on the opponent opposing team, so you should use it to cause heavy damage to soft checks, (AC) such as Heatran, (AC) with Thunderbolt after it switches in. Plus Moreover, setting up will draw in Fake Out + Extreme Speed users, so getting in your own check to those, such as Landorus-T or Ferrothorn, will preserve Thundurus and keep up your momentum. But be warned: common Fake Out + Extreme Speed users often have Belly Drum and can capitalize on Thundurus's switch by setting up, so outright attacking may prevent their sweep if you lack an Unaware partner. Generally, (AC) you want Thundurus to Taunt any walls that come in, such as Chansey, so that they can't impede its sweep and you can use them as setup bait while they struggle to do much in return. Faster threats may keep Thundurus from setting up early-(AH)game, so remove removing Aerodactyl and Weavile will ensure that so you don't waste a turn setting up only to get forced out.

Team Options
========

All three of those Pokemon can also set Stealth Rock, which helps break down Pokemon that Thundurus can't normally 2HKO (such as?). Additionally, Thundurus's Taunt prevents Defoggers from removing the entry hazards. A Pokemon that resists Ice is also important because Weavile outspeeds Thundurus and threatens to OHKO it (I think) with Icicle Crash. Choice Band Scizor doesn't mind Ice-types and threatens them with its own Steel-type STAB moves. Scizor also can bring in Thundurus safely on with a slow U-turn. Even though it recovers lost HP with Oblivion Wing, Thundurus still appreciates having Stealth Rock removed. An offensive spinner like such as Excadrill has good synergy with Thundurus and can help remove Heatran or and Tyranitar. Scrappy Rapid Spin Stoutland and Latios with Defog are also solid entry hazard removal options with an offensive presence.

Taunt is also an option to stop walls that Thundurus can't KO from recovering off damage and stalling it out.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Without any priority, this set is bait for other priority users to come in and inflict status or attack. A Magic Bounce Pokemon to take on Sableye is preferred, and your own Mega Sableye can accomplish this and doesn't even have to fear while not fearing Knock Off.

Moves
========

Bolt Strike is Thundurus's strongest STAB attack, and it comes with no drawbacks other than a somewhat shaky accuracy. It also carries a decent chance to paralyze the target.

Set Details
========

Defiant is required because it boosts Thundurus's Attack by two stages any time a stat is lowered by the opponent foe.

Usage Tips
========

========

An offensive Grass-type such as Serperior works as well and can puts a lot of pressure on the opponent opposing team with Spore and Contrary Leaf Storm. Rotom-W can also handle Gliscor and Hippowdon thanks to Levitate.

Other Options
=============

===================

**Ice-types**: Ice-type Pokemon also threaten Thundurus. (redundant) Weavile outspeeds Thundurus and KOes it with Icicle Crash.

GP 2/2
Hopefully you don't mind me asking, but why did you add Thundurus' in some places and Thundurus's in others? In one place, I even saw you removed the "s" off of Thundurus's, making it Thundurus'. From what I know, you're supposed to use 's at the end of every Pokemon's name, even if it ends with an "s." (Metagross's, etc.)

EDIT: Found the "rule" in the Spelling and Grammar Standards
  • Always append 's to a noun when signifying a singular possessive (Latias's Soul Dew) or plural possessive that doesn't end in s (Lucario's Swords Dance), and simply a ' when signifying a plural possessive for a word that ends in s (All Latios' Draco Meteor).
