[LLAMA Semi-finals 2.0] Maxim v S0L1D G0LD

Lore, Legends And More Action Tournament

Guess what! You guys are getting some ref flavor after all! Oh joy.
Anyways, I don't think I need to tell you what the stakes are. You already know, and if you don't, you can look around for the other thread. Winner gets a 40-move strongmon, loser gets nada. Winner continues their search for Deoxys/Regigigas, loser cries. Winner moves on to fight the very best of ASB's bestest, loser gets to watch. On to the teams!

BATTLE RULES
3v3 Singles
Enforced 2 Day DQ Time for players, 3 for referees.
Each player has one DQ warning a match. Go over once, you will use your warning. Go over twice, you will be DQed. This will be at the discretion of the player or one of the hosts if the player takes too long. Referees going over DQ will probably be sacked and replaced.
Infinite Recoveries/Chills per Pokémon.
Three Substitutions per player excluding KO Substitutions.
One Mega Evolution
Switch = OK
Abilities = ALL
Items = ON; you do not have to have the item in possession but the item must not be banned, similar to SICK (Banned Items: Soul Dew, Dark Stone, Light Stone, Diancite, Prison Bottle).
Arena: ASB Tournament Arena
If there are matches still going on come Saturday the 12th of September at Midnight (GMT +00:00), then the DQ Times of those matches will shorten to 1 Day Player, 1 Day Referee.

I'd be especially weary of Gimle the Metagross on Maxim's side, since it can match up relatively well with all three of Gold's mons, except for Kaliso the Pyr--wait. Great time to break up the old Deoxys/Mawile/Pyroak gang, Gold. Also, Gimle is Maxim's best bet at countering Gold's Dragonite, especially with a little help in the form of Stealth Rock breaking Dragonite's Multiscale. Speaking of rocks, guess who can lay those too? Yup, Gimle the Metagross.

Side note: guess what move is only learned by one mon in Maxim's team?

You probably already know that I love to talk about Mega Mawile in this space. And sure, it seems like a pretty good counter to Maxim's Regigigas, so I'll give it an honorable mention. However, the star of the show should be Giygas the Deoxys, he of the mighty 98/99 attacking stats. If in Attack Mode (which I'm sure we'll see plenty of) and holding a Focus Band (which I bet will be Gold's item of choice), Deoxys could really do a number on Maxim's team. Let's just say there's not a lot that Deoxys can't kill in two rounds.

Follow-up to the trivia question from earlier: guess what move is crucial when facing a mon with 7/8/173 attacking stats that relies 1000% on its item to stay alive? This thing might very well come down to whether Gold can keep Deoxys away from Heavenbringer's mean Knock Off.

Man...I feel like I'm being baited so hard, but I get the feeling Regigigas isn't going to be quite as vital this match. Also, this item probably won't help much, but anything else isn't really going to help either so whatever.

w/Quick Claw
"The Heavens Tremble at my Approach!"

"GO HEAVENBRINGER! WE BELIEVE IN YOU."

"AS THE EARTH MOVES, CRUSH THIS INFIDEL."

"WE MUST WIN."

Thunder Wave~Knock Off~Payback
If Taunt OR Substitute A1, then push actions forward and use Stomp A3.
If non-consecutive P/E move, then use Substitute (15 HP) the first instance and Block the second.

I'm not going to complain, but I'm quite displeased at being tagged this soon after my return.

Magic Coat - Low Kick - Counter

If you are paralyzed when you would act a1, use Psycho Shift that action.
If Regigigas's Quick Claw activates a3, use Low Kick that action.

BEGIN ROUND 1!

You know what? I've always preferred to leave the tricks for subs and for second order, and just going ham when ordering first. I feel like if you do your fancy stuff when ordering first there's just too many ways that you can get screwed over and not enough subs to prevent that. But that's just me. On to the battle!!

Maxim's Heavenbringer, equipped with a rather unusual item choice, makes the most of it by surprising Giygas and moving first! Not bad for a mon with Slow Start. However, Giygas has other plans, as he capitalizes by using its psychic prowess to not only heal itself from paralysis, but inflict it on Heavenbringer! Now faster, Giygas delivers a devastating blow onto its legendary counterpart, who retaliates by taking away that which Deoxys prizes the most: its item. Heavenbringer now prepares to deliver a vicious strike onto the itemless Giygas, but finds that the alien is bracing itself instead of attacking. Its opponent's blow now severely weakened, Deoxys ends the round by countering with full force. It seems Gold has taken full advantage of ordering second by exploiting a lot of Maxim's orders. However, he still didn't get to preserve Deoxys' Focus Band, which should prove pivotal as Maxim now prepares for ordering second. On Maxim's side, things certainly could be better, as his legendary is now paralyzed and even slower than it was in the first place. All is not lost, however, as he only has to burn two more actions to gain a juicy Rank 8 Attack, and he gets the precious second order. As slow as this round was (especially when your battlers both have Rank 8 attacking stats and one of them has R1 defenses ffs), it wouldn't surprise me if we get our first KO next round. This is still anyone's match.

Still, it wouldn't have hurt to have a Focus Band now, right?

Anyways, the battle's second round gives us a legendary clash of titans! Sort of. Just try to look past Heavenbringer's Attack stat, which is the same as the mighty Krabby.

Maxim was right when he said that this round hinged on a lot of 20% rolls. Had one or two of them gone differently, his golem could still be at 62HP right now, or it could've simply fainted without even touching Deoxys. In reality tho, hax was thankfully absent as Maxim lined up a monster combination (with 81% accuracy... see what I meant about all those 20% rolls?) and managed to knock out Gold's Deoxys! Even better, the five actions' worth of Slow Start are mercifully over, and he now gets to swing around that mighty Rank 8 Attack! Cower in fear!

...as soon as he cools down. In reality, both battlers are now pretty much where we started, having basically traded their respective legends. At least Maxim now gets to order second against whatever Gold sends in to finish off the Regi, and he also earned himself the first KO of the match (which is the same amount of KO's Frosty and EM have gotten so far smh). As for Gold, this is pretty much where he stood last round, staring down a cooling down opponent after losing Deoxys just a bit too early. At least the hole he's in is much, much shallower.

BEGIN ROUND 4!
---
Welp, I'll be honest here. I'm not sure what Maxim is planning .-.
Sure, he managed to set up Stealth Rock on the opposing field, break Dragonite's Multiscale AND burn Gold's Dragonite. But in doing so he allowed his Pyroak to take a ton of damage, plus the convenient fact that it must now cool down whenever it comes back out. And while having SR up on Gold's side of the field should help take care of Dragonite, he dealt pretty pitiful damage. I guess he's putting all of his eggs in the Metagross basket, which isn't a bad basket to put your eggs on in the slightest. I'd say that Gold has the advantage for the moment, but a well-played Gimle could change that in a second.
