Everyone knows how every team has its threats, but only as individual mons. This project looks to look a bit further and see how certain mons that work together, in other words a core, can break/destroy a team. This can help fine tune teams in order to prevent them from getting destroyed by a simple core. Without further ado, here are the rules.

1. Each week I'll pick a team and during the week (Monday through Friday), everyone can submit a core that they think is the most threatening to that team. In other words, what core they think destroys the selected team.

2. Cores can have 2 or 3 mons, and sets as well as at least 2 lines of explanation will be required as to how that core destroys the team for that week.

3. After the week has passed, we will have the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) to let everyone vote for the core that they believe is the most threatening to the team. Each person will be allowed 2 votes.

4. Winner will be placed in the Hall of Fame with their core.

5. Good luck, have fun, and most importantly NO STUPID ONE LINERS :)

Are there any rules about trapping? I could just pick HP Fire Gothitelle to get rid of both Ferrothorn and Clefable and add something like Suicune or Glare Serperior to beat the offensive part of the team. Same with Magnezone and Pursuit although those are smaller problems.

Talonflame @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance
- Roost

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Recover
Here is the core but with SD on Talonflame instead of U-Turn. Even though this team doesn't give Talonflame many setup opportunities, it can threaten pokemon like Ferrothorn and Keldeo with a ohko and use that turn to set up a SD and OHKO every pokemon. The only way this team can prevent a sweep is to keep the offensive pressure and let Talonflame die to recoil damage. Gastrodon helps here because it is able to beat both Metagross (lacks GK) and Landorus-T. It can win 1v1 against Latias if it recovers against the draco and keldeo gets hit by toxic because it lacks Substitute, which means it is quickly worn down by Life Orb + Toxic.

If you think a trapper core is the best core that can break this team, then go for it :)

Zard-X + Gengar

+

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
- Dragon Dance

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 29 HP / 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Sludge Wave
- Thunderbolt / Icy Wind

Both Zard-X and Gengar are huge threats to the core as there is nothing in the team to stomach their powerful hits.

Against Gengar, the team's most reliable method of defeating it is to lock Scarf Landorus into Knock Off, which means it gives set-up opportunity for Zard-X (Stone Edge doesn't KO Gengar). Otherwise, the team have to rely on Latias or Mega Metagross to Speed tie. Metagross also loses to Zard-X, leaving Latias which is not too difficult to trap or wear down. Zard-X also gets rid of Ferrothorn and can eat up it's Gyro Balls.

Against Zard-X, the team has Keldeo, Latias and Scarf Landorus to outspeed it. However, they are all outsped and OHKOed by +1 Dragon Claw or Flare Blitz. Furthermore, Gengar carries Thunderbolt to OHKO Keldeo or Icy Wind to lure Landorus, again leaving Latias as the sole answer. This causes the team to risk a Speed tie against Gengar. While Latias can potentially beat Zard-X with Draco Meteor, it allows Gengar a ticket to wreck the team with it's STAB moves. Gengar also has Sludge Wave in case Clefable tries to be funny and try to Thunder Wave the core.

Serperior + Talonflame (lol serperior alone destroys this whole team)

+

The team has zero switch ins for Serperior, and its only way of handling it is trying to revenge it with Scarf Landorus-T (which does only about 70% max, ggwp). Talonflame can set up on Ferrothorn and Landorus-T can't handle a +2 Brave Bird well, which paves the way for Serperior to clean the whole team. Talonflame is really dangerous to the whole team by itself, as well.

Serperior @ Life Orb
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe

- Dragon Pulse

Alakazam @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Encore / Taunt

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Pursuit / Poison Jab

Weavile's a nightmare for this core to face, as it beats up Mega Metagross, Latias, Landorus-T, and weakens Ferrothorn considerably, but struggles against Keldeo and Clefable. Alakazam helps considerably by beating Keldeo, and crippling Clefable immensely via Encore or Taunt, weakening it with Psychic so that Weavile can sweep more easily. Poison Jab on Weavile is an option to ease the burden on Alakazam.

Banned deucer.
Possibly the most aids core I've seen in oras outside of sheddy garbage

Suicune is pretty much capable of tackling this entire team apart from Ferrothorn, which Sableye beats completely. It just shrugs off some of the most powerful hits from this team including Latias' Draco, MGross' ZenButt and even +1 Keldeo's Secret Sword and sets up on anything bar Ferro. It can roar out Clefable or just PP stall it, which it wins because of Pressure and as long as it doesn't get critted by +6 Moonblast, it beats it. Sableye also helps against certain wallbreakers capable of powering their way through Suicune such as MegaCham and it helps against Electrics.
Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Careful Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Knock Off
- Foul Play

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk / Roar

Beedrill+Weavile

Weavile is a real threat to this team with some uturn and anti fairy support. Its faster than the whole team and hits most of the team hard with knock off.
So Beedrill is a nice partner for Weavile. It plays similarly to Manectric as a mon to bring in grounds for Weavile to wreck. Mane is better most of the time but there is no skarm, talon or scizor on the other team so it's not needed and Beedrill has a few perks that are very relevant against this team.
Bee beats Clef which is good for Weavile and Poison Jab also does a nice chunk to Keldeo (66.2 - 78%) and drill run 2hkos metagross. Also it can gain momentum against lando more reliably than mane too. Beedrill is annoying since the only mons that want to switch in are easy to wear down (scarf landt, shed shell Ferro) and lose to Weavile if it comes in on mega bee uturn.

The core is weak to rocks, but they both pressure the teams potential rocker so if you are smart you won't need a spin often against this team.

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick

Beedrill @ Beedrillite
Ability: Swarm
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Protect
- Poison Jab
- Drill Run

Mega Scizor + Slowbro

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 44 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- Roost

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 236 Def / 24 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off

Each of these two pokemon alone already wall a very large portion of the team. Slowbro walls Metagross, Keldeo and Landorus-T, while Clefable needs Thunderbolt (and can still lose a CM war), Latias can't win a straight up 1v1 scenario and Ferrothorn's kinda helpless if it gets Scald burned. Scizor sets up on the entire team except Keldeo which is why Slowbro makes a good partner here.

Both are bulky setup sweepers as simply walling this team isn't going to do much good in the long run if you can't finish the members off. Calm Mind Slowbro allows it to more reliably beat Clefable and Latias as well as Ferrothorn if it can achieve a burn. Burns from Keldeo and T-Wave from Clefable are this team's best chances to weaken and defeat this core.

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 16 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Roost

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Roost
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock

Mega Scizor + Latios just murder this team. Bulky SD Mega Scizor sets up on Latias, Clefable, Mega Metagross, Landorus-T, and Ferrothorn. With Superpower, you can beat Mega Metagross, or Ferrothorn after some boosts and for Keldeo, you have Latios with Roost. Latios loses to scarf Lando-T, Clefable, and Mega Metagross, so Scizor is there for it. The team just gets demolished by Bulky SD Superpower Mega Scizor in general, the only check to it being Keldeo, which Latios handles fairly well.

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Charizard-Mega-Y @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin/Swords Dance

This double weather core is a real pain to face with this team. Latias and Metagross can be Pursuit trapped and killed by Tyranitar (the latter needs some previous damage to be dispatched for good but is easily taken care of by Excadrill). With Latias gone, Charizard can punch holes in the team as none of the remaining pokemon like to switch in to him. The lack of Substitute on Keldeo and Clefable's weakness to Iron Head means that no Pokemon on the team can take advantage of a choice locked Tyranitar, so Excadrill can come in and 2HKO the remaining members. Keldeo and Landorus are very shaky checks to this core as the former can be worn down by the combination of Sand + Life Orb recoil and revenged by Excadrill; the latter is 2HKOed by Excadrill if Stealth Rocks are up.
