been hyping up opm since it got announced and it was even better than i expected hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng

also i disagree about the dream feeling out of place... the whole ep was showing us how OP Saitama was and how he really does want a real fight. ever since his first fight, he didnt have the same ''fire'' in his eyes (being excited during a fight). Him dreaming about it just shows how much he wants a real fight IMO.

also GENOS HYPE

First Impressions Time! (For most of what I plan to watch anyway, Gochuumon Season 2 I will also watch but that's on Saturday so blah, and Noragami as well though I'll wait and see if that's getting a broadcast dub or not, cause I actually watched the first season dubbed):

Yuru Yuri SanHai: Really funny like it used to be. But the art style is a bit off-putting to say the least. Sure it looks pretty good and I can finally tell that Yui has black hair, but I sort of prefer Dogakoba's bright and colorful design to this rather realistic one. Aside from that, not much different from the older Yuru Yuri seasons.

Komari-san: The girl who can't say no, apparently. Really mediocre show that never really made me laugh. Also, boob and bathroom jokes. Just why?

Hakone-chan: Surprisingly a short and not full like I expected. The title character is cute and this show does give me some laughs but other than that not too special. Also, another boob joke. Really?

Osomatsu-san: What a way to troll your audience am I right? Anyways, the main hook to this is that Yoichi Fujita, the person who directed Binbougami ga! (Which I fucking loved by the way) is directing this too. Basically, characters from an old 60's anime try to their hardest to appeal to modern audiences, and its hilarious. (As much as I would scream AOTS, this show could go anywhere after this point) References galore like the previously mentioned Binbougami ga!.

One Punch Man: The hype was real. Despite being about a guy who can kill anyone in one blow they still manage to make it entertaining. By making it surreal as fuck. There's a guy who takes a mass amount of steroids and becomes a titan.

Concrete Revolutio:
In all seriousness though, this show is far more drug-induced than the last two. A guy with pink hair finds a witch who can summon cartoon clouds and change places with fucking mannequins, has a car that can become a mecha, and there's also a Megazord-thing that infuses with a human or something. I don't know, but I'd prefer at least a bit more backstory. (One Punch Man and even Osomatsu (In the form of the black and white scenes) managed to have one and they're nearly as drugged as this show)

Now, gonna watch something to cleanse my brain from the madness it just endured. (Maybe Gochuumon because its second season is coming out you know)

honestly super surprised by how good comet lucifer episode 1 was, this has potential to be absolutely fantastic - even with 8bits track record. it has a very Disney Treasure Planet feel to it with a more anime flair of course, and the sound editing / animation is just so crisp... also its an anime original! check this one out!

early thoughts

Concrete Revolutio: this was a mess but kind of enjoyable, will probably continue to watch

Comet Lucifer: kinda formulaic starting episode, not enough to judge so far

Asterisk and Rakudai Kishi: pretty amazing how similar these are
Rakudai Kishi is way better though since the male lead is an actual character

OPman: amazing

Lances and Masks: average to bad LN adaption but the artstyle was particularly unpleasant

Hackadoll: there was a decent joke or two in the 7 minutes, overall not worthwhile

Owarimonogatari: really good, I'm hoping the first episode was going where I think it is

Utawarerumono: this was a pleasant surprise, really liked the female lead and the process of MC getting used to his new environment

Concrete Revolutio is the Punch Line of this season, calling it now.

Utawarerumono has a lot of potential imo (take these words with a grain of salt tho, as I'm a secondary who's never played the VN or watched the alternative version, but it had a solid first episode and a beautiful trailer so I think it's fine to form an opinion based on that)

OPM is just as good as the hype made it seem, which made me really happy. I'd like to thank everyone who hyped it here

Everything else I'm watching (which isn't much) was too generic for me to form a solid opinion on (still need to watch Comet Lucifer and Gundam tho)

The perfect insider gave me really strong vibes, really excited to see where it goes. It and (to a lesser extent) sakurako-san both had really strong openings, hope the actual mystery stuff stays interesting and doesn't end up in a hyouka-esque drag. Other than those two I'm watching OPM, debating about whether to watch or play utawarerumono first, and will probably get to owarimonogatari eventually.

As of tomorrow I'm planning on watching the Monogatari series so I can get to Owarimonogatari. (Second Season will take me the longest to get through because of the 26 episodes but I want to at least get the previous seasons finished before Owari reaches the 1/5 mark)

Also, if any of you want to know how to watch Monogatari, this reddit thread is pretty useful. (Explains the chronological order as well if anyone wants to watch it that way):
https://www.reddit.com/r/araragi/comments/1mezh0/the_orders_to_monogatari/

(Plus picked up Perfect Insider and Sakurako-san; The second though I'm worried about a bit, the male MC is an annoying idiot who whines about shrimp, though Sakurako herself seems like a pretty fun character, at least for a LN adaptation (I think that's what it is); I'm pretty damn skeptical of the former, I don't know WHERE it will go)

May pick up the following as well:
That new Gundam (Do I HAVE to watch the previous Gundams or is it okay if this is my first Gundam)
Comet Lucifer (The female MC (IIRC) looks too much like Shiro from No Game No Life tho)
Not much else I can remember though. (Aside from 2nd seasons, BTW I still have Noragami S2 on my watching but haven't watched a single episode, and likely won't until if they announce it there will be a broadcast dub for it oor not)

grisaia no kajitsu has a pretty clean translation apparently. i found it kinda enjoyable, but it's not really memorable aside from mc, sachi and angelic howl imo. it's pretty expensive in comparison to ifmhw though if you plan on getting it through steam

rewrite has no official localization (which is also true for like 60% or so of english translated vns, so i'll be mentioning those a lot), but it's my favourite japanese work of fiction (even though it does have some glaring flaws and doesn't really fit everyone's taste)

higurashi and unimeko by ryukishi07 are acclaimed a lot, but i've read neither so i won't comment on them. feel free to check those out though

fate/stay night goes without saying, but from what i've heard, a lot of what nasu writes is lost in translation (i'll let vonfiedler comment on this if he wants to tho, as he's more well versed about the fate franchise). heaven's feel is bonkers though

saya no uta is nice and short, especially if you're into urubutcher's style

steins;gate is one of those cases where the anime does a flawless job covering everything that happens already, but you can still play it out of curiosity, as it is equally good and has alternative endings that are definitely worth checking if you've enjoyed the anime

key vns for feels (planeterian is the only one available on steam), with little busters being the best out of the pack (although kanon began the whole "boy finds girls and helps them solving their problems" thing that a lot of current anime use, but its old artstyle is a huge turnoff. thanks god kyoani did a stellar adaptation of it)

this should cover most "baby's first visual novels" i think (this doesn't mean they're subpar though, it's simply that what's translated is just the tip of a huge iceberg)

Zero Escape series is godly. Don't forget the Ace Attorney series either!

Also agreeing with the above on Umineko. The manga is also really great and I highly recommend it. The anime is bad though. Don't watch it.

I don't think very much is lost in translation, mirror-moon just aren't good writers. And Nasu is more of a Dostoevsky than a Joyce to begin with. So expect an amazing story with sometimes murky wording and you'll get a lot out of it.

Adding to the list, To The Moon may be seen as cheating but it's legit one of the best VN's out there. Makes me cry everytime.

Hatoful Boyfriend is silly as shit but should be played for just that reason. The fact that the story actually picks up and goes somewhere is a major plus as well.

I guess a lot of people like Dangan Ronpa and that has an official translation with a sequel. It was worth playing but imo the ending was a letdown. Play Ace Attorney first and then move onto this if you need more court battles.

RODAN i'm 8 episodes into rokka no yuusha and a lot of the decisions from the main cast make very little sense - is the ending spectacular enough to make up for that and the dip in animation quality from episode 4 onward or am i going to be disappointed

if you dont enjoy it by now, it probably wont get any better for you. it is entirely a preference thing

i do like it, in particular i love the character design - i'm more just nitpicking about how thoroughly these characters are investigating. the show is extremely good at leaving the viewer always wanting to know next, i'll give it that

Fate and Ever17 are good (if slow) but pretty much everyone knows them already

Muv-Luv Alternative: has a boatload of issues, the biggest of which is two really bad prequels (most of the content in Extra is fluff and it can be fairly safely skipped, thankfully) but the emotional rollercoaster and the highs and lows it hits are absolutely amazing, it's one of those rare works that left me feeling drained for a day or two after finishing it. Very strongly recommended if you can get over the problems it has.

Saya no Uta: nice, creepy, and also very short, unlike most VNs. Probably Urobochi's (writer of Madoka and Fate/Zero) best known work before he started doing anime.

Kikokugai: about a master of the sword fighting the cyborg warrior mafia. Also by Urobochi, and like Saya it's quite short.

Umineko: weird and very unique, I can't think of anything that it's particularly similar to though I'm far from a mystery buff. It's one of those things that's hard to talk about it much without spoiling but it ultimately doesn't quite end up living up to its premise, the ride there is fun and very long though (also amazing soundtrack).

Sengoku Rance: less a VN and more of a SRPG, great sense of humor if you're not easily offended and Rebirth the Edge is one of my favorite pieces of music in pretty much anything.
