Braviary

QC: Spirit / Molk / -kal-
GP: Snobalt / The Dutch Plumberjack

[OVERVIEW]

Braviary finds its place in RU as a good physical attacker with solid neutral coverage on the metagame and decent bulk that is capable of taking on a couple of different roles, such as a sweeper and revenge killer. Defiant allows Braviary to take advantage of not only Intimidate users, such as Granbull and Qwilfish, but also Defog users such as Flygon, making it a good choice for Sticky Web and other entry hazard-reliant teams. Unfortunately, Braviary is a bit lacking in the Speed department; many common offensive threats such as Mega Glalie, Meloetta, and Rotom-C can outpace Braviary if it's not carrying a Choice Scarf. To make things worse, it has trouble breaking through prominent Rock- and Steel-types such as Tyrantrum and Mega Steelix as well as tough physical walls such as Alomomola, all of which are fairly common in the current RU metagame. Many Pokemon can take a hit from Braviary and retaliate with ease, especially from the Choice Scarf set. Moreover, Braviary is not a very consistent Pokemon due to its subpar Speed and susceptibility to residual damage, and its low number of resistances can make it hard for many players to incorporate Braviary into their teams.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Substitute mainly shields Braviary from status moves such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp while also easing prediction. Bulk Up boosts Braviary's Attack and Defense, preparing it for a sweep and making it harder to break. Roost offers a reliable form of recovery, healing off damage taken from Substitute, Brave Bird, and opposing attacks. Brave Bird is the preferred STAB move for this set, attaining good coverage on the metagame, and unlike Return, no Pokemon are immune to it. If Braviary's team has Pursuit support or another reliable way of dealing with Ghost-types, Return can be used in place of Brave Bird, as it hits Jolteon and Eelektross neutrally and doesn't wear Braviary down with recoil damage; however, it is noticeably weaker than Brave Bird.

Set Details
========

Leftovers lets Braviary recover a bit of health every turn and helps to make up for the HP lost from using Substitute and Brave Bird. Maximum HP investment is used so that Registeel can't break Braviary's Substitute with Seismic Toss. 88 EVs in Speed let Braviary outrun uninvested Golbat and Meloetta, as well as neutral-natured Clawitzer and Scrafty. Running 164 Speed EVs is also an option if you want Braviary to get the jump on maximum Speed Scrafty and Omastar as well as neutral-natured Exploud. The rest of the EVs go into Special Defense alongside a Careful nature, which allows Braviary to set up on weaker special attackers such as Amoonguss, Aromatisse, Seismitoad, and Alomomola, as well as take some hits from special attackers looking to revenge kill it.

Usage Tips
========

This set's primary goal is to break through most balance cores. Braviary should aim to set up on passive Pokemon such as Alomomola, Amoonguss, and Aromatisse, though you should try not to directly switch into the former two, as they might use a status move and cripple Braviary before it can do anything. Do not begin setting up if the opponent is carrying phazers such as Rhyperior and Mega Steelix. In practice, all Rock-, Electric-, Steel-, and Ice-types should be KOed, weakened, or crippled in some way before attempting a sweep. Braviary can also stall out low-PP moves such as Stone Edge with the combination of Substitute and Roost. Try to keep Braviary away from sound-based moves from the likes of Exploud, Meloetta, Chatot, and Aurorus, as they hit through Substitute. Additionally, it's a good idea, though not mandatory, to remove Stealth Rock from the playing field before attempting a sweep.

Team Options
========

Ground-types such as Rhyperior, Quagsire, and Torterra can take out the Rock-, Steel-, and Electric-types such as Tyrantrum, Mega Steelix, and Jolteon that hinder Braviary's ability to sweep. Clerics such as Aromatisse and Mega Audino can give Braviary a second chance to sweep if it gets afflicted with a status condition. Likewise, Healing Wish support from Pokemon such as Mesprit can change the tide of a game, giving Braviary a second chance to sweep if it was crippled earlier in the match. Qwilfish, Omastar, Drapion, and Weezing can set up Toxic Spikes, which works in combination with Substitute and Roost to wear down and stall out slower Pokemon such as Rhyperior. Stealth Rock may prevent Braviary from switching in to sweep, so entry hazard removers, such as Hitmonlee and Flygon, generally pair well with it. Hitmonlee and Flygon can also check Rock- and Steel-types, and Flygon is also able to switch into and threaten Electric-types such as Jolteon. Grass-types such as Tangrowth and Rotom-C can also handle Rock- and Electric-types while being able to OHKO Quagsire, which otherwise walls this set due to Unaware. Mega Abomasnow is in a similar boat, as it can check Jolteon and nail Water-types with its Grass-type STAB moves. Bulky Water-types such as Seismitoad, Gastrodon, Alomomola, and Slowking can burn or weaken most of Braviary's checks. Other Flying-types, such as Fletchinder and Chatot, can wear down Braviary's counters with the right coverage moves and set the stage for a late-game sweep.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Brave Bird is Braviary's most powerful STAB move and attains solid coverage on the RU metagame. Return should be used when Braviary can't afford to take recoil damage or when against an Electric-type such as Eelektross. Superpower is nice for nailing Rock- and Steel-types such as Rhyperior and Mega Steelix on the switch, wearing them down for later in the match. U-turn is an excellent momentum grabber and doubles as a useful tool for both bringing in frailer attackers and wearing down Braviary's checks. On the other hand, Roost is a decent option to heal off chip damage, but it should not be used when running Choice Band.

Set Details
========

Maximum investment in Attack and Speed along with an Adamant nature allows Braviary to hit as hard as possible while outpacing a good portion of the metagame. Jolly is still a viable option, though, (AC) tying with other positive-natured base 80 Speed Pokemon such as Shiftry and Gallade while outrunning neutral-natured Hitmonlee and Sawk. Choice Band boosts Braviary's Attack and doesn't wear it down with recoil damage. Alternatively, Sharp Beak is an option if switching moves is important, and a Sharp Beak-boosted Brave Bird still 2HKOes Alomomola after Stealth Rock damage, forcing it to use Protect and giving a free switch to a teammate. Life Orb is a feasible option, as it gives a large boost to all of Braviary's attacks without locking it in; however, the recoil damage adds up quickly alongside Brave Bird recoil and possibly Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

This set's main role is to generally break down balance teams, especially for a teammate. It is best to remove Stealth Rock from the field before sending Braviary into battle, as it will be switching in and out a lot. U-turn is a key facet of this set and should be used often in order to wear down Braviary's checks and gain momentum. Braviary's STAB moves are rather spammable most of the time, unless the opponent is carrying a threatening check such as Tyrantrum or Mega Steelix. In that case, it's best to either U-turn out or hit the foe on the switch with Superpower. Roost should only be used when Braviary is very low on health or to stall another Pokemon out of PP; otherwise, attacking directly or pivoting out with U-turn is usually its best bet.

Team Options
========

Due to Braviary's ability to force switches, Dugtrio makes for a great partner, being able to come in after U-turn and trap Braviary's checks. Sticky Web support from Smeargle is very useful, helping to mitigate Braviary's lackluster Speed and opening up sweeping opportunities against more offensive teams. In return, Braviary can deter Defoggers from removing entry hazards by virtue of its ability Defiant. Moreover, because entry hazards can help guarantee some OHKOs and 2HKOs for Braviary and wear down its checks in conjunction with U-turn, Braviary works well on most entry hazard-stacking teams. Pokemon that can remove Stealth Rock from the field, such as Hitmonlee and Flygon, are basically mandatory if Braviary is going to be a force throughout the match. Both Pokemon can also take care of Rock- and Steel-types. Flying-types such as Fletchinder and Swellow can weaken Braviary's counters to help it sweep the opposing team, and Braviary can take down theirs in return. Grass-type Pokemon such as Rotom-C and offensive Tangrowth can handle Rhyperior and Mega Steelix well. Torterra is more of a niche option, but it can set up Stealth Rock as well as take care of most Rock- and Steel-types. Additionally, Meloetta, Mega Abomasnow, and Exploud can lure in checks to Braviary, such as Rhyperior and Registeel, and weaken or KO them with a coverage move. Pokemon like Eelektross, Jolteon, Meloetta, Rotom-C, and Flygon can form a nice VoltTurn core with Braviary. Seismitoad and Slowking can switch into Rock- and Steel-types and proceed to either burn or KO them; Seismitoad also has access to Stealth Rock. Finally, Pursuit support from the likes of Houndoom and Drapion can be useful to trap troublesome Ghost-types such as Rotom and Mega Banette.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Brave Bird makes for a strong and reliable STAB move, notably targeting Pokemon like Virizion, Accelgor, Durant, Choice Scarf Emboar, and +1 Scrafty. Return mainly covers Jolteon, but it also has use in picking off weakened Pokemon that resist Flying. Superpower rounds out Braviary's coverage, allowing it to revenge kill Choice Scarf Tyrantrum and +2 Rhyperior while smacking other Rock- and Steel-types on the switch. U-turn is a useful tool for grabbing momentum if you predict that the foe will switch out, giving Braviary a chance to switch into an answer to the incoming Pokemon.

Set Details
========

The EV spread allows Braviary to hit as hard and as fast as possible. Choice Scarf fixes Braviary's middling Speed and transforms it into a fearsome revenge killer. A Jolly nature is chosen so that Braviary can outpace Jolteon and Choice Scarf Tyrantrum while Speed tying with other Choice Scarf base 80 Speed Pokemon. Running an Adamant nature is an option to boost Braviary's damage output, as Braviary will still outrun Dugtrio and Choice Scarf Emboar; however, it will miss out on the previously mentioned threats, all of which are relatively common.

Usage Tips
========

This set's primary mission is to revenge kill weakened and frail offensive Pokemon; once Braviary is no longer needed, however, it can attempt a late-game sweep. Try to remove Stealth Rock from the playing field before Braviary switches in, as it may have to come in multiple times throughout the match. U-turn should be used often on predicted switches in order to gather momentum, but be sure not to make a costly overprediction. This should go without saying, but Braviary shouldn't attempt to KO healthy Pokemon with decent Defense, such as Durant, because of this set's lack of a boosting item. Due to its limited opportunities to enter the battlefield, Braviary should aim to come in after a teammate goes down or from Volt Switch or U-turn from a teammate like Rotom-C or Flygon. If you're switching Braviary into Flygon to take advantage of Defog, you should be wary of Flygon's Dragon-type STAB moves, as they can remove a good chunk of Braviary's health.

Team Options
========

Entry hazard support from the likes of Smeargle, Accelgor, Qwilfish, Omastar, and Rhyperior is especially important for this set; apart from offering a deterrent to Defog users, Braviary loses much of its power without a boosting item, making entry hazard support essential to achieve some OHKOs and 2HKOs. For example, Stealth Rock guarantees the OHKO on Jolteon and Delphox with Return and Brave Bird, respectively. Bulky Ground-, Fighting-, and Water-types such as Torterra, Seismitoad, Poliwrath, Slowking, and Alomomola can take on or wear down the majority of Braviary's checks, helping it sweep later; the latter can also provide Wish support, while the former two can set up Stealth Rock. Grass-types such as Rotom-C and Tangrowth can threaten most Rock- and Electric-types as well as Mega Steelix and Alomomola. Wallbreakers such as Meloetta, Emboar, and Exploud can weaken Braviary's checks and open up possibilities for a late-game sweep. Mega Abomasnow also deserves a mention due to its wallbreaking prowess and ability to check Jolteon, Rotom-C, and most bulky Water-types. Finally, entry hazard removal from the likes of Hitmonlee, Flygon, and Hitmontop is appreciated to prevent Braviary from taking unnecessary Stealth Rock damage.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=========

Defog is a great support option, but Braviary can't find a place for it on any of its sets. An offensive Substitute + Roost set is somewhat viable, allowing Braviary to stall out foes while maintaining offensive pressure. Toxic allows Braviary to cripple and wear down defensive checks such as Alomomola and Rhyperior, though it doesn't affect Steel-types. Sheer Force could be used on either the physical attacker or Choice Scarf set alongside moves such as Crush Claw, Rock Slide, and Heat Wave. Tailwind fixes Braviary's middling Speed for a few turns and helps out slower teammates such as Emboar and Exploud, making it a plausible option on the physical attacker set if not running Choice Band. Braviary can utilize some different Normal-type STAB moves; Thrash is more powerful than Return but locks Braviary in for a couple turns, Retaliate gives Braviary a one-time 140-Base Power attack after a teammate faints, and Facade allows Braviary to benefit from a stray Toxic. Sleep Talk adds to Braviary's ability to check Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, allowing it to take sleep-inducing moves without much worry.

Checks and Counters
============

**Rock- and Steel-types**: Rock- and Steel-types such as Rhyperior, Tyrantrum, Mega Steelix, Registeel, and Bronzong can take most hits from Braviary thanks to their resistance to Flying and tremendous physical bulk and can either set up Stealth Rock, cripple it with status, or hit it hard. However, the latter two are setup bait for the Substitute + Bulk Up set, and all of them should be wary of Superpower at low health and U-turn.

**Physical Walls**: Physically bulky Pokemon such as Alomomola, Cofagrigus, and Rhyperior can take hits from Braviary without too much trouble, although the latter two are setup bait for the Substitute + Bulk Up set.

**Electric-types**: Electric-types such as Jolteon, Rotom-C, and Eelektross are some of the best offensive checks to Braviary. The former two can outspeed non-Choice Scarf Braviary and KO it, while all three can take hits from the Substitute + Bulk Up set and 2HKO it.

**Quagsire**: Quagsire can take hits from most of Braviary's sets and retaliate with Scald or set up with Curse. However, the Choice Band set can break through it, and without Curse, Quagsire only manages to PP stall the Substitute + Bulk Up set.

**Infiltrator Users**: Pokemon with Infiltrator such as Golbat and Spiritomb can bypass Braviary's Substitute and don't take much damage from Brave Bird. However, they must be switched in before Braviary attains too many boosts.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon and Priority Users**: Due to Braviary's middling Speed, offensive Pokemon such as Jolteon, Delphox, Durant, Meloetta, and Choice Scarf Tyrantrum can outspeed and threaten to OHKO it. Pokemon that wield priority moves, especially Ice Shard users such as Mega Abomasnow and Mega Glalie, can also pick off Braviary if it is sufficiently weakened.

do not c/p from the previous analysis

the purpose of a revamp is to overhaul the analysis, if we wanted to do some tweaks to the evs and teammates here and there, we could have done this through cms without having to go through the whole process. do not waste our time like this

I am writing it from scratch, though; the c/p is just there to actively remind me of examples and stuff that might need to be included in the revamp without having to go to a new tab.

I mean if youre going to replace it anyway whats the point of keeping it in the writeup? you could just have two tabs open at once if that's an issue and putting it as if it's gonna be a part of the final draft won't serve much purpose except to confuse QC members.

This is now ready for QC, sorry for the confusion :/

edit: just realized that this is my 284th post and Braviary has a maximum of 284 Speed, go figure

ok

so i definitely think that bu should be the first set, as it is the set that generates the most substantial and consistent niche in this meta; it tanks moth / accelgor, grasses, capitalizes on stuff like momo / aromatisse / togetic, and is generally fat w/decent offensive presence and recovery, which is all pretty cool at this time.

in regards to the offensive set, i'd much rather roost be slashed with return, since really the pool of fatter electrics is rather shallow, and (in contrast) the utility of u-turn is decently broad. also, and perhaps other qc members can offer their opinions on this, but i would much rather sharp beak run over life orb, given how overbearing the chip damage becomes when you account for bb recoil and sr damage in tandem w/lo recoil. sharp beak continues to 2hko standard bold alomomola after sr (252+ Atk Sharp Beak Braviary Brave Bird vs. 120 HP / 136+ Def Alomomola: 232-274 (46.3 - 54.6%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery), forcing the protect turn.

beyond that, i'm not 100% sure on things, just thought i'd put something out there x_x i'll hit this up in a day or so, get something of substance nailed down.

Personally, i'd probably bump up the mention of 160 Speed EVs on the Bulk Up set to 164 EVs, this allows you to outspeed Jolly Scrafty by one point so you can outspeed and OHKO it with Brave Bird 1v1.

You still have two Venomoth mentions, one in the usage tips section of the Substitute+Bulk Up set, and one in OO where you mention sleep talk, be sure to remove those two mentions when you write this up.

Aside from those two small nitpicks, this looks pretty solid, good job :).

QC Approved 2/3

This is now written up after an entire 2 weeks (b/c of laziness). I also updated the analysis with a few mentions of Mega Abomasnow and Slowking in Team Options. I don't think this is fully polished yet so I'd strongly advise QC members to look over this carefully before sending it to GP.

In overview, i don't like the mention of Braviary's movepool as i can just look through that at the dex entry.

Mention Ice Shard users in c&c that can pick off a weakened Braviary.

QC 3/3 when you're done.

-kal- I implemented the part about the Ice Shard users, but do you think I could keep the bit in the Overview about Braviary's movepool?
It also contains a rich movepool consisting of options such as Brave Bird, Superpower, Roost, Bulk Up, and U-turn. Along with its decent bulk, this makes Braviary quite versatile, capable on taking on a couple different roles such as a sweeper or revenge killer.
The sentence that immediately follows up the one about the movepool kind of depends upon the previous sentence in order to make sense, especially "Along with its" and "this makes Braviary quite versatile". I understand why Dex info shouldn't be in the Overview; however, I feel that a Pokemon's movepool isn't as obvious to the reader as stats or ability, and that Braviary's movepool is definitely a big part of its niche over other physical attackers, big enough that it should be addressed in the Overview.

I think you could get away with this if you played around with it. "Along with Braviary's decent bulk, its movepool and base 80 Speed make it quite versatile; Bulk Up + Roost allow it to function as a sweeper, while Brave Bird, Superpower, and U-turn make it a potent revenge killer." If you break it up this way, it adds to the analysis and doesn't sound like you're just listing its moves.

This is Braviary's flagship set, being able to break through the likes of common balance cores. Bulk Up boosts Braviary's Attack and Defense, preparing it for a sweep and making it harder to break and preparing it for a sweep. Roost offers a reliable form of recovery, healing off damage taken from Substitute, Brave Bird, and opposing attacks. Brave Bird is the preferred STAB move for this set, with good coverage on the metagame; it also doesn't have any immunities, unlike Return does. Leftovers lets Braviary recover a bit of health every turn and helps to make up for the HP lost from making by using Substitutes and spamming Brave Bird. Maximum HP investment is used given so that Registeel can't break Braviary's Substitute with Seismic Toss. 88 EVs in Speed let Braviary outrun uninvested Golbat and Meloetta, as well as neutral 252 Clawitzer and Scrafty with a neutral nature and maximum Speed. Pokemon that can remove Stealth Rock from the field Entry hazards removers, such as Hitmonlee and Flygon, are basically mandatory if Braviary is going to be a force throughout the match. Both Pokemon can also take care of Rock- and Steel-types. Flying-types such as Fletchinder and Swellow can weaken counters for Braviary to sweep the opposing team, or vice-(hyphen)versa. Grass-types Pokemon such as Rotom-C and offensive Tangrowth can handle Rhyperior and Mega Steelix well. Torterra is more of a niche option, but can set up Stealth Rock as well as taking care of most Rock- and Steel-types. Additionally, Meloetta, Mega Abomasnow, and Exploud can lure in checks to Braviary, such as Rhyperior and Registeel, and weaken or KO them with a coverage move. Pokemon such as Eelektross, Jolteon, Meloetta, Rotom-C, and Flygon can form a nice VoltTurn core with Braviary. Seismitoad and Slowking can switch into Rock- and Steel-types and proceed to either burn or KO them; Seismitoad also gets access to Stealth Rock. Finally, Pursuit support from the likes of Houndoom or and Drapion could be useful to trap troublesome Ghost-types such as Rotom or Mega Banette.

Moves
========

Brave Bird makes for a strong and reliable STAB move, particularly targeting Pokemon such as Virizion, Accelgor, Durant, Choice Scarf Emboar, and +1 Scrafty. Return mainly covers Jolteon, but also has use in cleaning cleans weakened Pokemon that resist Flying-type moves. Superpower rounds out Braviary's coverage, allowing it Braviary to revenge kill Choice Scarf Tyrantrum and +2 Rock Polish Rhyperior, (AC) while smacking hitting super effectively other Rock- and Steel-types. Pokemon on the switch. U-turn is a useful tool for grabbing momentum if you predict the targeted Pokemon to switch out. giving Braviary a chance to switch into an answer to the incoming Pokemon. (grab momentum = "give Braviary a chance to switch into an answer to the incoming Pokemon." so it's redundant)

Set Details
========

The EVs spread is relatively self-explanatory; it allows Braviary to hit as hard and as fast as possible. Choice Scarf fixes Braviary's middling Speed and transforms it into a fearsome revenge killer. A Jolly nature is chosen so that Braviary can outpace Jolteon and Choice Scarf Tyrantrum, (AC) while Speed tying with other Choice Scarf base 80 Speed. Running an Adamant nature is an option to boost Braviary's damage output, as Braviary will still outrun Dugtrio and Choice Scarf Emboar; however, it will miss out on won't outspeed the aforementioned threats, which are all relatively common.

Usage Tips
========

This set's number one mission is to revenge kill weakened and frailer offensive Pokemon; once Braviary is no longer needed, it can attempt a late-game sweep. Try to remove Stealth Rock from the playing field before Braviary switches in to avoid extra damage, as it may have to come in multiple times throughout the match. U-turn should be used a lot on predicted switches in order to garner gain momentum, though be sure not to make a costly overprediction. This kind of goes without saying, but one You obviously shouldn't attempt to kill KO healthy Pokemon with a decent Defense, such as Durant, because of this set's lack of a boosting item. Due to its limited switch-in opportunities, Braviary should aim to come in after a teammate goes down is KOed or using a Pokemon that carries Volt Switch or U-turn, such as Rotom-C or Flygon. If you're switching Braviary into Flygon to take advantage of Defog, you should be wary of Flygon's Dragon STAB moves, as they can 2HKO remove a good chunk of Braviary.'s health.

Team Options
========

Entry hazard hazards support from the likes of Smeargle, Accelgor, Qwilfish, Omastar, and Rhyperior is especially important for this set; apart from offering a deterrent to Defog users, Braviary loses much of its power without a boosting item, making it entry hazards support essential to achieve some OHKOs and 2HKOs. For example, Stealth Rock guarantees the OHKO on Jolteon and Delphox. Bulky Ground-, Fighting-, and Water-types can take on or wear down the majority of Braviary's checks, helping it sweep later. Examples of such Pokemon include Torterra, Seismitoad, Poliwrath, Slowking, and Alomomola; the latter can also provide Wish support, while the former two can also set up Stealth Rock. Grass-types Pokemon such as Rotom-C and Tangrowth can threaten most Rock- and Electric-types as well as Mega Steelix and Alomomola Braviary struggles with. Finally, Rapid Spin entry hazards removal support from Hitmonlee, Flygon, or Hitmontop is appreciated to avoid Stealth Rock damage., as this set may be switching in and out a couple of times per match.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=========

Defog is a great support option, but Braviary just can't find a place for it on one of its sets. An offensive SubRoost set with Substitute and Roost is a somewhat viable option, allowing Braviary to stall out foes while maintaining offensive pressure. Toxic allows Braviary to cripple and wear down defensive checks such as Alomomola and Rhyperior, although it doesn't affect Steel-types. Sheer Force could be used on either the physical attacker or Choice Scarf set alongside moves such as Crush Claw, Rock Slide, or and Heat Wave. Tailwind fixes Braviary's middling Speed for a few turns and help out slower teammates such as Emboar and Exploud, making it a plausible option if one forgoes Choice Band on the physical attacker set. Braviary can utilize some different Normal-type STAB moves; Thrash is more powerful than Return but locks Braviary in for a couple turns, Retaliate gives Braviary a one-time 140 Base Power nuke on the switch-in, and Facade allows Braviary to benefit from status conditions stray Toxics. Sleep Talk adds to allows Braviary's ability to check Grass-types, (AC) such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, allowing it to take sleep-inducing moves without much worry.

Checks & Counters
============

**Rock- and Steel-types**: Rock- and Steel-types such as Rhyperior, Tyrantrum, Mega Steelix, Registeel, and Bronzong can take most hits from Braviary thanks to their resistance to Flying-type and tremendous physical bulk, and can either set up Stealth Rock, status it, or hit it hard. However, the latter two are setup bait for the Substitute + Bulk Up set, and all of them should be wary of Superpower at low health or U-turn.

The former two can outspeed non-Choice Scarf Braviary and KO it, while they all three can take hits from and 2HKO the Substitute + Bulk Up set and 2HKO it.

**Quagsire**: Quagsire can take hits from most of Braviary's sets and retaliate with Scald or set up with Curse. However, the Choice Band set can break through it, and Quagsire only manages to PP stall the Substitute + Bulk Up set if it doesn't carry Curse.

**Infiltrator Users**: Pokemon with Infiltrator such as Golbat and Spiritomb can bypass Braviary's Substitute as well as inflict status on it, and they don't take much damage from Brave Bird. However, they must be switched in before Braviary attains too many boosts.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon and priority**: Due to Braviary middling Speed, offensive Pokemon such as Jolteon, Delphox, Durant, Meloetta, and Scarf Tyrantrum can outspeed and threaten to OHKO Braviary. Pokemon that wield have priority moves, especially Ice Shard users, (AC) such as Mega Abomasnow and Mega Glalie, can also pick off Braviary if it is sufficiently weakened.

Tricking I implemented parts of your AM check just by scanning over it, but ended up leaving some of it out due to the changes either being incorrect or overly subjective. Don't worry about it, though, but I'd probably make sure to read / reread this resource if you haven't.

[OVERVIEW]

Circling high up in the clouds, Braviary finds its place in RU as a good physical attacker with solid neutral coverage on the metagame. Braviary also has decent bulk and is capable of taking on a couple of different roles, such as a sweeper or and revenge killer. Defiant is a cool ability, as it not only allows Braviary to take advantage of Intimidate users, such as Granbull and Qwilfish, but also Defog users such as Flygon, making it a good choice for Sticky Web and other entry hazard-reliant teams. Unfortunately, Braviary is a bit lacking in the speed Speed department; many common offensive threats such as Mega Glalie, Meloetta, and Rotom-C can outpace Braviary if it's not carrying a Choice Scarf. Moreover, Braviary is not a very consistent or splashable Pokemon due to its subpar Speed and susceptibility to residual damage, and its low set of resistances can make it hard for many players to incorporate Braviary into their teams.

Moves
========

This is Braviary's flagship set, being able to break through most balance cores. (This belongs in usage tips) Substitute mainly shields Braviary from status moves such as Toxic or and Will-O-Wisp while easing prediction. Bulk Up boosts Braviary's Attack and Defense, making it harder to break and preparing it for a sweep and making it harder to break. Roost offers a reliable form of recovery, healing off damage taken from Substitute, Brave Bird, and opposing attacks. Brave Bird is the preferred STAB move for this set, with attaining good coverage on the metagame; it also doesn't have any immunities, unlike Return, no Pokemon are immune to Brave Bird. If one Braviary's team has Pursuit support or another reliable way of dealing with Ghost-types, Return can be used in place of Brave Bird, as it hits Jolteon and Eelektross neutrally and doesn't wear Braviary down with recoil damage; however, it is noticeably weaker than Brave Bird.

Set Details
========

Leftovers lets Braviary recover a bit of health every turn and helps to make up for the HP lost from making using Substitutes and spamming Brave Bird. Maximum HP investment is used so that Registeel can't break Braviary's Substitute with Seismic Toss. 88 EVs in Speed let Braviary outrun uninvested Golbat and Meloetta, as well as neutral-natured 252 Clawitzer and Scrafty. Running 164 Speed EVs is also an option if you want Braviary to get the jump on positive 252 maximum Speed Scrafty and Omastar as well as neutral-natured Exploud. The rest of the EVs go into Special Defense alongside a Careful nature, which allows Braviary to set up on weaker special attackers such as Amoonguss, Aromatisse, Seismitoad, and Alomomola, as well as take some hits from special attackers looking to revenge kill Braviary.

Usage Tips
========

This set's primary goal is to break through most balance cores. Braviary should aim to set up on passive Pokemon such as Alomomola, Amoonguss, and Aromatisse, though try not to directly switch into the former two, as they might use a status move and cripple Braviary before it can do anything. Do not begin setting up if the opponent is carrying phazers such as Rhyperior and Mega Steelix. Really In practice, all Rock-, Electric-, Steel-, and Ice-types should be KOed, weakened, or crippled in some way before attempting a sweep. Braviary can also stall out low-(AH)PP moves such as Stone Edge with a the combination of Substitute and Roost. Try to keep Braviary away from sound-based moves from the likes of Exploud, Meloetta, Chatot, and Aurorus, as they hit through Sbstitute. Additionally, it's a good idea, though not mandatory, to remove Stealth Rock from the playing field before attempting a sweep.

Team Options
========

Ground-types such as Rhyperior, Quagsire, and Torterra pair well with Braviary, as they can take out the Rock-, Steel-, and Electric-types such as Tyrantrum, Mega Steelix, and Jolteon that hinder Braviary's ability to sweep. Qwilfish, Omastar, Drapion, and Weezing can set up Toxic Spikes, which works in combination with Substitute and Roost and to wear down and stall out slower Pokemon such as Rhyperior. Stealth Rock may prevent Braviary from switching in to sweeping if it manages to take a chunk out of Braviary's HP, so entry hazard removers, such as Hitmonlee and Flygon, generally go pair well with Braviary. Hitmonlee and Flygon can also check Rock- and Steel-types, whereas and Flygon is also being able to switch into and threaten Electric-types such as Jolteon. Bulky Water-types such as Seismitoad, Gastrodon, Alomomola, and Slowking make for great partners, as they can burn or weaken most of Braviary's checks; this also goes for other bulky Water-types such as Alomomola and Gastrodon. Other Flying-types, such as Fletchinder and Chatot, can wear down Braviary's counters with the right coverage moves and set the stage for a late-game sweep.

Moves
========

Brave Bird is Braviary's most powerful STAB move and gets attains solid coverage on the RU metagame. Return is a nice secondary STAB move, and that should be used when Braviary can't afford to take recoil damage or when against an Electric-type such as Eelektross. Superpower is nice for bopping nailing Rock- and Steel-types such as Rhyperior and Mega Steelix on the switch, wearing them down for later in the match. U-turn is an excellent momentum grabber and doubles as a useful tool for both bringing in frailer attackers, as well as and wearing down Braviary's checks. On the other hand, Roost is a decent option to heal off chip damage, especially if one chooses to running Sharp Beak or Life Orb. (Obviously it heals LO recoil, but how does Sharp Beak wear Braviary down faster?)

Set Details
========

Maximum investment in Attack and Speed along with an Adamant nature allows Braviary to hit as hard as possible while outpacing a good portion of the metagame. Jolly is still a viable option, tying with other positive-natured base 80s Speed Pokemon such as Shiftry and Gallade while outrunning neutral-natured Hitmonlee and neutral Sawk. Choice Band is the item of choice for this set, as it hits very hard sharply boosts Braviary's attack and doesn't wear Braviary it down from with recoil damage. Alternatively, Sharp Beak is an option if one feels the need to switching moves is important, and a Sharp Beak-boosted Brave Bird still 2HKOes Alomomola after Stealth Rock damage, forcing it to use Protect and giving a free switch-in to a teammate. Life Orb is a feasible option, as it gives a large 1.3x boost to all of Braviary's attacks without locking it in; however, the recoil damage adds up quickly alongside Brave Bird recoil and possible possibly Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

This set's main role is to generally break down balance teams, especially for a teammate. It is best to remove Stealth Rock from the field before sending Braviary into battle, as Braviary will be switching in and out a lot. U-turn is a key facet of this set, (RC) and should be used often in order to wear down Braviary's checks and gain momentum. Braviary's STAB moves are rather spammable most of the time, unless the opponent is carrying a threatening check such as Tyrantrum or Mega Steelix. In that case, it's best to either U-turn out or go for the 2HKO hit the foe on the switch with Superpower. Roost should only be used when Braviary is very low on health or to stall another Pokemon out of PP; otherwise, attacking directly or pivoting out with U-turn is usually your its best bet.

Team Options
========

Due to Braviary's ability to force switches, Dugtrio makes for a great partner, being able to come in after a U-turn and trap Braviary's checks. Sticky Web support from Smeargle is very useful, helping to mitigate Braviary's lackluster Speed stat and opening up sweeping opportunities against more offensive teams. In return, Braviary can deter Defoggers from removing entry hazards by virtue of its ability, Defiant. Braviary also works well on pretty much any hazard-stacking team, as it benefits from Defoggers attempting to remove entry hazards, and in return, Moreover, because entry hazards can help guarantee some OHKOs and 2HKOs for Braviary and wear down its checks in conjunction with U-turn, Braviary works well on most entry-hazard stacking teams. Pokemon that can remove Stealth Rock from the field, such as Hitmonlee and Flygon, are basically mandatory if Braviary is going to be a force throughout the match. Both Pokemon can also take care of Rock- and Steel-types. Flying-types such as Fletchinder and Swellow can weaken counters for Braviary's counters to help it sweep the opposing team, or vice versa and Braviary can take down theirs in return. Pokemon such as like (yes, "like" is better than "such as" here) Eelektross, Jolteon, Meloetta, Rotom-C, and Flygon can form a nice VoltTurn core with Braviary. Seismitoad and Slowking can switch into Rock- and Steel-types and proceed to either burn or KO them; Seismitoad also gets has access to Stealth Rock. Finally, Pursuit support from the likes of Houndoom or and Drapion could can be useful to trap troublesome Ghost-types such as Rotom or and Mega Banette.

Brave Bird makes for a strong and reliable STAB move, particularly notably targeting Pokemon such as like Virizion, Accelgor, Durant, Choice Scarf Emboar, and +1 Scrafty. Return mainly covers Jolteon, but it also has use in cleaning picking off weakened Pokemon that resist Flying. Superpower rounds out Braviary's coverage, allowing Braviary it to revenge kill Choice Scarf Tyrantrum and +2 Rhyperior while smacking other Rock- and Steel-types Pokemon on the switch. Due to its limited switch-in opportunities to enter the battlefield, Braviary should aim to come in after a teammate goes down or using a Pokemon that carries from Volt Switch or U-turn, such as from a teammate like Rotom-C or Flygon, respectively. If you're switching Braviary into Flygon to take advantage of Defog, you should be wary of Flygon's Dragon-type STAB moves, as they can remove a good chunk of Braviary's health.

Braviary can utilize some different Normal-type STAB moves; Thrash is more powerful than Return but locks Braviary in for a couple turns, Retaliate gives Braviary a one-time 140 Base Power attack after a teammate faints nuke on the switch-in, and Facade allows Braviary to benefit from a stray Toxics. Sleep Talk adds to Braviary's ability to check Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, allowing it to take sleep-inducing moves without much worry.

Checks & Counters
============

**Rock- and Steel-types**: Rock- and Steel-types such as Rhyperior, Tyrantrum, Mega Steelix, Registeel, and Bronzong can take most hits from Braviary thanks to their resistance to Flying and tremendous physical bulk, (RC) and can either set up Stealth Rock, cripple it with status it, or hit it hard. However, the latter two are setup bait for the Substitute + Bulk Up set, and all of them should be wary of Superpower at low health or and U-turn.

However, the Choice Band set can break through it, and Quagsire can only manages to PP stall the Substitute + Bulk Up set if it doesn't carry Curse. (What are you trying to say here? Is it Quagsire can't PP stall the Substitute + Bulk Up set if it has Curse? Or is it Quagsire can PP stall the Substitute + Bulk Up set if it runs Curse but can't PP stall the other two sets? Let me know which one you're saying, as whichever one you choose will greatly change the way that this sentence should be worded.)

**Infiltrator Users**: Pokemon with Infiltrator such as Golbat and Spiritomb can bypass Braviary's Substitute as well as inflict status on it, (they can attack it too) and don't take much damage from Brave Bird. However, they must be switched in before Braviary attains too many boosts.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon and Priority Users**: Due to Braviary's middling Speed, offensive Pokemon such as Jolteon, Delphox, Durant, Meloetta, and Choice Scarf Tyrantrum can outspeed and threaten to OHKO Braviary it. Pokemon that wield priority moves, especially Ice Shard users such as Mega Abomasnow and Mega Glalie, can also pick off Braviary if it is sufficiently weakened.

Substitute mainly shields Braviary from status moves such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp while easing prediction. Bulk Up boosts Braviary's Attack and Defense, preparing it for a sweep and making it harder to break. Roost offers a reliable form of recovery, healing off damage taken from Substitute, Brave Bird, and opposing attacks. Brave Bird is the preferred STAB move for this set, attaining good coverage on the metagame; unlike Return, no Pokemon are immune to Brave Bird.

Stealth Rock may prevent Braviary from switching in to sweep, so entry hazard removers, such as Hitmonlee and Flygon, generally pair well with Braviary.

Moves
========

Brave Bird is Braviary's most powerful STAB move and attains solid coverage on the RU metagame. Return is a nice secondary STAB move that should be used when Braviary can't afford to take recoil damage or when against an Electric-type such as Eelektross. On the other hand, Roost is a decent option to heal off chip damage, but it should not be used if running Choice Band.
Set Details
========

Maximum investment in Attack and Speed along with an Adamant nature allows Braviary to hit as hard as possible while outpacing a good portion of the metagame. Jolly is still a viable option, tying with other positive-natured base 80 Speed Pokemon such as Shiftry and Gallade while outrunning neutral-natured Hitmonlee and Sawk. Choice Band sharply boosts Braviary's attack and doesn't wear it down with recoil damage.

Usage Tips
========

This set's main role is to generally break down balance teams, especially for a teammate. It is best to remove Stealth Rock from the field before sending Braviary into battle, as Braviary will be switching in and out a lot.

========

In return, Braviary can deter Defoggers from removing entry hazards by virtue of its ability, Defiant. Moreover, because entry hazards can help guarantee some OHKOs and 2HKOs for Braviary and wear down its checks in conjunction with U-turn, Braviary works well on most entry-hazard stacking teams. Pokemon like
Eelektross, Jolteon, Meloetta, Rotom-C, and Flygon can form a nice VoltTurn core with Braviary.

Moves

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

U-turn should be used often on predicted switches in order to gather momentum, though be sure not to make a costly overprediction. This should go without saying, but Braviary shouldn't attempt to KO healthy Pokemon with decent Defense, such as Durant, because of this set's lack of a boosting item. Due to its limited opportunities to enter the battlefield, Braviary should aim to come in after a teammate goes down or from Volt Switch or U-turn from a teammate like Rotom-C or Flygon, respectively. If you're switching Braviary into Flygon to take advantage of Defog, you should be wary of Flygon's Dragon-type STAB moves, as they can remove a good chunk of Braviary's health.

Team Options
========

Bulky Ground-, Fighting-, and Water-types such as Torterra, Seismitoad, Poliwrath, Slowking, and Alomomola can take on or wear down the majority of Braviary's checks, helping it sweep later; the latter can provide Wish support, while the former two can also set up Stealth Rock.

=========

Defog is a great support option, but Braviary can't find a place for it on any of its sets. An offensive Substitute + Roost set is a somewhat viable option, allowing Braviary to stall out foes while maintaining offensive pressure. Braviary can utilize some different Normal-type STAB moves; Thrash is more powerful than Return but locks Braviary in for a couple turns, Retaliate gives Braviary a one-time 140 Base Power attack after a teammate faints, and Facade allows Braviary to benefit from a stray Toxic. Sleep Talk adds to Braviary's ability to check Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth, allowing it to take sleep-inducing moves without much worry.

Checks & Counters
============

It splits up when the tag comes in contact with colored text.
  1. I've been told that "splashable" is simply one of those words that should be eliminated on sight, similar to "aforementioned" and the like.
  2. Perhaps change that bit to but it should not be used alongside Choice Band.
  3. Try and without Curse, Quagsire can merely PP stall the Substitute + Bulk Up set.
Hope that clears it all up!

I'm going to put this analysis on hold until the Tyrantrum suspect is over, since Braviary is likely going to be affected in a big way if Tyrantrum gets banned. One of Braviary's offensive checks in Tyrantrum will be removed, and Steel-types such as Mega Steelix, Registeel, and Bronzong will likely drop in popularity, so I'd like to wait till it's over so the analysis won't need to be immediately revamped. Thank you GP members for understanding!

I mean all you have to do is implement one more GP check and it's not like any individual set would change or anything. ~_~

At best, a few sections are edited and that's it.
I guess I see your point, as only a few sections will be edited; however, I don't want a third GP member to have to go through that wall of text. ^.^ Anyway, it's only four or five more days till the suspect test ends and I still need to get reqs.

I did an amcheck your analysis even though you said you didn't want it...

[OVERVIEW]

Braviary finds its place in RU as a good physical attacker with solid neutral coverage on the metagame. Braviary It also has decent bulk and is capable of taking on a couple of different roles, such as being a sweeper and or revenge killer {you wouldn't say: I am capable of taking on a sweeper.}. Defiant not only allows Braviary to take advantage of Intimidate users, such as Granbull and Qwilfish, but also Defog users, such as Flygon, making it a good choice for Sticky Web and other entry hazard-reliant teams that rely on hazards like Sticky Web. Unfortunately, Braviary is a bit lacking in the Speed department;, and many common offensive threats such as Mega Glalie, Meloetta, and Rotom-C can outpace Braviary if it's not carrying a Choice Scarf. To make things worse, it has trouble breaking through prominent Rock- and Steel-types such as Tyrantrum and Mega Steelix as well as and tough physical walls such as Alomomola, all of which are all fairly common in the current RU metagame. Many Pokemon can take a hit from Braviary and retaliate with ease, especially facing from {Many Pokémon from the Choice Scarf set can take a hit from Braviary?} the Choice Scarf set. Moreover, Braviary is not a very consistent offensively/defensively/in its performance Pokémon due to because of its subpar Speed and susceptibility to residual damage, and its low small set of resistances can make it hard for many players to incorporate Braviary into their teams.

Substitute mainly shields Braviary from status moves,(comma) such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp,(comma) while easing prediction. Bulk Up boosts Braviary's Attack and Defense, preparing it for a sweep and making it harder to break take down. Roost offers a reliable form of recovery, healing off damage taken from and heals off damage taken from Substitute, Brave Bird, and opposing attacks {first part includes opposing attacks - second should
emphasize synergy}. Brave Bird is the preferred STAB move for this set, attaining good instead of Return, because it has better coverage on the metagame and ability to hit Ghost-types.; unlike Return, no Pokemon are immune to Brave Bird. If Braviary's team has Pursuit support or another reliable way of dealing with Ghost-types Return can be used in place of Brave Bird, as it hits Jolteon and Eelektross neutrally and doesn't wear Braviary down with recoil damage; however, it is noticeably weaker than Brave Bird.
Set Details
========

Leftovers lets Braviary recover a bit of health every turn and helps to make up for the HP lost from using Substitute and Brave Bird. Maximum HP investment is used makes it so that Registeel can't break Braviary's Substitute with Seismic Toss. The 88 EVs in Speed let Braviary outrun uninvested Golbat and Meloetta, as well as neutral-natured Clawitzer and Scrafty. Running 164 Speed EVs is also an option if you want Braviary to get the jump on maximum Speed Scrafty and Omastar as well as neutral-natured Exploud. The rest of the EVs go into Special Defense alongside a Careful nature, which allows {you can potentially take what you wrote to mean that the Careful nature is allowing and not the EVs} allowing Braviary to set up on weaker special attackers, such as Amoonguss, Aromatisse, Seismitoad, and Alomomola, as well as and take some hits from special attackers looking to revenge kill Braviary it.

Usage Tips
========

This set's primary goal is to break through most balance cores. Braviary should aim to set up on passive Pokemon such as Alomomola, Amoonguss, and Aromatisse, though you try not to directly switch it into the former two, as they might use a status move and cripple Braviary before it can do anything. Try to keep Braviary away from sound-based moves from the likes of Exploud, Meloetta, Chatot, and Aurorus, as they hit through Sbstitute Substitute. Additionally, it's a good idea, though not mandatory, to remove Stealth Rock from the playing field before attempting a sweep.

Team Options

Ground-types such as Rhyperior, Quagsire, and Torterra can take out the Rock-, Steel-, and Electric-types such as Tyrantrum, Mega Steelix, and Jolteon that hinder Braviary's ability to sweep. Other Flying-types,(comma) such as Fletchinder and Chatot,(comma) {not all flying-types have the right coverage move so commas are misleading} can wear down Braviary's counters with the right coverage moves and set the stage for a late-game sweep.

**Infiltrator Users**: Pokemon with Infiltrator such as Golbat and Spiritomb can bypass Braviary's Substitute and don't take much damage from Brave Bird.;(semicolon) however, they must be switched in before Braviary attains too many boosts.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon and Priority Users**: Due to Braviary's middling Speed, means offensive Pokemon such as Jolteon, Delphox, Durant, Meloetta, and Choice Scarf Tyrantrum can outspeed and threaten to OHKO it. Pokemon that wield priority moves,—especially Ice Shard users such as Mega Abomasnow and Mega Glalie,—can also pick off Braviary if it is sufficiently weakened.
