Pokemon Matchmaking

Approved by Magnemite and galbia | Banner provided by Twerkerella | Format stolen from all the Matchmaking threads | Taken over from rubsomebacononit with a fresh start

All Pokemon are unable to function effectively without their checks and counters gone, which is where their teammates come in. These partners are capable of dismantling multiple Pokemon proving a threat to their teammates, providing invaluable support and thus are often seen as the heart of the team.
This project aims to brainstorm various ideal and effective partners to various Pokemon that may range from metagame defining Pokemon to more underrated threats.

Procedure

Every week, I will nominate a Pokemon for discussion of potential partners and submissions. In that week, you will have the chance to submit any good partners for that chosen Pokemon, and after the course of the week I will choose the best partner(s) for that chosen Pokemon and put it into the archive. People that manage to get into the archive multiple times with good submissions will be let into the Hall of Fame.

Rules

1. Stick with things on the viability rankings. Pokemon such as Skiploom or Loudred which are not viable should not be nominated at all.
2. Reservations are perfectly welcome. However, in your reservation post you must state when you will be able to get your reservation done. This time frame must be no longer than 24 hours. After this time has expired, other users can take your reservation and do it for themselves. If you do not state a time frame your reservation expires in exactly two hours.
3. Don't theorymon. Post Pokemon that you have experience with, or have seen it have quite some use, don't pull Pokemon out of your ass that you think will work well. Have some experience first please.
4. Explain how and why the Pokemon you chose works well. For example, offensive synergy in terms of checks and counters or defensive synergy in terms of typing and checking threats.
5. Be nice to others with your posts and only post meaningful things. One-liners clutter up the thread, as do random memes.
6. Calcs are nice, but not compulsory.
7. Enjoy :)
8. ONE PARTNER PER POST PLEASE!!!

Pawniard @ Eviolite
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head

Thanks to Defiant, Pawniard is able to deter the use of opposing Defog, which is really helpful to Roselia in order to keep Spikes on the field. Spikes also are able to wear down common checks to Pawniard, making it easier to sweep. Pawniard provides Roselia with a switch-in to Psychic-type moves as well as Flying-type moves like Dodrio's Brave Bird, while Roselia can switch into Scald, Fighting-type moves, and Stunfisk, one of Pawniard's best and most common checks.

Roselia like a lot fast taunt such as Floatzel, in addition, Floatzel can easily down the Fire type, and some Flying type who pressure Roselia, and don't allow him to set up the spikes.
Floatel like a lot the Roselia's ability to down opponent's water-type and grass-type. In addition, Floatzel can OHKO more things with the help of the layers of spikes.

Reserving Mightyena.

Vicious (Mightyena) @ Life Orb
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough
- Iron Tail / Thunder Fang

Mightyena is an absolutely fantastic partner for Spikes Roselia for a number of reasons. First, Mightyena is easily able to switch in on and beat Psychic type Pokemon with a STAB Crunch while in return, Roselia can check most Bug, Fighting, and Fairy types, to make Mightyena's life so much easier. The main selling point though is Spikes, of which Roselia can set up multiple layers consistently over the course of the game, allowing Mightyena to get more KO's, and in turn racking up more Moxie boosts.

Vigoroth @ Eviolite
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 248 HP / 248 SpD / 12 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Taunt
- Body Slam
- Slack Off

The bulk that theses two mons have together takes on a majority of the metagame, and Vigoroth's imposing offensive presence forces out a lot of switches, punishing the opponent with Spikes Roselia. Also, as Vigoroth really needs to set up, every bit of damage Roselia gives with Spikes can save an entire turn of set-up.
Roselia on the other hand takes on the Rock and Ground types that Vigoroth struggles with, as well as fighting types, and specifically Floatzel. Go with Synthesis on Roselia to take on defensive oriented teams and stall as well.
Taunt on Vigoroth also prevents Defog, and Roselia's Poison Typing keeps Toxic Spikes off the Field, making sure Vigoroth stays healthy and strong.

Machoke is a decent mon as roselia fits well on offensive teams. Roselia struggles against steel types as it cannot touch them, this means that it struggles against pretty common mons such as probopass and pawniard. These two work together as machoke struggles against bulky grass types especially tangela, which in return, roselia can handle well. Machoke also appreciates the spikes to make it eaiser for it to sweep teams.

Obviously none of these are gonna be bad partners but pawniard benefits most overall imo

And with that, Dundies is the winner by one vote! Congrats. Onto the next mon...

Monferno @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz / Fire Punch
- Close Combat
- Mach Punch
- Swords Dance

This monkey has been getting a ton of attention lately with it being able to handle most of the new drops and it being already decent beforehand. I cannot wait to see what you guys come up with and submissions end on Friday. Good luck! :)

Metang as a partner to SD Monferno

Metang @ Eviolite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 124 Atk / 136 Def
Impish Nature
- Pursuit
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake / Zen Headbutt / Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash

Monferno is able to clean well with a Swords Dance under its belt, but its Mach Punch is stopped by a few choice mons: Flyers like Pelipper, Floatzel with its faster Aqua Jet, and faster Psychic types like Mr. Mime. Metang is able to come in on switch-ins to Monferno, such as Mr. Mime and Kadabra, and Pursuit trap them for decent damage. Or, if you predict them to stay in, some combination of Meteor Mash / Bullet Punch will win. Once Kadabra and Mr. Mime have been dispatched by Metang, Monferno will be free to continue its sweep. Additionally, Metang takes on the annoying Flying types for Monferno (for the most part, with the exception of Dodrio's CB Knock Off / Swanna). In return, Monferno is able to take Dark / Fire attacks aimed at Metang, and can take on threats to Metang such as Mightyena and Pawniard with its STAB Iron Fist Mach Punch.

TONE

I don't have to take this. I'm going for a walk.

Zebstrika @ Life Orb
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Hidden Power [Ice]

SD Monferno + Zebstrika make a pretty nice combo here. SD Monferno is stopped by bulky Water-types like Pelipper, faster Water types like Simipour and Floatzel, and FLying-types like Dodrio and Jumpluff. Zebstrika can handle all of these threats with a simple Thunderbolt or HP Ice in Jumpluff's case as it is naturally faster than said threats bar scarfers while also weakening Stunfisk with HP Ice. Whats more, if faced with a special wall like Lickilicky, it can simply Volt Switch to Monferno and allow a free turn of setup or outright attack with Close Combat.

Seaking as partner for Monferno

Seaking @ Leftovers
Ability: Lightning Rod
Happiness: 0
EVs: 112 HP / 240 Atk / 76 SpD / 80 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Megahorn
- Toxic
- Knock Off

Floatzel and Zebstrika can trouble SD Monferno if it is ever faced with one of these coming in on a free turn as, once Close Combat or Flare Blitz is used to take down an opposing mon, Monferno finds itself easily revenged due to the adverse effects of its moves (ie recoil or defense lowering). Seaking is here to help!

Being able to switch into all but CB Floatzel's Frustration, Seaking aids Monferno with its unique typing+ability combination when taking on these mons. Another usual switchin for Monferno, Stunfisk, is also troubled by this mighty King of The Sea. Seaking has little to no issue switching into most Stunfisk sets in the current meta and either threatens it with STAB Waterfall, hits Grass types that are normally paired with Stunfisk on the switch hard with Megahorn, or Knocks Off/Toxics bulky Waters such as Pelliper and Politoed, cutting down there longevity with Toxic damage or lack of Leftovers, helping Monferno clean later in the match.

Monferno is so good in offensive cores! Stunfisk checks both quite nicely in theory, but can be quickly worn down between their attacks. ;)
