Scolipede Hyper Offense By ZoroarkForever

Introduction
Welcome to the first ORAS Ubers staff RMT, featuring a team built by ZoroarkForever. This team was picked for its representation of the well-known Toxic Spikes offense team archetype. Toxic Spikes offense in general gained a fair degree of popularity and success throughout SPL, UPL, and the Ubers Open. Toxic Spikes is very threatening in ORAS Ubers because constant damage from poison greatly increases pressure on defensive teams to stay healthy in order to deal with the powerful offensive threats in Ubers; poison also puts opposing offensive threats on a timer, making them easier to weaken and revenge kill. This particular team makes use of Scolipede as the Toxic Spikes setter, as it has a good matchup against other common leads and anti-leads such as Deoxys-S and Darkrai, respectively. In addition to Scolipede, this team introduced 4 attacks Latios as a potent wallbreaker alongside classic offensive threats in Primal Groudon, Extreme Killer Arceus, and Xerneas. Mega Gengar also supports the team nicely with its ability to trap and remove Defog users and other key defensive threats on opposing teams. The team is a great representation of a dangerous offensive archetype in ORAS Ubers, which is why it has been selected for the first ORAS Ubers staff RMT.

In-Depth

Scolipede @ Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
IVs: 0 HP / 0 Def / 0 SpD
- Pin Missile
- Toxic Spikes
- Protect
- Endeavor

Main Role:
Scolipede's main role is to set up Toxic Spikes on the other side of the field. Toxic Spikes are hugely damaging to any team, especially hyper offensive teams that lack Defog or Rapid Spin.

Specific Traits:
Unlike other Toxic Spikes leads, Scolipede is not weak to Darkrai. It's also not setup fodder for dangerous offensive threats like Mega Salamence. It can also deal significant damage a lot of Pokemon with Protect + Endeavor. Finally, it's important to note that Scolipede anti-leads Deoxys-S and especially Deoxys-A, both being very common offensive leads.

Moves and EVs:
Toxic Spikes is Scolipede's main move. Protect makes it outspeed Darkrai after one turn thanks to Speed Boost. Pin Missile is there to hit Deoxys-A, Deoxys-S, and Darkrai. Endeavor is used to prevent Scolipede from being setup bait to dangerous Pokemon like Mega Salamence. Maximum Speed investment is used to outspeed Deoxys-S after one Speed boost, while maximum Attack is used to deal as much damage as possible. 0 IVs in Scolipede's defensive stats are essential to make the best use out of Endeavor.

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 176 Atk / 248 SpD / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Precipice Blades
- Dragon Tail
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Main Role:
Primal Groudon's role on the team is to keep up offensive pressure on opposing teams and set up Stealth Rock. It also provides some defensive utility for the team by checking some common threats.

Specific Traits:
Because the lead slot on this team is dedicated to setting Toxic Spikes, Primal Groudon is needed to serve as the team's Stealth Rock user, as it is able to pressure teams with its great offensive presence and set Stealth Rock reliably. Primal Groudon serves as the team's Xerneas check, as it can take any hit from Xerneas and retaliate with a powerful Precipice Blades; Xerneas is covered through the combination of damage that it takes on the turn it is setting up, Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, and Extreme Killer Arceus's Extreme Speed. Primal Groudon also checks Primal Kyogre, as it can switch in and threaten it with Precipice Blades while not taking a huge amount of damage from Ice Beam.

Moves and EVs:
Precipice Blades is Primal Groudon's strongest STAB attack. Dragon Tail synergizes well with Toxic Spikes, shuffling the opposing team and spreading poison while also allowing Primal Groudon to phaze setup sweepers and hit Defog users such as Latios, Latias, and Giratina-O on the switch. Stone Edge hits Ho-Oh and other Flying-types. Stealth Rock enables the team to break through defensive threats such as Lugia more easily. 84 Speed EVs allow Primal Groudon to outspeed neutral-natured, uninvested base 100 Speed Pokemon. 248 Special Defense EVs allow Primal Groudon to take hits from Xerneas and Primal Kyogre better.

Latios @ Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Main Role:
4 attacks Latios opens huge holes in the opposing team while also providing essential defensive synergy to the squad.

Specific Traits:
Latios's sheer offensive power and good movepool let it walk over balanced and stall teams. Its coverage moves allow it to get past its checks. Finally, its good typing, special bulk, and ability let it check multiple Pokemon like Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, and some specially oriented Arceus formes.

Moves and EVs:
Draco Meteor is a very strong STAB move. Psyshock is used to hit specially bulky Pokemon really hard and act as a secondary STAB move that doesn't cut Latios's Special Attack. Grass Knot is used mainly to 2HKO Tyranitar and many Arceus formes like Rock Arceus and Water Arceus. Hidden Power Fire is used to get past Steel-types, which resist all of Latios's other attacks. Maximum Speed EVs are used to outspeed several Pokemon in the tier, especially Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Rayquaza, and bulky Arceus Formes. Finally, maximum special attack EVs with a Modest nature are chosen to hit as hard as possible.

Arceus @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Shadow Claw
- Refresh
- Swords Dance

Main Role:
With access to STAB Extreme Speed, Arceus's role is to revenge kill Pokemon like Xerneas, Shaymin-S, and Darkrai. It's also really good at cleaning offensive teams late-game.

Specific Traits:
Arceus possesses the useful ability to revenge kill foes with a very strong priority move. It's also able to set up easily by utilizing huge bulk. Once it sets up, it's really difficult for the opposing team to handle it, especially if it's an offensive team.

Moves and EVs:
Extreme Speed, an 80 Base Power STAB priority move, is what makes this Arceus forme so special. Shadow Claw is used to hit ghost types immune to Extreme speed. Swords Dance is used to boost it's attack and Refresh to remove burns specially the ones coming from special Ghost Arceus who has no other way to touch it. Max Speed is used to speed tie with other Arceus Formes, specially other Extreme Killers, as well as base 110 speed Pokemon like Latios and Mega Diancie.

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 208 Def / 252 SpA / 48 Spe
Modest Nature
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Rock]
- Geomancy

Main Role:
Xerneas is used as an offensive Pokemon that is also able to switch into a variety of opposing threats. With Geomancy, Xerneas is able to break through several bulky Pokemon that Extreme Killer Arceus is unable to Geomancy Xerneas also provides an offensive check to opposing Extreme Killer Arceus and may be used as a secondary check to Darkrai.

Specific Traits:
Xerneas's Fairy typing and solid bulk allow it to switch into Latios, Latias, Mega Sableye, Giratina-O, and Yveltal, which is needed for this team, as all of these threats have the capability to threaten other key members. A Fairy Aura-boosted Moonblast allows Xerneas to deal significant chip damage to Pokemon even when unboosted, wearing down foes even further in conjunction with Toxic Spikes.

Moves and EVs:
Geomancy and Moonblast are the primary moves for this Xerneas set, allowing it to have a large enough damage output to OHKO most Pokemon that don't resist Moonblast. Hidden Power Rock and Focus Blast are optimal coverage choices, OHKOing Ho-Oh and maximizing damage against Primal Groudon, respectively. Aromatherapy is an option over Focus Blast in order to remove status ailments, primarily paralysis, from Xerneas, while also being able to provide marginal team support. The Speed EVs are used in order to be faster than Choice Scarf Genesect at +2, and the Special Attack EVs maximize Xerneas's damage output. Rather than investing largely in HP, this set elects to allocate the remaining EVs into Defense, making it harder for priority moves to revenge kill Xerneas and potentially allowing it to check Mega Salamence, although this comes at the cost at being slightly worse at switching into Pokemon like Yveltal.

Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Destiny Bond
- Protect

Main Role:
Mega Gengar traps and KOes the opponent's pokemon. It's mainly used on the team as an Extreme Killer Arceus check and as an effective way to remove dangerous sweepers and defensive Pokemon with the combination of Destiny Bond and Shadow Tag.

Specific Traits:
Mega Gengar's most useful trait is the defensive synergy it provides by trapping and KOing dangerous offensive threats as well as the opponent's checks to Xerneas and Extreme Killer Arceus. It can also remove defensive Pokemon like Tyranitar. It can also use its Ghost typing to block Rapid Spin and its Poison typing to remove Toxic Spikes from its side of the field.

Moves and EVs:
Shadow Ball is used as Mega Gengar's main STAB move, hitting Defog users immune to Toxic Spikes such as Latias, Latios, and Giratina-O really hard. Focus Blast is used to hit Extreme Killer Arceus, Rock Arceus, and Ferrothorn for super effective damage. Protect is used to Mega Evolve Gengar safely and make it faster than all Arceus formes, Darkrai, and Shaymin. Finally, Destiny Bond is essential to KO a dangerous Pokemon that is not in range of any of Mega Gengar's attacks. Maximum Speed EVs are used to outspeed Arceus, Darkrai, and Shaymin and to Speed tie with Mewtwo. Maximum Special Attack EVs are used to hit as hard as possible.

Main Threats

Mega Gengar is able to absorb Toxic Spikes and laugh at anything Scolipede does. It can revenge kill Latios, Arceus, and unboosted Xerneas as well as force trades with just about anything on the team.

Mega Sableye is able to deny Scolipede of its hazards quite effectively and perform well against all the physical attackers on this team, although there are ways to break through it.

Rayquaza variants with Extreme Speed can potentially get away with setting up on Scolipede, while Choice Band variants can threaten Primal Groudon, Xerneas, and Latios after taking prior damage. There aren't many ways to deal with Rayquaza other than revenge killing it with Arceus or Mega Gengar.

+
Tyranitar leads well against Scolipede, while the team, to some extent, can struggle to deny Excadrill from using Rapid Spin. Excadrill under sand threatens everything on the team other than Primal Groudon.

Mega Salamence can potentially set up on some Pokemon on this team, particularly Arceus. Although clever play can limit its ability to set up, there is no direct switch-in to it, and Xerneas can be OHKOed by Adamant Double-Edge.

Because it's good at leading against Scolipede and can OHKO the team's only switch-in to Normal-type moves in Mega Gengar, Mega Kangaskhan can be an annoyance to the team.
