Break This Team: OM Edition! Week 6: Megamons

Approved by Eevee General and The Immortal
Taken from Break This Team: OU Edition

...You wake up to the sound of your mobile ringing, you answer and hear "Come to my lab, quickly!" It is Prof. Oak's voice. You get up from the bed and hurry to the lab to be welcomed by bad news.

"Disaster!"

"What's up Prof?"

"We thought that we stopped Team Rocket, but we were wrong! They are back but this time they are closer to world domination. Let me explain! They have entered the Other Meta village and stole a bunch of teams of experienced battlers! You cannot beat them by using regular teams, you must build specific teams to counter them, I have sent Gengar to spy on them and get me information. On the counter beside you there's a note which contains all the rules and information that I have obtained. Goodluck!"

You pick up the letter and read it:

Team Rocket has acquired powerful teams but it's your job to find a core of two or three Pokemon to beat that team! This project aims at seeing how certain Pokemon that work together can exploit said weakness, in other words cores that can break teams. This can help fine tune teams in order to prevent them from getting destroyed by a simple core.

Rules:

I- Each week I will pick a team during the week and everyone will be able to talk about what breaks the team and submit their own cores in other words submit a core that threatens the team and why? (Monday to Friday)

II- Cores must contain 2-3 Pokemon and sets as well at least 2 lines of description explaining how that core destroys the team except for 1v1 where only 1 Pokemon will be needed. In addition all Pokemon nominated must be on the Viability Rankings of the OM picked.

III- At the end of the week (Saturday and Sunday) users will be able to vote on the core they think is the most threatening to the team. Each person will be allowed 2 votes.

IV- Winner will be placed in the Hall of Fame with their winning core.

NB: As of Week 2 editing votes is not allowed.

Week I: 1v1!

This is the team I've used to peak the 1v1 ladder with 1800~ ELO, it focuses on bulky offense. There's nothing to add, I started teambuilding around Kyurem-Black because it was a monstrous threat in the metagame already. I've studied it's bulk and movepool and got the idea of running a Weakness Policy set. Due to it's sheer bulk and force Kyurem-Black finds itself able to sponge hits physically, and retaliate back. It can take some special hits but suffers to an extent. Seeing that I was weak to Mega Mawile other special hitters, I have added a Charizard X but, mixed it with salt and pepper to get the famous Counter zard originally initiated by a friend of mine. How I love, how much it catches opponent by surprise, it checks so much of the meta. Lastly, seeing that I was pretty weak to special attackers and I wanted to keep the bulky offense trend I added Meloetta.

クーレンブラック (Kyurem-Black) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 212 HP / 28 Atk / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Outrage
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Roost

チャリザード ズ (Charizard) @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Flare Blitz
- Counter

メロエッタ (Meloetta) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Beam
- Trick
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball

I'm ready break my team!

Laxpras

One small yeet for man, one giant yeet for mankind

Mega Tyranitar
As far as I can tell, this auto-wins, barring stone miss.

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Rock Slide

Meloetta:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Energy Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Tyranitar in Sand: 182-216 (53.3 - 63.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Mega Tyranitar Crunch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 422-500 (104.4 - 123.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Charizard:
+1 0 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Outrage vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Tyranitar: 220-261 (64.5 - 76.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252+ Atk Mega Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Charizard X: 428-506 (118.8 - 140.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Mega Tyranitar Rock Slide vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Charizard X: 320-380 (88.8 - 105.5%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

Kyurem:
28 Atk Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Tyranitar: 147-174 (43.1 - 51%) -- 3.1% chance to 2HKO
+1 252+ Atk Mega Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 212 HP / 252+ Def Kyurem-B: 462-546 (104 - 122.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

There's not much to say. This flat out tanks Melo and OHKOs with crunch, and tanks anything from kyurem to get a +1 boost to OHKO with stone edge. It tanks a +1 Outrage from Char X to OHKO back will Stone Edge as well, or a roll from rock slide.

The only way this loses is if stone edge misses, so actually it will probably lose pretty often.

Leggo....

This works pretty well by its self and are pretty standard. LO kyu-b takes care of pretty much everything. Especially with earth power/outrage combo OHKOing everything, with earth power + outrage and access to reliable recovery. Also has access to sub which can troll with zard-x a bit.

252 Atk Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 386-456 (95.7 - 113.1%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Charizard X: 416-494 (115.5 - 137.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 212 HP / 252+ Def Kyurem-B: 447-530 (100.6 - 119.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 20 SpA / 236 Spe
Mild Nature
- Roost / Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt
- Outrage

E: Idk why I gave 2 mons at first l0l

Porygon-Z @ Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 SpA / 8 SpD / 248 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Beam
- Dark Pulse
- Zap Cannon
- Trick

This set was built last year especially to snipe deg when he still was the king of 1v1.
1. pick pory-z
2. click hyper beam.
3. win.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Porygon-Z Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Meloetta: 446-526 (110.3 - 130.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Porygon-Z Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 16 SpD Kyurem-B: 592-698 (130.3 - 153.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Porygon-Z Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard X: 634-746 (176.1 - 207.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Nice mega alt weak team :)

Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Giga Impact
- Dragon Dance
- Roost
- Substitute

Meloetta:
252+ Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Giga Impact vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Meloetta: 384-453 (95 - 112.1%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Not much to say here really it just dies, if you aren't real enough and afraid of that 32.2% chance click sub and dd your way to victory :]

Charizard:
+2 252+ Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Giga Impact vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Charizard X: 415-489 (115.2 - 135.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 0 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 60 HP / 4 Def Mega Altaria: 192-227 (62.7 - 74.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Basically, dragon dance with charizard x to prevent the counter kill until you reach +2

Kyurem-b:
252+ Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Giga Impact vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Kyurem-B: 446-528 (98.2 - 116.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

Thats all really for kyurem-b since it can't bounce back with its relatively slow speed

Worst case scenario would be a miss, generally the ev spread is the best since it only needs 240 speed to outpace everything

Whimsicott @ Occa Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 160 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Taunt

This can beat any of the three without being haxed. The EV spread is pretty much irrelevant, since neither Defense nor Special Defense investment is actually needed to beat this team, but with the Special Defense investment above, you can live an Air Slash from Mega Charizard Y, which can be nice, and also beat Psychic Specs Meloetta. You only sacrifice the ability to beat Adamant Mega Charizard X and some more obscure Fire-types like Victini by not investing fully in Defense. Without further ado, here's how to beat the Hotel Books team:

Kyurem-Black:
0 SpA Teravolt Kyurem-B Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 160+ SpD Whimsicott: 218-258 (67.2 - 79.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Just hope you don't get frozen or miss Leech Seed, then win.

Charizard-Mega-X:
0 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 96 Def Occa Berry Whimsicott: 216-255 (66.6 - 78.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Just hope you don't get burned or miss Leech Seed, then win.

Meloetta:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 160+ SpD Whimsicott: 136-160 (41.9 - 49.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Protect Turn 1, then Substitute if they show Trick or Leech Seed if they use Shadow Ball and hope you don't miss Leech Seed, then win.

Dank band chomp go!

It ohkoes everything on this team, and ive used it to cteam Deg on ladder when he has used this team before. It also takes a plus 1 mega gyarados outrage with this spread, and therefore beats it, which it has over fast band chomp. It also takes an outrage from mega Mence, and profits, and beats Chansey unless they recover over charm first turn. As I said it also ohkoes everything on deg's team. (GONNA post calcs tommorow since I have to sleep sorry q_q)

Not that it matters for megamence, since its banned, but what are you talking about regarding mega mence and gyarados?

Note neither are even adamant

EDIT: Also this loses to counter Zard

Assuming the Zard doesnr mega evolve, use stone edge, also most gyarados don't run Max attack, cause I've definitely tanked a +1 outrage more than once on the ladder.

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magician
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Hyper Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hyperspace Fury
- Knock Off

Outspeeds and OHKOs everything on that team.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Hoopa Unbound Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Charizard: 377-444 (104.7 - 123.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hoopa Unbound Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard X: 377-444 (104.7 - 123.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

4 Atk Hoopa Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 404-476 (100.2 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

So, it only loses if something misses.

メロエッタ (Meloetta) @ Choice Specs

252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard X: 457-538 (126.9 - 149.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Hyper Beam vs. 212 HP / 16 SpD Kyurem-B: 429-505 (96.6 - 113.7%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO, better than trying to hit a stone edge tbh

Otherwise just bring a rock type and win.

Yeah I posted more than one but they're litteraly all the same.

It may look like Lee loses this fight, but with Flare Blitz and Outrage acting as Charizard's only attacks, either the recoil, or chance of damaging itself will push Zard to an uncomfortable point in which it risks being KO'd

If that set didn't satisfy your needs, here's a set that wins without even laying a hand on you.

0 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Outrage vs. 252 HP / 168 Def Deoxys-D: 126-148 (41.4 - 48.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
It would take an incredibly inconvenient timing of landing a critical hit combined with taunt wearing off that turn and/or a burn for Charizard to win.
You essentially have 12 uses of Flare Blitz to pray for hax or you guaranteed lose.

Mega Gyarados has a field day against this team.

Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 182 HP / 246 Atk / 4 SpD / 76 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Taunt
- Outrage
- Dragon Dance

This spread allows for Gyara to barely outspeed the entire team, while still providing the bulk required to shut down all members.

Now for how it beats each member:

252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Hyper Beam vs. 182 HP / 4 SpD Mega Gyarados: 318-375 (84.5 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Energy Ball vs. 182 HP / 4 SpD Mega Gyarados: 254-300 (67.5 - 79.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

246 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Crunch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 368-434 (91.3 - 107.6%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

Although the spread makes Gyara miss out on the OHKO, it is still able to bulk all of Melo's attacks, and subsequently kill turn 2 if it doesn't kill turn 1

-1 28 Atk Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 182 HP / 0 Def Mega Gyarados: 130-154 (34.5 - 40.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

+1 246 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Outrage vs. 212 HP / 252+ Def Kyurem-B: 320-378 (72 - 85.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Thanks to intimidate, Kyurem-B's outrage now 3HKO as opposed to 2HKO. Due to the lack of fusion bolt, Gyara isn't threatened that much. The only possible issue that could arise is roost stalling for confusion, but Gyara can dragon dance turn 1 for free no matter what. If Kyurem-B goes for roost, its a free dd for Gyara, or if Kyurem-B goes for Outrage, it is locked into it, allowing for Gyara to attack with outrage and 2HKO.

-1 0 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Outrage vs. 182 HP / 0 Def Mega Gyarados: 130-154 (34.5 - 40.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

246 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Charizard X: 200-236 (55.5 - 65.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

This is where taunt makes a huge impact. Not only does it threaten things like Chansey and Deo-d in the regular meta, but it shuts down Zard-X on this team. Since Gyara outspeeds, it can taunt Zard, forcing it to only be able to outrage/counter/flare blitz. This allows Gyara to set up for free, since flare blitz does minimal (assuming no burns), counter doesn't affect set up, and outrage locks Zard into attacking. Furthermore, since you can't mega when locked into outrage (I tested), Charizard is practically forced to mega if it wants any chance at damage. Even if Zard mega evolves and uses outrage turn 1 on the taunt, it can only 3HKO, allowing for Gyara to outspeed and outrage the next two turns, killing Zard before Zard kills Gyara

Naturally, crits can shake up the game, but assuming those don't happen, Mega Gyara definitely breaks this team.

ROCK ROCK ROCK ROCK ROCK!

I welcome you the Crustle!

DEG's Nightmare (Crustle) @ Custap Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Counter
- Rock Wrecker
- X-Scissor

The buttons below will demonstrate why the team is weak to this Crustle.

Kyurem-Black may have the defense and all but Crustle is able to survive at least one move it gets hit by and use Shell Smash while surviving Outrage (252+ Atk Crustle Rock Wrecker vs. 212 HP / 252+ Def Kyurem-B: 312-368 (70.2 - 82.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO) and then using Rock Wrecker to OHKO Kyurem-Black (+2 252+ Atk Crustle Rock Wrecker vs. 212 HP / 252+ Def Kyurem-B: 624-734 (140.5 - 165.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO). Since Kyurem-Black has Weakness Policy instead of Choice Scarf, it wouldn't be able to outspeed Crustle. Counter is another good option against Kyurem-Black, but it's more risky since Kyurem-Black's only physical move is Outrage.

The Charizard-Mega-X does not have Substitute nor Will-o-Wisp which forces it to get OHKOed by Rock Wrecker at all costs after one shell smash which the Charizard also allows Crustle to set up. Without the Shell Smash, Crustle has a 31.3% chance to OHKO. I suggest that a Crustle user would use Shell Smash while it has the easy chance to. Also, Crustle can survive both of Charizard-Mega-X's moves especially since it has no Atk investment in EVs. (0 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Crustle: 174-205 (61.9 - 72.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO)

Mostly the same thing with Charizard-Mega-X. Meloetta's moves cannot OHKO Sturdy which allows Crustle to set up KO with X-Scissor right away. This case is over right? Wrong! Actually, Crustle would have to go through a fairly difficult Rock Paper Scissors match with Meloetta because Meloetta can use Shadow Ball or Trick. If Crustle uses Shell Smash after Meloetta uses Trick, the Crustle loses. If you just run X-Scissor against Meloetta and Meloetta uses Shadow Ball instead of Trick both turns (since they both 2HKO each other), the Crustle has an extremely low chance of winning because Custap Berry cannot be activated until Crustle reaches 25% HP or below (252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Crustle: 181-213 (64.4 - 75.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). If the Meloetta uses Shadow Ball, the Crustle would have a much higher chance of winning (252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Energy Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Crustle: 203-239 (72.2 - 85%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). If the Meloetta just uses Shadow Ball and the Crustle uses Shell Smash, the Crustle wins and if the Meloetta uses Trick while you just use X-Scissor, you win. I actually just discovered how tricky it could be. This doesn't mean Crustle is bad against this team, just more tricky to handle against Meloetta.

Dream Eater Gengar can use Meloetta to overcome his nightmares sometimes, but not all the time >:D.

If anyone didn't have that much knowledge about Crustle, it would seem to be extremely centralizing only leading users against it to hesitate and make mistakes on who to choose.
