Battle Maison Discussion & Records

I've noticed that I've been posting a lot of these IRC highlights lately. Ah well, helps to know the thought processes of a relatively-newer player, as well as just having experiences to share.

<Annasayshi> got the FWG chef
<Annasayshi> arcanine lead
<Annasayshi> intimidate procs
<Annasayshi> shoulld be a safe setup barring flare blitz critting
<Annasayshi> i won't have to worry about an espeed crit
<Annasayshi> since it never uses it if i'm not in ko range for a non-crit
<Annasayshi> so what has to happen
<Annasayshi> i misclicked
<Annasayshi> i clicked play rough
<Annasayshi> and flare blitz crits right out of the blue
<Annasayshi> fortunately blaziken can comfortably take any of its moves
<Annasayshi> barring a close combat crit
<Annasayshi> and I'm actually not protecting turn 1 to guard against a CC crit
<Annasayshi> CC was a high roll
<Annasayshi> Venusaur comes out
<Annasayshi> which means the last poke isn't threatening
<Annasayshi> i live FB recoil with 10 HP
<Annasayshi> Cradily4
<Annasayshi> so this is back to comfortable levels
<Annasayshi> and i saved the streak

<Annasayshi> facing intimidate punk guy
<Annasayshi> lead krookodile
<Annasayshi> intimidate procs as expected
<Annasayshi> can easily set up on all sets bar set 1
<Annasayshi> which of course it is
<Annasayshi> krook is down
<Annasayshi> staraptor
<Annasayshi> intimidate procs as expected
<Annasayshi> raptor is set 1

Hey everyone! I've finally reached the 1,000 battle mark in triples, and have decided its time to post it...

In XY Maison Super Triples, the win-count of my ongoing streak is 1,145. The current team in use (since battle 1041) is:

Greninja/Thundurus-I/M-Blaziken/Talonflame/Garchomp/Aegislash

#1,145

9FYG-WWWW-WW3G-EY8Z

(Greninja/Thundurus/M-Blaziken/Talonflame/Garchomp/Aegislash)

vs.

(Armaldo/Rampardos/Darmanitan/Chesnaught/Cradily/Gallade)

Close battles:

#843

C75W-WWWW-WW3D-VEDU

(Musharna/Smeargle/Octillery/M-Mawile/Marowak/Clawitzer)

vs.

(Forretres/Aromatisse/Slowking/Dusknoir/Reuniclus/Cofagrigus)

#804

CM56-WWWW-WW3D-VEY4

(Musharna/Smeargle/Octillery/M-Mawile/Marowak/Gardevoir)

vs.

(Thundurus/Zapdos/Articuno/Latias/Landorus/Suicune)

Team Greninja/Thundurus-I/M-Blaziken

Greninja@Focus Sash

Nature: Timid

Ability: Protean

- Mat Block

- Dark Pulse

- Ice Beam

- Grass Knot

IVs: 31/X/31/31/31/31

EVs: 4HP/4Def/252Spa/4Sp.Def/244Spe

Greninja provides the typical Mat Block support, allowing Thundurus to safely Volt Switch or cripple threats with Taunt. This also gives M-Blaziken time to boost with Swords Dance or wreak havoc. Dark Pulse, Ice Beam, and Grass Knot provide the usual Greninja Dark/Ice/Grass coverage. Scald is always an option over Dark Pulse or Grass Knot, but in combination with this particular team, it hasn't proved nearly as useful. Credit goes to turskain for EVs' speed/bulk exchange.

Thundurus-I@Sitrus Berry

Nature: Modest

Ability: Prankster

- Thunderbolt

- Grass Knot

- Volt Switch

- Taunt

IVs: 31/X/30/31/30/31

EVs: 164HP/72Def/252Sp.A/8Sp.Def/12Spe

Similar to the one in brakerider's team, Thundurus serves as an effective center electric-type. Thunderbolt is an obvious STAB choice, and although redundant (considering Greninja), Grass Knot provides good coverage in general. I swapped in Volt Switch in place of Thunderwave because, even forty battles in, I never had to use the move once. Volt Switch, on the other hand, is quite useful in conjunction with Mat Block to safely bring in one of the back-ups. Taunt has proved invaluable, especially as a counter to those pesky Trick Room setters and common Thunderwave users (e.g. Regice4, Luxray4, Zebstrika4). I originally used brakerider's spread, which was excellent, but in the end opted for Modest and powerful to take care of Charizard and Moltres.

I tailored the EVs to give it just enough bulk to survive Darmanitan4 (Choice Scarf) and Donphan4's (Quick Claw) Stone Edge, which are usually OHKOs. The 12 speed EVs give it 133 speed, allowing it to outspeed base 80s and avoid the speed tie with Blaziken. It's similar to Rotom-W in its speed and (thanks to the Sitrus Berry) its bulk, but has less power overall. For this team, however, Thundurus is a slightly better choice, seeing as it has access to priority Taunt and doesn't suffer Choice Specs' drawbacks.

M-Blaziken@Blazikenite

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Speed Boost --> Speed Boost

- Flare Blitz

- Low Kick

- Swords Dance

- Protect

IVs: 31/31/31/X/31/31

EVs: 252Atk/12Def/244Spe

As demonstrated by The Dutch Plumberjack's doubles team, Mega Blaziken is an awesome lead paired with Greninja. I tried three attacks (Flare Blitz, Earthquake, and Low Kick) for a time, but Swords Dance soon proved to be more effective and better in last-Pokemon situations. A +2 Flare Blitz even OHKOs Latios234 and has a 56% to OHKO Latias234. I also experimented with another set (Flare Blitz/High Jump Kick/Hone Claws/Protect), but the accuracy fix was trickier than it was worth, and a +2 Low Kick is similar in power to High Jump Kick anyway. The EVs give Mega-evolved Blaziken enough defense to survive Aerodactyl4's non-crit Earthquake, and even though speed is dropped a point, by turn two it still outspeeds Pinsir4.

Talonflame@Sharp Beak

Nature: Adamant

Ability: Gale Wings

- Brave Bird

- Flare Blitz

- Tailwind

- Protect

IVs: 31/31/31/X/31/31

EVs: 252HP/252Atk/4Sp.Def

Talonflame fills the obvious role of powerful priority attacker, and has great synergy with Garchomp. In some Talonflame sets Taunt is run, but I prefer Flare Blitz as a powerful secondary STAB. The EVs are pretty standard and the four Sp. Def EVs (as opposed to Def) are to deny the special-oriented Porygons an extra Sp. Attack boost.

Garchomp@Life Orb

Nature: Jolly

Ability: Rough Skin

- Earthquke

- Dragon Claw

- Swords Dance

- Protect

IVs: 31/31/31/X/31/31

EVs: 12HP/236Atk/4Def/4Sp.Def/252Spe

Garchomp has a powerful spread attack that is relatively easy to spam, given Mat Block, Wide Guard, and Thundurus and Talonflame's immunity. It has Dragon Claw as an important single-target attack and secondary STAB, Swords Dance for an edge in last-Pokemon situations, and Protect as a good defense against double-targeting. Credit goes to turskain for the EVs.

Aegislash@Weakness Policy

Nature: Quiet

Ability: Stance Change

- Shadow Ball

- Flashcannon

- Wide Guard

- King's Shield

IVs: 31/X/31/31/31/0

EVs: 252HP/252Sp.Atk/4Sp.Def

Aegislash fills the practically mandatory steel-type role, and is particularly good for a rock-type switch in (especially vs. Terrakion2) when Garchomp is unavailable. It provides good support through Wide Guard, especially since this team has two Pokemon vulnerable to Blizzard, two to Earthquake, two to Rockslide, and two to Surf. I opted for special Aegislash rather than the more common physical one, primarily because I wanted to run Wide Guard and physical really prefers to include Sacred Sword.

When using this team, one needs to look out for common threats. These include:

Jolteon1234

- it's faster than Greninja

- can paralyze/flinch Greninja, preventing Mat Block from going up (leaving Blaziken/Thundurus open to attack)

Electrode4

- it's faster than Greninja

- can paralyze Greninja

Manectric4

- it's faster than Greninja

- can paralyze Greninja

Aerodactyl4

- it's faster than Greninja

- can OHKO Thundurus w/ Stone Edge

Terrakion2

- it's faster than Greninja

- can OHKO Thundurus w/ Stone Edge

Landorus

- it's faster than Greninja

- can OHKO Blaziken w/ Extrasensory

Donphan4

- has Quick Claw

- can OHKO Blaziken w/ Earthquake/Fissure

- can OHKO Greninja w/ Fissure/Seed Bomb

Regice4

- it has Thunderwave

Luxray4

- it has Thunderwave

Weavile4

- has Fake Out

- has Taunt

- has Focus Sash

Infernape4

- has Fake Out

- has Focus Sash

Zebstrika4

- it has Thunderwave

- it has Focus Sash

Crobat4

- it's faster than Greninja

- it has Taunt

- it has Hypnosis

Zapdos2

- it has Bright Powder

- it has Roost

- it has Double Team

- can boost w/ Charge Beam

- can burn w/ spread Heat Wave

Latios2/Latias2

- has Lax Incense

Other threats include multiple Trick Room users, especially Slowbro, Slowking, and Aromatisse (who are immune to Taunt)

I'm certain that this team has infinitely more blind spots, but these are the first ones that come to mind.

The battles usually play out like this:

TURN #1

Greninja:

- uses Mat Block

Thundurus:

- attack

- Taunt

- Volt Switch

M-Blaziken:

- Swords Dance

- attack

~ Protect

Turn 2 --> the battles are pretty easy.

Obviously this team is not untouchable, but so far it has served me well.

Other teams that I've used in my current streak:

Musharna/Smeargle/Octillery/M-Mawile/Marowak/Clawitzer (736-935)

Hello! I am pretty new here and I wanted to post about getting all 5 trophies in ORAS! I can post about my teams and all that if needed. I have the five Chatelaine battle video codes as well as an image here for proof!

Picture: http://imgur.com/ZaXmkHx

Single video code: B3ZG-WWWW-WW3G-KYZ8
Double video code: TFMW-WWWW-WW3G-KYPB
Triple video code: PE9G-WWWW-WW3G-KYRW
Rotations video code: CHJG-WWWW-WW3G-KYMA
Multi battle video code: AUZG-WWWW-WW3G-KYNF

This was definitely a big challenge, especially the unpredictable rotation battles!! currently I'm at 68 wins in it and hoping to make the leaderboard for that category as well Multi Battle with Steven Stone!

This is the team I plan to use in super singles. Anyone have any suggestions for moveset changes or which item i should put on Scizor? Scizor is the poke I think I need the most help with.

As a general rule of thumb for a singles run its good to have a sub user, which could be scizor (sub/Sdance/Bpunch/Bbite or aerial ace) as if u can sit behind a sub and use 3 sword dances there's not much surviving a +6 bullet punch. You've obv gone for dragon/steel/fairy def core and with some bulky poke so it's a good start but you got no hp replenish and in the maison there's not much switching (unless ur switch stalling pp) as the AI don't switch out unless band locked on a non-effective move. AI wil set up on you (curse, double team etc) so u need ur own set up poke to be able to cope with that

<Annasayshi> huh
<Annasayshi> just found a little bit of odd AI behavior
<Annasayshi> I was facing a Samurott4 with my full health Azu
<Annasayshi> the samurott was at around 50%
<Annasayshi> so i decided to risk a belly drum
<Annasayshi> however, the samurott, instead of going for the most-damaging Grass Knot or the reasonable Protect, decided to use Ice Beam
<Annasayshi> I got a low roll on aqua jet the next turn, and even though I was barely outside of Grass Knot KO range, it decided to go for Hydro Pump
<Annasayshi> I believe similar behavior was shown with Tornadus1
<Annasayshi> but Samurott4 seems like odd behavior

<Annasayshi> i just got the same AI gk misunderstanding
<Annasayshi> with ludicolo4
<Annasayshi> it used hydro pump twice
<Annasayshi> once of which was when i was in GK ko %

Weird AI behavior concerning weight-dependent moves(For reference, Azumarill weighs 60 BP). The Tornadus1 test was performed using a variety of different mons with different weights, however, it'd be interesting to see the results with a user with fewer attacking moves that grant less coverage.

HeadsILoseTailsYouWin check out this post and the following, turskain and I did some tests re. Grass Knot behaviour a couple months ago. It seems as though they pretty much won't use GK at all on Pokemon below 80 kg (disregarding 4x weaks). The AI not using GK on Azumarill is pretty much perfectly in line with that (though our tests were with Hurrrnadus, so even without that baseline it wasn't too weird that it'd prefer Hurricane--Samurott doing whatever really really strengthens that result.) Though the specifics would require more testing, that at least was one turning point we were pretty confident about iirc.

If you want to do some more tests, go right on ahead, and I should still have the battle video I used for testing lying around somewhere.

<Annasayshi> facing rasmus
<Annasayshi> lead garchomp
<Annasayshi> i could risk a play rough
<Annasayshi> but that'd cost me the streak if it's set 3
<Annasayshi> knock off is the safest play
<Annasayshi> i hate it
<Annasayshi> but i have to do it
<Annasayshi> it was set 4
<Annasayshi> using SD
<Annasayshi> i hate to have to sac azu
<Annasayshi> but low kick won't do enough without the sac
<Annasayshi> worker rasmus lead chomp is just horrible for my team
<Annasayshi> cradily3
<Annasayshi> okay if that's his second mon then i shouldn't have to worry about his last
<Annasayshi> eq crit
<Annasayshi> tyranitar
<Annasayshi> that could have gone wrong so many different ways
<Annasayshi> if the garchomp had been rough skin it would have been a nail biter

<Annasayshi> got an armaldo4 lead from the next trainer
<Annasayshi> a ch stone edge high roll ohkos azu
<Annasayshi> even after i've knocked off the band
<Annasayshi> and against workers I can't spare any recoil
<Annasayshi> nidoqueen4 comes out second
<Annasayshi> this looks like i'm doomed
<Annasayshi> there's a sliver of hope
<Annasayshi> if i get a crit or burn flare blitz
<Annasayshi> nidoqueen is neutralized
<Annasayshi> and if it's rivalry
<Annasayshi> i survive eq, but only with no recoil
<Annasayshi> let's try to find out its ability
<Annasayshi> it used EQ
<Annasayshi> which means it isn't rivalry
<Annasayshi> otherwise it would have gone for bulldoze
<Annasayshi> now i have to pray for either poison point or a flare blitz crit/burn
<Annasayshi> poison point can't ohko sylveon
<Annasayshi> and it's possible that the final poke is something sylv can beat
<Annasayshi> holy shit
<Annasayshi> i got a burn
<Annasayshi> but the recoil killed me
<Annasayshi> now i have to finish the final poke with what could be a sylveon at as low as 24% health
<Annasayshi> locked into hyper voice
<Annasayshi> i have to pray for a favorable last poke
<Annasayshi> it's sheer force
<Annasayshi> whiscash4
<Annasayshi> oh my god
<Annasayshi> i outspeed it by one point
<Annasayshi> now i just have to pray for no fissure
<Annasayshi> muddy water can't KO
<Annasayshi> it used muddy water
<Annasayshi> holy shit
<Annasayshi> that was insane
<Annasayshi> i can't believe that just happened

<Annasayshi> carracosta comes out second against a ranger
<Annasayshi> with blaze in aqua jet range
<Annasayshi> thankfully it didn't use it
<Annasayshi> and sturdy has been broken
<Annasayshi> crit flinch on sylveon
<Annasayshi> click belly drum on azu and pray
<Annasayshi> and oml i'm at +6 versus another whiscash4
<Annasayshi> whiscash4 is the true mvp of this streak
<Annasayshi> even the battles against veterans are less tense than these past 3

This streak has saved itself too many times for me to count. I swear, I should never have gotten this far with such an unreliable team.

<turska> it's only because blaziken/azu/sylveon (was that your team?) is such a bad line-up that you have to be making silly plays on lopunny4 and get into near-losses so often in the first place
<Annasayshi> ik
<Annasayshi> i know its awful
<Annasayshi> it's no longer the worst lineup though
<Annasayshi> after the guy posted about a team with random EVs
<Annasayshi> tbh i no longer care how far i get once i get starf berry
<Annasayshi> if i miraculously hit 200 with azu/blaze then ill switch to kangliscune
<Annasayshi> the thing is
<Annasayshi> i made azu/blaze fully knowing that it'd never hit a top spot on the leaderboard
<Annasayshi> hell, my original goal when i made it was simply to beat nita
*** sb_the_great2 has joined #battlemaison
<Annasayshi> but if i can hit 200 wins with a horribly suboptimal team
<Annasayshi> well
<Annasayshi> that just shows that the odds are ever in my favor

<Annasayshi> um
<Annasayshi> wow
<Annasayshi> that's 200 wins with the worst team this channel has ever seen
<Annasayshi> I'd like to thank TeamRocketElite and NoCheese for making their trainer and pokemon lists
<Annasayshi> Whiscash4 for being a total champ and choking away near-certain wins from their trainers twice
<Annasayshi> and most of all, for making this run possible
<Annasayshi> the RNG

Posting a streak for Rotation battles! Lost in battle number 91 sadly, was definitely hoping for more but only have myself to blame.

Proof video: WEZG-WWWW-WW3H-HMEZ

Probopass Level 2@ Berry Juice
Ability: Sturdy
-Pain Split
-Protect
-Thunder Wave
- Smack Down

Kangaskhan@ Mega stone
Ability: Parental Bond
-Power-Up Punch
-Ice Punch
-Earthquake
-Fire Punch

Dragonite@ Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Rock slide
-Hurricane

Florges@ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Symbiosis
-Wish
-Aromatherapy
-Moonblast
-Psychic

The basic strategy here is to have Probopass come in and abuse its sturdy ability to break down the first 3 opponents. Berry Juice allows Probopass to take a risk on the very first move with Smack down or thunder wave, and then can use protect or pain split directly after. Obvious counters to this are taunt, hail, burn effects, and mold breaker. After Probopass has done his job, I would rotate in either Dragonite or Kangaskhan, depending on which had the greater advantage, power them up first turn and start sweeping from there. Florges was chosen mostly for Wish and Aromatherapy support, but definitely was able to 2 shot most opponents with Moonblast. Wish was especially fantastic for reviving Probopass for sturdy or Dragonite and his Multiscale.

Really really poor decision making. Brought Dragonite in and went straight for Outrage thinking I could get easy KO's after the pain split damage. Dragonite defeated by Noivern dragon pulse. Then that ridiculously quick infernape came in with flare blitz and close combat at all the right moments, quite devastating for Khangaskan and Florges who is weaker to physical attacks. But I suppose thats part of what makes rotation battles so challenging, the unpredictability! Probopass undone by a Will-o-wisp did not help me much either.

Thank you for your advice about scizor. I will use that set, and will think about options for hp replenish for my team.

So I know this isn't news to anyone here that has done multi battle with the AI before, but wow the AI is not smart. I didn't get as far with Steven Stone as I had wanted so I decided to give Wally a try. Battle 30 something his Magnezone is up against Aromatisse with healer ability. I figured he surely would go for flash cannon. nope. Went for thunderwave on the other trainer, which was immediately removed from healer. He then continued to do this the whole battle until he switched to thunder, which of course missed twice. Magnezone went down from like 6 or 7 Dazzling gleams, literally just dazzling gleam. I suppose its partly my own fault for getting wiped out as well, but like dang. I guess I'll just go back to triple battles now, hoping to post a streak for that soon!

Doesn't know how to attack
Remember this post from a month ago?
Hello, I have gotten a streak of 243 in Triples, but I believe that I could do better. My team is built more around killing stuff with the sun than synergy, but with the sheer power I have, synergy is overrated. :P

Typhlosion (Pompeii)
Ability: Blaze
Modest @ Choice Scarf
4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe

- Eruption
- Filler Heat Wave
- Filler Solar Beam
- Focus Blast Filler

Strategy: What strategy? All I see is Eruption. If Pompeii gets below 1/3 Health I switch out and go with Heat Wave when he returns. I can't remember the last time I used Solar Beam, and I know I never used Focus Blast.
Pompeii is my left lead and destroys almost everything.

Charizard (リザードン)
Ability: Blaze
Modest @ Charizardite Y
252 SpA/252 Spe

- Heat Wave
- Solar Beam
- Dragon Pulse
- Protect

Strategy: Heat Wave! Coverage is there if I need it (which I usually don't) and Protect is used if a Fast Rock or Electric type is out. If I have to face those two turns in a row, I switch to Mr. Huggy instead of risking a second Protect. (My Garchomp) The missing 4 EVs are missing so opponents target リザードン more than Pompeii. Anything that gets hit by Eruption and Heat Wave will get KOed unless it's bulky or has a Fire resist. The reason for the Modest Nature is that I got this from Wonder Trade before hacks started becoming a problem and believe that it's a legit flawless Japanese Charizard!
リザードン is my middle lead so that Pompeii is less likely to take damage.

Heioliolisk (ScreamingEft)
Ability: Solar Power
Timid @ Life Orb
4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe

- Hyper Voice
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Pulse
- Grass Knot

Strategy: The Red Eft is a type of Newt that looks really cool and Hyper Voice is weaponized screaming. ScreamingEft is the perfect nickname because is describes what he is and what he does. (Although it would work better if he was shiny.) Unlike Pompeii and リザードン, I actually think sometimes when choosing ScreamingEft's move. Sometimes I need a Rock Type dead or to reach across the field with Dragon Pulse, but most of the time ScreamingEft lives up to his name.
ScreamingEft is my right lead.

Garchomp (Mr. Huggy)
Ability: Rough Skin
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Jolly @ Expert Belt

- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Iron Head
- Protect

Strategy: Remember what I said about Synergy being overrated? Well it turns out you need synergy no madder how well you kill things. Mr. Huggy is the glue to this team because of how well he destroys Fire resists, his Rock resist, and not being nerfed by weather other than sun. Sending out Mr. Huggy in the middle is a very bad idea if Pompeii or ScreamingEft are still out, so he rarely take the middle.

Exeggutor (Killer Keg)
Ability: Chlorophyll
4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
Modest @ Choice Specs

- Solar Beam
- Psychic
- Energy Ball
- Sludge Bomb

Strategy: I figured that a Chlorophyll Pokemon could help patch some weaknesses and Exeggutor was the strongest one. Energy Ball is there in case other weather goes up and I need a Grass attack. Sludge Bomb may seem like an odd choice, but it was the only filler option other than Ancient Power, (No, it doesn't get Shadow Ball.) and I'd rather not breed for it unless people I don't know on the internet tell me that it's a good idea.

Talonflame (Sweat Pants)
Ability: Gale Wings
120 HP/252 Atk/136 Spe
Adamant @ Choice Band

- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Tailwind

Strategy: He just works. Adding a third Rock weakness to this team seems like a bad idea, but Sweat Pants just works for some reason. I'm pretty sure it's because I have enough way to deal with Rock types and Priority Brave Bird is just that good. The EVs are what they are because they're the EVs on the Talonflame I had laying around.

Right now, I'd say my team is weak against fast stuff that can KO my leads like Archeops and anything with base 110+ speed and Focus Blast against ScreamingEft. Opposing weather doesn't hurt as much as it seems like it would unless it's rain. Trick Room makes me worry, but well... just read what I said in the Dumbest Things the AI has done thread.

Thanks for reading (unless you skipped this wall of text and I don't blame you if you did :P) and I'm hoping that I could get some ideas to improve this team. I want to reach 300 wins. :D
Well I don't blame you if you don't. I'm posting to be placed on the leader board because I have reached my goal of 300 wins... and have been there for awhile. I chose to post now because I'm at 500 wins.

I've got some replays for this streak. Most of these make me wonder how I got past 300.

Battle #224 - 3S3W-WWWW-WW3Y-6US6 - Thoughts during this fight: I can't believe I'm getting pwnd by a Regi-friking-gigus!
Battle #292 - EC3G-WWWW-WW3Y-6VTD - So many things going wrong... Wait, why did I upload this?
Battle #330 - FD6G-WWWW-WW3Y-7XX7 - The opposing Torndus used Rain Dance. Climmy's eye used twitch.
Battle #423 - 4SJW-WWWW-WW3Y-72MF - The hax being in the opponent's favor doesn't madder when their team sucks. This is also the closest I've come to loosing so far.
Battle #441 - RP5W-WWWW-WW3Y-73U9 - Flygon Archeops and crapmon lead. Oh crap. I might have misplayed because of fear from facing the worst lead match up so far.
Battle #500 - VTVG-WWWW-WW3Y-6TSK - Battle 500. 'nuf said.

<Annasayshi> so all the 3 zapdos's I've faced so far have been set 2
<Annasayshi> the only zapdos i've faced that wasn't set 2 was from a set 3-4 veteran
<Annasayshi> i mean, it's not like it threatens my team unless it somehow burns gliscor with a combination of luck and "prediction"
<Annasayshi> but it always has the potential to make battles last way longer than they should
<Annasayshi> which is never pleasant

I was at 353 in singles when I posted that to IRC, so I think this could count as an "update" to a new streak. Look out Altissimo, I'm gaining on you.

Ah! Oh no, I haven't been playing any Maison lately so I'm still at like 491 or something :(((

Is this thread for theorymonning about the Maison and discussing team building or just for posting streaks?

Trying to build a team but struggling to get far past 50 in doubles or singles and don't want to straight copy one of the teams on here.

Well I've been using the Charizard Y (Modest, Spe & Spa investment) & Choicechomp (Adamant, Atk, Spe) lead which seems quite effective. I really like Choicechomp in mowing through a lot of things but with it then usually being locked into EQ then it means my backline has to consider this. Rules out Aegislash for one. I have been running Modest Zapdos which is powerful and has good offensive synergy but shares rock weakness and fragility with Charizard, also find that its usually Charizard which remains. I've also been running Cresselia because I figured Levitate was useful as well as bulk but I've found it just doesn't do very much to the other team later in the game.

So guess my main questions are, should I change CharY to Timid and/or more defensive investment?
Who are useful contenders for my backline? Figure I need something which can eat Rock attacks and not get hurt by EQ? Rotom-W?

part of your problem would be that most of your options of avoiding a big rock weakness would then give u a massive ice weakness (Lati twins/flygon/salamence etc) you could use hydreigon, who can usually take a kick in the groin and i'd be tempted to give the choice scarf to. Either way id take it away from chomp because if your not getting locked into a move that defeats your own teamates you get a lot more options! Sylveon could then be used over Cresselia who can give much the same in any team support your using Cres for but has hyper voice to bring a much bigger offensive presence to the table.
otherwise id be tempted to have a front row of mat block Greninja and lum berry/swords dance/jolly Garchomp so you get a +2 garchomp pulling the other team apart, ninja could swap out for char or zapdos, either of who could also give tailwind support if u find chomp getting outsped a problem and run heat wave to protect chomp from ice poke?

While I'm not a particular fan of Choice Chomp here (Choice Chomp really wants the power of Outrage, but that does not work well in doubles), remember that you can run Air Balloon if you want to pair Garchomp with Aegislash. I've had success with Air Balloon on back row Pokemon in triples to play better with (non-Choice) Garchomp, and if you plan to stick with lead Chomp, it's an option at least worth considering.

Currently at 200 wins in Triples at the maison, but I'm really worried about my final two pokemon, as basically the front 4 have been carrying me and I've had some close calls. I was hoping to get some theorymonning advice here for my back up choices.

Greninja Focus sash
Ability: Protean
- Mat Block
- U-turn
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse

Aron Berry Juice
Ability: Sturdy
- Protect
- Endeavor
- Shadow Claw
- Toxic

Dragonite Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

Zapdos Sitrus Berry -> Assault Vest
Ability: Static
- Thunderbolt
- Drill Peck
- Volt Switch
- Tailwind -> Heat Wave

Obviously the basic idea here is nothing new, U-Turn/Mat block/Volt Switch keeps Aron in the game much longer While Dragonite wreaks havoc after dragon dance. I switched to Heat wave/Assault vest on Zapdos because I brought in Suicune as a bulkier tailwind user. I was using Choice spec Eruption Typhlosion for a while but he got OHKO'd by EQ quite often. Other pokemon I have with EV training that I've been considering are Mega Kang with Fake out/return, Mega Blastoise (Water Spout/Aura Sphere), Florges (Aromatherapy and moonblast was awesome for me in Rotation battles) and Aegislash who is pretty awesome but gosh so many EQ users when running fear aron, and Tyranitar (also faces EQ/fighting weakness that I'm encountering a lot). I even nearly threw in a Wobbuffet with telepathy to help support in that middle spot, since EQ/Surf wouldn't hurt him and Destiny Bond is fun.

I find scarf/modest Hydregion and talonflame useful as backups in triples, both can hit across field with STAB moves, both will move first and both immune to earthquake (which Aron does attract a lot of!) for the middle slot you could have a hyper voice user ; mega Salamence, mega Gard or sylveon as back up to Aron since Aron doesn't switch out, he just stays there till he dies so bringing in one of those three at full health should clear up late game for you :)

(EDIT: I got spitbacks of 3 that I mentioned in my thread if u need)

I really appreciate the advice!! I all ready owned a mega Gardevoir (originally the Ralts gift from Diantha in XY) and I got a Hydreigon from a friend which made this easier. Currently running this as my back two:

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Synchronize
Nature: Modest
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic
- Energy Ball
- Trick Room

Hydreigon @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
- Hyper Voice
- Dark Pulse
- Dragon Pulse
- Tailwind

I'm still unsure on Gard's moveset, contemplating psyshock or thunderbolt. Trick room included only to undo opposing trick rooms that are very challenging.
Also considered Life Orb or something on Hydreigon, Or could move tailwind to another mon to allow for scarf like you suggested. He has a speed of 165 while in the maison so I'm pretty happy with that either way!

If you got timid and tailwind then you won't need a scarf, you may want the life orb if your not hitting hard enough though on Hydregion. Hyper voice > dazzling gleam on mega-gard as although it gets blocked by soundproof (rare to come by) it is more powerfull (with pixilate ability) and hits through sub users, which is usefull as there are a couple of sub/focus punch users in the maison.
I'm also assuming that your poke have 31iv's and ev trained ideally :)

Remember this post from a month ago?

Well I don't blame you if you don't. I'm posting to be placed on the leader board because I have reached my goal of 300 wins... and have been there for awhile. I chose to post now because I'm at 500 wins.
Nice streak, and I hope it continues to grow! I can't leaderboard you yet though, since your streak is still ongoing and you're at less than 1000 wins.

So I finally got around to starting a Super Singles streak. Not particularly far at the moment; I'm only a little halfway through the first 40 battles, but I figured I'd make a post about it anyway.

My goals as far as the Battle Maison goes are to 1. collect BP, and 2. get as far as I can with stuff no one else really thinks to use. I'm not aiming for a 1000+ streak with a Mega Kangaskhan team (if for no other reason than not liking Mega Kangaskhan all that much); I'm aiming for a 100+ streak with a Mega Beedrill team or something equally outlandish.

My first team, which I've titled "Experiment A," is a take on the Greninja/Dragonite/Bulky Setup Steel team that has a number of variations on the leaderboard. What's different about this one is the choice of bulky setup steel, which I'll get to in a moment.

Zeratul (Greninja) @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
Level: 50
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot

Standard Maison Greninja here, just with Scald over Surf. A few times I've wished I've had Surf's higher power, but a Scald burn makes dealing with Sturdy/Focus Sashes less of a pain.

Fafnyr (Dragonite) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Extreme Speed
- Fire Punch

Again, a pretty standard Maison Dragonite. However, Fafnyr has Extreme Speed over Earthquake. I could run both Fire Punch and Earthquake as per the norm, but I like having insurance against faster threats that Dragonite can't risk setting up against (e.g. Starmie4). As for why Fire Punch over Earthquake, this team doesn't have anything to really handle Ferrothorn without it, while the other two members of this team can handle most of the things that wall Fire Punch Dragonite.

Bismarck (Metagross) @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Hone Claws
- Substitute

Now this is something that needs explanation. Hone Claws is a boosting move that interests me, as it can override the common evasion boosts (including BrightPower/Lax Incense I believe, although I'm not sure on this one), so I decided to give it a go. I opted for Mega Metagross, one of my favorite Mega Evolutions, for the task of using it for its good synergy with Greninja and Dragonite and it's naturally high speed (although that base 70 speed before Mega Evolution has been an annoyance at times). The set is basically the BSS Substitute + Hone Claws set, with Iron Head over Zen Headbutt. While Hone Claws technically gives me the freedom to run Zen Headbutt, there's going to be times where I can't afford to set up and I don't want a Zenbutt miss to doom me.

My lead so far has been Greninja mostly because I want to kill lead Tyrantrum4 as fast as possible and Greninja can do that without locking itself into a move. I've been wondering if I should lead with Dragonite instead, as if it can set up on the first turn it'll lead to faster battles.

I had a hairy moment with a Speed Boost Yanmega1 early on; I didn't want to leave Greninja on it and so went out to Dragonite, but its Speed Boosts got out of control. Extreme Speed and a lucky Air Slash miss saved my hide. I'm thinking I could have played better against it, especially since it likes alternating between attacking and protecting. Beyond that I haven't been playing long enough to know what the biggest threats to this team are; I'm a little concerned about Raikou as this team's best way of dealing with it is Metagross's Earthquake (and it outspeeds Metagross even after Mega Evolution, opening the door for parahax and other unpleasantness), though.

Finally, some battle videos:
Vs. Nita (Normal Singles): HQGW-WWWW-WW3J-RA6V

On my attempted first run with this team, I accidentally selected normal Singles instead of Super Singles. I didn't realize my mistake until I couldn't find the name of the first trainer I faced on the Trainer List and then having said trainer send out an NFE. That run went about as uneventful as you might expect, although there was a moment where Greninja got flinched to death by a Poochyena's Sucker Punch. This battle isn't anything of note either; it's just Greninja OHKOing and 2HKOing Nita's team. I had it, so I figured I'd post it here anyway.

Vs. Madame Elizabeth, Beartic3 + Roserade3 + Vaporeon3 (Battle #22): R3KG-WWWW-WW3J-RA9H

The last battle before I decided to take a break. It's nothing particularly notable, though it is a good example of how Metagross can set up on status users. I'm not sure if I really needed to set up, but I wanted to ensure the 2HKO on Vaporeon.

Further updates to come in time. In the meantime, I may try some mock battles against opponents featured in other replays around here, just to make sure I have an idea on how to handle them.
