Week 6: Balto's Volcanion Fire!

A team which utilizes some new and underrated mono fire threats. It'l be interesting how Volcanion changes the countering of mono fire!

Killua (Fletchinder)
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Atk / 48 SpD / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Will-O-Wisp

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA

Calm Mind Mega Latias + Slowbro

Latias-Mega @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 180 Def / 80 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Stored Power
- Dragon Pulse

Slowbro @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam / Flamethrower / etc.
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave

Most Fire Monotypes struggle with Mega Latias unless they specifically prepare for it, and that team is no exception. It sets up on and walls most of the team, but since it doesn't like possible burns coming from Entei or a boosted Fletchinder, Slowbro is there to take both of those threats on. Additionally, you could run cleric support or Healing Wish Gardevoir as well to let Mega Latias finish of the team if it gets worn down early-game. Pretty straightforward.

Confluxx [Old]

Banned deucer.

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Earthquake
- Roost

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpD
Bold Nature

Victini @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- V-Create
- Bolt Strike
- U-Turn
- Blue Flare

Slowbro beats everything bar Charizard and Volcanion with the combination of Thunder Wave, Scald and Slack Off. Latios switches in on Charizard and Volcanion and and can beat them with Draco Meteor or get off a good amount of damage considering neither of those two have recovery. Roost is also there because although Latios switches in, it's definitely not for free, so roost can be used to stall out sun vs Charizard. Earthquake is there for Heatran which likes switching into a standard Latios. And finally if worst comes to worst Victini is there to spam Bolt Strikes which kills Charizard from full and Volcanion after a little damage has been done. There isn't a solid switch-in to Bolt Strike from Victini, but like previously mentioned Slowbro beats everything bar the two mons Victini's Bolt Strike beats/forces out so there's no reason for it not to just come back in and proceed to T-Wave and Scald.

Offensive Cobalion + Scarf Empoleon + Heatran

+

Cobalion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 64 SpA / 192 Spe
Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Volt Switch
- Close Combat

Empoleon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Rock Slide
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam

Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge
- Lava Plume

Heatran is the preferred lead, being able to tank a Close Combat from Infernape and break its sash with Earth Power. If Infernape isn't leaded Heatran can set rocks and Stone Edge vs Charizard if it tries to Defog. Stone Edge is preferred over Ancient Power since it has the higher change to OHKO. Heatran also switches into the opposing Scarf Heatran's Fire move, but if it has tanked a Close Combat from Infernape Heatran would be to weak to counter the other moves.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Heatran: 290-342 (75.1 - 88.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
If Charizard switches in predicting Rocks or an Earth Power (against Infernape) Heatran can tank a Focus Blast and proceed to OHKO with Stone Edge.
0- Atk Heatran Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 292-344 (98.3 - 115.8%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Heatran Ancient Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 256-304 (86.1 - 102.3%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
Even with a -Atk nature Stone Edge still has a better chance to OHKO.

252 Atk Infernape Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Heatran: 320-378 (82.9 - 97.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Heatran tanks a Close Combat and in return sets Rocks or breaks Infernapes Sash.
252+ SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Infernape: 284-336 (96.9 - 114.6%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

If you lead Heatran and Infernape is switched out anything except Charizard and Fletchinder will be taking a huge chunk from their hp and Heatran beats both of those pokemon 1v1 (barring hax)
252+ SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 236-278 (78.1 - 92%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heatran: 408-484 (126.3 - 149.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Entei: 274-324 (73.6 - 87%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Cobalion acts as a secondary Rocks setter that beats the Defogger 1v1, and can even scare it out while setting rocks due to the threat of Stone Edge. Cobalion's speed also lets it Volt Switch out of Entei and Volcanion, and once rocks are up it can deal with both with after rocks damage. The speed ev's let you outspeed Charizard, with the rest put into attack for Stone Edge and special attack.

252 Atk Life Orb Cobalion Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 546-645 (183.8 - 217.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Cobalion can scare out Charizard with the threat of Rocks, or OHKO it if it decides to stay in. If it switches out only Heatran can survive multiple Stone Edges (assuming Heatran sacrifices itself to break Infernape's Sash), and it fears being hit with a Close Combat.
252 Atk Life Orb Cobalion Stone Edge vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Entei: 252-299 (67.7 - 80.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Cobalion Stone Edge vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 190-224 (62.9 - 74.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Cobalion Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 377-447 (116.7 - 138.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Cobalion Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Infernape: 292-344 (99.6 - 117.4%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Cobalion Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Infernape: 162-192 (55.2 - 65.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Once Infernape's Sash is broken Empoleon can revenge kill it, and most pokemon get OHKOd or 2HKOd by Hydro Pump or Empoleon's coverage. Rock Slide hits Charizard harder than Hydro Pump in the sun, and HP Electric 3HKOs Volcanion (or 2HKO with Rocks up) so if you want to try your luck you can stay in for the KO.

252 SpA Empoleon Hidden Power Electric vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 128-152 (42.3 - 50.3%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Empoleon: 292-345 (94.4 - 111.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
If you stay in to KO and Fire Blast KOs, Heatran can come in for free and fire off Stone Edge or Earth Power.
252 SpA Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Entei: 408-482 (109.6 - 129.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 200 HP / 48 SpD Fletchinder: 500-590 (158.7 - 187.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Empoleon also tanks everything Heatran can throw at it and OHKO it with Hydro Pump
252 SpA Heatran Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Empoleon: 178-211 (57.6 - 68.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Empoleon: 196-232 (63.4 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heatran: 306-362 (94.7 - 112%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 426-504 (145.3 - 172%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Empoleon Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Charizard Y in Sun: 140-168 (47.1 - 56.5%) -- 78.5% chance to 2HKO
4 Atk Empoleon Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 236-280 (79.4 - 94.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

A lot of Empoleon's KOs rely on the sun not being up, because even with Rocks up Empoleon will fail to OHKO almost everything because of the damage drop. Also, because of the amount of powerful Fire type moves, it would likely be hard to get rocks up if Heatran falls to break Infernape's Sash, as the only pokemon you can force out with Cobalion is Charizard (Everything else is 2HKOd or outspeeds and OHKOs Cobalion, and Fletchinder can WoW). However if gifted free turns Cobalion can keep Rocks up vs their hazard removal and do decent damage in preparing for Empoleon to sweep later.

With the addition of Volcanion and it's much appreciated utility, it also adds a weakness to Electric that shouldn't be ignored. Being as this Fire team utilizes Fletchinder, Scarf Heatran, and Roostless Zard Y, it is much easier for Electric to apply pressure to this team than the old standard Fire team. The mons are presented below:

Raikou @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Ice
- Extrasensory

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers/Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 152 Def / 108 SpD
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split/Rest

Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 28 SpA / 232 SpD
Calm Nature
- Volt Switch
- Dragon Pulse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

With the combination of these 3 Pokemon(+Zapdos), this team will have a hard time dealing with the switch initiative and coverage/power these Pokemon utilize. Rotom-W/Mega Ampharos form the core that'll deteriorate the team with their Volt Switching or pummeling with their coverage move. All the switch initiative allows for Electric to safely switch into a Pokemon that can handle the Pokemon in front of you, so there isn't a real need to over predict much against this team. Rest recovery on the two mons also increases their longevity so they won't be worn down and eventually taken out. All this leads t the nuke of the team, Raikou. With Choice Specs equipped, Raikou will 2HKO/OHKO everything after coming in from Ampharos'/Rotom's Volt Switch, with nothing to really outspeed it except ScarfTran, which is walled by Rotom-W. One thing worth noting is that even though these 3 Pokemon work fantastically in lowering the health of this team, Sun boosted Fire Moves and Hazards are still a pain to deal with, so Defog immediately with a Zapdos that can come in on something it can outspeed/wall(Entei/Fletchinder for example). Calcs are presented below:

If only Magnezone could set up hazards... But yeah, with Team support from Zapdos and Magnezone, these 3 mons can be a huge annoyance for a team like this. Note: I did not add Fletchinder in any of the calcs as it an be handled very easily by the rest of the team (Zapdos and Mangezone),

Lt. Col. of The Kyergrzstan Killer Beez
Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Atk / 56 Def
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- Defog

Pretty simple really, basically Heracross runs this team through without staraptor, and mega scizor checks staraptor, able to constantly roost up on it till it has enough health or raptor dies of recoil, Buller punch helps with chop damage and Defog is there to keep webs from that smeargle off the field so that Heracross can outspeed and continue to sweep, note; Heracross will want to switch out every now and then as diggersby and mega lopunny can really damage it after defense drops with quick attack and fake out respectively, luckily mega scizor resists both those. It cannot be 2HKOed by Lops HJK but Doggersby 2HKOs with EQ, your best chance against that is to let Heracross take the Quick attack if he is at -1 or neutral defense, or set up an SD with scizor as bullet lunch OHKOs after 2 rounds LO recoil
