Dragon’s Table
Pt. 1: Undergoing restorations

You shield your eyes with your hand, wary of the light breeze that keeps blowing sand in your face. As you stop to look around, the jagged peaks of southern Sinnoh’s Mt. Coronet range greet you with a hostile stare; you are an intruder in this ancestral valley, an outsider in a secluded dale where few are welcome and even fewer dare speak of.

Behind you lies a wide, solitary plain; before you, a red-haired young man stands, his hands deep inside the pockets of his jet-black coat. A Pokémon with spotless fur and vulpine features sits on either side of the young trainer: to his left, a nine-tailed Pokémon with gold-white fur and burning orange eyes; to his right, a white-furred Pokémon with a dark-grey horn and menacing red eyes. Behind him, an ominous-looking structure projects a dark silhouette onto the star-filled sky.

With the sun having set several hours ago, you have a difficult time trying to make out the large building behind the trainer. It seems to be a large complex, rather than a single building: remnants of tall ramparts and sandstone obelisks are visible on either side of a wide, low-rising staircase. Beyond the staircase, however, lies an imposing structure, its tall windows and wide halls giving the impression of an arcane, age-old temple. The fractured ruins of ancient pillars lay about, but a single, unbroken spire rises taller than all the others on the opposite side of the building. On the far side of the temple, an imposing altar is visible through its open gates, adorned with the massive sculpture of an ancient deity. Behind the draconian figure, a sandstone icon with its wings spread wide, sits a wide window through which the night sky shines clearly.

“First of all, thank you for coming all the way out here. We are aware that this site is anything but accessible, but you’ll see soon enough why we decided to put the gym in this place.” It seems the young trainer is the Gym Leader you’ve been searching for, even though he looks far too young for the position. “I guess you’re wondering what this place is, and why I made you travel all the way here.”

A weird moment of silence ensues, as the young trainer tries to take a better look at your face in the dim starlight. "Oh... oh no. It's you, isn't it? I knew something was up when Zelda here started sniffing around. Please tell me that blue Gallade isn't here this time, or she'll get all weird again..."

As if on queue, the fiery vulpine to the trainer's left stands up and begins to walk in circles around you, perhaps trying to gaze into the Pokéballs you have brought. "Oh, come on. Zelda, please, let's try and keep it professional this time for the gym people, or they can just as easily kick us out of here after this match." Visibly worried by now, the Leader turns back to you and continues. "Well, I know that you've already seen the place when Gym com came by to approve the arena, but I'll try and give you the tourist-y introduction so that you can see what the Committee's money has been used for. So;"

“This is The Dragon’s Table.”

“Centuries ago, this place used to be a place of worship for a religious sect who gathered here in hopes of summoning a dark, powerful creature. You can see its image inside the temple, on the altar—to be precise, this whole place is an altar. This Fell creature could absorb the life energy of other living things, so it was both feared and worshipped by some. It crossed the sea from a distant region once in a blue moon and came to perch north of here, on the peak of Mount Coronet itself. So, this cult gathered here and tried to gain the creature’s power by making sacrifices—human sacrifices. And these were massive sacrifices, with hundreds or thousands of victims at a time. So yes, some truly horrifying things happened here. What we’re trying to do now is to preserve the site, so that it serves as a memorial to all those lives that were lost. We’re trying to restore the spires, starting with these on the south side—”

Suddenly, the Leader stops mid-sentence. “Oh, I apologize. I’m rambling again, and you came here for a gym battle! Let me go through some of the more technical stuff, and we can-- Zelda! Back off! Go wait inside the temple or something!"

Anyways;
a) You’ll notice that some of the dark magic that was cast here remains, and it tends to affect the vitality of both people and Pokémon. This means that draining moves have their healing effects nullified, since Pokémon have trouble tapping into others’ life energy. I have a feeling that the Fell creature for which this temple was made would have no trouble draining others’ vitality, though.
b) You’ll also notice that this dark magic tends to strengthen Pokémon with powers over the occult, especially those who rely on things like toxins and mind control. This tends to make Poison- and Psychic-type moves more powerful.
c) As I said earlier, artifacts can be found lying around; this is a battlefield, after all. This means that you may find some useful items around here, so trainers may use items that they haven’t purchased.
d) However, please bear in mind that this is a historical site undergoing a heavy restoration effort. We would appreciate it if Pokémon didn’t knock these relics around mid-battle, so please treat Pokémon as if they had the ability Sticky Hold.

As the Leader grows silent, you wait for him to continue. His gaze moves to a single, darkened cloud overhead, behind which a sliver of the full moon is visible. As the soft breeze carries away its lone companion in the clear sky, the moon shines over the valley, illuminating you and your opponent in a pale, white light. The Leader turns to the temple behind him, as moonlight slowly crawls up through its sandstone walls and reflects off of its shattered windows. Finally, as the clear light of the moon reaches the top of the structure’s tallest spire, you see a faint gleam, as if the Dragon’s Table were set for the upcoming battle. The Leader turns back around towards the battlefield, a slight grin on his face. “Midnight”, he remarks. “We may begin.”

Arena effects
a) All Pokémon gain the ability Sticky Hold on top of their regular abilities.
b) Moves that drain HP in addition to dealing damage have their healing effect nullified. The move Oblivion Wing is exempt from this restriction. [Full list: Absorb, Drain Punch, Draining Kiss, Dream Eater, Giga Drain, Horn Leech, Leech Life, Leech Seed, Mega Drain, Parabolic Charge]
c) Trainers may use items that they have not purchased.
d) The Base Attack Power of Psychic-type moves is boosted by 2BAP, and the Base Attack Power of Poison-type moves is boosted by 1BAP.

Codifications:
a) Camouflage turns the user into a Ghost-type
b) Nature Power calls Confusion
c) Secret Power has a 30% chance to lower the target's Special Attack by one stage

The specter of death looms over the battlefield. How many were killed here? Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands? More?

The leader didn't say. You aren't sure you want to know. Not with such an important challenge facing you now. You wonder if that's a benefit of the arena. The gym leader gets to unnerve his opponents, maybe distract them a bit. If he even gets you to make one small mistake, it could make a world of difference.

The match time also suggests as much. Midnight, right after hiking across Coronet. No rest. No quarter. The adrenaline that's beginning to flow through your veins can only do so much to lift your fatigue. If the match goes on too long you could slip up or crash.

It's a clever design, really.

You here a referee call out the formalities from the sidelines. You didn't see him here. Of course, he's clad in all black and was slinking back earlier. He would've been invisible before the moon illuminated the field. You glance around. There's no one else here but you, the ref and the gym leader.

There's no rain, no fog and no audience. You've been in a lot of gyms, but none had this sort of profound silence.

The leader breaks it before you get a chance. He's sending out first. Then you'll respond and the silence will be shattered for the forseeable future. You wonder if that's disrespectful to the dead, to break the silence right next to their grave. But you don't have long to wonder anymore. You reach for your Pokemon, prepared to fight for the next badge. Reflections can come later.

Team YellowAdminSilver

Nohr was the first Pokémon to join Silver's team after leaving his hometown. She comes from a very traditional family and has a strict sense of honour, which is why she aims to travel the world in search of combat that will bring glory for herself and for her House. Nohr is typically stern and calm; however, combat is her greatest release. In the midst of battle, she usually drops her serious demeanor and becomes much more relaxed, mainly because she can rarely keep herself from laughing in the heat of battle. All the guts, all the glory is her favorite phrase, and it kinda makes her wish she had Guts. Peanut butter on toast is her favorite food.

Zara's past remains shrouded in mystery. She reveals little about her origins herself, and doesn't make any efforts whatsoever to confirm or deny the rumors that float around about her. If the stories are to be believed, Zara comes from a secluded fortress built into a solitary mountain, deep in the desert. Here, a secretive Order has lived and trained for generations, at the service of a mysterious figure who might be more myth than man. This "Old Man of the Mountain" is rumored to have a legion of assassins at his beck and call, trained in the arts of combat and deception. Be it as it may, Zara joined Silver after hearing of the young trainer's intentions of contending for the position of Dark Gym Leader, and she has always worked to that end with ruthless precision, efficiency and loyalty. Nothing about Zara has ever made Silver feel like the rumors about her being a highly-trained assassin are false.

Zara's loyalty and composure have quickly endeared her to Soul, who sees in her a kindred spirit. She seems to be motivated by a deep sense of spirituality, although few manage to comprehend this part of her personality.

Nothing
Greed is... strange. Many chalk it up to living in a cave for the longest time, since it seems the solitude has messed with his people skills, among other things. He has a bit of an obsession with things that shine in the darkness, as well as a not-so-small case of kleptomania. Greed is also fixated on hoarding money and jewels, which, strangely, he doesn't eat, unlike most of his species. Suffice it to say, he's not entirely right in the head, which freaks Zelda out to no end. Still, he's an able battler, and he will always go all-out in a fight--albeit for a price.

Greed joined Silver as soon as the position of Dark Gym Leader became open, presumably because he felt that a substancious reward would come from helping the young Trainer secure the position. Even as the aftermath of that decision has brought more work than gain for himself, it seems Greed is content with making a name for himself in the battlefield, rather than hoarding rocks in a cave in Hoenn.

Brash, boisterous and ruthless, Jaeger's strength is only matched by his utter contempt for others. Jaeger's air of superiority makes it hare to understand why he offered to assist Silver in his bid to become the Dark-type Gym Leader, but his power and resourcefulness in the battlefield have been of great assistance to the young trainer.

Jaeger's competitive spirit extends beyond the arena, from board games to video games to eating contests. He is especially good at competitive hot dog eating and all things Warcraft. However, Belladonna is currently on a seven-game winning streak in Skiddley Whiffers, which frustrates Jaeger to no end.

Shaula is one of those people--or Pokémon--who constantly nees to prove themselves to others. Being the youngest of three sisters, she quickly learned that physical strength alone is not enough to get by in the world, and that cunning is the greatest weapon. A quick claw and an even quicker brain are her most evident traits; however, there is much more to Shaula than meets the eye. Through rigorous training, she has come close to mastering her own abilities, granting her a great control over her own poison. She has managed to create a variety of toxins, which she delivers with quick and precise strikes to her victims' weak points. Shaula's teammates are fully aware of the destructiveness of her venomous strikes, which has earned her many sideways glances and few friends.

Nonetheless, Shaula and Jaeger have developed a partnership of sorts, based on (mostly) friendly competition. While this rivalry has led to some nasty incidents--often involving sharp objects and fractured bones--it has also led to both Pokémon growing in strength and toughness.

you used to be so cute smh

Holy fuck, a duck! This is definitely not the team I expected ._.
Also, HP Fairy Porygon? =_= Could you
please counterteam me a bit harder?

"Well. I guess we've come full circle now? I tried to join, you kicked my ass with these two, and now that I suck a bit less you've come here to kick my ass again. Is that the way these things usually work?"

"No pretty blue Gallade this time?"

"Ah, right. That would've made for some nice parallelism I guess. Poetic justice!"

"The sooner we get started, the sooner you can choke this match away. That would really make it come full circle."

"I won't even pretend that that's not an accurate description of our time here. Onwards!

Also, this is kind of a gamble, and it may be just a tad stupid, but we'd still lose by playing it safe."

"Let the die fall as they may."

Sending out Zara the Greninja @ Rare Candy!

It is a Gym match. I am expected to counterteam you. Although Greninja is there merely so you can taste some of your own medicine.

"Sweet mother, you sure have a pretty low self-esteem. Oh well. Let's go Duck, this is why I brought you here!"

Duck the Porygon2 with Eviolite

Taunt (Porygon2) AND not in a combo THEN Magic Coat and push back

"Well. I guess we've come full circle now? I tried to join, you kicked my ass with these two, and now that I suck a bit less you've come here to kick my ass again. Is that the way these things usually work?"

The leader speaks more before sending out his Pokemon. Instead, two creep out of the shadows behind him. One is a nine-tailed fox that radiates light into the space around it. The other is an Absol, although it doesn't seem to be approaching the field or signaling a desire to battle. They growl out phrases in their strange language and the trainer pretends to understand... or maybe he can speak their language? That would certainly make him more intimidating than anticipated.

"Ah, right. That would've made for some nice parallelism I guess. Poetic justice!"

...and the gym leader can either understand the language or he's insane. Probably the latter. He has been camped out in a blood-soaked middle-of-nowhere for lord knows how long.

"I won't even pretend that that's not an accurate description of our time here. Onwards!

Also, this is kind of a gamble, and it may be just a tad stupid, but we'd still lose by playing it safe."

Not the confidence you would expect of a master. Or from anyone who could be challenging the gym circuit, much less serving as a gym leader in it. So there goes the mastery theory. He's definitely just mad. As for the gamble, the leader drops a ball and a Greninja appears on the field.

You know the species well. While not directly powerful, they can adjust to any check you might have. So you decide upon sending out a species that is difficult to check.

"Sweet mother, you sure have a pretty low self-esteem. Oh well. Let's go Duck, this is why I brought you here!"

Your Porygon2 materializes in midair and assesses the battlefield. Almost immediately it begins to shift as its bill grows larger and body smaller. Its skin begins to ripple in a multitude of different colors before its entire body turns pure white. Its ready to begin when you are.

"Skull Bash."

Duck draws energy into itself, forming a new layor of armor-like pixels above its body.

"Lick."

You open your mouth to change tactics, but quietly close it. Skull Bash can't be interrupted and you'd just tip your hand as to what Porygon can do.

Greninja rushes forwards and lashes her tongue out towards Duck. But it doesn't connect. Instead she fades into the shadows and becomes completely invisible in the night. You assume she passed harmlessly through your team member. Duck realizes this, but can't stop the attack so it simply rushes forwards. The pixelated armor remains around it even though it strikes nothing.

You keep an eye out for any disturbances in the environment, but looking for a shadow at night is all but impossible. You ask Duck for some light and she obliges with a pure beam of it. You can't see the frog, but in the brief seconds of illuminations you can clearly see a couple dozen metal thorns poking out of the grass that weren't there before. Greninja is setting up and until you can see her there's not a lot you can do. Except set up yourself. Porygon forms another layer of white armor and you step back to see how your opponent plays his hand.

"Hey, we're not losing! We're not winning either, but still."

"Time to take control of this battle then!"
Sending out Nohr the Pangoro @ Focus Band!

Care to counterswitch?

Hahaha haha ha haha ha I have no idea what you're doing now, which means I have no idea what I'm doing either. Also I thought this posted yesterday but my draft didn't even save =(

"Well. We can put that one up in the 'failed gambles' column I guess. Now, go and save me, you foolishly self-assured bear!"

Knock Off - Gunk Shot - Gunk Shot
[IF] a damaging Fairy-type combination is used, use Protect that action instead and push actions back.
[IF] a P/E move is used, use Focus Punch on the first instance, Substitute [15HP] on the second, pushing actions back each time. Do not trigger consecutively.
[IF] Duck is not a Fairy-type when you would use Gunk Shot, use Storm Throw that action instead

I actually gave this more thought than I predicted I would.

With Honchkrow looming near, I am afraid my best bet is a rather weird one.

COMBO (Skull Bash + Aerial Ace) - cooldown - Hidden Power
IF
Skull Bash + Aerial Ace is deemed unfeasible AND COMBO (Aerial Ace + Giga Impact) is deemed feasible THEN Replace A1 with with COMBO (Aerial Ace + Giga Impact)

The gym leader recalls Greninja and sends out a Pangoro in its place to harm your normal-type. Apparently spike laying is over. You're happy enough with that; Porygon can change its typing and Pangoro is easier to play around. You keep your duck in and order it to form more armor.

As more layers of pixels form around Porygon, Pangoro rushes forward and slams a fist straight down into your Pokemon. It doesn't do much direct damage, but you watch as a very important bit of data falls down. You know that beneath the armor, Porygon is far more vulnerable than it was a second ago. The duck responds by changing colors to be translucent. The armor changes from glowing white pixels to a swirling mass of wind around the Pokemon's body.

Porygon rushes forward in its newfound windy form and strikes into the panda. The bear is initially able to take the attack, but then a strong gust of wind joins the digital bird and tips the scales, launching Pangoro from the earth and into the air. During its trajectory, Porygon flits around and strikes it repeatedly. When the dark-type hits the ground, Porygon abruptly teleports to be standing in front of you, winded but otherwise fine.

Pangoro closes the distance shortly after he gets up and grabs hold of Porygon, throwing him into a nearby cliff-face. The armor is temporarily blown away and the duck takes the hit without the help of either its defensive upgrade or recently built defenses. Pangoro lunges and slams it again with a similar hit, although its newfound body of air makes the impacts less severe than they might have otherwise been.

Changing gears, Porygon reassembles its armors and blows a bright white. A small laser leaves its body and strikes Pangoro head-on, sending waves of white energy coursing through the dark-type. Duck floats to meet you on the ground, now glowing a brilliant white color across its entire form.

8 days passed. That is 4 times the DQ interval. I understand you are under LoA, but this is too much and I won't wait forever. I will push the DQ button even if it means only that I will wait longer for a chance, if I feel that helps me making a point.

Yes I am a hypocrite.

Anyway, consider this a DQ Warning. I won't DQ now (nor today, nor tommorow etc), but I might at some point.

Point taken.
Also, Greninja is incorrectly listed as having a Focus Band when it should be holding Rare Candy.

Sending out Zara the Greninja to replace Pangoro.

Also.
Initiating a switch phase! Sending out Greed the Sableye @ Everstone! Counterswitch?

The gym leader grimaces and withdraws his fallen kung fu panda. He was not victorious in the end. But it was no matter, in the long run. With an idle flick of his wrist, a ghost appeared on the field. His sapphire eyes shone through the darkness.

Greninja was undeterred and simply bounced on the balls of his feet, waiting for a moment to strike. It came when Sableye lurched through the darkness in a nearly supersonic tackle, only to get intercepted by a shield of light forming around skill frog a second before it hit. Greed collided violently and rattled back, dazed. But he regained his wits just as the shield fell down and struck Greninja with an aura of fury. A flash sparked from the gym leader's belt with the hit, as Pangoro lent his last energy reserves. Another flash marked another retaliatory hit.

But then something much brighter lit up the darkness.

The entire field was illuminated in silhouette as Greninja let loose a pulse of pink-white light. When the intensity finally passed twenty seconds later, Sableye was battered on the ground a dozen meters away and Greninja was glowing pink and lighting up the night.
