[LCT SF] jayelt413 vs. Matezoide

Rules
Pokemon: 3v3
Format: Singles
DQ: Strict 72h Disqualification. One warning per player. After the warning is used (any tag after DQ interval is passed will be counted as warning), the Player has one hour to post (with full orders/pokemon, just saying "orders coming watch this space" doesn't suffice) after DQ is called to rescind it. If one hour passes, the player is DQ'd regardless of the ref posting or not. User calling DQ must tag DQ'd player. Referees please tag the combatants when you have finished your reffing. Players, if you know you're going to be away you better post a Leave of Absence BEFORE you leave, or give a very good reason in case of an emergency.

Arena
The ASB Tournament Arena
Field Type: Neutral
Complexity: Simple
Format: All

Restrictions: No Restrictions

Description: Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokémon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokémon battling arena. In the centre of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Poké Ball centre). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about 4.5m wide & creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is 24m wide, 33m long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it is an outdoor arena with a large water source & packed dirt. Pokémon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying-type Pokémon, who cannot leave the arena & cannot fly higher than 18m). This prevents Pokémon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokémon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Command Type: Type Exclusive | Accuracy: -- | Energy Cost: 5 | Priority: 0 | CT: None

Ability:
Levitate (Passive):

This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Nature: Hardy

Type: Dark/Flying
Flying: Flying STAB; immunity to Ground attacks and the Arena Trap Ability except under the effects of Smack Down and Gravity, even for ground-based flying Pokemon. Will always hit foes with Dig (except other Flying types) and Dive. Cannot be hit by Dive unless the attacking Pokemon has a size class greater than four (4). Unaffected by Spikes or Toxic Spikes. when switching in. Dark: Dark STAB; ignores Attract and Confusion status entirely when using Dark-type damaging and non-damaging attacks.

Abilities:

Insomnia (Passive):

This Pokemon is immune to sleep induced by other Pokemon. Its normal state of sleeplessness makes it take 1 less damage and energy/action from Ghost Curse. If it is put to sleep by a Pokemon with Mold Breaker, it will wake up the next action. If a Pokemon with Insomnia also has Vital Spirit, its Attack and BRT are increased by one (1) Rank and its accuracy is raised by one (1) stage permanently.
Supeer Luck (Passive):

This Pokemon's natural skill increases its critical hit levels one stage above other Pokemon, making its normal moves inflict critical hits 12.5% of the time and its high critical hit moves inflict critical hits 50% of the time.
Prankster (HA UNLOCKED, Passive):

The Pokemon is always prepared for engaging in sneaky tactics and trickery, giving its non-damaging attacks a +1 increase in priority level.

Shadow Ball - Ominous Wind - Dark Pulse
[TWO SUBS] IF Gastly is to use Pain Split OR Taunt, THEN Taunt and push back.
IF Gastly is to use Knock Off AND Gastly did not use Knock Off the previous action AND Gastly is not to use Knock Off the next action, THEN Protect and push back.

Nope!

Knock Off -> Pain Split -> Knock Off

If the other Gastly does not have Rare Candy, use Dark Pulse that action the first time and Shadow Ball the second.

The coin flip doesn't totally screw with Matezoide, thanks mostly to the fact that Jay doesn't hold a great Gastly match up outside of the obvious mirror. Mate is even able to abuse said mirror to play a sort of inverse chicken dance, using Jay's subs against him to ensure that both ghosts make it out of the round completely unscathed, but Jay's has used quite a bit more energy in doing so.

In an almost complete contrast to last round both combatants throw all caution to the wind and simply unload with their best attacks. Or at least close to their best, as Matezoide has to slot in one slightly inferior Foul Play to avoid Disable shenanigans. Jayelt is able to end the round slightly ahead thanks mostly to a lack of Super Luck but both Pokemon are certainly going into the next round perched on the edge of getting KOed.

Jay seems to have either forgotten about Levitate or is just once again chicken dancing against this Gastly. A strange idea given Staryu is now trapped against it anyway and bound to be taking some Thunders next round. Nevertheless Staryu avoids most of the damage for the round but still takes a small amount more than it gives out in that one action the Pokemon actually hit each other. Time to see if Jay has a trick up his sleave.

Nah, I never forget. I just had to not go down hugely in HP here.

Staryu @ Water Stone

Endure - Pain Split - Brine
IF you are taunted when you are to use Pain Split, THEN Hydro Pump instead.
IF you are asleep when you are to act, THEN Sleep Talk [Hydro Pump - Surf - Scald - Brine] and push back.
IF Gastly has used Reflect Type, THEN Replace Brine in your main orders with Thunderbolt and Replace the Sleep Talk in your second substitution with Sleep Talk [Thunderbolt - Zap Cannon - Tri Attack - Hydro Pump]

Out of all the possible ways I could have predicted this round going after the conclusion of the last I would never in a million years have guessed this. Even at well about 2/3 of remaining HP Jay is very worried about losing his Staryu this round and begins with the strange play of Enduring while ordering first. This lack of offensive pressure proves to be his downfall as Matezoide orders Gastly to use Curse in possibly the only serious time ever in ASB a Ghost type has used Curse. Of course it helps a lot if your opponent is unknowingly about to Pain Split half of that HP right back to you. Mate's genius tactic is then topped off with a little Giga Drain which sees it sit just high enough on remaining HP to make sure Brine doesn't get its salty little boosted BAP either. Seriously this round belongs on some sort of an ASB highlight reel somewhere. Then to top it all of the Endure proves to be a completely wasted action as Staryu just dies to its curse anyway! I feel my crappy prose has not done this magnificent play justice but at least it has swung momentum massively over to the Brazilian.

Gastly @ Rare Candy

Oh you guys, i am starting to get red here, haha.

Ok, now to hope i wont mess this up. Yachiru, make me proud!

Shadow Ball -> Dark Pulse -> Shadow Ball

If Endure A1 or A2 AND Gastly is not behind a Substitute, use Will-O-Wisp that action and push-back, but only once
If Protective/Evasive move, Chill that action and push-back, but not consecutively.
If Sucker Punch in a combination, Chill that action and push-back, but only once.

A lucky dodge and a little health recovery of his own sees Jayelt make sure that Mate's pesky Gastly is out of the way while his own hangs on by just a thread. Its increasingly looking like Timburr might be on its own to pull this one out, but if there was any mon in this tournament that can do it..

/me twitches irritably

Alright, considering I have no way to break Endure here without some massive RNGesus praying, and the fact that Matezoide has truly earned this win, there is only 1 course of action for me from here.

Forfeit

Matezoide good luck in the finals!
