The challenger recalls his Hariyama, sending an Alakazam to fight in its stead. The Psychic-type initiates its first engagement by gathering an electrical charge and harnessing its power to fire a weak—yet steady—beam of plasma at Braviary, who recoils away from the shock; furthermore, Alakazam leverages its massive intellect and psychic abilities to figure out a way to convert some leftover power into energy for its own use, amplifying the power of its future attacks. Braviary has orders to follow, though, and Alakazam's impressive display was not quite enough to change that fact; the bird is enveloped by a gentle glow that soon transforms into a brilliant field of volatile energy, which Braviary launches at the psychic threat, dealing heavy damage.
While Alakazam cannot flinch themselves into immobility, the species is by no means immune to the shock that accompanies the reception of a forceful maneuver, and the challenger's Pokemon is caught off guard by the injury that it sustained from Braviary's previous attack. Braviary seizes this opportunity and quickly snatches Alakazam with its talons and ascends to a higher point in the arena; however, by this time, Alakazam has recovered its sensibilities and delivers an abrupt jolt of electricity to the winged monster, causing Braviary to release its grip and end the grapple. Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, Alakazam appears to have forgotten a key detail: breaking its adversary's hold would have been best accomplished by simply teleporting away, as the duo's current position means that, once free of Braviary's clutch, Alakazam plummets to the theatre floor, splinting a few floorboards with its landing.
As Alakazam returns to a standing posture, Braviary drifts between the spoon bender and the powerful, overhead arena lights, casting a threatening shadow over the Psychic-type; suddenly, a searingly bright light illuminates the darkened area as Braviary builds the energy required to unleash a technique of cataclysmic might. Alakazam shows no trepidation in the face of so spectacular a danger, and, instead, calmly shields its eyes while generating an orb of electricity that steadily grows to a sizable diameter, anticipating the necessity of such a weapon. Alakazam is promptly proven to be correct, as Braviary has completed its charging period and prepares to release its stockpile of raw power; it is at this moment that Alakazam springs into action, propelling its crackling projectile towards Braviary, where, upon contact with the airborne combatant, the sphere detonates and releases a surge of electricity that interrupts Braviary's attack and causes it to drop from above. After examination, the leader's last Pokemon cannot continue battling, and the challenger is declared the victor.
