Victim of the Week
Every generation is different and the metagame is constantly changing. However there's always been and always will be one constant: Threats.

Whether it be a defensive threat or an offensive threats, any competent competitive Pokemon player should have some knowledge on how to handle common, top-tier threats.

That's where you guys as a community come in. This project aims to gather some of the common top-tier threats in the current metagame and find Pokemon that can either check or counter the respective 'mon.

Rules
  • Every round, I will nominate a Pokemon (moveset specifically) for discussion. Within one week's time, you guys will have the ability to discuss and nominate various Pokemon that you think can either check or counter the victim of the week.
  • After the deadline, I will choose the top three checks and the top three counters. Should there be a lot of nominations, I will discuss my choices with other skilled players to ensure the selections are not biased and that all nominations have been considered thoroughly.
  • The results will be archived and the process will continue.
  • When nominating your check/counter please follow the provided format:
- Name of the Pokemon
- Check or Counter
- Short Description as to why you chose this particular Pokemon
- Set(s) that work well against the victim of the week
  • Minimum of 3 sentences for each set.
  • Reserving Pokemon is allowed, however, reservation posts must be updated within 12 hours, or anyone is free to claim the Pokemon for themselves.
General Information
To be considered a counter, a Pokemon must be able to risklessly switch into any of the opponent's moves under normal battle conditions, including taking damage from Stealth Rock, and reliably KO the opponent before the counter is KOed itself.

To be considered a check, a Pokemon must be able to switch at least once into most of opponent's moves under normal battle conditions at least including taking damage from Stealth Rock, and reliably KO the opponent before the counter is KOed itself.

Winners will be decided using the following criteria:

- Viability of the Pokemon: The point of this thread if finding viable counters to important threats. Overly specific gimmicks generally don't work in practice.

- Effectiveness of the Pokemon: This is pretty self explanatory. The better a check / counter is at dealing with the the "victim", the more effective it is. Example: Blissey is more effective than Milotic at walling Nidoqueen, because it takes significant less damage from all its moves.

I'm taking over UU Victim of the Week for Sacri'. He did a great job, now let's keep it going!

The winners of week 10 (CB Conkeldurr) from the previous thread are:
Counters:
Cresselia
(Mr. Highways)
Sylveon (Lord Esche)
Weezing (Vague)

Checks:
Arcanine
(Godfather 4)
Crobat (LeoLancaster)
Gyarados (Sam-testings)

To kick things off, we have a monstrous wallbreaker that has only been officially UU for two months:

Tornadus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave / Knock Off
- Superpower
- Tailwind

Cynde

Rotom-Heat @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Def / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split
- Overheat

can take all of the above listed attacks even after rocks and proceed to volt switch / pain split allowing it to gain the upper hand over tornadus almost every single time. the pseudo recovery also allows it to act as a more long term answer which is useful. plus this mons typing is generally just nifty in this meta.

I hope I'm doing this right... Mega Ampharos as Counter.
(pink looks so much cooler)
Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Volt Switch
- Dragon Pulse

Although mega ampharos is not the best pokemon as of right now, I believe it is a great tool to match up well against an opponent that likes to use flying spam. Mega ampharos takes every move tornadus likes to dish out very well both in its pre-mega form and when mega evolved. Ampharos also has a nice little perk in paralyzing tornadus with static if tornadus happens to use a physical move like knock off or superpower as pre-mega ampharos switches in. Below are some combined max and min damage ampharos can take when it switches into Tornadus.

Heatwave on nonmega + Hurricane on mega = 64.2 - 72%
Hurricane on nonmega + Hurricane on mega = 59.5 - 70.2%

Volt Switch on Tornadus = 104.3 - 123%
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ampharos: 125-147 (32.5 - 38.2%) -- 97.1% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ampharos: 143-169 (37.2 - 44%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ampharos: 103-121 (26.8 - 31.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ampharos: 56-66 (14.5 - 17.1%) -- possible 6HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Ampharos: 104-123 (27 - 32%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Ampharos: 60-71 (15.6 - 18.4%) -- possible 6HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Ampharos: 88-105 (22.9 - 27.3%) -- 63.4% chance to 4HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Ampharos: 49-58 (12.7 - 15.1%) -- possible 7HKO

4 SpA Mold Breaker Mega Ampharos Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Tornadus: 314-372 (105 - 124.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
4 SpA Mold Breaker Mega Ampharos Dragon Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Tornadus: 190-225 (63.5 - 75.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Thanks to whoever told me how to do the /hide thing. Some more quick cool things about ampharos countering tornadus is that dragon pulse is going to be a KO after a few LO uses or stealth rocks damage, so you don't always have to go for the volt switch if you feel like a ground type will come in and steal your momentum. Speaking of momentum, if tornadus goes for tailwind and you kill with volt switch, then you have the free switch to prepare for a pokemon that might abuse the tailwind effect.

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Heal Bell
- Diamond Storm
- Moonblast
- Stealth Rock

Diancie as a counter. Diancie only has a 6% chance to get 4HKOed by Tornadus's Hurricane after Stealth Rock, and Superpower only does a quarter of Diancie's HP the first time out. Diance also has a guaranteed OHKO on Tornadus after just one LO hit.

Aerodactyl-Mega @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Wing Attack
- Earthquake / Aqua Tail
- Pursuit
Mega Aerodactyl can switch-in Hurricane/Superpower after SR and OHKO/Pursuit Trap Tornadus after this.

  • 252 Atk Mega Aerodactyl Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tornadus: 452-534 (151.1 - 178.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Aerodactyl Pursuit (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tornadus: 157-185 (52.5 - 61.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

  • 252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Aerodactyl: 118-140 (39.2 - 46.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
  • 4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Aerodactyl: 146-172 (48.5 - 57.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 240 HP / 16 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss

Registeel is a sturdy counter to Tornadus due to its monstrous defensive capability. A mixed defense set allows it to tank Superpowers with relative ease while still checking other dangerous threats such as Sylveon. However, it must be wary of Focus Blast variants as then Tornadus can 2HKO it.

4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Superpower vs. 240 HP / 16+ Def Registeel: 161-190 (44.5 - 52.6%) -- 19.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Hurricane vs. 240 HP / 252 SpD Registeel: 66-79 (18.2 - 21.8%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

reserving zap... oh right ._.

anyway i'll take p2

Porygon2 as a check.

CyberQuack (Porygon2) @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tri Attack
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave
- Recover
Porygon 2 is not 2HKOed by any move that Tornadus throws at it and traces Prankster from Tornadus which allows it to Recover stall or use Thunder Wave to render it useless slow it down. Additionally, Ice Beam is always a 2HKO on Tornadus.

I didn't list P2 as a counter because Knock Off is an option stated in the OP which makes P2 significantly less bulky due to the loss of Eviolite. However, even without an Eviolite P2 can still switch into Tornadus when at full HP and Recover stall until Hurricane misses or until Superpower drops its attack to a level where it can't 2HKO P2 anymore.
Tornadus vs. Porygon2:
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 136+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 126-149 (33.6 - 39.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Superpower vs. 252 HP / 120 Def Eviolite Porygon2: 161-192 (43 - 51.3%) -- 7.4% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 136+ SpD Porygon2: 187-222 (50 - 59.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Superpower vs. 252 HP / 120 Def Porygon2: 244-289 (65.2 - 77.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Porygon2 vs. Tornadus:
0 SpA Porygon2 Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Tornadus: 180-214 (60.2 - 71.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Shuckle as a check

Shuckle (M) @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Contrary
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Rest
- Infestation
- Sticky Web/Stealth Rocks
It can recover the damage with rest, set hazards, infestation trap, its more of a utility switch, however, as seen on the calcs, it won't do his job well when rocks are set. An interesting feature it has over the other nominations is that if the opponent chooses to tailwind, you gain free shell smash.
Also, the only move in that Tornadus set that treatens Shuckle making me nominate it as a check is Hurricane, which is only 70% accurate. So multiplying the chance that the move actually hits, the chance to get a 2HKO After rocks drops to 44,4%
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Shuckle: 87-105 (35.6 - 43%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Superpower vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Shuckle: 61-73 (25 - 29.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO [not accurate because of attack drop]
4 Atk Life Orb Tornadus Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Shuckle: 34-40 (13.9 - 16.3%) -- possible 7HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Shuckle: 51-61 (20.9 - 25%) -- 0% chance to 4HKO [funny calculation, isn't it?]
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Shuckle: 87-105 (35.6 - 43%) -- 90.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Shuckle: 51-61 (20.9 - 25%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Week 1 winners:
Counters:
Mega Ampharos
(Tirishia)
Diancie (Kreme)
Registeel (Vague)

Checks:
Mega Aerodactyl
(Mr. Highways)
Porygon2 (Lord Esche)
Rotom-H (Cyndequil.)

This week, we've got one of the best Mega Evolutions in the tier:

Sceptile @ Sceptilite
Ability: Overgrow -> Lighting Rod
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Giga Drain
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast

Vague

Banned deucer.

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Heal Bell
- Toxic
- Seismic Toss
- Softboiled

Blissey walls Mega Sceptile completely and proceeds to Toxic stall it or wear it down with Toss. Focus Blast has shaky accuracy and it only has about a 50% chance to 3HKO and Mega Sceptile's other attacks fail to do any notable damage to it.

Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect/Synthesis
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

Nominating Florges as a counter.

Florges can safely switch into any of Mega Sceptile's moves, and has the advantage of being completely immune to Dragon Pulse. None of Mega Sceptile's other moves do much to it either, even after Stealth Rock, with only Leaf Storm doing any notable damage (44.1 - 51.9%), and that's only before the SpA drop. Its combination of Leftovers + Wish/Protect or Synthesis allow it to easily wall Mega Sceptile and recover off any damage. Moonblast also has a decent chance to OHKO, and becomes a guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock.
Mega Sceptile vs Florges:
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 93-109 (25.8 - 30.2%) -- 98.3% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 159-187 (44.1 - 51.9%) -- 75% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 48-57 (13.3 - 15.8%) -- possible 9HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
(After potential SpA drop):
-1 252 SpA Mega Sceptile Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 61-73 (16.9 - 20.2%) -- possible 6HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
-1 252 SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 105-124 (29.1 - 34.4%) -- 6.5% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
-1 252 SpA Mega Sceptile Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 32-38 (8.8 - 10.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Florges vs Mega Sceptile:
0 SpA Florges Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Sceptile: 258-306 (91.8 - 108.8%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
0 SpA Florges Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Sceptile: 258-306 (91.8 - 108.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Reserving Mega Aerodactyl

Mega Aerodactyl
as a Check

Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Wing Attack
- Earthquake
- Pursuit/Roost

Mega Aerodactyl naturally outspeeds Mega Sceptile(in addition to also doing so prior to mega evolution) and can scare it out with a guaranteed OHKO in Wing Attack. In doing so, it can click Pursuit to deal heavy damage and limit its switch-in opportunities later in. Roost is slashed in case the Aerodactyl player believes Aero needs longevity throughout the match and doesn't need Pursuit.

Goodra @ Choice Band
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Iron Tail
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch
- Outrage

The ability sap sipper makes goodra a solid counter. You can switch in on a grass attack and get boosted. You can also take a single dragon pulse without dying due to goodra's stupid SpD, and kill mega-sceptile twice over with one outrage.

Escavalier as a check.

Escavalier @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 244 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Iron Head
- Pursuit
- Swords Dance
Escavalier is a solid check to Mega Sceptile: It resists both of Mega Sceptile's STAB Grass (4x) and Dragon (2x) and threatens Sceptile with the OHKO from Megahorn. The specially defensive SD variant with Leftovers is arguably Escavalier's best set in UU, checking a number of threats like Celebi and Beedrill but also Sceptile, while acting as a slow breaker. The given spread allows Escavalier to survie 3 consecutive Focus Blast hits 99,9% of the time, while taking next to nothing from Leaf Storm and Dragon Pulse. A Careful nature with maximum investment in Special Defense is an option to further improver Escavalier's bulk since even without any attack investent, Megahorn is always an OHKO on Mega Sceptile. However, with 16 attack EVs and an Adamant nature Escavalier hits significantly harder and deals more damage with Pursuit, which is a great tool to chip away health from the aforementioned threats.
Mega-Sceptile vs. Escavalier:
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Escavalier: 44-52 (12.8 - 15.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Dragon Pulse vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Escavalier: 58-69 (16.9 - 20.1%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Escavalier: 109-129 (31.7 - 37.6%) -- 0.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Escavalier vs. Mega-Sceptile:
16+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Sceptile: 474-558 (168.6 - 198.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
16+ Atk Escavalier Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Sceptile: 159-187 (56.5 - 66.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Nominating Whimsicott as a check

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 228 SpA / 28 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Moonblast
- Giga Drain
- U-turn
- Encore

While offensive Whimsicott doesn't appreciate taking a Leaf Storm on the switch, with just 28 EVs in SDef it can take a Giga Drain + Leaf Storm (Barring double max damage rolls) after rocks and get a return KO on MScept after a round of hazards. Being immune to Sceptile's secondary STAB is also a nice extra.

252 SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 28 SpD Whimsicott: 141-166 (54 - 63.6%)
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 28 SpD Whimsicott: 81-96 (31 - 36.7%)

228 SpA Whimsicott Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Sceptile: 246-290 (87.5 - 103.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Bronzong as a Counter

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Protect
M-sceptile will struggle in all ways to get past this. Protect allows Bronzong to recover in case the opponent decides to go on a 1v1, Gyro Ball 2HKO's due to M-Sceptile's speed which gets turned into a weakness and nonetheless Bronzong can set rocks on the opposing side. Toxic is also a decent way to deal with M-sceptile as you can resist his attacks and pressure some switch-ins.

I think its important to point that the only way M-sceptile can deal reasonable damage (still not very high tho) according to the calculations below is by using Focus Blast, which has relatively low accuracy.
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 43-51 (12.7 - 15%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 75-88 (22.1 - 26%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Dragon Pulse vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 49-58 (14.4 - 17.1%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Mega Sceptile Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 92-109 (27.2 - 32.2%) -- 98.6% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Ugh, a Defensive Pokémon? OK

Escavalier @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 56 Atk / 204 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Iron Head
- Drill Run / Pursuit
- Swords Dance

This set can tank Cresselia even at +6 and OHKO it with a +2 Megahorn.

+2 56+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Cresselia: 488-576 (110.6 - 130.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Escavalier: 130-153 (37.9 - 44.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
2 0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Escavalier: 65-77 (18.9 - 22.4%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

Sorry about this shitty formating, I am editing this post on phone.

Reserving Doublade since I was ninja'd again for Escavalier

ms paint god (Doublade) @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Shadow Sneak
- Shadow Claw / Secret Sword

Doublade as a (very) hard check to CM Cress. Being able to heavily threaten it with his Ghost STAB and bypassing Colbur, Doublade can come in pretty much for free and boost while not fearing anything bar a +6 Moonblast, with Psyshock doing pitiful damage.

+2 252+ Atk Doublade Shadow Claw vs. 240 HP / 212+ Def Cresselia: 294-348 (66.6 - 78.9%)
+2 252+ Atk Doublade Shadow Sneak vs. 240 HP / 212+ Def Cresselia: 168-200 (38 - 45.3%)

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 240 HP / 16 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 122-144 (38.2 - 45.1%)
+6 0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 63-75 (19.7 - 23.5%)

Reserving Curselax

Snorlax @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 188 HP / 144 Def / 176 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Return/Body Slam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Curse variants of Snorlax can comfortably boost up alongside Cresselia and deal with Psyshock easily thanks to Curse raising its defense. And if you're worried about +6 Moonblast from Cress...

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 188 HP / 176+ SpD Snorlax: 153-181 (30.1 - 35.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Don't be. Barring crits, Snorlax will always be able to rest up on Cresselia and even cycle through Sleep Talk(in the event you're extremely unlucky and don't get Return/Body Slam) fully. Its Returns will pack a punch to Cress as well, and in a 1v1 situation it's stalled out easily thanks to Moonlight only having 8 PP.

Frust kommt auf, denn der Bus kommt nicht
is a Tiering Contributor Alumnus
nominating toxic

Milotic as a full-blown counter.

Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Ice Beam/Toxic/Mirror Coat
- Haze
- Recover
Milotic completely shuts down CM Cresselia using the move Haze. It outlasts Calm Mind PP by a good margin, making it impossible for Cresselia to ever win 1v1. Even boosted Psyshock and Moonblast don't bother Milotic at all, which is able to Recover all the damage easily. Competitive is the preferred ability in this scenario because potential SpAtk drops from Moonblast will strengthen Scald, thus accelerating the process to stall Cress out of Moonlight PP. Burns help too, I guess. Don't mock Competive by the way, it's a solid option to grab a free +2 boost from Intimidate, Sticky Web or random drops. Toxic and Mirror Coat are both viable options over Ice Beam if you don't want to opt for Competitive. Either way, Cresselia ain't winning.
+6 0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Milotic: 228-268 (57.8 - 68%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery - I guess if you let Cresselia set up to +6 for fun and then deliberately switch into Psyshock you could lose?

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Milotic: 176-208 (44.6 - 52.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery - *snack*

Worried about PP?

Scald (24) + Ice Beam (16) + Haze (48) + Recover (16) = 104
Psyshock (16) + Moonblast (24) + Calm Mind (32) + Moonlight (8) = 80

srsly tho any mon with toxic beats this...

Cresselia @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 240 HP / 212 Def / 56 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moonlight
- Psyshock
- Signal Beam

Nominating Signal beam Cresselia as a counter. Signal beam cresselia eats moonblast cresselia since it can hit psychic super effective.

Heracross @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge

Nominating Heracross as a check.

Cresselia is notoriously difficult to OHKO. Even super effective moves are often a 2HKO. Heracross stands out in that it does have a chance to OHKO Cresselia with Megahorn. Admittedly, this chance is small, though it does become a guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock. If you want a more reliable move, Knock Off actually becomes a guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock, and takes away Cresselia's passive recovery. Unfortunately, Heracross doesn't appreciate Psychic, though it isn't a OHKO (even at +1, the chance to OHKO is low if there's no rocks) and Heracross always outspeeds and can potentially OHKO or 2HKO in a 1v1.

Heracross vs Cresselia (no rocks)
252+ Atk Choice Band Heracross Megahorn vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Cresselia: 398-470 (90.2 - 106.5%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Heracross Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Cresselia: 214-254 (48.5 - 57.5%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Heracross vs Cresselia (with rocks)
252+ Atk Choice Band Heracross Megahorn vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Cresselia: 398-470 (90.2 - 106.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Choice Band Heracross Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Cresselia: 214-254 (48.5 - 57.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Vague

Banned deucer.

Durant @ Lum Berry
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- Iron Head
- Superpower
- Crunch

Durant is a full-blown counter due to its useful typing and decent enough bulk to soak up resisted Psyshocks and Moonblasts. It then proceeds to use Cresselia as setup fodder and 2HKOes Cresselia with Crunch at +1.
