Victim Of The Week [VoTW #27 - Zygarde / Zygarde-Complete]

Status
Not open for further replies.
I really like three of them (Ttar, P2 and Mence) but in the end I decided for Solerme's Tyranitar just because it can trap Gengar and it is safe of most attacks whereas for example Mence and P2 can be taunted or put to sleep and just get killed with multiple Stab-Attacks.

Leader Wallace's Pheromosa

All the nominations here are great answers to Gengar imo but this one takes the cake when it comes to innovation. Almost guaranteed to catch your opponent off guard and even lures the thing in. Definitely gets my vote

cant say's Mega-Salamence

I've always liked that moveset.
Many of the nominated monsters are great checks and can neutralize Gengar or punish the Gengar team in some way, but that Salamence has enormous sweeping potential and can completely steal the game.
Of course it's not a perfect answer for every scenario, but against something that has Hypnosis, Shadow Tag, Perish Song, base 130 Speed and perfect neutral offensive coverage, nothing is.

Congratulations to Solerme for winning VoTW 13 (Mega-Gengar) with your submission of Tyranitar! Your post will be logged into the archive.

VoTW #14 - Mamoswine
I couldn't imagine seeing a metagame where Mamoswine isn't viable. This monster harnesses an amazing Ice / Ground typing, allowing it to comfortably check a lot of prominent metagame threats including Garchomp / Mega-Salamence / Landorys-Therain / Heatran / Tapu Koko, and many more. Mamoswine's moveset, while somewhat limited, is extremely useful. Access to Fissure lets Mamoswine pressure bulky mons which it wouldn't usually be able to break, such as Porygon2. Icicle Spear lets Mamoswine break through Focus Sash and Disguise while Ice Shard gives really nice Ice priority. Rock Tomb is great on a lead set Focus Sash set, slowing down the opponent and usually allowing for Mamoswine to get off another hit. It also allows a healthy Mamoswine to check Volcarona and Mega-Charizard Y. Mamoswine typically has three main items it utilises extremely well. Naturally, Earthquake hits pretty much anything hard unless it's resistant, or obviously immune. Focus Sash allows Mamoswine to check a wide variety of setup sweepers such as Mega-Charizard X and Volcarona, while also serving as a fantastic suicide lead to set Stealth Rock if needed. Life Orb simply allows Mamoswine to hit marginally harder, providing it with an 81.3% chance to OHKO with Adamant Ice Shard. Assault Vest turns Mamoswine into a really reliable special tank, able to freely pivot in on variety of specially based threats such as Aegislash, Porygon2 and Greninja. Mamoswine's main ability, Thick Fat, gives it a much better matchup against Fire-type threats and holds its weight much better against Pokemon which carry Ice Beam for coverage. Heaps of variety in this one mon, to say the very least. So, how do you deal with Mamoswine?
Submissions are open and will be closed in four days from now. Best of luck everyone!

Bug/Water typing allows it to resist Ground/Ice STABs, which along side Golisopod's tremendous 75/140 physical bulk makes it an effective check to Mamoswine.
I find Emergency Exit to be a very interesting ability in 3v3, allowing safe switches and pivots is valuable. The strong priority it sports allows to heavily chunk a number of major threats. The 4th slot is largely open, and not relevent to Mamoswine itself. Rock Tomb is my preference as it allows it to keep speed down on opposing Charizard-X or M-Salamence which try to take advantage of it with a Dragon Dance, not actually too common an issue mind.

Scissors is a great Pokemon to counter Mamo because Scissors is a pair of scissors, and Mamoswine is not a rock type, but it is an ice type which can be the same color as paper, so it must be paper, and by the rules of "Rock Paper Scissors" Scissors wins 100% of the time against paper. This makes Scissors the best counter.

Luckily for us we don't need to rely on Scissors in Rock Paper Scissors only. After cutting Kartanas (The top tier paper) for 20 years These Scissors Learned how to use Bullet Punch, which 2hko's any Mamoswine variant, unless it's physically defensive. Do not worry though, as Scissors has superpower, which KO's if a bullet punch is used first. 44 Speed lets the Scissors outspeed uninvested Mamoswine, making it even easier to KO.

As we see, it wins easily against non-life orb variants, although it might be brought very low by multiple 4-5 hits icicle spears. Life orb variants (16.8 %) can give it trouble, but unless they get two 5-hits in a row (2HKO is a roll in this case), you can at least hit it with a Heavy slam, dealing at least ~60 percent, while it will take at least 30% life orb recoil in total to knock you out, which leaves it easy to kill. If the Icicle Spear hit number is around the average, it will easily zap its health with Leech Seed. Celesteela is also a viable pokemon in general.

This dank pokemon can take any hit Mamoswine wants to throw at it, recover with its berry, then iron defense and proceed to wall it until it dies from Bug Buzz or Toxic, recovering reliably with Roost whenever it needs more HP. It also (importantly!) doesn't care at all about Fissure! It can even take two 5 hit Icicle Spears if it Iron Defenses after the first without even needing its berry. If you do not fear Mama's Wine, then you can even run Guillotine, but since Mamo is almost always sashed, you'll be relying on hitting it twice... With a Relaxed nature and 0 speed IVs, it can also be used against your opponent's Trick Room if they decide to use it (since Vikavolt won't be outspeeding many things anyway :( )

I would post the exact Bronzong I did before, but I wanna go with something more interesting this time

Golisopod @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Emergency Exit
Level: 50
EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Def
Adamant Nature
- First Impression
- Liquidation
- Aqua Jet
- Rock Tomb / Poison Jab / Swords Dance / Leech Life

One of the few Pokemon that can both pass go and collect $200 when facing Mamoswine, Weezing stockpiles for days, completely ignoring any damage dealt to it, then proceeds to murder Mamoswine with Gyro Ball/Pain Split. There is very little else to be said short of Mamo getting repeat criticals (or an OHKO via Fissure, which I'm not even sure works vs. Levitate).

Edit/Explanation: I chose Life Orb Icicle Crash as the most extreme form of damage. If Mamo is running anything else, it stands even less of a chance.

The set is a PhysDef Mega Venusaur which can counter Mamoswine. Giga Drain and Synthesis are set and then you can decide between 4 moves for the last two moveslots. Leech Seed + HP Fire is nice to stall a little bit, Sleep Powder can be run to put your opponent asleep or Sludge Bomb to hit Fire-, Dragon-and some other Types for more damage.

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Iron Defense

- Bug Buzz/ Toxic/ Guillotine

252+ Atk Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Vikavolt: 61-73 (33.1 - 39.6%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO

I vote Moose and Goose's Mega Scizor, and more than because it endears to my sense of humor. It has all the strengths of my Weezing and the offensive ability to make it obsolete vs the Mighty Swine.
